** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Sat Apr 22 at 2303, LRA36 poorly audible talk, S4/S5 into Argentine SDR. Inaudible by 2348 recheck. First reported today by: ``Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain, Log in Friol, NW of Spain: ANTARCTICA, 15476usb, LRA 36, checked at 2046, 22-04, on air, comments about Antarctica, identification, email, Whatsapp telephone number, the weather in Base Esperanza. 35433``. I did not check Wednesday April 19 and saw no other reports of it; was it on then? When will the new all-woman crewe take over? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** EUROPE. 6330 CW, April 22 at 2310-2407+, Radio Pirana International publicized it would ``beacon``. Inaudible direct, but good and steady S7 into UTwente SDR; best on LSB to avoid STANAG? noise. Sends RPI several times, and spells out RADIO PIRANA -- with a plain N rather than Ñ or NH. Wonder where this pirate transmit from, and purpose of this; real broadcasts impending? At 1920 UT on the WOR iog: ``[WOR] RPI Beacon on 6330 kHz --- Dear friends; We are now again on air on: 6330 kHz in CW with our Beacon transmitter with about 8 watts into a half wave dipole from northern Europe. We could hear a weak signal on an SDR in Australia just 20 minutes ago (18:45 UTC). The beacon transmitter will be on to at least 08.00 UTC tomorrow (23rd of April). And on again from 18.30 UTC tomorrow Sunday until Monday 08.00 UTC. Sincerely Jorge R. García, radiopirana.com -- Porfavor siempre responder a: rpi@radiopirana.com`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785, VOT not off the air Sat Apr 22, heard until 2255.5* via UTwente (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7230 LSB, April 22 at 0612, W2RTM inviting contacts for International Marconi Day. There seems to be more ham activity than usual in the 7200-7240 area but not higher. QRZ.com: ``W2RTM USA flag USA, WILLIAM S ZUKOWSKI, New Jersey Antique Radio Club, 2201 Marconi Rd, Wall, NJ 07719 USA`` And with weblinx imbedded: ``W2RTM is the Official Amateur Station of the New Jersey Antique Radio Club, located at the site of Marconi's 1914 High Power Receiver Station. This area became the U.S. Army's Radar Laboratory (Camp Evans) in 1941, and is now the campus of the InfoAge Science History Learning Center, in Wall, NJ. W2RTM made its debut by participating in the International Marconi Day on-the-air event, 27 April 2019, making 114 QSO's to 12 countries. [caption:] Hotel at Marconi Wireless Station, Belmar, NJ The New Jersey Antique Radio Club's Radio Technology Museum is one of many participants at the InfoAge Science History Learning Center. The center is open to visitors Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. [EDT = 17-21 UT] We hold monthly meetings the second Friday of each month, at 7:30 PM [2330 UT during DST season]. Saturday, April 22 2023
** AUSTRALIA. 28262 CW, April 21 at 2304, beacon with long dash and VK2RSY -- a Q code follows and a few more symbols, ending in AH. JBA and needed repeated passes to copy this much. Not much else on 10m. It happens that VK2RSY was recommended by VK4RST in his reply to me earlier in April as one of the few other active VK beacons. But no VK4RST audible on 28266 now. Listed thus at WI5V: ``28.2616 VK2RSY C SYDNEY, NSW, AUSTRALIA # 25W, 1/2 VERTICAL`` QRZ.com shows nothing except: ``VK2RSY Australia flag Australia, WIRELESS INSTITUTE OF AUSTRALIA NSW DIV, PO BOX 1066, PARRAMATTA, NSW 2124, Australia`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** COLOMBIA. 10125 CW, April 21 at 0620, HK3QQ making another regular appearance with keyboard letters in order. Listening closely again, I notice that R and M are are skipped; maybe as before but I expected to hear them? ``QWETYUIOX ASDFGHJKLÑ ZXCVBN``. Something else follows after ID, BOGOTA COLOMBIA --- not yet copied but ends in 73 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785, April 21 after 2200 I can barely tell that VOT is not off the air today, direct; better later with more antenna but still too much fading and selective distortion, S9/S7. Recheck at 2259, still on with IS and German ID, 2300 timesignal about 8 sex later than WWV, and into German. Rerecheck at 2310 it`s off. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler, awry at Ankara (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2187 monitoring: confirmed first SWBC, Friday April 21 at 1430-1459 on WRMI 9955, S8 fading to S4 direct, no jamming audible. Needs to be on higher band in daytime. This transmission is the only WRMI one also webcast, and phonecast. Wonder if I have any regular listeners via telephone? ``Listen to our 9955 kHz live stream via the telephone. Call +1-641-741-1762 anytime, 24/7.`` Also confirmed Friday April 21 at 2056 the 2030 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, S9/+15 but noisy and medium SAH from understation presumed Brighton. Stayed on after 2100 with news, presumably FSN, and 2105 ID starting VOA News relay. Thanks for all your efforts to keep DX info non-trivial. Cheers, Dan`` One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 0113 UT April 22 ** U S A. (7490-), April 22 at 0000, WBCQ webcast of `AAAWWW`. For once, Angela doesn`t ask whether her mike is on, and by golly, it`s not. Only occasional comments from her are being picked up in the background from Allan`s mike. Plugs their AM 780 and FM 94.7 stations and their wonderful talk, country and rock programming. Mainly talking about transmitters, including 5130 being down. Says they have six transmitters and unspecified number of backups; (so why are only three on air now, including the SuperStition?). 