Glenn Hauser logs July 27, 2023  View Printable Version
Friday, July 28 2023

Logs
** AUSTRALIA [and non]. 10125 USB, July 27 at 0653, Oz accented hams
again in QSO or net but JBA and still can`t copy any individual calls;
on same frequency CW is HK3QQ, Bogotá, slowly sending letters in
keyboard sequence with errors (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** COLOMBIA. 5909.952, July 27 at 0641, tropical music at S8/S9,
better signal than usual from always off-frequency Alcaraván Radio.
Brief burst of ``running water`` ute QRM.

Manuel Méndez in Spain reports: ``Alcaravan Radio 5910 on air again
after about 10 days out. Log in Oleiros, La Coruña, NW of Spain,
Sangean ATS-909X, cable antenna, 8 meters. COLOMBIA, 5910, Alcaraván
Radio, Puerto Lleras, 0450-0526, 27-07, religious and Latin American
songs, Spanish, religious comments, Colombian songs “Llaneras”.
25432.``

However, I don`t think it had been totally off. In regular bandscans I
had been crossing a JBA offset carrier, but not logged. Now there is
also a JBA carrier on 6010, probably Brasil rather than still inactive
sibling station LV de tu Conciencia.

Ron Howard also replied: ``Greetings, Manuel, from California. July
27, at 0742 & 0910 UT, heard a decent level carrier on 5910 kHz, but
no audio at all; normally in the past I always had good audio here.``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2201)

** CUBA. 6100, July 27 at 0646, undermodulated Spanish wIth
humbuzzwhine, no doubt RHC where something`s always wrong.

5025, July 27 at 0650, S9+20/30 of dead air except for some humbuzz,
from R. Rebelde, something`s always wrong at Radio Cuba. David
Crawford, FL replied to my previous reports, July 27 at 0156 UT:
``Tonight's treat is what sounds like video buzz, rather than the
recently-typical Rebelde FM audio, on 5025. And after the one reported
active "sunset" session, HM01 has been quiet again since, at least for
the local midday and sunset schedules. I have not checked the
madrugada scheduled times and freqs.``

Ron Howard, CA replies later on July 27: Cuba (5025) noted at 0743 &
0909 UT, with strong carrier, along with a strong hum, but no audio.
Ron`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2201)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6869.1, July 27 at 0628, JBA presumed Late Night
Lunatix, pirate, as Lucas Bandura, who got it identified, also noted
it at 0453: ``On right now with music. Weak direct in British
Columbia, S7 on the Northern Utah KiwiSDR.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 7620, July 27 at 0633 UT, JBA sportstalk, surprisingly
here. Sounds like one of my strongest locals, 1390 KCRC, indeed
matches and synchronized. Same program is on 1640 KZLS, but out of
synch. How does this get on 7620? It fades a bit and is gone a few
minutes later. Suspect external mixing with some strong real SW
signal, but plus or minus 1390 leads to nothing likely on 6230 or
9210. Not an obvious harmonic: only even fundamental on MW would be
1270 X 6. Could be some station there on same net, but not in OK
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO )

** OKLAHOMA. RF17, July 26 in daytime, K17JN-D is definitely back on
air at usual local translator strength with satellator panoply of 3ABN
subchannels; Enid`s only local TV signal, embarrassingly for a city of
50K. For a while we had locally programmed LPTV, KXOK 32, ``TV-OK``,
gone as of 8 years ago. See my log report of July 21, 2015. At least I
still have their mug as a souvenir (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, 17715, 15520, 11670, Wed July 26 at 2200, token
English from SNR not checked at all as I was concentrating on ROMANIA
in the absence of TURKEY. But I didn`t miss anything worthwhile.
English is repeated at 0200 on webcast only July 27 - a retrospective
about Spanish footballers! No news, no apology; I wonder how the
elexion went? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2201)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2200 monitoring: ``9395 kHz, 0030,

