Hauser
** CUBA. 7355, April 12 at 0655, three distinct styles of jamming
against nothing, probably from at least three different sites, against
no Marti: ``normal`` pulsejamming rate; slow PJ; and a different sound
hard to describe (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5010, April 12 at 0658, S9/+10 leapfrog mixing product of
5040 RHC English over 5025 Rebelde Spanish another 15 kHz beyond. Just
as English is promising a second hour to follow. On 5010 their
modulation levels are about equal, while the reverse leap on 5055 is
but a JBA carrier. Last time I logged these, most of the mix was on
5055 not 5010. What changed? At 0701, 5040 defaults to dead air, but
the carrier remaining means the 5010 leap continues, but only with
5025 audio. Any such 5010 mix allowed could be a big problem for WRMI
during its hours: 2100-0300 at 181 degrees. But I have yet to capture
such a collision. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** MALDIVES [non]. 11620, April 12 at 1520, I`m checking Voice of
Martyrs Korea, still in English for Maldives via secret site at
1500-1530. First into one of the Kuwait SDRs: S9+10 and offset about 1
Hz plus, but with heavy AACI from S9+35, 11600 in American English,
which of course is CGTN Radio/CRI via Kashgar, East Turkistan, std
denunciation. At 1526, Missouri SDR finds 11620 S5/S7 and +3/5 Hz.
1528 at Kuwait, S9+10/20. At 1530 there is only a split-second break
before Vatican in Arabic takes over: extremely well-coordinated
transition. After 1530 into Missouri, VR signal is somewhat weaker
S4/S6 and carrier offset +5/6 Hz; implying that probably two different
sites are involved (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 341 MCW kHz, April 12 at 0705 UT, both EI Enid
and OIN Oberlin KS are JBA ND beacons alternating (Glenn Hauser, Enid,
WOR)

** RUSSIA [non]. 13600, April 12 at 1537, S9+10/20 in Russian, a new
target broadcast, good signal into Kuwait SDR; 1550 drops to dead air
but carrier stays on until 1559*. But who is behind this? Tnx to tips
in British DX Club:

``New high power broadcasts listed on C292 schedule from today
Hi All, The Channel 292 schedule is now showing that the 'Prawda dlja
Rossi' broadcasts will also take place with a 100 kW transmission from
1500 to 1600 utc on 13600.0 kHz on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays
until at least the middle of May. These are only shown on the 9670 kHz
schedule page, and listed as beaming east, but I don't think C292 have
a 100 kW transmitter, so maybe Moosbrunn, but I can't confirm that,
perhaps someone knows for sure?
https://www.channel292.de/schedule-9670-khz/
The first of these higher powered broadcasts is today (12th of April).
(Alan Gale)``

``Thanks for the update, Alan. HFCC data base shows 13600 kHz as
Moosbrunn Austria 1500-1600 UTC from today on days 3,5 and 7:
13600 1500 1600 29,30 MOS 100 55 0 218 357 120422 291022 D Rus AUT C29
ORS 4764. 73, Alan Pennington, Caversham, UK``

Thanks for that, Alan, I should have thought to check there. The
signal is coming in very well here, and a good choice of frequency as
CRI had their Russian service on there before it, so hopefully a ready
made audience in the target area. Alan Gale``

``Address-Info from Radio DARC for radio prawda:
Twitter @Radio22_HF
email: radioprawda@outlook.com
73 paul gager, vienna``

``Full schedule per @Radio22_HF on Twitter today:
0500 UTC 9670 kHz (Mon Wed Fri) (low power)
1500 UTC 13600 kHz (Tues Thurs Sat) (high power)
1900 UTC 6070 and 9670 kHz (Tues Thurs Sat Sun) (low power)
(only 40 minute programmes re DARC post below?)

