Algeria, 13790, at 04:52 Z, R Algerienne MA in Arabic, noisy. I was surprised to pick this up on my PL880 & 10m wire. Normally I log this coming from France.

Sunday, May 14 2023
** ALGERIA [and non]. 21550, circa 1505 May 14, no signal direct from Ifrikya FM, but VG S9+10 at 1557 into UTwente with exotic music - and no signal on the other scheduled frequency 17600. At 1600, 5+1 timesignal ending 10 seconds *early* by soon comparing to DCF77 on 77.5 kHz Mainflingen via same remote, as no RWM or WWVs audible on SW. Pips imply much greater precision! If you can`t do better than that, dispense with TS and just speak the time approximately. Into language other than Arabic mentioning several N African countries (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 11760, Sunday May 14 at 1503, RHC VG opening weekly Esperanto still citing wrong schedule: Sun 08 on 6100, 16 on 11760; and one more in the afternoon I always have trouble copying, but likely wrong too, :30 past some hour on some frequency. Aoki shows 2230 on 15730, which sounds about `right`. EiBi shows that but also: 2030 15140, 2300 5040. 15140 maybe too now at 15 but JBA. Previously at 0707+ I had searched all bands from 5 to 15 MHz and found zero RHC signals, not even 12200/6100. Something`s always wrong at RHC. BTW, searching entire Aoki on language Esp, and EiBi on EO, finds only other lingo station is CRI. WRTH 2023 shows five daily broadcasts on two frequencies each, to a variety of targets via variety of sites. Too bad only Commies are interested: Domaĝe nur komunistoj interesiĝas pri paroli Esperanton (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** INTERNATIONAL INTERNET. Richard Cuff replies about accessing two short shows: ``Looks like Composer's Datebook is archived back to June 10, 2002, based on modifying the number at the end of the URL, as in: https://www.yourclassical.org/composers-datebook/763 The archive does go back all the way to Episode 1. The originals were made beginning in 1987 on audiotape, says the website, and were remade starting in 1999 and given new numbers. (source: website) https://uh.edu/engines/ RC`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORWAY [non]. And I do mean non. Texas R Shortwave publicized a relay of Radio Northern Star, 35 watts on 5895, so rarely DXed outside Europe, UT Sunday May 14 at 00-01 via WRMI 5950, special QSL offered by TRSW itself. I`m listening direct on R75, with considerable storm noise nearby but not so close I have to disconnect 100-ft E/W longwire. SINPO 45333 with some deep fades. I sent a much more detailed report for QSL as required. All the music is US classic rock, in English, and even the wide variety of jingles and IDs are in American accent. The tunes lasted only a minute or two, must be truncated versions. No Norwegian music until the national anthem toward the end. Anyhow, tnx for availablizing, and eQSL received shortly: https://www.w4uvh.net/TRSW_RadioNorthernStar_Relay_QSL_WRMI_Hauser.pdf or #142 via http://www.worldofradio.com/QSL.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. Elexion returns: It might be more interesting than usual to monitor VOT today and tonight. If they can make it onto air, don`t expect any Breaking News rather than olds, but FWIW, English hours: 1830 5960, 2030 9875, 22 11785, 03 6165 7275, 1230 15450, 11630 11660. Major Turkish language fqs which maybe would be `live`, in order starting now for longer stretches: 9460, 5960, 7360, 6040, 9770, 13635, 15375 http://hfcc.org/data/schedbybrc.php?seas=A23&broadc=TRT Guess what: via UTwente, 5960 is not in English at 1830, maybe plugged into domestic service Turkish relay (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 14487 USB, May 14 at 0136, ``NSS`` making crossband contacts with hams on 20m, as part of an Armed Forces Day celebration even tho that`s not until May 20, not May 17. Tnx to ARRL publicity via Harold Frodge, this would be active only until 0200. It`s not really NSS Annapolis reactivated, but some ham has been authorized to use that call. ``CQ Armed Forces Day`` over and over, succeeding a contact maybe 10% of the time. ``November Sierra Sierra, listening 14289``. First contact he mentions is WB3JIA. I don`t try to hear the QSX frequencies which he changes as time goes on, to 14304 at 0141; 14318 at 0156. When he does make a contact, says operating from Glenwood, Maryland, tho ARRL mentioned Greenbury Point in Annapolis. QSLs available via K3LU. Doesn`t say by what method or whether SWLs are eligible. Good S9 here; one brief spurt of running-H2O QRM; says also on 7536.5 which I don`t hear on one quick check. Voice pitch sounds best tuned to 14486.95 USB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2190 monitoring: confirmed Saturday May 13 starting at 2230:30, not 2230:00, on WRMI 15770, JBA direct; and 5850, JJBBA direct; 7730 too weak to tell what`s on it. But at 2235 I try Maryland SDR, where 15770 is S9+20, and also confirmed // on 7730, S6/S7 with storm crashes. 