** CUBA. 12200, May 25 at 0621, RHC English, S9/+10 undermodulated with squeal, stronger than fundamental 6100, S5/S7. No other frequencies on now. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2192)
** GUAM. 15680, May 25 at 1540, KSDA only frequency audible into Japan SDR, S9+30/40. Seems they have only one transmitter going; AWR ID, Pune address and phone number in scheduled Kannada; 1559 S/off in English, never mentions call letters KSDA, power as 100,000 watts. WRTH 2023 shows KSDA has 5 x 100 kW. Scheduled next at 1600 on 12080 but not on air. Also at 1536 May 25, no scheduled frequencies from KTWR to be heard. WRTH says they have 1 x 100 and 2 x 250 kW. Jose Jacob, India heard from KTWR that they were closing down before the typhoon, everyone OK afterwards but as of May 25 not yet safe to work on antennas (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2192) ** OKLAHOMA. Lawmakers Override Gov. Stitt's Veto, Extend OETA Contract Thursday, May 25th 2023, 4:05 pm By: Haley Weger {with audiovideo} https://www.news9.com/story/646fcee6aac85008de01f309/lawmakers-override-gov-stitts-veto-extend-oeta-contract Lawmakers are using the final days of the legislative session to override Gov. Kevin Stitt’s vetoes. One of the vetoes: to extend the contract for OETA to continue operating until 2026. The override ensures that the continuation of the only public TV station in Oklahoma, which was a big goal of the state legislature this year. Both the Oklahoma House and Senate decided to override the governor’s veto for the OETA bill on Thursday. A bipartisan effort in both chambers. The governor vetoed the House bill that would continue funding OETA earlier this month. Stitt called OETA an outdated system saying, “I don’t think Oklahomans want to use their tax dollars to indoctrinate kids." The governor’s office sent News 9 a list of shows that Stitt deemed “inappropriate content,” including an episode of “Clifford the Big Red Dog” that featured the topic of gay marriage. ============== https://www.oklahoman.com/story/news/politics/state/2023/05/25/oeta-funding-oklahoma-legislature-house-overrides-governor-kevin-stitt-veto/70256730007/ Lawmakers override Stitt's vetoes, including OETA legislation Dale Denwalt Oklahoman The Oklahoma Legislature fired back at Gov. Kevin Stitt's veto authority on Thursday, ensuring the continued survival of OETA and criticizing the governor's "tantrum" earlier this session that led to 20 bills being vetoed. Cheers broke out in the Oklahoma House of Representatives as lawmakers approved the bill that reauthorizes OETA as a state entity for at least another three years. The Senate added its override vote a few hours later. In his veto of House Bill 2820 last month, Stitt said he questioned the public broadcaster's value to the state. He later claimed OETA "overly sexualizes" children and indoctrinates them. Asked for proof, he pointed to news programs that discussed transgender issues and scripted programming that acknowledges the existence of LGBTQ people. Thirteen bills were pressed into law Thursday as lawmakers spent hours undoing the governor's decisions. Some had pointed words for the governor. State Sen. Julie Daniels, R-Bartlesville, said Stitt "ignored the authority of the Legislature" when he vetoed a bill to reauthorize the board that oversees licensed architects and interior designers. Stitt also showed "no logical reason or rational thinking" when vetoing a bill that corrected an error in previously adopted legislation, said state Sen. Todd Gollihare, R-Kellyville. During the months-long legislative fight over how to give families a tax credit for sending their child to private school, the governor vetoed 20 unrelated Senate bills as retribution for not yet adopting his tax cut and education plans. "We're not even dealing with a policy bill, yet here we are today taking up the time of the Senate to address a veto message that appears to me to be nothing more than a tantrum," said state Sen. Chuck Hall, R-Perry. Senate Floor Leader Greg McCortney referred to the bills as the "tantrum 20." "During a recent tantrum, the chief executive of the state indicated that he did not think it was important for hospice patients who reside in nursing homes to have quick access to pain medication," said McCortney, R-Ada, referring to the veto of Senate Bill 249. Between the House and Senate, lawmakers considered veto overrides on nearly three dozen bills Thursday, but only 13 were overridden by both chambers. In total, 32 out of the 46 bills vetoed this year remain in jeopardy, including legislation on victim protective orders, McCortney's bill on hospice medicine and modifications to assistance programs for state employees and disabled Oklahomans. House lawmakers sustained the governor's veto on legislation that could have made it more costly to defend against SLAPP lawsuits, or strategic lawsuits against public participation. Vetoes on the following bills were overridden by both chambers on Thursday. Lawmakers will meet again Friday, leaving time for additional overrides if leadership bring them to the floor. HK3QQ keyboard letters also on 10125 CW but only light clix audible, no obstacle when tuning USB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GUAM [and non]. Shortly after my previous report about imminent typhoon strike affecting SW stations KSDA and KTWR, these further posts to WOR iog, May 23/24: ``Nothing at 20:10 from KSDA Guam on 9890. Not surprising. 