DARC on Facebook says this about the station:

"Uncensored radio for Russia --- New short wave program for Russia,
Belarus and Ukraine

Under the name "Radio Prawda dlja Rossii" started on the 09th April
2022 a new radio program specially for Russia. The targets of the
broadcast are serious and uncensored reporting as well as unfiltered
news for the Russian population. Due to the increasing state
censorship and administrative restrictions on the Internet as well as
the satellite broadcasts in reporting about Russia, this program will
be broadcasted again on short-term. It is available nationwide
throughout Eastern Europe and Siberia.

This program was founded by engineers and journalists in collaboration
with radio stations, which in part come from Russia and Ukraine. The
journalists already have years of experience in renowned public
broadcasting agencies.
That's about. The 40-minute program in the journal format is produced
voluntarily in the spare time and is funded entirely from private
donations. Although the first test broadcasts were only aired with low
broadcast performance and were little known so far, the editorial
office received a large number of feedback from Russia, Belarus and
Ukraine. The desire was expressed to continue the broadcasts and
please repeat it several times. The radio station considers this as a
clear signal for the need for such uncensored news."
73, Alan Pennington``

Back to gh monitoring: at 1900 UT Tue April 12 via UTwente, 6070 is VG
S9+20 opening in Russian, Ol`ga first with novosti, 1902 over to
Yulya. Not much on 9670, maybe too close skipping over. Keeps going
past 1940, and 1950; ID Radio Pravda dlya Rossii, again just before
ending at 2000; Ch 292 on to some other music. Yes, same hour as R
Svoboda via Armenia on 9370, still putting VG unjammed signal into
Pskov SDR; not to mention `Flashpoint Ukraine` on VOA [non] 15770 WRMI
at 1935. Must be prime time over there (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. April 12 I`ve just received word from his son that John H
Carver, Indiana, died on April 8, in hospital of multiple ailments.
John was best known lately for his monitoring of Allan & Angela
Worldwide on WBCQ. He shall be missed, RIP (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 13565 CW, April 12 at 1456, HIFER beacon K6FRC is JBA;
seldom so and never beyond these morning hours despite bandscans at
manytimes; from Patterson CA, if really only 1.8 milliwatts as
claimed, each catch is of note (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Hauser
** BOTSWANA. UNIDENTIFIED [originally]. 15580, April 10 at 2214
routine bandscan direct encounters something very odd here --- excited
colloquial Portuguese, a silly ballgame, like futebol? But the
announcer keeps mentioning Angola, Luanda, and basquetebol! Quickly
rule out Brasil as this has Luso accent, and RNA is musicking on
11780. Of course, Portugal, Angola and all former colonies quit
international SW many years ago, so some site hired for a special
event?

Google on Angola basquetebol and you quickly find that BKB is a Really
Big Deal in Angola and some other African countries. Can`t find
anything about a championship or any game right now, and it`s a bit
late in the evening over there if this really be live. It`s S5/S7
direct and with some hum. 2225 mentions Africa do Sul, so RSA might be
the opposing team.

By 2232 I`ve switched to remotes: no good at RSA; poor at UTwente but
SAM as -9v Hz offset; Best at Missouri near me, S6/S9. At 2245 Bonaire
only gets S4/S6. Then I run TDOA using TWR Boa Vista, TWR RGV, and
WB8CXO, which is in Munroe Falls, Ohio. ``Most probable`` according to
that: -17.50 South, +24.00 east, pinpointed to Sesheke, Zambia. That
is on the very southern border next to the Namib strip, with northern
edge of Botswana just beyond that.

The only conceivable SW site anywhere near there on 15580 is USAGM
Moepeng Hill, which is in eastern BOTSWANA. It`s normally scheduled
until 2200* in VOA English, so apparently co-opted after that for the
big game. But was this unorthodox usage OKayed in Washington???

I notified the WOR iog a few minutes before 2300 to be alert for
anything identifiable at hourtop. But shortly after that was posted,
programodulation stopped at 2257, for just a big hum. That stopped at
2257.6, but the carrier was still on, registering -10 Hz offset, until
it`s cut off at 2300.6*. Ideas?