Glenn Hauser logs July 25-26, 2023  View Printable Version
Thursday, July 27 2023

Logs
** ARGENTINA [non]. See USA WRMI 9455

** CHINA [non]. 9790, July 26 at 0430, CRI Cantonese S9+40/45 but JBM
with squeal. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, July 26 at 0040, RHC dead air in English? S7/S9 direct.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5990, July 26 at 0040, Spanish on CRI relay undermodulated
S9+10/20. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, July 26 at 0424, JBA carrier, presumed RHC per
previous track record, daytime frequency at night, as nothing else is
scheduled. 15230 also still on, JBA, nominally to 0500 tho China also
sked. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also
CHINA [non]

** CUBA. 11850, July 26 at 0425, RHC Spanish JBM, always with
parasitic JBA spur carriers on 11840, and QRMing jamming against
nothing on 11860. 11850 is *never* heard with decent modulation, yet
the incompetents keep running it thus. Aoki & EiBi both say 21-05 via
Quivicán but miss the spurs. Something`s always wrong at RHC.

26 de julio! Time for my annual tribute to The Revolution with a
modified motto: ``Patria o suerte, ¡pensaremos!``, or ``Patria o
suerte, ¡huiremos!`` Once again I invite photographic evidence of
either being scrawled upon any public surface in Cuba, preferably
identified (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 93.9, July 26 at 1938 UT, KIMY Watonga has finally
resumed modulation after ~2 days of dead air (Glenn Hauser, Enid,
WOR)

** ROMANIA. 11800, July 26 at 2203, RRI English, VG modulation and
signal S9+45 into UTwente. News about security situation along Black
Sea due to Russia`s war. 2206 sports about a swimmer. 2207 about
severe weather in July, heat alerts up to 42C in shade, hi winds to 90
kph, rain measured in litres per square meter. I wonder what would be
the conversion factor to our ``inches``. 2211 end of newscast, Sports
Club, on 89th birthday of Leon Rachman?, Olympic champion in 1956,
went from wrestling to wrowing. 2214, `Hit of the Day`, a nice song
``Inseparable``. 2217 ID and `Society Today`, 62% have never stepped
in a Museum and only 33% go in once or twice a year. Experts are
worried about figures but not panicked. Musea should actively attract
visitors rather than passively wait for them to show up. 2224 music
break, song called ``Time``. 2227 `Visit Romania`, travel feature
about where to hike in eroded mountains. 2231 `Focus on Romania` as I
started to record for listening later, but somehow it stopped.
Apparently UTwente froze or went offline, still off when I checked by
2320 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, July 26 at 2200, no-show of VOT English into
Maryland or UTwente. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler; so I
take the opportunity to hear RRI simulEnglish on 11800, see ROMANIA
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2200 monitoring: ``From: Richard
Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening
Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees.
Dear Glenn: confirming World of Radio #2200, This the only time it was
loud and better
reception during past fews days, WRMI:
9395 kHz, 0031, 0045, 0054 (45443), 0059, July 25 [Tue] 73’s,
Richard``

Confirmed Tuesday July 25 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S9+10/25 into Missouri
SDR.

Also confirmed Wednesday July 26 at 2100 on WBCQ 7490 -70 Hz =
7489.930, S7/S8 good into Maryland SDR; followed at 2130 by `Plain Old
Doug Show`, music-only, no announcements, he said, but did so at 2144.
Next:

No new contributions this week by MO or check in US funds on a US bank
to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds to:
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9455, July 26 at 0058, RAE multi-lingual IDs, S9+10 direct
but just barely modulated again. 0059.5 cut to canned ``Everglades``
WRMI ID with OK modulation, 0100 rejoin JBM RAE multi-lingual IDs.
Transmitter grid does show 0000-0200 System K at 0100 going from
Japanese hour to Spanish RAE. But bright green System K sked itself
shows 9455, two hours of `Legends` at 0000-0200, except Sundays `The
Mighty KBC`. Something`s odd at Okeechobee (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5130.1 approx., July 26 at 0421 direct, JBA music in HSNL,
as WBCQ 300-watt 24/7 test? continues, why? At least the juice bill on
this one would not be a problem, but hardly viable (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. Large tropo blobs have developed N and E with Enid on the
edges, so DTV bandscan, July 26 from 0455 UT. BAD signals on RF: 36,
35, 34, 31, 26, 22, 21, 17, 16, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9.