5130 is a 1955 Collins FRT-22 which runs 8 ancient tubes, not being made any more; there are rebuilders but also a shorage of usable duds which can be rebuilt. Chides Timtron as a ``lazy lout`` who hasn`t gone to Monticello to fix 5130 which he could probably do in a semihour (he lives in central Maine). And a couple more times during the hour. Only he and Allan (still in Florida) know how to work on ancient transmitters. Trying to hire two more engineers who know their stuff. For the SS also lost a $ 245K Thalès tube which failed last month after running only 4 months! Fortunately under warranty but delays in replacing. And it`s the *second* one to fail like that. Made in France, must not be well constructed. 0048 prompts Angela to utter datestamp and contact info - still off-mike. Discussing saving AM car radios, contrary to Ford`s plans. Claims explicitly that Democrats = communists = moonbats, who are against AM radio because it`s mostly conservative talk. 0056 some quick emails (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7505, April 21 at 0616, WRNO is still on with gospel huxter in English, S9+10/20. It used to run overnight, partly in Hindi, Chinese; maybe resuming that? Lately only 0100-0400, the last hour in Hindi per EiBi. Always HFCC registered available all the way from 22 to 16 UT; and nothing else except USAGM Kuwait in Bod dialect of Tibetan at 22-23 only, sparking jamming. Own website is useless, only highlighting three preachers earlier in evening. Even more useless on disgraced FB where the latest entry is a triyear old from April, 2020! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 10105 USB, April 21 at 0625, 2-way in Spanish. In 30m hamband, so are these hams in non-phone band, or intruders? ** COLOMBIA. 10125 CW, April 20 at 0635, once again the strange station sending keyboard letters slowly in sequence: ``QWERTYUIOX ASDFGHJKLÑ ZXCVBNM`` and then much faster: ``VVV DE HK3QQ BOGOTA COLOMBIA`` --- note the error? of X instead of P, like reversed dits and dahs? And the Enye after L; maybe that`s where it lies on a Spanish keyboard. QRZ.com:
``HK3QQ Colombia flag Colombia, Jesús Ernesto Reyes Castro, Bogotà 111156, Colombia Escuela de telegrafia Marconi ilustrado - Colombia Frecuencia: 7.070 CW Beacom VVV De HK3QQ Bogotá Colombia 5W`` Previous logs of this filed under UNIDENTIFIED (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2187) ** CUBA. 6100, April 20 at 0655, RHC English still on here with some rumble, and this time nowhere else on 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 13 or 15 MHz bands. Something`s not wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 221887) ** NORTH AMERICA. 7400, April 20 at 0642, JBA music, then ``Mayak`` interval signal, and unreadable talk mixed with music: from R. Vostochnaya Zvezda: first reported moved from 7320 to 7400 at 0419 UT April 19 by Lucas Bandura, BC: ``[WOR] Radio Channel Eastern Star now on 7400 AM -- He moved yesterday at 0423 UTC April 18. Thanks for all your efforts to keep DX info non-trivial. Cheers, Dan`` One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. What about Radio Angela? 5130, still no WBCQ R Angela signal from 0200 UT April 20. Yet, 6160 & 7490 are both carrying military medley, SSB amid extended Hal Turner show. R Angela must be of lowest priority - so the usual 5130 xmtr is broken: why not let it be on one of the others temporarily? Other nights would deprive dead Brother Hystairical of one frequency among many. And what about all the extra transmitters supposedly at Monticello? Jeff White gave them one from WRMI. 3265 could be turned on at same time as all the others, so why not use it now, preferably on 5130 or higher instead? ``Bad tubes``, hard to find. R Angela & listeners may be in for a long wait unless some alternative is used (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2187) ``Uncle Bill responds: At the moment I anticipate Radio Angela not returning to the airwaves before May. There are actually two components to the problem, parts and labor. The late Tom Barna was the engineer in residence on the spot who might have been able to jury rig something together, and he is missed more than ever right now. Timtron and (at the moment) Allan are both some distance away. The 5130 transmitter does legitimately need new tubes which are both hard to find and expensive, hence our increasingly-frequent appeals for financial support. But even with enough benefactors to buy "new" tubes, the station does also need to hire another engineer as well and has been actively recruiting. 7490 is full enough that throwing us there isn't practical and the other frequencies aren't ideal options just now either for other reasons. It would be nice on general principles if listeners who miss us wrote the station to remind it that we are missed when we are gone. --Uncle Bill [Tilford], Curator, Radio Angela, WBCQ The Planet`` (April 21, WOR iog via Glenn Hauser; not in time for WOR 2187) ** U S A. 9975, UT Fri Oct 21 at 0110, still no signal from KVOH, which had started to run on Thursday nights too (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0201 UT April 21 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