Ron Howard finds that VOA is heavily involved in this, at least
online, with a 2.5-hour audio file, but it`s in English:
Cape Town (S. Africa) vs Petro de Luanda (Angola)
https://www.voanews.com/a/6519163.html

I never heard anything hinting this was VOA programming, but of course
it does still have a Portuguese-to-Africa service between 1630 and
1830, much of it via Botswana site but on different frequencies.

Then Hansjörg Biener found this from 11 months ago:

https://www.usagm.gov/2021/05/14/voa-named-radio-broadcast-partner-of-new-basketball-africa-league/

May 14, 2021

``VOA named radio broadcast partner of new Basketball Africa League

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Voice of America is now the radio broadcast partner
of the new 12-team Basketball Africa League, a partnership of the
National Basketball Association and the International Basketball
Federation.

VOA radio will simulcast BAL broadcasts in English and French and
provide play-by-play coverage in Bambara, Kinyarwanda, Wolof, and
Portuguese for the games involving teams from Mali, Rwanda, Senegal,
Angola, and Mozambique, respectively. The 2021 season tips off May 16
from Kigali Arena in Rwanda, the site of all 26 scheduled BAL games.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the league postponed its original 2020
launch date, as well as its plan to play games across the continent.

“We are excited to extend the NBA’s global reach to an even wider
African audience,” says Acting VOA Director Yolanda López. “With the
influx of more African players in the NBA and through the additional
exposure of the African Basketball League, it has truly become a major
international amateur and professional sport. VOA is proud to play an
important role in this partnership.”

VOA broadcasts will air on more than 30 VOA-owned and operated FM
radio stations in 16 African countries and will be available to VOA’s
extensive network of commercial and public radio stations across
Africa. VOA Africa websites in 15 languages will carry game highlights
and links to live radio broadcasts in English and French``

And Mauno Ritola replied on the WOR iog, about this year:
``Coming shortwave transmissions:
Friday 15 April: 2030-2300 6195 & 15580 kHz
Saturday 16 April: 1700-1930 5940 & 15580 kHz``
Looks like those would pre-empt regular VOA broadcasts; in Portuguese?
and/or English? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15230, April 10 at 2213, RHC Brazuguese is just barely
modulated; something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11880, April 10 at 2221, RHC S5-S6 of dead air in French.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6060, April 11 at 0622, RHC at S9 of dead air; only other is
6100, S9+10 of undermodulated English. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, April 11 at 2138, S9 of humbuzz cutting off and on, no
programming. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9440, April 11 at 2132 and later, no sign of R. Cairo in
English, nor anything around ex-9890, 9900, 9910; not any 9440 even
unto UTwente at 2202 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 18140 USB, April 11 at 2130, XE1RK, VG S9, the SSOB, no
doubt sporadic E at almost 2 megameters, contact with KI5KI and
quickly on to KG5LWL in Arkansas. QRZ.com:

21272 USB, April 11 at 2159, quick check of 14m finds only one signal,
Spanish failing to ID; and nothing on 10m (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 15785 AM, April 11 at 2129, JBA carrier at first,
but bet it`s Station YHWH again as I discovered it on same frequency a
few days ago. By 2135 it`s surged to S6/S7 with Josiah railing against
corporate banksters. 2143 `Days of Hard Life` themesong, 2145 clear ID
and says time is about 3:46 pm PST, as if live. Trouble is, PST is not
now observed anywhere so is he in never-never land? If he means PDT,
the minute is about right but the hour would be 2:+. 3:46 at 2146 UT =
UT -6 zone = MDT or CST, duh. So is he really somewhere in a Pacific
zone, or is this clever deception?

