Hauser
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RCUSB, Sat Jan 15 at 1507, NO signals from
LRA36 into two Brazilian SDRs. Did not check Wed Jan 12 when it would
have been slightly more likely (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 15034-USB, Jan 15 at 1642 UT, Trenton Military with VOLMET,
giving time as 1540 zulu --- 62 minutes slow! Let`s hope the flight
weather info were slightly more accurate. Times of individual reports
are correct, post-1600. Quite a few ``no report received``s; I wager
there is never a complete cycle full of reports received!

6754-USB, Jan 16 at 0022 UT, I give the night announcer a chance to
make it right: No, claims station time is 2320z; after a bunch of
terminal forecasts with No Report Received, including even Trenton
itself! Something`s always cockeyed at CHR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EAST TURKISTAN. 5060 & 4850, Jan 16 at 0026, JBA signals on 50% of
The Urumqi Four, also 4500 but with noise, QRM or defect? The fourth
one on 4980 continues blocked by WRMI. As always this combo clinches
it for PBS Xinjiang`s four language services from the land of
imperialist ChiCom persecution and genocide of Uyghurs and other
Moslems. Don`t buy anything made by their slave labor! It`s still
pre-sunrise there not until 0140 UT, and post-sunset here, graylinish.
BTW the Han masters impose Beijing time even upon the westernmost part
of an empire which ought to have five timezones, so that by the Commie
clock, Urumqi sunrise is not until ``9:40`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ITALY [and non]. Re: World of Radio anomalies --- I had asked
Alfredo Cotroneo of IRRS/NEXUS/IBA about these and he replied Jan 14:

Hi Glenn, Happy new year, and sorry for this late reply. Thanks again
for reporting on our frequencies. We are aware of some of these
issues, please read my replies inline below:

Glenn Hauser wrote on 07/01/2022 23:14:
> WOR seems to be airing OK on 7290, Fridays at 20:15 CET. I assume
the one skipped will be in two weeks, the third Friday, Jan 21. Altho
they don`t turn on the modulation until almost 20:01 missing Aida and
sign-on, joining FSN in progress. This happens consistently every
week. The carrier is on by 19:59, so why don`t you have them add the
program feed?

``Currently on 7290 kHz from 20-21 CET there is a slight conflict in
the local modulation line (audio) being used by another program, and
we have to accept this compromise for the current season. The sign in
and initial program are being slightly delayed to try to minimize this
issue. Being the program in parallel on 918 kHz since 19 CET, it's
another reason for not using a sign-on that would sound odd in the
middle of the broadcast on MW (TX modulation feeds are the same for SW
& AM).``

> I also check 918 kHz via a remote receiver. Once 7290 was also on
they were almost synch with FSN, ID and UN News, but after that they
split with music fill on 918 which ran past 20:15 when WOR started. I
was trying to have lunch at the same time so did not monitor them
minute by minute, but for some time WOR was not on 918. When I
rechecked at 20:34 it was back on both.

``It's an old issue, that the Medium Wave station has occasional
issues with picking up our feed. It's something totally random and we
tried to fix it several times. It's due to circumstances (hardware,
software, telecom (internet lines, weather, power, internet failures,
etc. at the MW station) not under our direct control. If we had some
€5k to spare, we could fix it, but while we try to survive on a very
low budget, we have to live with that - at least for the time being.
Sometimes our feed drops to a locally generated backup audio feed,
and then it resumes later.``

> Another consistent problem I ask you to fix: 918 chops off the air
Fridays at about 22:57, some two minutes before the next WOR playback
is over, since it`s 29 minutes long starting at 22:30. Could you have
them leave the transmitter on for another 2 or 3 minutes?

``It should be supposed to stop at around 23:05 CET, after the news. I
will double check, maybe it's just the TX timer out-of sync.``

> Today before 22:57 I could also barely recognize my voice on 207
kHz, a very weak signal. First time I`ve been on longwave for sure,
and hope this will continue.