73, Walt Salmaniw, BC`` ``Well, my next check at 2340, 17700 was on with Chinese into S Korea SDR as sked this hour. Of course, AWR might switch to some other transmitter site if KSDA disabled. Now both KSDA and KTWR are scheduled to be off the air until 1000 UT. Glenn`` From Jose Jacob, India, to the WOR iog; at 0250 UT May 24: ``[WOR] KTWR will be silent today also. Message from KTWR. The station will be silent tonight also. Typhoon Mawar should make maximum impact to Guam today. At 1150 UTC KSDA heard on 15210 kHz but not scheduled 11855, 15500 ? 1230 UTC: 15430 missing, 15710 heard. 1300 UTC: 12055 15505 missing. 15550 tx coming and going. KSDA 1330 UTC: all 15255 15430 15550 missing today. Thanking you, Yours sincerely, Jose Jacob, VU2JOS, National Institute of Amateur Radio, Hyderabad, India, www.niar.org`` I`m not trying S Korea SDR until 1548 when it`s getting nothing from KSDA on 15615, 15670 or 15680 as sked. Nor anything from KTWR on 9900, nor after 1600 on 12080. Now that the storm has passed, to discover whether they can resume normal ops, or damaged and/or powerless. Details in this story with a 2+ minute audiovideo: https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/24/weather/typhoon-mawar-guam-storm-wednesday/index.html It seems the eye passed just north of Guam, so it could have been worse for the SW stations and everyone. Are the SW sites in the southern half of Guam? Seemingly for KSDA which FCC puts at 13-20 N, while Guam in general is at 13-26 N according to a web search showing extreme decimal detail without specifying exactly what part of Guam that be. The Northern Mariana Islands were also in the typhoon area so USAGM transmitters on SAIPAN and TINIAN need to be checked out. Their extensive skeds mixed in with all the other USAGM sites: http://hfcc.org/data/schedbybrc.php?seas=A23&broadc=AGM My first check of those is at 2030 May 24, when only two are scheduled, in Chinese, 9535 & 6080. Into S Korea SDR both are dominated by Firedragon music, CC talk is definitely under 9535 at S9+60, and I think also 6080 at S7, which are Saipan and Tinian, respectively. So those two sites remain operational - unless other sites have been substituted immediately. At 2320 into S Korea SDR, checking all the NMI frequencies sked until 2330 or 2400: 15555 Saipan Chinese on with CNR1 jamming; 11700 Tinian Tibetan only; 13715 Saipan Khmer only; 12140 Tinian Khmer not heard (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. This is confusing since OKC already has full-power KOCB on RF33, virtual 34. Found this recent press about it: https://cordcuttersnews.com/oklahoma-city-is-getting-a-new-free-over-the-air-tv-station/ ``Oklahoma City is Getting a New Free Over The Air TV Station - By Luke Bouma on April 27, 2023 in All News Today Digital Networks, LLC announced that it is launching KWRW-LD channel 33 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Since a super-typhoon is heading toward Guam and expected to hit Wednesday afternoon, circa 04 UT. As soon as we got this story via Mike Terry, A monster typhoon is barreling toward a US territory with deadly winds and 25-foot storm surge By Derek Van Dam, CNN Meteorologist Published 10:47 AM EDT, Tue May 23, 2023 Super Typhoon Mawar is barreling toward Guam on Tuesday, threatening to slam into the US territory as the strongest storm there in more than 60 years. The typhoon, which has strengthened rapidly in recent days, is posing a “triple threat” of devastation including deadly winds equivalent to a category 5 hurricane, exceptional storm surge and torrential rainfall, according to the National Weather Service office in Guam... https://edition.cnn.com/2023/05/23/weather/typhoon-mawar-guam-forecast-track-tuesday/index.html I started replying: I was going to suggest monitoring KTWR & KSDA whether they be blown off -- both totally worthless for any LOCAL news about Guam. WRTH Update https://wrth.info/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/WRTH23_INT_Summer-8.pdf has nothing under Guam. Instead they are mixed in with other TWR and AWR sites under Singapore and USA respectively. If anyone can find or compile KTWR-only or KSDA-only transmission skeds, please do so. Glenn Perhaps most convenient will be EiBi by time: http://www.eibispace.de/dx/bc-a23.txt For KTWR, search on KTWR, to find it is OFF the air between 1630 and 1000. For KSDA, search on GUM-a, which is OFF the air at 1830-2000 and 0000-1000. Not considering day of week variations. So first up will be KSDA at 20-21 in Korean on 9890 Glenn, 1833 UT There is one public radio station, KPRG http://www.kprgfm.com/main/index.php and its stream is working http://peridot.streamguys.com:5090/live I have not investigated for commercial stations There are many more utility transmitters which you can find on EiBi by searching merely GUM There are no KiwiSDRs to be found on Guam by searching or on the world map. Glenn I do not see any explicitly local news on the schedule which is UT+10, but I suppose there may be some such inserts during NPR programs such as ATC. Here & Now is currently running at 6-8 am. Glenn http://www.kprgfm.com/main/index.php?key=schedule KPRG did not occupy the optional cutaway in NPR news at 1904 UT, but stayed with NPR news until 1906. Also, I see that KPRG does not carry NPR Morning Edition which would start around local midnight, but rather BBCWS. Glenn Arthur Pozner replies: Radio-locator.com has 21 local stations listed for Guam. Most of them appear to have live links. And Jose Jacob, India: Hello Glenn, KSDA A23 Schedule is in my site: https://qsl.net/vu2jos/A23/KSDA.pdf KTWR A23 Schedule is in my site: https://qsl.net/v/vu2jos//A23/KTWR.pdf Gary Pence says at 2059: Glenn, The radar shows they`re getting into it. I can only hope it moves quickly; the slower it moves or stalls awhile, more damage and destruction occurs. Gary So we`re all set to follow what happen to Guam and its stations. SAIPAN & TINIAN with USAGM SW stations are not far away to the North, and might also be affected. What hath god wrought? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** LIBERIA. 6050, May 23 at 0632, JBA something, presumed ELWA which Bryan Clark, NZ, says has just been resuscitated. For longtime in nightly bandscans during this hour, I have encountered nothing on 6050; and sharer HCJB is off by 0500 latest. Monrovia sunrise is now 0627 UT and varies only a few minutes during the year at +6 degrees North (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MEXICO. 6185, May 23 at 0633, S9/+10 of dead air from XEPPM as happens too frequently late at night, when I guess no one is minding the transmitter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785, May 23 at 2203 & 2227 direct, NO signal from VOT English to NAm; nor via UTwente at 2253 check. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 293 MCW kHz, May 23 at 1529, ND beacon FBY is JBA. This is my farthest anyday on groundwave, not even from an adjacent state KS like 332, 395 and 407 kHz, but second-adjacent Nebraska, 25 watts from FairBurY, at 422 km = 262 stmi, or 10.48 miles per watt, or 0.0954 watt per mile; admittedly shortly beyond the KS border (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7178 LSB, May 23 at 0623, QSO between WE6CW and W6EUG in non-English except for an occasional word: sounds like Tagalog. Yes! on QRZ.com WE6CW explains he`s originally from Philippines: WE6CW USA flag USA, GENER D "Gene" BARBON, 4189 THE HILL ROAD, BONITA, CA 91902 USA No such disclosure from his contact, but surely too: W6EUG flag USA, EUGENE P REQUILMAN, 206 THIERS ST, DALY CITY, CA 94014 USA. WORLD OF RADIO 2191 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday May 23 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9+10/25 into Maryland SDR, calibration of which his still way off. WRMIs are always within a few Hz of nominal. Next: 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated; thanks this week to Doug Brown, London, Ont., for a generous US$ check to Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, USA, ``Thanks, Glen[n] for all you do for this great hobby of ours`` Or via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7730, May 23 at 0630, still no signal from WRMI-2, and still nothing about the problem on disgraced FB. 15770, May 23 at 1818, no signal from WRMI-9 either. Was reported gone already to the WOR iog at 1200 per Arthur Pozner near NYC; and at 1300 Tue by Kari Kallio, Finland, when `Encore` should have aired to Europe (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 13670, May 23 at 1532, S3/S8 of open carrier. Lots of stuff sked but not during this hour; most likely CNR1 jammer still on when it and Sound of Hope are supposed to break between 15 and 21 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 2310 UT May 23 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

WORLD OF RADIO HITLIST UPDATE May 21
Hi Glenn, My latest Hitlist update. https://www.w4uvh.net/hitlist.htm 1) Algeria - Ifrikya FM: Added entry for this new station to list (with web home page, facebook page and YouTube Livestream link) 2) Germany - SM Radio Dessau: Added entry to list (Thanks in part to Rafael Martinez for the tip) The next update is scheduled for late June Best wishes and 73, Alan Roe ** CANADA. 6754 USB, May 22 at 0648, NO signal from CHR, Trenton Military VOLMET night frequency, just like 15034 day frequency also AWOL lately. At least we still have Gander on 3485, 6604, 10051, 13270, all USB confirmed May 23 into Maryland SDR announcing correct! time 0020z. Broadcasts start at :20 and :50 past each hour, for how long? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11760, May 22 at 0643, S9+20 of almost dead air except for trace of sup/torted modulation, English? And squeal, and noise field surrounding plus/minus 25 kHz. Something`s very wrong at RHC. No other frequencies found on any band (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT. Reply via the WOR iog to my May 20 log on 9440: ``Hi Glenn, Actually, Radio Cairo English service made one of its rare appearances on May 21, starting at 2115. The broadcast was clear and the modulation level was good. There was a news round-up followed by "Feature" which discussed the anniversary of the establishment of the Egyptian Geographic Society on May 19, 1875. This was followed by another short programme, but the announcer had a very strong local accent and spoke so quickly, that I could not grasp what she was saying. There was News headlines at 2130 followed by "History of Egypt" discussing Deir-al-Medina - "the Place of Truth", an ancient Egyptian workmen's village. Sadly, the broadcast cut off abruptly at 2138 and did not return, so I gave up listening at about 2145. Of the other languages, German on 9410 at 1900 is co-channel to BBC Dhabayya and Albanian has CRI co-channel on 9490 at 1500, but the Albanian release has been off air for many weeks now. The transmitter with the loud hum is now replaced by another unit from 5th - 11th May and from 17th May onwards. This third transmitter has a buzzing sound, but it is lower level and I find it quite tolerable, provided that they set the modulation level sufficiently high. I had e-mailed them requesting that this alternative transmitter be used from now on. There is still the problem of many transmissions being off air or cut off before time. I am beginning to wonder if there might be problems with the electrical grid in Egypt, causing unexpected power outages. Maybe our Egyptian contributor Tarek Zeidan can clarify the situation? [later:] Albanian service returned to the air May 22 at 1500 on 9490. Still with CRI co-channel but interference only slight. Radio Cairo modulation level and audio quality was good. Will this situation continue or will things deteriorate again in the coming days? Alan Holder, G4ZBH, Isle of Wight, U.K.`` Tnx, Alan. Despite all the other problems, when on, 9440 would consistently read out as minus 5 Hz on 9439.995 into UTwente. It would be helpful to find what that be now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 17855, Monday May 22 at 2208, SNR token English VG direct, other frequencies not checked. Interviews with people involved in Madrid International Dance Festival - sorely lacking any visual element. O well (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785, May 22 at 2229 check, VOT English is not off the air today, but poorly received direct with splash from 11780 Brasil; not to mention the heavy accents (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2191 monitoring: confirmed Sunday May 21 at 2000 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz only - no show on 918 or 207 for months: still possible? S9+10/15 into nearby Noale SDR, with lite CCI presumably Smooth Radio, Brighton, England, UQKOGBANI. BUT: suddenly stops at 2025, soon replaced by fill music. I am confident there is nothing wrong with my file to cause that. Also confirmed, UT Monday May 22 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S5/S7 into an Athens, GA SDR, as always blasted by external noise transmitter for first 14 seconds and some brief bits later. Better into boastful Louisiana SDR at S7/S9, closer to southwesterly azimuth from Okee. Also confirmed, UT Monday May 22 at 0259 from WBCQ Area 51, 6160 minus 68 Hz = 6159.932, S9+10/25 into NH SDR despite degraded propagation conditions. Unlike last week when this airing was pre-empted without notice or explanation later. Next: 0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated; thanks this week to Doug Brown, London, Ont., for a generous US$ check to Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, USA, ``Thanks, Glen[n] for all you do for this great hobby of ours`` Or via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7730, May 22 at 0651, NO signal from WRMI-2 recently reactivated as 24/7; and 7780 WRMI-13 but a JBA carrier during degraded propagation. Could QRP 7730 still have been radiating? Another check at 2308: no signal on 7730 nor 7780, while 7570 is only S7/S9 and noisy. Yet lower frequencies are detectable: 5800, 5850, 5950. The nines are good: 9395 S9+20 with that guy visiting from Akron interviewed on `Viva Miami` as per System G sked; 9455 with moanin` & groanin` hour on TOMBS // 15770; 9955 weaker in Portuguese mentioning Rádio Nacional de Brasília amid jamming. Of these, only 7780 is scheduled not to be on air, until *0000. 9955 does not match as the pro-Taiwan `Freedom Synergy Radio` is supposedly 23-24 UT M-F on System G. 0008 check May 23: 7780 on now into Louisiana SDR, not 7730 there nor into Maryland. Nothing on WRMI FB about this situation, but I see only by consulting disgraced FB would we have known what`s now history 3 days ago: ``WRMI is broadcasting live from the Dayton Hamvention in Dayton, Ohio today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) from 1500-2200 UTC on 9395 kHz`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0025 UT May 23 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