7730 was never removed from the program skedgrid, but was just reactivated this week with a 44-degree antenna as before, same as 15770, but not necessarily // at all 24h. Also confirmed UT Sunday May 14 at 0049 on WRMI 7780, S9/+10 into Louisiana SDR but noisy; outset 0030 was totally buried direct in nearby storm noise. Also confirmed UT Sunday May 14 from 0321 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+10/15 into nearby SDR with storm noise. Next: 2000 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW 0300vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW 0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated; via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7730, May 14 at 0701 check, this reactivated WRMI now programming TOMBS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5085 & 9475 [nons]. Have not heard any signal evenings on 5085 for weeks; and no 9475 at most likely Sunday-morning time at 1504 May 14. Another update on repairing WTWW: ``Subject: WTWW: missing equipment -- All, I went to test a piece of equipment from transmitter #1 and could not find the step up transformer, 120 volt to 220 volts. Transmitter #1 & 2 use items at 220 volts. The transformer was at the station before I came back. The GOOD OLD BOYS struck again by walking off with the transformer. As I need items, I find that they have been taken by the GOOD OLD BOYS. George McClintock, 5-13-2023`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 11835, May 14 at 0700, RV still here on 3 x 3945, S6/S8 after JBA carrier on 7260 before 0700. Not audible on 15780 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1953 May 14 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

** ALGERIA. 13590, May 13 at 0145, S8/9+10 but just barely modulated. 13790, May 13 at 0145, S9/+10 with good modulation. Presumed both Ifrikya FM, the new `station` now carried by the TDA SW transmitters; but are they //? With some difficulty on two receivers direct, yes. At 0200 a 5+1 timesignal, final pip higher pitched, and French talk. At 0205 I simultry 13590 on Maryland remote, 13790 on UTwente, and yes, they do match. Not checked after 0300 when should be 13790 & 9470 - or 7210 & 9500?
Next check at 1850 May 13: 17600 VP S0/S1 in Arabic? No 15160 but could be under high noise level. I have extracted complete schedule from HFCC as of May 12: Béchar site, 300 kW at 131 degrees from the NW near Morocco: 03-06 9470 & 9500 [alternates; 9470 reported] 06-09 15110 09-11 17600 11-18 21550 18-21 17600 21-03 12590 Ouargla site, 300 kW at 210 degrees from north central west of Tunisia: 02-06 7210 [not in use? partial alt to 13790 below] 09-12 17600 12-15 21455 15-18 17600 18-20 15160 20-09 13790 Note that 17600 is registered for both sites at 09-11 and switches from one to the other at 1800. Publicity did state that Ifrikya would occupy 19 hpd. Tony Rogers says Holy Qur`an Radio is still carried at 18-23. And that ``Ouragla`` is assumed not on air at 00-18. I still see Ouargla misspelt, even with a Q! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ANTARCTICA. 15476 USB, Sat May 13 at 2119, LRA36 is VP S3/S4 vs HNL into what is usually the best Argentine SDR, as I camp upon someone. Even worse, JBA when at 2135 I can tune it to 15475.98 RCUSB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KURDISTAN [non]. 17455, May 13 at 1848, Turkish? music jammer, S0/S4 direct but JBA carrier on 17460, presumably Dengê Welat. Same at 1940 recheck (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2190 monitoring: confirmed UT Saturday May 13 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, S9+20/30 direct. As always a bit of intrusive music between the ID and my start; why? Also confirmed UT Saturday May 13 at 0400 on WBCQ Radio Angela, 5130 minus 24 Hz = 5129.976, S7/S9 into NH SDR. Also confirmed Saturday May 13 at 1609 the 1600 on WRN North America webcast. Also confirmed Saturday May 13 at 1947 UT, about 13 minutes into so started about 1934 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, near St Louis MO, S9+15 into nearby SDR, but with very heavy storm noise over central Illinois. Next: 2230 UT Saturday WRMI 5850 to NW 2230 UT Saturday WRMI 15770 to NE [maybe now also reactivated 7730, as on skedgrid forever?] 0030 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to SW 0245vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0315; as late as 0457] 2000 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? 3265.112, May 13 at 0128 check direct, no signal from this WBCQ, which had been turned on just for `AAAWWW` ``quadricast`` at +00-01 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 2146 UT May 13 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Saturday, May 13 2023