``There are still works-in-progress at the LW station. A new 200 meter
long wire antenna has been built, power is still very low, even if
hopes are to increase the power to 10 kW later this year. At this time
we are not sure whether we will broadcast regularly in parallel also
on this frequency, because the cost will almost double for us, but
generated income to pay for the airtime will not likely grow enough to
cover our expenses. It all depends on the interest among
our broadcasters and listeners' response, of course. It's just an
experiment so far, and coverage is still very DX-like, with reception
reported even in Lapland but weak, not broadcast quality yet in our
main target areas in Central Europe.``

> There were reports last year about plans to change 918 to 1323 kHz.
What is the expectation now?

``We are still waiting for final authorization from Rome. It may be
coming any time now in Q1/2022. Then we are ready to make the
switch.``

> At the nearby remote there is considerable interference from Madrid
on 918, but AM Italia is on top

``Sounds good :-) Bests, Alfredo

** MADAGASCAR. 13670, Jan 15 at 1800, African Pathways Radio on
Madagascar World Voice with This Day in History, neat to be hearing
this tropical well on the caradio as I am driving thru a lite
snowstorm. Later in hour, however, `Creation Moment` anti-science
nonsense (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PERU. 4775.036, Jan 16 at 0029, music at S9, typical offset of R.
Tarma (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 15 at 2349, VOT English VG via UTwente, just in
time for sign-off. Instead of claiming it be the 1330 on 12035,
recites correct times and frequencies from 1930 to 0400, and PS at
1730. But then says broadcasts at 22-23 and 03-04 are pre-recorded;
NO, those would be their summer advanced timings. Announcer, please
engage brain rather than just reading obviously wrong info. Cuts off
at 2349* with just a few notes of the incomplete IS. But I think it`s
forward rather than backward. Something`s always awry at Ankara,
erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Saturday January 15 at 0230 on WRMI 9395, S9+25 into KB0FX SDR - which

** U S A. 3215, Jan 16 at 0038, WWRB still off the air since death of
David Frantz, when it had been active weekends only; also likely to be
gone after 0200 when it jumped to new 3360 to escape WWCR. FCC-watcher
Benn Kobb has just replied to my previous note about a CP:

``Glenn, That FCC construction permit for WWRB should not be a
mystery. Frantz had allowed the license to expire. He eventually
sought reinstatement. The FCC had him repeat the formal steps of
obtaining a license, including a construction permit. That information
came to me from FCC when I inquired about it at the time.

Meanwhile, there have been some more developments with the High
Frequency Trading stations. I am working on a report about that.
Benn`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, Jan 1 at 0025, WTWW-2 sounds like Bob Heil, but about
hamstuff, not thorganism -- NO more spurs detected near 5072 or 5098
despite fundamental hitting S9+30/40, tweaked away?? BTW, 5830 WTWW-1
is not on now, even tho the post-PPPP owners may think it`s primary.
at 0058.5 organ music starts, but 0100 interrupted by quote from
Isaiah, CQ, canned WTWW ID treating the Star Spangled Banner as a clip
of produxion music -- doesn`t sound patriotic to me! Then Bob Heil
starts `TOUTA` for real with yet more recordings of and tributes to
his idol, George Wright? and/or Len Marshall, or was it Ben Larson?
0029 Bob closes program until next week, but immediately starts
another episode! this time something from Ian in Scotland.
I`m listening to $ tereo webcast and must catch `Encore` tomorrow
night. Whatever`s on TRSW is lost due to such a simulglut of musix on
Saturday nights, not to mention The Giant Jukebox on The Mighty farty
KBC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1380, Jan 15 at 0601-0641 UT, monitoring the MW DX test from
KQKD, 1380, Redfield SD. My report to CPC for eQSL:

Thanks for the test! First time I`ve heard KQKD, which is about 580
miles north of me in Enid OK.

I heard the VVV DE KQKD IDs immediately at 0601 UT January 15. I then
recorded 0605-0636 UT and later went thru the file to pick out two
areas with VVV VVV VVV DE KQKD KQKD KQKD - several times. Most of the
rest of the time if anything could be heard, it was sweep tones
upward, or solid tones. The recorder timing may not be too accurate,
but should be correct within 1 or 2 minutes.

Solid tones: 0611, 0612, 0616, 0627
Sweeps upward: 0613, 0625, 0629, 0631, 0635
Siren - varying tone: 0615

The first clip of Vs and IDs at about 0611; second clip about 0623.
One must listen closely but I am sure I copied ``KQKD`` several
times.

https://www.w4uvh.net/KQKDDX1.mp3
https://www.w4uvh.net/KQKDDX2.mp3

This was on my Icom R75, which runs off an east-west 100-foot
longwire, not well positioned for north/south reception. On MW I turn
off the preamps to avoid overload. Dominant station among lots of QRM
was Mexican music, probably KMUS Sperry/Tulsa OK, some 110 miles east
of here, 250 watts at night.

I also heard this on my DX-398 receiver with internal antenna only,
sweeps at 0607 UT. This allowed local 1390 KCRC Enid to be somewhat
nulled. In both cases tuned on LSB to minimize KCRC.

FYI, I did not employ any remote SDR at any time for this test.

Some background info about KQKD would also be of interest, such as
what the call letters may signify, either by original choice or
subsequent slogan formation. Looking forward to an eQSL. Thanks, and
73, (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ZANZIBAR [and non]. 6015, Jan 15 at 0410, poor talk in uncertain
language, but presumed ZBC in Swahili, as China and Korean radio war
not likely to propagate at this hour. Romania 6020 not a problem at
only S9/+10 with flutter, English to N America, and // 7410 is still
down (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 2749-USB, Jan 14 at 0448 UT, robotic French YL marine
weather with outlook for samedi, S6 vs S4 noise level, i.e. VCN
Escoumins with 600 watts.

2598-USB, Jan 14 at 0449 UT, sounds like same, now about dimanche.
Without two receivers at hand, cannot make them // for sure but seems
to be the case per dxinfocentre.com schedules, the latter VBQ-22 as
Natashquan (Escoumins) 600 watts, both starting at *0437.

But where are these, what provinces? Escoumins is on north shore of
St. Lawrence River, in Québec. So is Natashquan, due north of the east
end of Anticosti Island. Les Escoumins is much further upstream,
across the `river` west of Rimouski. The St. Lawrence is already too
wide to be considered a mere river (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 28197 CW, Jan 14 at 2121, ham beacon: DE VE7MTY/B after
three long dashes and probably gridsquares following. Still no
sporadic E to FMBC band but at least 28+ MHz. WJ5O list shows:
``28.197 VE7MTY C PITT MEADOWS, BC # 25W, VERTICAL`` --- A 17K suburb
east of Vancouver. See also USA for more (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5040 & 6100 & 9700, Jan 14 at 0713-0715, the only three RHC
frequencies still on the air are all dead, open carriers,
respectively: S9+20/30; S9+10/20 also with a low roar; S9+30.
Something`s always wrong at RHC X 3, Think how many undernourished
Cubans could have been fed hearty meals for the cost of all this
wasted juice - also wasted when modulating propaganda (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. No sporadic E DX up into the FM band, but 10m beacons hop:
with listings from WJ5O; I defer to those exact frequencies; my
approx. are within 0.1 kHz:

28222 CW, Jan 14 at 2123, ham beacon VVV DE W1DLO/B is JBA but finally
copied after multiple passes, alternating fast and slow:
``28.2218 W1DLO ? CALAIS, MAINE # 10W, VERTICAL New 29 September 2011
QRT July 2018 reprt Jan 2021`` -- not QRT now; only non-West Coaster

28277.8 CW, Jan 14 at 2128, VV DE W7UUU/B, with long pauses:
``28.2778 W7UUU C UNIVERSITY PLACE, WA # 3W, VERTICAL new 12 March
2013``

28221.8 CW, Jan 14 at 2123, dash and VVV DE W1DLO/B, alternating fast
and show.
``28.2218 W1DLO ? CALAIS, MAINE # 10W, VERTICAL New 29 September 2011
QRT July 2018 reprt Jan 2021``

28230.7 CW, Jan 14 at 2300, 2309, E E E ... CQ CQ CQ DE NG7I/B:
``28.2308 NG7I C RITZVILLE, WASHINGTON # 2W, VERTICAL, New 6 December
2021`` --- mixing with on almost same frequency:

28230.8 CW, Jan 14 at 2309, 2325, VVV VVV VVV QRA W7PFR/B, long pauses
good for NG7I, and call only sent once at a time:
``28.2308 W7PFR MINERAL, WASHINGTON 1.5W, VERTICAL New 8 February 13
presumed QRT before Dec 21`` --- not QRT: only one sesquiwatt!

28300 CW, Jan 14 at 2318, K6FRC/B, like the one on 13565, but three
varieties are listed here, none an exact match with one /B:
``28.300 K6FRC/B3 TRACY, CALIFORNIA 10W, VERTICAL QRT prior to 2016``
``28.300 K6FRC C TRACY, CALIFORNIA # 100W, "POGO stick" VERTICAL Freq
change 8 July 09``
``28.300 K6FRC/B2 TRACY, CALIFORNIA 10W, VERTICAL Backup transmitter
for K6FRC/B``

28296 CW, Jan 14 at 2323, E E E E ... VVV DE KA7BGR
``28.296 KA7BGR C CENTRAL POINT, OREGON # 10W, DIPOLE``

28214.3 CW, Jan 14 at 2346, W6REK/B:
``28.2143 W6REK C SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA # 25W, VERTICAL``

28217.9 CW, Jan 14 at 2348, dash and VVV DE N6SPP/B:
``28.2179 N6SPP C SALINAS, CALIFORNIA # 4W, VERTICAL New 7 February
2018``

Many of them also send something more, probably grid squares which I
have not copied. See CANADA for one more. Also lots of domestic USB
phone QSOs in the 28.4-28.5 MHz range (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2121 monitoring: confirmed first
broadcasts, UT Friday January 14 at 0130 on WRMIs: 5850, VG direct;
7780, S8/S9+15 into UTwente SDR. OK except cuts off my closing again.

Also confirmed UT Fri Jan 14 at 0330 on WRMI 5985, JBA direct, but at
0352 check, S7/S9+10 into Knoxville SDR; some 5980 jamming ACI audible
at fades, unless in AM Narrow, or Synch USB mode, which shows +25-28
Hz carrier offset, more than usual for a WRMI. So I compare it to WWV
on 5 MHz, which shows +21-22 Hz high! Which WWV certainly is not. Rx
calibration is off, so WRMI would really be only +4-6 Hz. Need to do
this habitually when possible, citing SDR offsets.

Also confirmed UT Fri Jan 14 at 1530 on WRMI 9955, S9+10/20 direct, no
jamming audible. Cut off at 1529 was a strange-sounding drama.

Also confirmed Friday January 14 from 1916 on IRRS via Bulgaria, 7290,
after ~minute of dead air, cut on WOR play at end of opening. As
usual, previous IRRS programming also cut on late just before 1901
with Feature Story News already in progress; 1908 song fill and more
music; 1915 dump to dead air for a minute. Today it`s S9+30 into
UTwente, not so much problem from much weaker ChiCom ACI de 7295.

As for 918 kHz, AM Italia via Noale SDR: tuned at 1901 // FSN, and
probably was not joined late, S9+10; nothing audible on 207 kHz, and
something else on 1323. Also went to music fill at 1908, and dead air
at 1915, but unlike 7290, stayed dead with no WOR! Finally 1918,
roboYL ID in English as ``AM Italy``, and ``Have a good listening``.
And more music past 1926 when I quit monitoring both as I`m due to
visit Box 1684.

WOR 2121 confirmed Fri Jan 14 at 2140 tune-in to 918 kHz, S9+11 via
Noale with only lite CCI; and this time WOR is underway, presumably
from 2130 start, and NOT chopped off air at end but complete to 2159,
then a bit of ``Honkey Tonk Blues``, IRRS ID over Inter/Madrid
timesignal, and 2200 Feature Story News. Alfredo Cotroneo says this
has been supposed to stay on until 2205, and now it finally is on
longer than WOR. Next:

** U S A [and non]. 9330, Fri Jan 14 at 0718, WBCQ sounds
undermodulated at S9+30; but upon closer inspexion, it`s somewhat
blotted by an even stronger open carrier from Cuban spy numbers which
is scheduled this hour on alternate weekdays. I can`t think of a pair
more deserving to collide with each other than the Flat Earthers and
the Cuban Commies (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. (7490.1), UT Sat Jan 15 at 0100, WBCQ webcast of `AAAWWW`:
it`s all A&A conversing, yelling over each other. Laments it`s cold
even at Studio in Deland of Fla, 51 F. Laments USA has never gone
metric. Standardization is essential. Disses electric cars, bronx
cheer. 0120 implies that Biden is cognitively incompetent, and Harris
is ``the greatest whore`` (or was that, horror? enunciate!) 0123
musing on whether our reality could be a computer simulation? 0139
about the Webb telescope, and Allan mixing up his underwear; 0149
finally datestamp as 14th of January, YOOL 2022; invites email. 0151
article about AM radio degraded due to high-frequency suppression, 10
kHz max, even worse on SW, 5 kHz limit due to channel spacing. Blame
NRSC for not keeping AM higher quality. 0158 two quick emails; never
any phone calls. Ignores Free Radio Weekly even tho new issue out
promptly by Larry Will. 0200 prayer. 0201 JIP Hal Turner late as he
plugs being on KYAH 540 in Utah. (KYAH approached me last April, but
with 13 watts at night?) John Carver`s version:

``Tonight's show started on time on 6160 and 7490. Both signals could
be copied but 7490 had the best signal so listening to that this
evening. Allan and Angela in the studio. Opening banter between Allan
and Angela about how she's dressed for radio. Talk of the weather in
Maine and in Fla. Then complains about the US never adopting the
metric system and then a small mini rant about what a pain in the ass
it's created. Then onto electric cars. Allan wants manufacturers to
standardize batteries, connectors, measurements, tools etc. Then onto
politics talking about the Supreme Court and vaccine mandates. Allan
then asks us to prove to him that we're not living in a computer
simulation then expands on this for a bit. Signal on 7490 starts to
degrade around 0133 so switch to 6160. Then talk of the new space
telescope and a report that says it has unfolded completely with no
problems.

Then Allan relays a strange story about finding his underwear was on
backwards after a trip to the bathroom and he swears it was not
backwards before that. He calls it a Matrix moment. A glitch in the
program. At 0152 he reads an article from Radio World about quality of
audio in AM radios. A quick reading of some emails at 0158 and he's
cutoff at 0200 just as he announces the closing prayer. John,

** U S A. 5830, Jan 14 at 1522, WTWW-1 night frequency active at this
unusual hour with SFA, S9+20. So is WTWW-2 on too? Yes, 5085 with rock
S9+30 in broad daylight over a megameter path. B-21 FCC shows 5085
available 24 hours beamed due south; but 5830 only 00-14, at 50
degrees. Between 14 and 02, supposed to be on 9475, if at all.
Evidently Ted thinx FCC rules are so flexible. It seems that in
practice, #2 can be on without #1 too, but not vice versa. Except
maybe when #1 be really on 9475 like Sunday mornings.

FCC also OKs these but hardly ever used:
9930, 14-24 at 180 degrees
9940, 00-24 at 40 degrees
15810, 00-24 at 40 degrees
The top two would be the #3 transmitter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