Still good copy so I listen for a while, paraphrasing but close: There
is no other besides me x3, sez Yahweh. All religions have failed
horribly, and so have all governments. Why is he buying so much gas to
run his generator, putting fumes into his RV? All preachers are liars,
Christians, Moslems; there will be no rapture. ``Now going dark`` and
pulls plug abruptly at 2149.4* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 15520, April 11 at 2157, REE with hum in Arabic, stronger
than // 11685; while 17855 >> // 11940 is in Spanish. By 2205 they
have combined, all in English with 17855 best via Virginia and later
Maryland SDRs at S9+15/25, Mexican author of book `Privacy is Power`
is speaking; 2222 to some Rachmaminov music. By 2300, 17855 has faded
way down to S4/S5, yet 3 hours of N American service remain. They
should really descend to lower band by 2300, like 9690 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** SRI LANKA [and non]. 15529.875, April 11 at 1523, JBA music and
talk past 1530, offfrequenciness attracting my attention on bandscan,
again AWR Karen via Trincomalee at 1500-1600; like my April 8 log when
I did not get it measured. VP propagation today, yet this trans-polar
makes it while 15745-15750-15755 WINB hybrid DRM noise is much
attenuated and nothing strong on 19m (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [non]. 9830, April 11 at 2201, nothing but S5/S6 of Chinese
even unto UTwente instead of huge VOT English to N America. Nor later
chex during hour. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler and/or awry
at Ankara. CC would be CNR1, Beijing 572 site, at 2025-0100 as well as
earlier blox (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2133 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
April 10 from 2000.8 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, again active on both
918 & 1323 kHz from Villa Estense. 1323 is clear S9+10, but 918 has
some QRMusic underneath causing a slow SAH adding up to S9+10. Inter,
Madrid, is supposedly gone from 918; checking Sevilla SDR I hear
neither. What else is on 918? Superpowers from Cambodia, China, India;
more proximately, 50 kW Iran, 30 kW Nigeria, 0 kW Egypt 50 & 100 watts
in Holland; something in Greece per WRTH 2022. Tuned in earlier at
1951 a music show dedicated to Ukraine.

Not confirmed Sunday April 10 at 2230 on WRMI 5950 as I was distracted
by the 15580 Portuguese basketball; did anyone hear this WOR airing?

Confirmed UT Monday April 11 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9/+10 into
Missouri SDR.

UT Monday April 11 at 0259 tune-in to Area 51 via S9/+10 WBCQ 6160-, I
hear the last few minutes of WOR 2133! Must have started way early
circa 0230, or some kind of miscue. But after quick ID, WOR 2133
starts over at 0302. Still going at 0329 check so presumably played to
completion, as thunder calls for me to get off. Last week I heard dead
air before WOR should have finished. Next:

0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 9455 to WNW
2230 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed]
1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, Australia 5035-USB or 3210-USB [new]
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 9455 to WNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 9395 to NNW

** U S A. 7570, April 11 at 0627, this WRMI is normally a TOMBS
blowtorch aimed NW right at us, but now it is remarkably weak, less
than 7730 even, aimed NE, and also with some noise, hard to tell
whether internal or external. Something`s odd at Okeechobee (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 12050, April 11 at 241, WEWN Spanish S5/S9 with big hum.
Wiggle that patchcord! something`s ironic at Irondale (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED [and non]. 11620, April 11 at 1500, VOM Korea still in
English, sermon about the Word of God, S9/S6 direct. 1521 long pause,
resumed; did not listen to whole broadcast whether there were any
Dhivehi; 1529 ``Thanks for listening to Maldives service of VOM
Korea`` [paraphrased maybe not exact quote].

Instead of going off at 1530, stayed on and switched to Arabic. I
asked, can anyone ID this programming if not yet transmitter site?
1539 into Christian-sounding choral music briefly. At 1551 putting VG
S8/S9+15 signal into Kuwait remote where there was reverb and carrier
offset +12 Hz; but poor into New Delhi. 1555 mentioned ``Filipin``. At
1556, ``Laudetur Iesus Christus`` gave it away as VR, tho cut off at
1557 before any IS. Transmitter break until *1559 back on and then VR
opening in French as sked. HFCC shows exactly same parameters for
both, so why the break? Azimuth 250 which means NW Africa, yet CIRAF
zones as 38E/39W = Egypt and Palestine. Another anomaly. Ron Howard
points out that VR Arabic at 1530 should be // 15595; unchecked in
time.