RF8, decoding: KPTS also virtual 8, PBS Kansas from Wichita. Not far
but I rarely get this on my OKC-directed antenna. And it`s in solid,
so I explore all its subs: 8-2 Explore, 8-3 Create, 8-4 Kids. I`m
unfamiliar with Explore, one sub-brand of PBS? Instead of `World` on
OETA-2. I go to the websked, and see some of the same programming, but
others never in OK, like `Democracy Now`! KPTS also offers live video
of 8-1 and 8-4, but requires location info, then denies me as
``outside coverage area``! AFAIK, OETA is not geo-restricted for its
main PBS channel streaming. Could others outside OK in USA and even
elsewhere try it? Claims ``anytime, anywhere`` but despite the
separate 100% PBS Kids on OETA-4, OETA-1 is nothing but kidvid all day
weekdays: https://www.oeta.tv/live/

Ironically, I am not in OETA coverage area right now, 13, KETA ``13``
a bad signal not decoding. Besides local harmonic of KNID 107.1 on
214.2 right in RF 13 video band which is always a problem, tropo is
probably knocking it out with DX QRM. There are three full-power 13s
in KS: KUPK Garden City ``cupcake``, cute satellite of KAKE ``10``, 63
kW ERP; KFJX Pittsburg, 45.1 kW; and WIBW Topeka, 65.5 kW, all per FCC
info.

The only other decodes now are from Tulsa market, axually drawn in
from Muskogee & Okmulgee; 20 KQCW 19-1, and 28 ION 44-1 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. A few weeks ago, two of my favorite streaming stations from
my homestate of NM, started failing when pressing button on own
homepages: KUNM Albuquerque, but got it to work on Winamp; KSFR Santa
Fe not even that way. I dislike streaming aggregators, but finally try
that for KSFR and do get it via
https://onlineradiobox.com/us/ksfr/?cs=us.ksfr&played=1
in `Map Is Not Territory`, with The Invisible Man, UT Wed July 26 at
04-06. And also anticipate `Beyond Borders`, Thu 15-18 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7300.141, July 26 at 0641, JBA talk vs HSNL, maybe
English. Nothing listed in Aoki or EiBi, but HFCC shows BULGARIA
on 7300 at 0200-0600, 100 kW at 110 degrees. Possibly TOMBS via
Sofia, tho not typically so far off-frequency, and rather late to
propagate. Nor anything listed anywhere on 7295 or 7305 at this hour
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7431.55 USB approx., July 26 at 0045, apparent MARS net.
Had a hard time finding the sweet spot for readability due to weak and
intermittent signals, HSNL. Most calls truncated, 5 + two letters.
Mixed with some digibursts. Adjacent QRM from 7435 jamming against
nothing, Martí not there at this hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs July 25, 2023  View Printable Version
Tuesday, July 25 2023

Logs
** BRAZIL. 9665.043, July 25 at 0642, another direct measurement of
the variable R. Voz Missionária, Camboriú, Santa Catarina, S5/S6 music
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. David Crawford, FL, replies again to the 6100
situation, and more, 0138 UT July 25:

Re: [HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs July 23-24, 2023 --- I've heard DRM
around 6100 but paid no attention to it on this occasion. So, I can't
draw any conclusions about the presence or absence of co- or
adjacent-channel DRM there during the noisy RHC log. Will check again
here. I've heard that same noisy RHC audio on 9700 once. Tonight 11760
Bauta is the problem, a 40 kHz wide singing blob.