** CHINA. 13920, May 12 at 1440, JBA two carriers beating, no doubt CNR1 jamming vs Sound of Hope, as only things in Aoki but at odd `schedule` of 2213-1420. Then I fish around for some more OOB CNR1 jammers, not a thoro bandscan, but find this much stronger S7/S9, 15920. And 13530, both also in Aoki (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CHINA [and non]. 9640 // 7335, May 12 at 2115, RIC VG into UTwente with music, 2120 Spanish drama about a folk tale, narration, birdchirps, other SFX, even Morse code twice at 2147, 2149. 2156 to a song in Chinese with piano. Continued past 2200, 2210 with no ID or any talk. But 7335 now has some CCI from an u nderstation. Nothing heard about closing down SW service; and is not even reopening as a new or repeat hour. Maybe it`s always been a 2-hour service on most frequencies rather than one hour repeated; accounting for no news break at top of second hour. HFCC shows 9640 via Kashgar, occupied EAST TURKISTAN, 7335 via Shijiazhuang, China proper. Un saludo -- Pedro Sedano, Madrid, España, COORDINADOR GENERAL, ASOCIACIÓN ESPAÑOLA DE RADIOESCUCHA (AER)`` and attached a jpg stamped a few hours ago which I translate: ``To all followers of our page: We announce officially that RIC in Spanish has now fulfilled its historic mission and will no longer exist as an institution. But we continue transmitting under the name of Onda China on social networks and podcast services. In this age of confrontation, if you want to find a bridge between the Orient and the Hispanic world, we are here. A thousand thanks for your company during more than a decade. We love you!`` Surely it`s been a lot more than a decade. Just a few days ago I had logged CRI Spanish on 17880 in the 22 UT hour. Then I extract the entire SS schedule from HFCC A23: 06-08 17680 Kashi 21-23 7335 Shijiazhuang & 9640 Kashi 22-23 17880 Beijing 22-24 11855 Urumqi 23-01 9590 Kashi & 9800 Kashi 00-01 5990 Habana 01-03 9590 Kashi & 9710 Kashi Obviously, still going, so the Onda China item jumped the gun - or is it FAKE? Maybe broadcasts will prolong for years of music fill only, like the longtime fate of Portuguese? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CONGO. 6115, May 12 circa 0615, JBA carrier: too early for Japan except maybe in winter, but not quite too late for Congo, Brazzaville sunrise 0557. At 4 degrees south of Equator, varies only about 30 minutes in course of a year. Manuel Méndez, Spain, had reported May 7, as I quoted on WOR 2190: ``CONGO, 6115, Radio Congo, Brazzaville, very irregular, checked the last days early in the morning and in the afternoon and out of the air.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6100, May 12 at 0610, S5/S6 JBA signal, dead air? Must be RHC which ought to be a bigsig. So then I check 6100 x 2 = 12200, where there is S9+10 of dead air. Transmitter must be mistuned to radiate mostly on second harmonic. Something`s always wrong at RHC. No other frequencies found active now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 5800, May 12 at 0614, lite pulse jamming against nothing, since months ago, WRMI briefly put R. Repúblca here three hours earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, May 12 at 1449, no RHC which is supposed to be on here thru midday but algo JBA on 15230 scheduled until 1500 per Aoki. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** INTERNATIONAL INTERNET. Some months ago I publicized an archive access site for `Composers Datebook`, a daily 2-minute feature, but in the meantime it seems to have stopped while another one is now available: https://www.yourclassical.org/composers-datebook This is a lot more convenient than tuning in every day or weekday only at a certain time on a certain station such as KUCO, M-F at 11 & 21 UT - or at least to catch any that have been missed. `Engines of our Ingenuity` is another good one, on KUCO M-F at 20 UT, <4 minutes. Own website is lavishly illustrated with text and link to `latest` edition, such as https://uh.edu/engines/epi3288.htm I`m not clear how far back one may retrieve them. But this linx to next and previous programs. And e.g. I jumped back 88 days by changing the number to 3200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KOREA NORTH. 9435 // 11710, May 12 at 1522, VG sweet songs from this paradise on Earth, VOK, per Aoki this hour in English toward North America, 200 kW at 28 degrees (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KURDISTAN [non]. 17450, May 12 at 1444, JBA music, only thing below 17490 JBA carrier, presumably Dengê Welat via UZBEKISTAN and/or Recep the Jammer from TURKEY. 17460 & 17470, May 12 at 2009, two JBA signals, presumably those two again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 11669.994, Fri May 12 at 2211, token English from SNR in interview about the ballet, `Raymonda`, set in the Crimean War - the 19th century one. It`s a rare full produxion lasting 2 hours and 40 minutes. https://www.ballet.org.uk/blog-detail/need-know-ballet-raymonda/ 2222 contact info and 2223 about artist Joan Miró. 2226 about the Eurovision Song Contest culminating this Saturday. EBU denied Pres. Zelensky`s request to let him speak during it. 11670, VG S9+20/25 into UTwente this African beam, but with constant squeal unless bandwidth narrower than 4.62 kHz; // 15520.000 for ME slightly weaker but clear. 