Altho SMG relays some other broadcasters, even VOA and vice versa,
violating Separation Of Church And State, the FMO sked
http://www.hfcc.org/data/schedbyfmo.php?seas=A22&fmor=VAT
shows nothing but VR transmissions, like the separate Broadcasters
schedule.

At 1530 I did not detect any transmitter break or change in signal
level as if VOMK/M were from same site. Need to monitor very carefully
the 1530 transition going forward. But same SMG site is anything but
certain.

BTW, my previous email to the announced maldives address at VOM Korea
bounced, as limited to known white-listed contacts; not a good way to
hear from new listeners (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

A-22 SCHEDULES

Linx to several varieties are on the WOR homepage
http://www.worldofradio.com

Look for A22; some not yet updated still go to B21, or even A21. The
*final* free major WRTH updater covering A22 is expected in early May

** CUBA. 5040, April 10 at 0153, S9+10/20 of dead air in French from
RHC, where something`s always wrong (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5055, April 10 at 0153, JBA carrier. Certainly not Australia
at this hour. N American pirate has been here recently; but could be
leapfrog mixing product of 5025 Rebelde over 5040 RHC another 15 kHz
beyond. YES, recheck at 0614, now there is enough music audio on S7/S8
to make it // 5025, both of which must be from same site, Bauta.
However, no reverse leap can be detected on open 5010. Something`s
always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6060 & 6165, April 10 at 0612 are by chance the two remaining
RHC English frequencies, while 5040 is still on in Spanish.
6060 at S9+20/30 reads weaker than 6165 at S9+40, but modulation is
slightly louder on 6060. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 341 MCW kHz, April 10 at 0622 UT, ND beacon EI
at Woodring Airport is OFF again, as I can copy only OIN in Oberlin
KS. I listen intently for at least a minute, but no trace of . ..
which was amazingly weak anyway for 25? watts a few km away. EI had
been consistently heard active since last reactivation March 30, after
a long absence since early August.

341 MCW kHz, April 10 at 1815 UT almost local noon, EI is again on,
and audible every octosecond (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SWAZILAND. 11879.971, April 10 at 1456, off-frequency open carrier;
1458 music box IS and ID ``TWR from Eswátini``, twice or thrice, 1500
into African language, music. Note how they pronounce the country,
stress on the A just like in Swáziland, not Eswatíni as I and others
had been guessing. They should know. Somali scheduled 1500-1530, plus
another 15 until 1545 on Sundays. This hour is squeezed between
Romania`s and China`s 11880 usage. I would not be surprised if it`s
long-path (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, April 10 at 0501-0507, YP1 via WRMI, `Ukraine:
Security Issue` another English segment of war news, preparing for
great attack on Donbass, etc., very well done summary, sufficient
direct to NW tho aimed NE (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 293 MCW kHz, April 10 at 1816 UT, FBY, ND beacon at
FairBurY, Nebraska. This is the only one commonly audible from a
second-adjacent state in full daytime. Fairbury is in SE NE some 15 km
from the KS border; 422 km or 262 stmi from Enid. That is, 17 km per
watt or 10.5 miles per watt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2133 monitoring: confirmed UT Sunday April 10
at 0030 on WRMI 7780: S8/S9+5 into Knoxville SDR. Now aimed 222
degrees so how is this log periodic off the back in Europe, which
would be 42 degrees, close to the direct-to-Europe antennas centred on
44? S7-S8 very poor in noise level. Also checked Bonaire to the south:
S5/S8.