The HM01 spook reawakened at 21Z today, reported on 11635 via UDXF. I
first heard it myself at 2215 on 10715. Usual format, quality. It was
still not there yet at 16 and 17 Z earlier in the day (24 July).

RHC Bauta has been showing up at random times on 9710 or 9650 the past
couple of days, either along with, or instead of, 9535 Bauta. Neither
freq had been used during July. Historically 9710 has been "listed" as
Bejucal, but is all Bauta just now. It will be interesting to see if
RHC Bejucal txs reappear in correlation with the return of HM01, since
they both initially disappeared around the same time in late June.

A curious open carrier was heard on 13740 0430-0448* 23 July GMT, at
levels and flutter fading comparable to RHC 11850 and 15230 at the
time, which might hint at a RHC return to 13 MHz in the works. David
E. Crawford, Indian River City, Florida`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, July 25 at 1955, RHC English one of few sigs on band;
S9/+10, so I let its droning and music assist dozing for my nap, thru
2000 French, 2031 starting Portuguese, contrary to sked, aimed to N
America? As now per version 16 of WRTH PDF update as of July 23; 11760
& 15230 meanwhile are off. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9439.995, July 25 at 2154, R. Cairo, S9+40 into UTwente but
extremely distorted; can recognize as English but not understand.
Tuned to 9440 at first had trouble synching until eventual settle at
.995. Something`s always egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6869.91 AM, July 25 at 0653, carrier detected,
presumably usual pirate, Late Night Lunatics. I am again plagued by
high local noise level from something other than that ChiCom ringlamp
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 93.9 WBFM, July 25 at 2058 UT, KIMY Watonga is still in
dead air, 21 hours after last check, standard remark --- but it`s in
$ tereo! (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.019, July 25 at 2158, VOT English not absent today,
IS & IDs, S9+20/30 into UTwente with overmodulation distortion, worst
in music. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. 2200,
12-second-late timesignal, compared to CHU, can`t get WWV; jumbled
s/on by badax; news, of Greece wildfires, Turkey helping out; Rhodos
is right next to Turkey: any fires over there? Referendum in Mali
demotes French from national language, now merely a working language.
Several of the 13 major languages are now National out of a total of
70. 2213 going from `Review of the Tuerkiyeish Press` to `Weekly
Commentary` by the badax, something about fashion trends in Africa,
millions of tons of fabric destroyed? I cannot follow the gist with
many of her words incomprehensible, to 2226, then extremely distorted
music. 2231 multi-lingual ID filler reel, always with distracting
music. 2233 more and more distort-music. 2241.5 ``ABYS`` promo. 2242
`Tuerkiye`s Geomarked [sic] Products`, saffron plant from a city on
Black Sea, how it`s cultivated and produced, already finished at 2244.
We guess that it`s supposed to be ``geo-marketed`` as in exported,
unless they mean chips are implanted in each strand to mark them
geographically?? Something`s always awry at Ankara. More distorted
music -- much of it would be quite enjoyable otherwise, tsk2. 2253
s/off as always by badax giving same incomplete and jumbled English
sked as s/on, never mentioning this one. 2254 IS briefly and off
2255*. So I devoted another hour of my ever-diminishing valuable
lifetime to this, why? No 2200 English competition from Spain on
Tuesday, and Egypt`s modulation is even worse. Why not 11800 Romania?
Probably not so much to complain about (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2200 monitoring: confirmed UT

** U S A. 9275, July 25 at 1724, some nice harmonica music, sure beats
DEJOM complaining about rival Yahwackos; oh, oh: 1728 WMLK ID and back
to DEJOM when he was just EJOM. Only S3/S7, sure doesn`t seem like 300
kW, but a lot better than nothing from 500 kW 9330 WBCQ WLCR. And
about equal to neighbor 50 kW 9265 WINB. By 1940, 9330 is back on and
in S7/S9 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
