Glenn Hauser logs January 23-24, 2023  View Printable Version

Logs
** ALGERIA. 9500, Jan 23 at 0144, Qur`an at S7/S9. EiBi shows Béchar
at 00-06. 15410 log, see CUBA [and non] (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 13680, Sunday January 22 at 2132, no signal from
RHC in Esperanto or any other languages altho had been caught here
weeks ago by Ivo Ivanov. Since then he found it on 15140, and that`s
also where I myself also now confirm it rather than the claimed 2330
on 15730 - altho I have not tried to unconfirm it then and there.
Sunday afternoon is supposed to be the second repeat = third airing,
and I`ve already gone over the errors about the first two. Now it`s
S5/S7, after RHC ID and IS from 2130 or 2131. 15140 supposedly quits
other days at 2130 after French. Makes better sense to extend it for a
weekly broadcast rather than pre-empt some other language as would
have been done at 2330. Something`s always wrong at RHC - not this,
but continuing not to announce the real time and frequency.

15140 is among very few signals on 19m now at 2142 Jan 22: just USAs
on 15555-USB, 15770 and 15825, nothing extracontinental except JBA
carrier on 15410, which would be Ouargla, ALGERIA (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 90.1, sometime during the first hour of APM`s
`Performance Today` in the 21-22 UT hour Jan 22 via KUCO, host Fred
Child, who always conveys a sense of wonder and awe with every
announcement, mispronounces Galánta, as in Dances of Galánta by Zoltán
Kodály. He sees the acute accent on the middle A and figures that
means stress-it. But NO, not in Hungarian!

Sesquidecades ago I took R. Budapest`s language course, and somewhere
still have the literature; did not learn much vocabulary, but sure did
learn the fonetix, which comes in handy if you be a classical music
announcer. The accents on Hungarian words indicate the sound of the
vowel, not the stress. Let me quote something just found on the web:

``If you started to learn Hungarian, you already know that Hungarian
words are stressed in the first syllable. This is true until we
pronounce single words no matter how long they are: ég, kalap,
kerítés, olvasandó, kiszámíthatatlan. together. The words in a
sentence are not sliced up when we talk.``

Galánta is a small city now in Slovakia, formerly in Hungary. That`s
the way the Hungarians spell it. A, with no accent, means it`s
pronounced more like ``aw``. With accent, like ``ah``. Therefore:
GAW-lahn-taw, NOT gah-LAHN-tah! Note that composer Kodály is also
stressed initially, not penultimately as too often heard from
otherwise erudite? announcers, who have not bothered to learn the
fonetik schemes of languages they need to pronounce.

It seems the Slovax dispense with the accent but still have to stress
initial: ``In Slovak language the primary word stress is fixed on the
first syllable. The secondary word stress occurs in words with more
than 4 syllables and is fixed on the penultimate syllable. Czech and
Slovak both have a fixed stress placement on the first syllable of the
word.``

While I`m at it, some more L.L.: In proper Hungarian, surnames come
first, e.g. Bartók Béla; but even they seem not to insist upon it to
the rest of the world and those who do it `backwards` may be taken as
pedantic. BTW, those accents mean proper pronunciation is BORE-toke
BAY-law, not ``BAY-lah BAHR-tahk``. At least in this case, no one
seems inclined to stress -tók. Don`t we owe it as a courtesy to make
some effort to pronounce people`s names correctly, especially in
broadcasts?

In Hungarian the letter S, alone, is pronounced SH; while to pronounce
plain S, it`s spelt SZ. Contrary to Polish, where SZ is pronounced SH.
Further: ``Polish is a language with a fixed stress system with
primary stress on the penultimate syllable as a default (Wierzchowska,
1971; Comrie, 1976; Hayes, 1995), irrespective of the morphological
composition of a word.`` There`s a lot more complicated phonology and
orthography in Polish.

