Glenn Hauser logs October 16-17, 2022 |

Tuesday, October 18 2022
** CUBA. 5025, Oct 17 at 0402, R. Rebelde is off. 5040 is in undermodulated Spanish with big hum, // better 11760 so presumably RHC programming. However, at 0639, 5040 music is the only Cuban signal on 5 or 6 MHz, but 11760 is still on //. 11760 normally is off by 03* per Aoki, 02* per EiBi. Due to recent mixups, without an ID, one cannot assume programming now is not Rebelde instead. Ron Howard reports later: ``Oct 16 - I found 5025 was silent from 0823+ UT (past 1035+), but Radio Rebelde was in fact still being heard on 5040, past 1035+``. Still no 5025 signal here at 2311 check Oct 17 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Oct 17 at 0635, no JBA carrier direct from R. Kiribati, this Monday. But without remote chex, cannot be positive whether it`s on the air or not (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NIGERIA [non]. 7255-, Oct 17 at 0637, no signal direct from VON. Also no signal into Spain or Canary SDRs at 1855; hit at 1857 by ChiCom big open carrier, 1900 CRI Tuerkiyeish (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6955 USB, Oct 17 at 2310, pirate music VP S6/7. Many reports here as RFW > Radio Free Whatever: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,103399.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2160 monitoring: Confirmed Sunday October 16 at 2000 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz only, S9/+20 with a SAH and lite musical underference into nearby Noale SDR. If not a 500 or 20-watt UK station, per WRTH 22, Tanzania would not be on at this hour and when on would only be CRI relay! but 50 kW Iran in Azeri runs to 2030*; if not a spoiler from China. WRTH 22 on page 544, MW frequency lists, shows 200, 600 and 500 kW stations on 1323 and a bunch of 10 kW. Sorting everything out is quite a task, likewise at PAL, but the Big Three CRI relays on 1323 are on page 56 (of 408), including one for Russian from East Turkistan most likely to be a problem in Europe, but not on the air 1500*-*1100. Once again, we would be much better off on 918 instead of 1323 as 918 is a virtually clear frequency. Also confirmed UT Monday October 17 at 0030 on WRMI 5950, S9+28 into Athens GA SDR; original 7780 still not restored. Also confirmed UT Monday October 17 at 0300 on WBCQ Area 51, 6160 minus 64 Hz = 6159.936, S9 into Missouri remote. JL axually finished in time! Gotta go. Next: 0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 2230 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed by Cuba] 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI *5850 to NW 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S *frequencies not yet restored as of Oct 16 Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html A noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, preferably by money order or check on a US bank. Thanks this week to Joe Caberlin, VE1EJ, Port Colborne, Ontario Or via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5010, Oct 17 at 0402 this WRMI is S7/S9 of dead air direct. At 0638, 5010, 5800, 5950 all TOMBS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 7260, Oct 17 at 0646, R. Vanuatu JBA on first harmonic = fundamental; intermittent QRM from AM carrier, presumably spoiler ham (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 1140, Oct 17 at 0658 UT, steady big S9+10 open carrier dominates, vs something weaker making fast SAH, continues past hourtop 0700+. More of a signal than we get from our nearest in daytime, 1 kW daytimer KRMP OKC. Too late for me to switch from the E/W longwire on R75 to the DX-398 where I might have DFed it. No modulator really owns 1140 here at night: is 50 kW XEMR Monterrey NL, still active, 24h? Supposedly direxional SW at night per 2013y NRC Pattern Book, but not mentioned as direxional in current IRCA Mexican Log -- the word appears only about 15 times in entire list, some noted as not directional despite official info. WRVA VA pattern unfavorable tho has been heard. KXRB Sioux Falls SD U2 10/5 kW but only if on ND day pattern rather than NNW direxional at night. Second-closest, KLTK in NW Arkansas might do it, 5 kW ND daytimer. Checking circa 1925 UT, KRMP is weak but with a fast SAH, likely KLTK if not TX or MO. Must check again late night and DF if possible (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0006 UT October 18

Sunday, October 16 2022
