** EGYPT. 9439.995, Dec 29 at 2136, no signal direct in English from
R. Cairo sesquihour; something`s always amiss at Abis (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. First as UNIDENTIFIED: 11514.9, Dec 29 at 1530, JBA
music at S3/S4 direct. Still no other reports of this since my last
log Dec 25, so I check several remotes for it: nothing at UTwente,
Bandung, Qatar, nor Oita, Japan. In California the omni KFS gets it at
S6/S7, while inaudible on their NW antenna but agrees on offset
display of a trace; it`s JBA but I keep listening there to 11515 -96
Hz = 11514.904. Seems to be nothing but music, mainly soprano voice,
past 1700. By 1716, it`s a smidgen stronger, S7. Guess at Turkish
jammer vs Dengê Gel, but not that kind of music. Still same offset
into KFS at 1910, S7 now YL popsong in English. What is this???

Further chex, *still* audible on this off-frequency, at least into
KFS: 1957 hi-pitched YL voice speaking, English? mentions numbers?
goes past 2000 with no break. Next check 2147, still music S7/8. And
at 2306 really inaudible but KFS still synchs on 11515 -96 Hz.

Meanwhile I got replies on the WOR iog from Lucas Bandura: ``Hikari
FM, Arizona pirate. Moved from 11289.4 kHz`` and from Dan Robinson:
``Yes, operator of the former Pushka and Russian named station, now
Hikari FM was awaiting some equipment parts to make the move to this
frequency area``.

When first reported on 11289.4, I checked but never heard. I belatedly
check HFU for reports about this: on Dec 24 there were reports on
11520. A QSL of Dec 19 for 11289 said 10 watts and soon would be on
11520. Ex-6200 AM, where I was still alert for anything at night, but
nothing lately.

He once claimed to be just across the border from Arizona in NW
Sonora. That might discourage the FCC from seeking him, true or not

** PUERTO RICO. 391 MCW kHz, Dec 29 at 0441 UT, ND beacon DDP, with
longish pauses between repeats. That`s more like it, real DX, from San
Juan - Dorado. I still have plenty local noise on LW, but this gets
thru it. Last time logged was Dec 30, 2021, almost exactly one biyear
ago. DXinfocentre lists as 1 kW, RNA as 2 kW, a period of 10.14
seconds with 6-second pauses. It seems there are hardly any other
beacons still existing in the Caribbean, e.g. Cayman Islands 415 kHz.

External service has shrunk to only 12 people covering all the
languages; English will continue by Amy Egan and Marilyn Quintana. We

UNIDENTIFIED. 11550, Dec 29 at 1612, VOA Korean with heavy musical QRM
into UTwente, checking this after no 11514.9 unID. VOA on 11550 is
Saipan, at 15-19; // clear weaker 11510 which is Tinian at 15-17.
There may well be a third station on 11550, i.e. the Kurdo/Turco radio

10-degree beam adjustment, including slews, from 295 to 305 degrees,

[USAGM PHILIPPINES] at 2316 [Dec 27]. I monitored it from sign on at
2258 with a tone and then time pips at 2300 straight into info about
what was on during the next hour, that being the show Hardtalk
(Stylised as HARDTalk). Yes, it was a year in review. News read by
Moira Alderson followed. At roughly 2308 Stephen Sackur then began the
show with a story about Gaza and the war. I recorded the full hour for
later playback. Much of the content is sourced from the domestic BBC
News channel and then recompiled for the radio version. Reception was
a solid SINPO 44444 and easily as good as what I used to get from
Kranji [Singapore] on 12095 at 1500 through to 1900 UT. Tony Pavick,