Another oddity at KUCO: `Wind & Rhythm`, ``for those who love band
music``, UT Mon Jan 23 at 0200 on 90.1 is playing Xmasmx! Obviously
intended for broadcast in 2022y as mentions someone who died ``earlier
this year`. Surely at least four more episodes have been produced and
availablized since December. Not so petty peeve: Xmasmx VERY overdone
in December if not November, but ignored the rest of the year. Why not
play some Xmasmx in March, or August for a change?? and something else
part of the time during The Season. WWJD? (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SCOTLAND [non]. 5950, UT Mon Jan 23 at 0300, `Encore` via WRMI,
S9/+15 into Athens GA SDR: the same episode heard 26 hours earlier on
5850, but now the Playlist dated 21/1 has been corrected to match the
music we are hearing. BTW I am also hearing bit of pulse jamming
bleeding over from 5955 against nothing; and meant to mention last
night that there were also traces of Cuban jamming on 5850, where
there is absolutely no excuse for it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.016, Sun Jan 22 at 2346, checking UTwente
whether VOT is not AWOL today? Yes, it`s not, S9+25/35 into UTwente
with somewhat undermod music; 2351 multi-lingual ID reel filler vs
CCCCCCI; 2352 s/off by OM instead of usual YL, not with full English
sked but as if this were the 1330 on 12035; a bit of IS until 2353*
uncovering EAST TURKISTAN. Note exact frequency offsets. VOT often +16
Hz but sometimes +2 Hz, different units? Once off, EAST TURKISTAN
Chinese but seems also with a third carrier displaying as 5960.012,
but that soon goes off leaving Xinjiang PBS as exactly .000 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2174 monitoring: Also confirmed
Sunday January 22 at 2100 on IRRS SW via AM Italia on 1323 kHz only,
S9+3/12 into Parma SDR, as the closest at Noale is too busy. Back on
Friday at 2130, besides Noale, 918 & 1323 were also somewhat audible
at UTwente in Holland.

Also confirmed UT Monday January 23 at 0058 just in time the 0030 on
WRMI 7730, S7/9+5 into Louisiana SDR. So also missed checking whether
the noise blast still covered the first 14 seconds, but bet it did.

Also confirmed from 0401 UT Monday January 23 on WBCQ Area 51, 6160
minus 63 Hz = 6159.937 into Maryland SDR, S6/S8 with inescapable ACI
de 6165 Cuba. Next:

0130 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW [canceled?]
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

says, ``Thanks for your dedication to the SWL community, Glenn! Happy
New Year!`` with a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com -
in US funds but not necessarily.

One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid, OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15770, Sun Jan 22 at 2248, just as there was an anomaly on
WRMI Saturday during this semihour, so today `Wavescan` is on System H
15770 only, with not // music on 5850, and nothing on imaginary 7730.
WS is part of a talk about WEWN by Jerry Plummer at the 2022 NASB
meeting, shortly before he died unexpectedly: always amazed me how a
PhD would still sound like a hick. And still certainly no R. Tirana as
elsewhere on sked. However these three(?) are now shown as `World
Radio Network` at 2230-2300 on Mon-Thu; so what, pray tell, would that
be?

NAm program schedule for B22 shows, confusingly, not meshing with
WRMI:
22:00 One Decision (Sun)
22:00 Deutsche Welle (Mon-Fri)
22:00 Deutsche Welle (Sat)
22:30:00 Banns Radio International: Copenhagen Calling (Sat)
i.e. without explicitly specifying durations, the 2200 programs would
be one hour long except on Sat (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9955, Jan 22 at 2252, no signal from this WRMI, just pulse
jamming against nothing. Skedgrid shows 9955 supposed to resume from
System B Internet only at 2200 with on Sunday a gospel huxter. Not
propagation, as 9395 & 9455 are inbooming (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330, Jan 22 at 2135, WLCR/WBCQ-6 is back on in English but
quite weak S7/S9. Allan has admitted they sometimes power down from
500 to 100 kW, but sounds even less and/or way offbeam to us (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9265VVV, Jan 22 at 2134, WINB is JBM, S9 with terrible rapid
wobble in frequency, much worse than usual. Most obvious with BFO of
course, but also in AM reception. By 2256, modulation level of gospel
huxter is OK but still superwobble. Still so at 0143 recheck Jan 23.
Is that old transmitter about to explode? Something`s wreally wrong at
Red Lion! If same unit, wonder how that would affect DRM (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1521 kHz, Jan 23 at 0147, JBA het against 1520 KOKC: the
only 9/kHz split audible in a full MW bandscan. Once upon a time would
have been easy to assume the 2000 kW from NW Sa`udi Arabia, but sked
long since curtailed to 1500-2230. There`s another hugie, 500 kW of
Russian from CRI Urumqi, East Turkistan, which is scheduled until
0200, and should still be darkness path. So then I check what UTwente
is getting: Spanish! That would be one 5 kW SER. Would think it should
hear some CRI unless maybe unfavorably direxional, but all unlikely to
deep North America. One other possibility: a domestic spoiler 1 kHz
off-frequency; which IIRC was suspected or IDed some years ago (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs January 21-22, 2023  View Printable Version
Sunday, January 22 2023