** CUBA. 6060, Oct 16 at 0650, RHC English with jazz, S9+10/20 but undermodulated with hum, only frequency left unless a JBA carrier on 6165 under local birdie be it; nothing else is scheduled. 6060 gone already at 0653. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 5040, Oct 16 at 0653, music in Spanish so is this RHC Spanish? unseems // 6060 English but which has just vanished. By 0720, 5040 with classic rock songs in English, so is this now RHC English? NO, at 0725 ID in passing, ``Rebelde en la mañana``! Meanwhile, the proper Reb frequency 5025 has been off. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13700, Sunday Oct 16 at 1430, RHC still on but unusually weak compared to // 15140, but which at 1458 at S9 the latter is JBM. By 1503, 15140 is S9+10 and suptorted with weekly Esperanto, louder than // 11760, S9+10, also suptorted with hum, plus another audio undermixing, probably mainstream Spanish. 13700 stays on at 1504 with unscheduled Esperanto, and still not off at 1518, now S9 into Maryland SDR. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GERMANY. 15205.011, Oct 16 at 1432, gospel huxter in English with flutter, slightly off-frequency, gone at 1457 recheck, what? Panam`s Frank & Ernest, what luck, on air only a quarter-hour per week, Sun 1430-1445 per EiBi & Aoki, via Nauen toward S Asia (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** JAPAN. 11825, Oct 16 at 0656, Japanese about Tokyo, S4/S6, instead of 11815 with a presumed weak Brasil. Yes, NHK A22 scheduled 11825 at 0655-0800; 11815 at 0955-1400 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NIGERIA. 7255-, Oct 16 at 0648, no signal direct from VON. At 1721 & 1847, no signal into Canary SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2160 monitoring: new skedgrid of WRMI dated Oct 15 shows no changes in WOR times, including imaginary Saturday 1930 on 15770. Aside from post-Ian temp changes, there could also be unknown other times which are not imaginary. If you happen to run across such a WOR airing, do let me know! I wonder what its true power and azimuth, antenna type be (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5010, Oct 16 at 0652, surprised this WRMI-14 is still on, S9+10 now with TOM, BS with a caller mentioning listening on 5085 - which would have been WTWW many years ago. But WRMI skedgrid has now been updated October 15 showing 5010 at 22-14 daily + TOMBS to 16 Saturdays. 5800 is now off, as sked 22-04 only. 5850 still not restored at all (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. 15770, Oct 16 at 0655, JBA carrier, so along with 15230 JBA carrier, the OSOBs and SSOBs. Jeff said 15770 would be running 24 hours; but can hardly expect it to propagate in the nightmiddle. Yes, new sked shows WRMI-10 on 15770 for 24 hours, partly // 7730, both allegedly on 44 degrees toward Europe. So have one or two such antennas been restored despite initial conclusion it was irreparable? 15230 at this hour presumably CRI Xianyang site, not RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 7260, Oct 16 at 0648, S6/S8 of ``island music`` from RV. Tuning to 11835 at 0659.4 it`s just come on, S6/S8 of music; and 7890 JBA carrier, the harmonix of 3945 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1949 UT October 16

Missed checking the 1930 airing, likewise circa on WA0RCR, 1860 AM. Did anyone hear it? Also missed reconfirming WOR is still no airing at that time on WRMI 15770, which is now back on the air. Fortunately? I got a QSL request out of the blue from a Netherlander with a clip at that time of a gospel huxter, who he thought was WOR, as on the sked! Another WRN NAm webcast confirmed at 0130 UT Sunday October 16. At 0030 UT Sun Oct 16, 7780 is still silent when WOR is scheduled. Just in case, I check all active WRMI frequencies, but noWOR. Of course that`s amid the trihour of TRSW on 5950 UT Sundays, but when WOR has been newly scheduled UT Mondays. Also confirmed UT Sunday October 16 from 0324 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, MO, S9+20 into nearby SDR, but with huge storm noise; lightning is not right over St Louis area, but nearest in SE Kansas, N Arkansas, across central OK to NM and AZ. This caused our NBC station, KFOR, to blow away almost all of SNL except for the opening skit and goodbye! Re Purple Power on World of Radio #2160: ``Thanks for the tip for cleaning the stickiness from the surface of Eton radios. I have a few of them and, with the exception of the Satellit 750, the rest of them all have that problem. One year I left my G8 in Florida over the summer. When I got back here it felt like it had been dipped in maple syrup. I'll be going out tomorrow to look for Purple Power. Best Regards & 73s, Doug Brown, Ont.