Also confirmed UT Sunday April 10 at 0323 just started about 0322 on
WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+10 groundwave into nearby SDR. Next:

** U S A [and non]. 4790, April 9 at 0352 during R. Angela with `Uncle
Bill`s Melting Pot` on WBCQ, I am alert for the ``uteblaap`` QRM,
listening via Maryland remote --- and there it is, 2-second bursts
every 3 minutes near top of these minutes: 0352, 0355, 0358. Also
separate 3-minute cycles from about 0359.7; but WBCQ signs off circa
0400. Now will the blaaps continue? Yes, so they are external to `BCQ
and rather weaker tonight than before. The first cycle still noted at
0401, 0404, 0407; and the second at 0402.7. On the waterfall some of
these small sharp images appear right on 4790, such as the 0404;
others a few kHz above or below. Those may have been within the
audible bandwidth when hearing WBCQ tuned to 4790. But who or what is
doing this, and why? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 4980, April 10 at 0616, WRMI-4 is back, with TOMBS. Missing
ever since first noted March 31; I have never seen nor found any
explanation of why. Also resumed is parasitic JBA spur on 4975. At
S9+30 subjectively 4980 seems stronger than before, antenna change?
Still allegedly 160 degrees, same as 9955 & 5800 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 990, April 10 at 0447 UT, Morse code ID barely copied as
WWKY, direct into my R75 via E/W longwire which happens to be aimed
close to KY already; but lots of QRM, led by CBW to the north side
with Debussy at 0444.

1150, April 10 at 0452 UT, 1 kHz tone with brief breaks; 0454, VVV VVV
VVV DE WMST ID marker, 0457 sweeps upward. For this I`m on the DX-398
in order to null KSAL Salina KS to the north which otherwise dominates
at night here with major lobe thisaway.

So I managed to DX both direct; tnx for the tests. 990 WWKY is in
Winchester KY running 1 kW ND day power; 1150 WMST in Mount Sterling
KY with 2.5 kW ND day power. Earlier, I listened to them both via the
Lexington KY SDR to familiarize myself with what they were sending.
Surprised it was not maxed out until I logged on, already in use by
someones in California, New Zealand, and Ukraine! Glad one can still
do some non-DX listening there. The NZer is Dene Lynneberg, editor of
an NZ DX Times column about SDR DXing specifically, segregated from
direct DX logs. My notes:

Starting at 0415 April 10 on 990: tone here stronger than on 1150.
0416 upward tones, jingle ID, more tones; S9 with some storm noise
from the Atlantic. 0418 singing ID and sweeps upward; 0419 phone off
hook pulses, more upsweeps. 0420 VVV VVV VVV DE WWKY [8 times, good!]
back to VVVs. 0426 phone off hook, YL full WWKY test announcement
explaining it. Are 1150 and 990 separate or //?

1150, at 0421 upsweeps while 990 is in VVVs. I quit web at 0439 and
over to my direct radios, as above. Did not record anything, so
despite all this detail, cannot get QSLs (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9975, April 10 at 0631, KVOH is still on past nominal 0600*
with praise music, not the usual bigsig but S7/S9 with Doppler flutter
as the ionosphere is disturbed. Same signal strength and Dfl even
affects 9955 WRMI. No wonder: K index of 7! WWV reported at 0600:

``Solar-terrestrial indices for 09 April follow.
Solar flux 107 and estimated planetary A-index 19.
The estimated planetary K-index at 0600 UTC on 10 April was 7.
Space weather for the past 24 hours has been strong.
Geomagnetic storms reaching the G3 level occurred.
Space weather for the next 24 hours is predicted to be strong.
Geomagnetic storms reaching the G3 level are expected.``

into the 4 KiwiSDR remotes in Brasil, so misses another Saturday
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA [non]. 15265, April 9 at 1456, VP gospel huxter in English,
not TOMBS or YHWH voice. Aoki shows it`s Bible Voice, via Nauen,
GERMANY, Saturdays only at 1400-1500 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 9420, S9+20 into UTwente, April 9 after 1600, pop song in
English, ``nobody sings...``, 1610 announcement NOT in Greek. Much
more music variety past 1700, which except for occasional non-Greek
talk atop music bed, like 1619, 1629, 1650, could be mistaken for
Voice of Greece format, and not what you would expect from the ChiCom
targeting their genocide victims in East Turkistan, for Aoki and EiBi
agree it`s CNR13 in Uyghur/Uighur:

9420 1600-1805 CHN CNR 13 Uyg Lingshi 725 1-7
9420 1400-1805 CHN China National Radio 13 UI TWN L
TWN in EiBi means target area Taiwan, really? in UIghur? L = Lingshi.