Logs
** COLOMBIA [non?]. 4940, Jan 22 after 0700, Spanish gospel huxter for
and probably from VENEZUELA is back with JBA signal, after missing
last night. Others were also hearing it earlier this evening (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. All RHC frequencies are OFF by 0709 Jan 22, and so is
Rebelde: 5025, 5040, 6000, 6060, 6100, 6165, 10050, 10080, 11670
vacant. Something`s always wrong at RHC, RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 13668 & 13812 approx, Jan 22 at 1553, huge dirty FMish RHC
music spurblobs at S6/S8, with F# tone. As soon as I hit the lower one
bandscanning upward, I know that the fundamental must be wrong 13740
instead of 13700 whence morning spurblobs usually emanate. 13668 is
approx. peak of the mess but in FM mode it covers 20 kHz, 13660-13680.
However, no second-orders detected at plus/minus 144 kHz from 13740.

They all remain on air past 1606, including 1602 late opening of
weekly Esperanto // 11760 and 15140. Preceding Spanish is running
late: 1600 headlines, 1601 canned IS & ID claiming to continue until
1900 only on 11760 & 15140 & FM; 1602 start Esp`o, including canned
sign-on with all-wrong schedule at 1606: Sundays 0800 on 6100 despite
all 6 MHz frequencies gone much earlier; 1600 on 11760 - only despite
addition of 15140 years ago; 2330 on 15730, but really heard at 2130
on 13680, 15140 or somewhere. Somethings` always multiply wrong at
RHC. Esperanto service remains clueless about its own true schedule,
and keeps misstressing words like Ameriko (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EUROPE. 21460 AM, Jan 22 at 1729, JBA carrier, tnx to many reports
on the WOR iog of Cupid Radio, Dutch pirate being heard in NAm,
starting with Andy Robins in SW Michigan at 1605. Lucas Bandura says
it went off at 1754* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MADAGASCAR. 15355, Jan 22 at 1935, S7/S9 of dead air from AWR in
Ibo/Igbo, again. Is anyone paying attention at least for a refund or
make-good? How about all the Nigerians pining to become 7DAs?
Something`s terribly wrong at Talata (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6925 USB, Jan 21 at 2323, pirate music at S7. A few
minutes later, some IDs as WAVE Radio, per:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,108497.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6880 USB, Jan 21 at 2324, sounds like a 2-way QSO,
at equal levels, talking about the Springfield, Mass. Armory station,
the TIS on 1710 kHz. Federal government stations are not licensed by
FCC, but NTIA. He had to file a FOIA request, and got a CDROM of such
stations. What`s this? These say Mix Radio International but at this
time carrying Andrew Yoder`s Hobby Radio show #3, interviewing Chris
Smolinski:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,108492.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SCOTLAND [non]. 5850, UT Sunday January 22 at 0100, `Encore`
classical music on WRMI is good into Missouri SDR, starting with a
harpsichord Gavotte by Rameau -- which does not match the start of
either Playlist on website dated Jan 14 & 21. So it`s ``wrong``
episode or PLs are wrong. Enjoyable hour, anyway. Brice is looking
into sorting this out. What will we hear and see at next emission, UT
Monday at 0300 on 5950? BTW, // 7730 at 0100 remains imaginary, but
will be all set if and when it`s ever restored (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 21 at 2327, VOT with quite a good signal direct,
S9/+20, but JBM music below big hum! Something`s always erroneous at
Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2174 monitoring: confirmed Saturday
January 21 at 2230 on WRMI 15770, S9/S7 and better than noisy 5850
also reading S7/S9 -- BUT WOR is NOT on 5850, rather unID music show
or fill. This time only started recently. WRMI skedgrid for System H
still claims WOR on both plus imaginary 7730! However,
frequency/transmission sked atop shows Radio Tirana on all three, but
that has not been so for some? time, and those labels do not
necessarily apply to 7 days per week. It seems almost every week there
is some change without notice to WOR via WRMI.

Also confirmed 0030 UT Sunday January 22 on WRMI 7780, S7/S9 into
Maryland SDR, S9/+10 VG into Louisiana.