`` I have no personal familiarity with, just quoting someone. Before purchase, I recommend googling and noting the caveats about it. Seems you`ve got to purchase at least a gallon of it, $ 7 at Walmart. That would clean off an awful lot of Etóns. Maybe you can find some other stuff needing degreasing. We will then continue to work on 7570, 5850 and 7780 kHz, as well as improving 7730 kHz. Thanks for all of your encouraging messages and support`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR) ** U S A. Intrigued by the motto? still atop the KBDT 1160 website, ``Snot Rocket Cock Socket Hot Pocket`` -- is it slightly naughty? I try a broad Google search on that, but except for a few spurious, get nothing but scads of hits back to saigondallasradio.com -- nothing DX related, not even my own logs which have been on the web for several days now. Among all those useless hits, I do see that R. Saigon Dallas used to pertain to 1600 kHz, i.e., KRVA, which would overcome OK reception of KUSHing around sunset. But the current KBDT website shows nothing about 1600 or KRVA. It does say in English that new home is on 1160. I try a couple of Dallas-area SDRs at 2346 UT October 15: one of them gets nothing but noise on both frequencies, the other weak SE Asian songs on 1600, not 1160. At 0000 UT August 16 I listen direct and do not hear anything Asian on either frequency. What does the very slow-loading FCC AM Query say? KRVA 1600 owned by LRAD Media LLC, but it errors out beyond that. Radio-locator agrees about KRVA, while KBDT is licensed to Dallas Broadcasting, LLC. But FCC finally attributes KBDT to Pacific Star Media LLC. I was wanting to check the official FCC SS/SR times for both, which supposedly cut to much lower and direxional power at night. At least for KBDT: October, 0000/1230 UT; November, 2330/1300 UT. Could be 15 minutes difference at KRVA site. As for the motto, maybe a joke of their website designer? No credit for any on homepage. Perhaps someone in The Metroplex DFW market can explain more, such as what has become of 1600? Here`s a thread about it; finally someone thought 1600 may have become S Asian: https://www.radiodiscussions.com/threads/kbdt-1160-sold.747365/ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 26200-26380 approx., Oct 15 at 2125, CODAR swirshing, unusual? to hear on 11m, but sporadic E provides it. Other than visiting one on a coast, is there any way to locate these by frequency range, pulse rates, waterfall patterns, hours, or whatever? Presumably they are licensed by government, maybe even with callsigns (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0536 UT October 16

ZL did not specify a QSX. Except in W Hemisphere, below 7200 is ham, above 7200 is for broadcasting, like RNZI on 7245 but not on yet. Previous WRMI update direct from Jeff said 7730 would be among the frequencies still to be reactivated. That should have read 7780. However whenever we check, 7730 is JBA on low power so really of no use. The FB version, as of about 22 UT Oct 14: ``WRMI Radio Miami International 18h · HELLO EUROPE! - 15770 kHz is back on the air, finally, after Hurricane Ian damaged the transmission lines. The regular schedule is 1100-0000 UTC daily, but we might extend the schedule somewhat in the coming days. Our next targets are 21525, 5850, 7570 and 7780 kHz. Quite a mess. But it`s a good S9/+10 signal. How about into target Europe? Only noisy S7/S9 at UTwente, 1629 cut to ``That`ll be the day that I die`` tune. And more fill music 1630+. Yet the skedgrid shows SMTV on 15770 at 14-19. By 1727 recheck, 15770 is on SMTV. At 1740, music and SFX, like soundtrack to a WB cartoon of yesterday but with some Chinese dialog, and English, 1744 outro as a skit with actors protected during COVID, about the S.M. Skedgrid still shows System B on 15770 instead of 9955 at 19-20 only, including WOR Saturday at 1930, despite having deleted us from there months ago. So we continue without any WRMI broadcast toward Europe (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 7890, Oct 15 at 0705, presumed Bislama talk is JBA on 2 x 3945 R. ** CANADA. 28197 CW, Oct 14 at 2141, four dashes at step-down powers, DE VE7MTY/B --- relog of Oct 7 & 8, q.v. ``28.197 VE7MTY C PITT MEADOWS, BC # 25W, VERTICAL`` See also MEXICO, USA, more this session (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CANADA. Re my VE9XX log, ``Not clear why he keeps a 9 call in a #1 call area. More unique?`` ``Originally, all three Maritime provinces (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island) used the VE1 prefix. VE9 used to be for experimental stations. In 1990, the PEI prefix for new licences became VY2 and in 1994, the NB prefix for new licences became VE9. Holders of a VE1 prefix in NB had the choice to keep it or switch to VE9. For example, VE1UNB became VE9UNB. Only NS retained the VE1 prefix. And so there are hams in all three provinces using VE1 just not all of them. -- Richard Langley`` ``VE9 has been the NB call sign for quite a while now. See “Call signs in Canada” on Wikipedia, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Brunswick which says: ``<< with latecomer "VE9" for New Brunswick. ("VE1" used to be for all three Maritime provinces.)>>> 73, Saul Broudy (W3WHK), Philadelphia, PA, USA`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13740, Oct 14 at 1456, RHC on here instead of 13700, but off by 1505 recheck. The Other Side: ``Protests in Cuba: 'The rift between the regime and the people is widening, the circumstances for a total breakdown are in place' Three analysts offer DIARIO DE CUBA their viewpoints on the most recent demonstrations: 'People have learned to stop being mere populations, and are starting to be citizens'. WORLD OF RADIO 2160 monitoring: confirmed UT Friday Oct 14 at 0330 on WRMI 9455, S9+20 into west TX SDR, substituting, temporarily? for still silent 7780. Also from TX: ``Hello my friend! I have been listening to your program via WRMI on 9.455 MHz. On Thursday nights at 2230 my time (Central Time), 0330 GMT. It`s great and I wanted to tell you how much I enjoy it and how helpful and informative it is. I remember your name from a couple of club bulletins out of my past, (ASWLC, NASWA). It does my heart good to see you are still at work in the SWL hobby. Terry Kelly K5NGD`` ``Heard the second half of the program via WRMI on 9455 kHz, 0345-0400 UT on Oct. 14. Signal was generally fair, although some fades were more difficult to counteract. Average SINPO 43333. 73, Ricky Leong, Calgary, Alberta, Canada`` Also confirmed Friday October 14 at 1430 on WRMI 9955, S8/S9 direct, undermodulated, no jamming audible; by 1455 down to S4/S5. Also confirmed Friday October 14 from 1815.3 on IRRS SW via BULGARIA 7290.001, S7/S9 into UTwente, and also JBA S5 on X2 = 14580 at 1833 check, tuning LSB to avoid warble on USB; and on AM Italia, 1323 kHz, Villa Estense, where there is continuing heavy CCI from Romania in German, WOR at best vying for equal level, intolerable; while 918 transmitter is not on air despite clear frequency, as if they are not taking my advice. To completion 1844. My monitoring before and after: 1756 I tune in 1323 to hear classical piano music from Romania, IRRS English talk underneath. 1759 Hungarian announcement atop IRRS; 1800 `Feature Story News` is JBA under German now from Rom. Always late at *1800.8, 7290 pops on the air, JIP `FSN`; 1803 `Spotlite` segment about threats to wildlife; 1805 IRRS ID and music fill, until 1812 opens an astronomy show, missed title, but hosted by someone from magazine Universe Today, guest about Jupiter being close to Opposition; and the DART mission. Chopped of at 1815 for IRRS ID and WOR. Afterwards, 1844 music, ID, more music fill until 7290 chops off at 1857 just in time to avoid the ChiCom ACI which is just starting; while 1323 continues with birdcalls, fragment of TUC Radio opening, still heavy CCI from Romania in German until few seconds of tone from it at 1900 and off, just in time to hear on 1323 ``IRRS Shortwave signing off`` and Verdi theme --- even tho SW 7290 already cuts off at 1857 without any formal s/off!! At 1903 `Feature Story News`. Also confirmed next play on AM Italia 1323 only, at 2030 after Irish music show, IRRS/NEXUS ID, S9+5/15, now with much less QRM but still some understation. [WOR] WRMI 15770 kHz Back On the Air From: Radio Miami International <radiomiami9@gmail.com> Sent: Friday, October 14, 2022, 11:30:52 PM GMT+1 [2230:52 UT] ``Dear Clients, Listeners and Friends: At 1900 UT today (October 13), WRMI's frequency of 15770 kHz was back on the air, finally, after Hurricane Ian had severely damaged the transmission lines between this transmitter and antenna. We have been broadcasting much of the normal 15770 kHz programming on other WRMI frequencies since the hurricane, but everything is now back on 15770 kHz again. Next week, we will be working on getting 21525, 5850, 7570 and 7730 kHz back on the air. We are already broadcasting on our other frequencies of 5010, 5800, 5950, 7730, 9395, 9455, 9955 and now 15770 kHz. We want to thank dozens of WRMI listeners, clients and supporters around the world who have donated to our hurricane restoration fund to get all of our frequencies back on the air as soon as possible after the strong winds of Hurricane Ian did extensive damage to our antennas and transmission lines. We greatly appreciate their contributions and the dedication of our staff who have been working continuously to restore everything back to normality. Jeff White Jeff White, General Manager WRMI Radio Miami International 10400 NW 240th Street Okeechobee, Florida 34972 USA Tel +1-305-559-9764 Fax +1-863-467-0185 www.wrmi.net`` Nominal 15770 WRMI-9 hours are/were: 1100-2400 UT - but I had just checked circa 2345 and no signal into UTwente or Maryland SDRs. Is it again on a 44 degree azimuth, antenna which was reportedly irreparable? Glenn Walt Salmaniw replies: ``I've got a somewhat strong wobbly carrier on 15770 at 0004 UT tune in, Glenn. OC only. Walt in Masset, BC`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 3265+, Oct 14 at 2358, no WBCQ signal into Maryland SDR when it might have been gearing up for 1 hour a week activity during `AAAWWW`; while IS & ID loop is running on 5130-, two hours earlier than on other nights. At 0000 UT Sat Oct 25, that joins 6160- and 7490- for `AAAWWW`, which seems to be new despite initial A&A banter about whether her mike is on, etc., discussion of big egos among broadcasters, especially TV --- until at 0008 he admits that this is live if you are hearing it on 2 September 2022. We`re not, but checking my log, I missed it that week. At 0034 he readmits that it`s 2 Sept YOOLF 2022, from Studio 9 in FLA. Then checking today`s twit: ``Allan Weiner @AllanWBCQ · 11h [c. 13 UT Oct. 14] 7490/6160/5130 kHz tonight at 8pm eastern. Angela & Allan Worldwide. Tune up that great shortwave radio and let’s have some fun. Listen in. Call in. Email in. 207-286-5483, wbcq@wbcq.com. All for you on WBCQ. Unstable times need real non-fake media. Real radio. Real life❤️`` -- so he correctly does not claim to be on 3265 this week, but since it`s a sesquimonth- old-rerun, why does he ask for calls-in?? 0035 olds about FCC notifying property owners about fines for accommodating pirates. New clients on any WBCQ frequency are charged a flat rate of $ 50/hour, less than a meal at a restaurant, he thinx. Larger blox negotiable. 0056 squeezes in some FRW logs of frequency and name only, just in from Harold; back then (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5130 minus 26 Hz = 5129.974, UT Sat Oct 15 at 0230-0259, good `Greek Music Refuge` on WBCQ Radio Angela, programmed by Zacharias Liangas and presented by Bill Tilford, S8/S9 into Maryland remote, then 0300 faux-timesignal and `FTIOM` ``For you to Enjoy``. Opening edited in ``5130`` instead of 4790 which remains in email address (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 7260, Oct 14 at 0624, usual poor signal of R Vanuatu X1 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VATICAN. 9645, Friday October 14 at 0618, RCC-style chanting in unknown language, S7/S9, presumed Vatican Radio, but normally here only on UT Sundays for Ukrainian & Romanian liturgies at 0605/0820; per EiBi, CNR1 Beijing site these hours on 9645 except Siesta Tuesdays, but no sign of that. So Oct 14 is some holy-day for the RCatholix? Nothing about it in the Oct 13 Vatican News Newsletter, to which I subscribed in a mostly-vain attempt to keep informed about its SW broadcasts (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 0327 UT October 15