The music is generally soft, low-key, as if for the insomniax in
occupied Xinjiang -- or the enslaved shift-workers. Still going past
1756 and off 1805* as scheduled. Meanwhile no Greece at all on 9420,
active M-F only circa *1230v-1700v* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830.001, April 9 at 2309, still past 2321, S7 open carrier
with a bit of hum into UTwente, presumably VOT still on air but
failing to modulate any bonus German. Something`s always erroneous at
Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** UKRAINE. UR1 = YP1 webcast, April 9 at 1700 continues in Ukrainian,
no English segment as I hypothesized. Richard Langley:

``I believe that "Ukraine: security issue" is only broadcast once per

times on the schedule:

that certain hours of the schedule are repeated in whole or in part
during the 24-hour schedule including the one at 0000 UT. This is the
middle of the night after all. -- Richard Langley`` on the WOR iog

UNIDENTIFIED. 11620, another direct check of unknown site, April 9 at
1458.5 tune-in, open carrier of S9/+10 is already on. 1459.6, ``You
are listening to VOMK [?], both in Dhivehi and English languages...``
, `Blessed Assurance` theme, ``Welcome to the second ... of Doing Good
... to our Enemies``. But only English, no Dhivehi heard yet. Once
again, the only known RBA frequency after 1500, 11825 in Burmese, is
JBA carrier to here, so RBA site really seems unlikely.

At 1509 it`s S7/S9 into Brisbane SDR as I start another TDOA attempt,
using Hanoi, Kuwait, Melbourne. At 1514 it finishes, displaying a
broad area of SE Australia, -39.35 and +143.05: hardly!

At 1510, trying Bandung, Switzerland, Perth: -62.50, -41.00 which is
in the S Atlantic between S Georgia and LRA36! Hardly2!

At 1524 I try KFS remote at Half Moon Bay, California: VG S9/+10. 1526
goes to music and chops off early at 1527.2* before any
announcements.

Dr Hansjoerg Biener replies on the WOR iog to my previous speculation
about this being via Reach Beyond Australia, which:

``Offers two kinds of schedules:
https://www.reachbeyond.org.au/on-air/#broadcast-schedule
with the languages in alphabetical order:

https://www.reachbeyond.org.au/wp-content/uploads/A22-Language-Edition.pdf
with a focus on programme names:

https://www.reachbeyond.org.au/wp-content/uploads/A22-Listener-Edition.pdf
So the listener edition does not refer to "public" as opposed to
"secret".

Voice of Martyrs is an organisation mainly concerned with supporting
persecuted Christians (and as you already noted there is no religious
freedom to practice any other faith than the state religion Islam). I
do not know in which way the Korean Voice of Martyrs might be
connected to the Voice of Martyrs founded by Richard Wurmbrand
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voice_of_the_Martyrs
but Wurmbrand's VoM has always been an international organisation with
different kinds of ministry (including broadcasts in German via Radio
Luxemburg 1440 kHz many years ago). I also remember the many spots on
WHRI advertising their work until the end of WHRI.

In the late 90s, there were Christian broadcasts in Dhivehi to the
Maldives via FEBA Radio. In April 1998 FEBA radio started a weekly
programme produced by Back to the Bible in Sri Lanka. The 30 minutes
featured Christian music and a Christian commentary on a general
theme. There was a negative reaction from the Maldives government and
the broadcast was stopped for a while.