Also confirmed from 0411 UT Sunday January 22 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO,
VG S9+20 into nearby SDR on groundwave but some lightning crashes
audible, nearest/only storms around New Orleans into Mississippi.
Starting slightly early, despite previous airing 50 minutes late in
afternoon. Next:

2100 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy
0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW
0400vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW
0130 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW [canceled?]
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid, OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15770, Sun Jan 22 at 1933, dead air at S7/S9 from WRMI --
no, there is some JBM I can recognize as Wagner, so probably the
`Music & Medicine` show. Something`s odd at Okeechobee (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330, Jan 22 at 1937, no signal from WLCR/WBCQ-6. Wonder
what`s the matter now; it was on last night, and off-frequency-minus
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU [and non]. 7890, Jan 22 at 0659, JBA carrier presumed R.
Vanuatu, 2 x 3945. Did not tune early enough to tell whether just
changed from 7260, or already here earlier. However, 11835 = 3 x 3945
hits S7/S9 with music past 0701, just about best ever here; 0703.8 ID
and more talk, news? Unfortunately it`s still unreadable. NZ 13755 is
VG S9+10/30. MUF/propagation at this hour remains severely variable
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Sat Jan 21 at 1459 tune-in via
Argentine remote, LRA36 already on with music; Dan Robinson says it
was already running at 1428. Today is widely-publicized special for
1500; and the SDRs are maxed out, so I have to camp, first on someone
in Yokohama tuned to exact frequency, S5/S7 rather than some others
believing that 15476 be correct, making the pitch slightly ``off``.

Songs keep playing, 1505 some yelling, more songs. 1511 finally
attempts canned sign-on, but breaks cutting out. 1512 a few words.
1513, ``hola, hola, hola`` as if attempting to make contact; another
rough opening! 1515 succeeds sign-on with multi-lingual disclaimer
that only in Spanish. 1526 apparent live talk by male voices only, how
odd; one of them calls the other one Marcelo. 1525 something about
year 1904; 1527 music; 1540 Panorama Nacional, RASG ID, ``su cía``.

Weakening now to S5 and even further into the SDR local noise level.
More IDs, contact info including long whatsapp number, FB. 1545 about
the Antarctic Comando. 1552 mentions soberanía, as the Args don`t try
to hide their territorial claim contrary to the Anta. Treaty as an
``international`` continent. Temp as 6 C, winds west? at 65? kph. 1600
song. 1604 about `Panorama Nacional` newscast originating at LRA36 M-F
at 6-7 o`clock - am or pm? on the entire LRA network during January.

I would happily listen this time on the webcast at:
https://vmf.edge-apps.net/embed/live.php?streamname=sc_rad32-100131&autoplay=true
as linked from:
https://www.radionacional.com.ar/welcome/
but it gets this error message via two different browsers: ``The media
could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or
because the format is not supported``. Does anyone get it to play now,
or ever?

At 1610 I try a different Arg. SDR but only S3. 1616 finally a female
voice, from a caller. 1622 song. 1628 again plug Panorama Nacional.
1630 contact info. 1631 acknowledges a listener in São Paulo and that
SDRs in S America are maxed out. 1633 temp now 5.8 C, winds 33 kph
gusting to 55. 1635 YL voice and/or child briefly. 1638 the word
``base`` goes into looping, and then some other looping. 1641 Adrián
Korol, head of RAE is finally heard. Mostly it`s just chat between the
two? hosts, colloquially harder to understand than if they were
projecting radiophonically to the audience rather than each other.

We never hear any of the publicized historical content, like old IDs,
La Rosa de Tokio about it. I`ve had more than enough by now, but let
it run without taking detailed notes. 1651 ID. 1655 song. 1658 dead
air, is it over? No, 1701 bit of music, more DA. 1706 bits of talk and
songs. After that nothing but music past 1712, 1800, 1830. They must
be letting it run till the scheduled replay at 1900.

At 1858 I find one Arg SDR is still maxed out with nothing but LRA36
on its four RX, so I have to camp again, but I can`t spend another 3+
hours trying to monitor this, deep in the buzzy noise level. Back to
The Elixir of Love from The Met...

Oh oh, at 1915 I try the webcast link as above one more time, and now
it is playing, with LRA36 ID, and just starting a special edition of
RAE`s `Actualidad DX`, about early history of station. I don`t think
this be what were on SW 4 hours earlier.

Omar Somma interviews Juan Carlos Saldia? --- about its beginning in
1978/79. First transmitter was 1200 watts. 20 Oct 1979 was ready to go
on air: off-air recording. ``49 metros``, 6030 IIRC. At end offers
eQSL for correct reports to lra36@hotmail.com - then plays the
multilingual disclaimer; and live announcement that LRA36 is about to
close down as their ham station LU1ZV is coming on. (The -Z- indicates
Antda. geographically rather than a numerical call area; WTFK???) This
show ought to be available for retrieval later in case you missed it.
By 2000 the stream is all-music.

The word ``radio`` appears only thrice on the entire page, once as a

TK Wood posted this at swling.com on Jan 19: ``If you speak Spanish,
there is a lengthy interview with two outgoing LRA36 staff members on
REE’s Amigos de la Onda Corta program. Aired 12 January 2023.``

Not so lengthy: it`s about 6-17 minutes into half-hour show but no
timer (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** COLOMBIA [non?]. 4940, Jan 21 at 0702, no signal, not even a JBA
carrier from the gospel huxter which is probably in Venezuela. I have
not bothered to log it in ages, but it`s always been there in
mid-nightly bandscans (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6165, Jan 21 at 0056, RHC already on in Spanish, // 6000, as
QRM to WBCQ 6160. 6165 is supposed to be in English from 0100 while
6000 until 0100 is the alternate Mesa Redonda TV soundtrack.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6060, Jan 21 at 0702, RHC dead air in English, S9/+10 and //
6165, S9. Probably about to be turned off as no other RHCs are still
on, 5, 6, 10 or 11 MHz bands. 5025 Rebelde, however, is still on, and
guess what, modulating! I check for harmonix: JBA carrier on 12120,
maybe 2 x 6060, but nothing on 12330 = 2 x 6165. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Jan 21 at 0716, JBA carrier from R. Kiribati.
Sorry if these almost-nightly logs seem boring, but in absence of any
other TPs audible, 10? kW over a clear 4500-mile path is significant.
Distance approx. on my NGS globe with geometer. Distancefromto.net has
a terrible time with this one, trying to link Enid with S Africa,
Australia, or at best, Kiribati West (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 90.1, Sat Jan 21 at 1730 UT, KUCO-FM amid `The Score`,
topic music from James Bond movies. This is NOT the episode which
aired Thu at 2000, supposed to repeat Sat at 1700. I can`t find a JB
episode searching show archive https://www.thescore.org/playlists/
which has #764 as of Jan 14. Maybe it`s the Jan 21 ep already (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2174 monitoring: confirmed UT
Saturday January 21 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, VG S9+10/20 direct.

Also confirmed UT Saturday January 21 at 0500 on WBCQ Radio Angela,
5130 minus 16 Hz = 5129.984, S7/S9 into Maryland SDR.

Also confirmed Saturday January 21 at 1722 the 1700 on WRN North
America webcast.

Also confirmed Saturday January 21 starting way late at 2120 the 2030
on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, Wentzville MO, VG S9+20 by groundwave into nearby
Warrenton SDR; following an admittedly overlong `QSO Today` including
Hebrew/Yiddish lesson. Next:

2230 UT Saturday WRMI 15770 to NE
0030 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to SW

** U S A. 6160 minus 66 Hz into Maryland remote = 6159.934, UT Sat Jan
21 at 0057, music playing on this WBCQ, 0100 JIP `AAAWWW` as theme
`WTO` is ending! So must have started playback 2 minutes early,
probably because they know it`s 62 minutes long and to avoid running
over into Hal Turner at 0200. Yes, it`s obviously a repeat of last
week`s show when Allan mistakenly referred to his top frequency as
7415 instead of 7490. So, dispensable, after I check and measure the
other frequencies. 5130 is only -2 Hz now, = 5129.998; 7490 at -69 Hz
= 7489.931 with FKB gospel huxter before 0100. 3265+ is NOT on, tho
Allan claims it is, which it was, as of last week`s show. It seems
replays are never edited to be less confusing (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU [and non]. 7260, Jan 21 at 0705, JBA carrier, so is RV back
here even after 0700? 7890, Jan 21 at 0706 also has a JBA carrier,
i.e., 7260 must be something else, Mongolia? However, no signal on
11835 harmonic (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs January 20, 2023  View Printable Version
Saturday, January 21 2023

Logs
** CUBA. 5025, Jan 20 at 0703, S9+10/30 of dead air from R. Rebelde;
and again no RHC signals still on this late. Something`s always wrong
at RadioCuba. This vs my typical local HNL of S9 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Jan 20 at 0710, JBA carrier from R. Kiribati
and none other 9/kHz splits (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. Thanks to Enid`s only local TV signal, K17JN-D
on RF and virtual 17 being on the air this week, I am able to view
another episode of 3ABN-TV`s `AWR 360: Broadcast to Baptism`,
0430-0500 UT Friday January 20. It`s so saccharine that I can`t bear
to listen to it, but keep an eye on the video. This time there is no
disclaimer at the start admitting that it`s all dramatization rather
than documentary. Four similar stories of non-Caucasian people
happening to pick up an AWR broadcast and winding up almost drowned by
a 7DA official. (I`d take the Methodist method any day.) Madagascar,
Namibia, Mexico and Tanzania, NO info on station names, frequencies or
exact locations somewhere in the center of each country, with stylized
towers radiating animated signals: doubtful any would have been SW,
likely local FM if they really exist. Subjects were holding
unrecognizable boxes up to their ears with rod ``antennas``. Then of
course pitches to fund such ``conversions`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Fri Jan 20 at 2306-2330, VG S9+15/20 into Maryland
SDR, token English feature from REE is about Chinese/American painter
Martin Wong, *1946-1999*, exhibit in Spain until Jan 29, Justin Coe
interviewing curators. Easy to find images of his work online, making
this much more interesting, including this in particular:
https://www.comunidad.madrid/en/noticias/2022/11/08/comunidad-madrid-presenta-primera-exposicion-monografica-europa-artista-martin-wong
not to be confused with another Martin Wong, photographer of seminude
young women. // 11940 = 12030 both S6/S9, but no signal at all on
11670 or 11685 as Africa continues out of luck (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** TURKEY [non]. 5960, Jan 20 at 2303, NO signal from VOT English for
N America nor XJPBS into UTwente. Still no VOT at 2330, but XJPBS in
Chinese has come on in the meantime. Std denunciation. Something`s
always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 335 MCW kHz, Jan 20 at 0714, BV, 25-watt ND beacon
at BatesVille, Arkansas; mixing with slightly stronger dash and YLD,
1000 watts at Chapleau, Ontario. Could no longer be confused with 336,
another BV in Québec, decommissioned; nor with our very own BV in
BartlesVille OK, since it`s allegedly on 201 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2174 monitoring: confirmed first
SWBC, UT Friday January 20 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, S7 into Maryland SDR
with the noise blast for 14 seconds at the start; much better S9/+10
into Louisiana SDR.

Also confirmed Friday January 20 at 1530 on WRMI 9955, S8 with deep
fades to S3 direct but no jamming audible. Due to cutoffs early or no
signal previous weeks, I monitor the entire program which is intact
this week, and still on past 1600-1612+ with TOMBS; preceded by
Blalock the Blaster at 1500.

Also confirmed Friday January 20 at 2130 on IRRS SW via AM Italia,
Villa Estense, for first time in a longtime active on 918 kHz at
S9+27, slightly stronger signal than usual 1323 at S9+15, both VG with
only JBA traces of QRM. Nothing still on LW 207, into nearby Noale
SDR. Tuned in at 2127 to some unknown Anglo/American discussion about
economix, which inevitably is faded out incomplete at 2130 for ID as
``You are listening to medium wave`` and QSL address before WOR start.
Once running I hear a few hiccups but can`t tell where in the process
they interrupt; certainly beyond my esophagus. Next:

** U S A. 5890, Fri Jan 20 at 0705, S9+30 of unknown gospel huxter not
// TOMBS on 5850 WRMI. WWCR continues to claim on Jan 1 program sked
that #4 transmitter 5890 is NOT on the air M-F 0600-1300; with TOMBS
overnight only on Sat & Sun. This also repossiblizes the leapfrog
mixing product over 5935 on 5980 vs totally pointless Cuban jamming,
as Martí currently scheduled on 5980 at 11-14 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU [and non]. 11835 >> 7890, Jan 20 at 0658, again today R.
Vanuatu already on 3945 harmonix, JBA carriers, not 7260. And good
signal from 13755 NZ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