17715.013 for S America also sufficient as well as 17855.000 for N America, but the latter with some distortion (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TAIWAN. 9685, May 12 at 1525, S7/S9 upbeat orchestral music; 1530 pause and more with brief YL in Korean. Aoki shows Nippon no Kaze via Paochung at 1500-1559, preceded by Japanese version Furusato no Kaze at 1430-1500, the latter again at 1600-1630 but via Uzbekistan. Beam from Taiwan toward Korea North carries on well into deep North America (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785, May 12 at 2210 & 2230, NO signal from VOT English into UTwente. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2190 monitoring: confirmed first SWBC Friday May 12 at 1430 after Blalock the Blaster, on WRMI 9955, as usual VP direct only S5/S8 but no jamming audible; stayed on past 1500 with TOMBS. Also confirmed Friday May 12 at 2030 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz only, S9+10/15 into nearby Noale SDR. Hiccuped as if I said ``2190-90``. Now he`s talking about next Monday having to go in for a procedure on his bladder, in Virginia, and hopes it will not degrade his radio voice as happened before, since he has these shows to do plus a preaching engagement. 15770 is also audible much stronger, but not //. 7730, next check at 0619, direct, Jeff is interviewing the `Cruising the Decades` guy from Akron who is visiting Okee. S7/S9. Talks about also being on Channel 292 and WBCQ. This must be `Viva Miami`; not // anything on 7 or 9 MHz, and 15770 is a JBA carrier as usual in the nightmiddle. Cut off at 0629.5 for canned ID and into relay of some station with news about Turkey at 0630.0. VM is not accounted for on any System at 0615! An 0630 relay could be R. Slovakia International, as on System H 15770. But Alan Roe, Teddington UK, reports: ``Glenn, I checked WRMI 7730 kHz (via a KiwiSDR) from 0645 to 0705 on May 12th and noted Deutsche Welle in English via WRN until 0700 followed by TOMBS when I tuned away.`` Now Jeff has replied to my inquiry: ``Glenn: I have just posted the following on our Facebook page: 7730 kHz Back on the Air As many of you are aware, Hurricane Ian last September destroyed the antenna we were using for 7730 kHz beamed to Europe, and that frequency has been off the air most of the time since then. We are happy to say that our engineers have now constructed a provisional antenna with the same 44-degree beam. We have been testing on air for the past few days. However, we have also had some serious problems with the transmitter, unrelated to the hurricane. It is now operating at low power, so we can't reach Europe, but it is covering much of Eastern North America. Most of the programs that were on 7730 kHz were transferred to 15770 kHz after the hurricane. But we will be running 7730 kHz 24 hours per day, and we will be developing the program schedule for this frequency in the coming days, which we will post on our website, www.wrmi.net. Jeff Jeff White, General Manager WRMI Radio Miami International 10400 NW 240th Street Okeechobee, Florida 34972 USA Tel +1-305-559-9764`` BTW, the transmission grid still shows R. Tirana at 0600 System H on 15770, but Jeff tells me WRMI is no longer receiving new RT shows forwarded by Christian Milling at shortwave.de On the programing grid, lots of other stuff shown during that semihour. Maybe some other third party could get Albania into Florida, as R Tirana itself has never shown any interest in such a relay, was not announced on air nor mentioned on website (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5010, May 12 at 0615, WRMI-14 is off. Supposed to run all night until 1500 or Saturdays -1600 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 3265.112, May 12 at 2356 my usual pre-AAAWWW check of WBCQs finds this one on air for first time in months, and just as off-frequency+plus as before, S7/S8 and not as noisy as expected since not much activity around there to Maryland SDR, unlike big storms just south of Enid. Also: 5130 -12 Hz = 5129.988, S7/S8; 6160 -68 Hz = 6159.932, S8/S9; and 7490 -73 Hz = 7489.927, S9/+20. Each with separate programming except 3265+ seems to match 7490- with the FKB gospel huxter. After 0000 May 13, `AAAWWW` starts on all joined. Angela is ``remote`` on lofi phone, i.e. still in Fla, while Allan is in Maine. Strangely, Angela has a lot more to say this week than otherwise when in the same studio. It`s a dialog between them thruout. Focus on AM radio including SW. Allan discourages Angela from going political this time but still manage to get some pro-T****, anti-Biden digs. 0056 a few emails, running a bit over to JIP Hal Turner at 0100 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 10077.5 USB approx., May 12 at 0626, 2-way in Brazuguese; unseems like all-business aero contacts (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0109 UT May 13 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