»The programmes were taken off air due to the opposition of the
Maldivian authorities which included the detention of Christian
believers and expulsion of several expatriates from the islands.«
(FEBA Radio News Jan-Mar 1999, p.1.).

It restarted in September 1999 and was also on the air in 2000, but I
never researched in which year it was taken off the air (Dr Hansjoerg
Biener 9 April 2022)`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1430 kHz, April 8 at 2105 UT on caradio in Enid I am
finally checking out KALV, in the occasional spots where the powerline
and stoplight noise abates a bit. Two weak signals but the dominant is
country music, not sports or talk, making a SAH of about 5 Hz. By 2127
I`m on home rig with similar reception, slightly better on N/S
internal shortwire: ``Hometown radio station Stereo 1430, KALV; tell a
friend``. No mention of FM; they had a translator on 99.5.

FCC info in NRC DX News as of April 4 reported:

``KALV OK Alva – Granted STA, U1 60/60 (maybe using D1 60), wildfire
damage.``

Its licensed parameters are U4 500 500 psra 500 per NRC AM Log.

Among all the wildfires around OK, I missed hearing about KALV when it
happened, but searching on wildfire Alva leads right to several
versions of March 21-22, including:
https://www.koco.com/article/oklahoma-wildfire-alva-destroys-radio-station/39495071

Own website does not load properly
https://kalvradio.com/?page_id=72

But coverage maps are also at
https://radio-locator.com/info/KALV-AM

Day pattern is slightly pulled in from the east, presumably to protect
sportstalk KTBZ Tulsa but which is more like ESE, and Enid is more
like SE --- but KALV has never had much of a signal in Enid. Distance
is only 70 km = 43 statute miles.

Night pattern quite different, very pulled in from the NE, presumably
to protect St Louis, the 50/5 kW station whose license was canceled
two years ago and which I think is no longer on the air, most of the
KALV night signal broadly from NW to SW to SE.

So the question is, are KALV still running only 60 watts STA? That
much non-direxional might be better here than the old higher-power
direxional facility. What kind of antenna now? Stations under duress
sometimes even use longwires to transmit. Or maybe the towers survived
unlike the transmitter (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, Sat April 9 at 0500.6-0507.6, UR1 via WRMI

of course with the RuSSian airstrike on the train platform killing
many; VG S9+15 into Maryland remote (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [non]. 15580, April 8 at 2133, S3-S8 of VOA presumably `Music
Time in Africa` scheduled Fridays at 2105 tho the DJockesse has been
unaware of this airing; Via BOTSWANA, 100 kW at 350 degrees. And not
perceptibly off-frequency. The best we can do in A-seasons, lacking GB
11720 in B-seasons this hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2133 monitoring: confirmed just in
time at 0158 UT Sat April 9 the 0130 on WRMI 9395, S5/S6 into UTwente
which I happen to have running after Ukraine check at 0000 on 1386.

Also confirmed UT Sat April 9 at 0400 on R Angela via WBCQ 4790, S9+15
into Maryland SDR.

Once again there are uteblaaps QRMing, and I time them occurring on a
regular schedule other than exactly 4:00 minutes apart as last time.
Now there are two different cycles each exactly 3:00 minutes apart:
one at top of minutes 0415, 0418, 0424, 0427; and another at about :45
seconds past these minutes: 0416, 0419, 0425, 0428. (Assume I missed
the ones at 0421, 0422+.) I leave the same remote running after WBCQ
off at 0430* --- and no more blaaps! I had always assumed this was
some kind of external QRM, but now I am forced to wonder if they were
also coming out of a defective 4790 WBCQ transmitter? OR, if external,
they were not coincidental, accidental, but deliberately to annoy ---
hardly jam --- WBCQ? I have not been paying much attn to the SDR
waterfalls, but I do spot some rectangles a few kHz above and below
4790 line which could represent the blaaps. But there is no time
calibration on vertical scale of the H2Ofalls. Curious. Next:
