KURDISTAN [non]. 17460, Aug 19 at 1831, propagation quite degraded,
but I do detect JBA carriers here direct, two of them making a beat,
so surely Dengê Welat, Tashkent site? and on very slightly different
frequency, Turkish jamming from Emirler. No other carriers in the
17450-17495 range except there`s often algo on 17495 where nothing is
listed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Aug 19 at 1818, LRA36 is on with
another reliable Saturday afternoon broadcast, S6/S8 as I tune in via
Argentine remote. Chatting, crediting this as joint produxion with
Universidad de Quilmes and RAE. After lunch, recheck at 1851 it`s off
- normally there are abrupt transmission breaks, or sometimes never
returning. This time it does at *1853, still chatting about Antastuff.
By 1907 songs. 1912 contact info, ``comunicad``. Greetings to/from
nearby Arglisteners. I suspect most of them there hearing via domestic
LRA network relays; but also a ham call mentioned. 1954 still going
with Quilmes plug. 2011 Uniendo Voces ID. 2026 check still going. And
at 2208, but off by 2222. Sorry, but this afternoon I am multi-tasking
including listening to other emissions (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. Rafael Rodríguez R. in Colombia writes me, and I translate:

``RHC 9700 kHz Bauta -- This was published in the FB group `Todo sobre
Radio y Diexismo` by Engineer José Ibrahim Pose Morera, in charge of
the Bejucal transmission center. It`s his opinion of what could have
happened to the RHC signal on 9700 from Bauta.``

``Sometimes satellite receivers are used as backup linx in case the
main routes fail. The satellite receivers sometimes ``de-program``
themselves with failures of AC or abrupt voltage changes, going to
channel 00 which is Cubavision. It`s necessary to reboot them to
return to the RHC channel. I`m not 100% certain that it`s like this at
Bauta, but it is in my work. Aggravating the situation at Bauta is
that the programming transmitted on this frequency is in English and
may not be perceived by the operator. It also could happen that a
transmission starts OK and later this happens.``

Is he suggesting that ``Cadillac Man`` in English was being broadcast
on Cubavision? There are about 10 different channels, and it seems not
unusual to be running Yanqui movies late at night. Maybe with original
English sound, but subtitled. Program skeds do not want to go back in
time, at

** TURKEY. 11785.009, Aug 19 at 2200, no signal direct from VOT
English, not even JBA carrier; not checked UTwente until 2210, now
it`s on so must have started late. Something`s always erroneous at
Emirler. News until 2212, then multi-lingual ID filler reel.
2230-2234, `Gripping Piles` [?], on UNESCO banning smartphones, in
schools? At first I thought they were saying ``sulfites``! Usual
mixture with musix. 2252 usual canned jumbled s/off and IS. By 2257
still on interspersing German IDs; 2300 almost accurate timesignal and
opening German, as the op must be dozing instead of turning off before
2300. Something else is always erroneous at Emirler. Still going past
2313 when I check the signal: S9+40. I wonder what their audience in
Germoeurope is like past 1 am? It made no sense in the first place to
run German at that hour even on satellite and internet program feed.
Still going at 2321, 2338. It could be abruptly interrupted if they
awaken. 2353 s/off until the rehearing, and IS. 2357 starts Portuguese
IDs. This language is not supposed to be on SW at any hour. Good
timing for Brasil, but would only hit ouvintes by chance unless they
know to keep checking every night. 2400 almost accurate TS and s/on
with satellite parameters only for Portugal and Brasil --- but finally
chopped off air at 2401* before I could get to check out reception in
Brasília. Neither EiBi nor Aoki account for these bonus broadcasts
sporadically after 2300 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2204 monitoring: confirmed Saturday
August 19 at 1600 on WRN North American webcast.

Also confirmed Saturday August 19 starting at 1943 the 1930v on
WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, VG into nearby remote. Just before then the RAIN
report was presenting Benn Kobb of Experimental Radio, about the
upcoming LPFM licensing window and the emergency alert test.

Also confirmed circa 1945 the WOR webcasts presumably starting at 1930
on WRMI, and WRN for North America. Next:

0030 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to SW
0245vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0315; as late as 0457]

One may also contribute via MO or check on a US bank in US funds to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Tropo is up for DTV around here. Besides the usual Tulsans
on 20, 26, 28, 34, I am getting solid decode from only one Wichita
station, KAKE ``10`` on RF 10; not often seen here with antenna aimed
at OKC. From circa 0300 UT Aug 19. Rabbitears.info shows KAKE is on
both RF 10 and RF 21 from exactly the same tower, why? More power on
VHF; I think I have seen it before on 21 but not now. Subchannels
match r-e info.
10-1 KAKE-DT ABC
10-2 MeTV
10-3 Bounce
10-4 Defy
10-5 SCRIPPS news
After 0400 I stick with SCRIPPS for a MAUI Lost Island special, tho I
could also get it on 62-5 OKC. Finally at 0456, 10-1 signal breaks up
and away. But there are still plenty of BAD sigs, including RF 6,
which on my ch 7+ antenna I always assume is KBSD Dodge City KS,
without evidence to contrary. Indeed, APRS tropo blob now extends out
to Ensign area (Glenn Hauser, Enid, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs August 18, 2023  View Printable Version
Saturday, August 19 2023

Logs
** BRAZIL. 9664.932, Aug 18 at 0659, RVM S1/S3 JBA. Again suffering
from high noise level something in the neighborhood (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CHINA. 13020, Aug 18 at 2327, Chinese vs clickkery 13000-13025 like
OTH radar. A longrunning ChiCom CNR1 jamming vs Sound of Hope
frequency. I had not been in habit of checking this area lately. Also,
13530 at 2330 with JBA music vs CODAR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5025, Aug 18 at 0710, R. Rebelde is OFF. No RHCs found on any
band. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9439.994, Aug 18 at 2134, R. Cairo S9+25/45 into UTwente but
with extreme distortion, total loss. Something`s always egregious in
Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EUROPE. 9290.017, Aug 18 at 2010, presumed R. Spaceshuttle
International, poor signal with rock music, interspersed with DJ talk,
Dick Spacewalker, S7/S8 into UTwente, probably too close, getting
residual groundwave or backscatter. 21st anniversary special supposed
to last all weekend, See http://spaceshuttleradio.freeservers.com/
It`s after 1400 Aug 18 but I do not see anything more specific about
birthday schedule than 9290. Website has roster of everyone(?)
reporting or QSLed over the years. I`m there once for: ``21st of April
2012, VOR Extra, 15843 usb``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** IRELAND. 13264 USB, Aug 18 at 2329, YL with VOLMET, about
Copenhagen. This is Shannon (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 101.5, Aug 18 at 1820 UT, KOCD Okeene still dead air in
$ tereo for at least the tenth day, first noticed Aug 9 (Glenn Hauser,
Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. Tropo up from OKC, Aug 18 at 0510 UT. On RF 36 I am
getting decode, so explore all the subs into the STB. As I flip thru
the channels, I am getting input from two *different* RF channels.
This is very confusing. At each stop on the virtual span I change to
RF to see where it`s really coming from.

36-1, first the PSIP ID is KUOKCD1 which means it`s RF36;
36-1, later just KUOK which is RF 29. That`s Univision on both
36-2, UNIMAS, RF 29
36-2, UNIMAS, RF 36
36-3, this number is skipped!
36-4, Catchy, RF 36
36-5, H&I, fades below threshold before I can check
36-6, seems another one here I did not get to

For KUOK-CD, RF 36 & virtual 36, rabbitears.info shows:
36-1 KUOK
36-2 Unimas
36-3 [skipped]
36-4 StartTV
36-5 H&I
36-6 3ABN
48-1 Estrella

Catchy is a Comedy channel. Its website does lead to 36.4 KUOK for ZIP
73101:
https://www.catchycomedy.com/schedule/

Rabbiters.info has lots of stations on that net, mostly translators,
but nothing for Market 50, OKC:
https://www.rabbitears.info/search.php?request=network_search&network=Catchy+Comedy

Note: adding to the confusion, the *real* plain old KUOK is in far
Woodward, RF and virtual 35 with UNI, never? seen here, 8 kW ERP. Are
the OKC KUOKs considered as subsidiaries/satellites/relays of the
Woodward one? Surely it`s the other way around. RF 36 site in OKC is
just east of Santa Fe Ave on SE 49th St.

Note also, RF 29 KTUZ with its panoply is really licensed to Shawnee,
which is rather too far out to be considered a suburb of OKC. Its
transmitter site is really among the NE OKC antenna farm, halfway
between Kelley & Eastern a few blox south of Britton Road (Glenn
Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Fri Aug 18 at 2200, token English from SNR, not
opening with multi-lingual IDs so guess that was a fluke or optional.
Again no sign of Justin Coe, just cohostessed by Amy Egan and Marilín
Quintana. VG signal into Maryland SDR. 2207 first feature is about
some cyclist from Toledo who won the Tour de France and just died at
age 95. 2216 contact info. 2217 forests in flames in Spain, including
Tenerife, interviewing someone there with a very heavy accent hard to
understand (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, Aug 18 at 2200, VOT English, not off the air, VG
signal into UTwente, mod OK except rather distorted during music. 2222
ending `Weekly Analysis`, music; 2225 multi-lingual ID filler reel;
etc. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2204 monitoring: NOT confirmed
Friday August 18 at 2030 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz - instead
some preacher or storyteller with a heavy Irish? accent. Maybe same
thing as on the European Gospel Radio stream but not synch. WOR still
shows at this time on the NEXUS-IBA Friday program schedule! Next:

0130 UT Saturday WRMI 5850 to NW
1930 UT Saturday WRMI webcast only:
http://wrmi.listen.creek.fm/stream
and phonecast: +1-641-741-1762

0245vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0315; as late as 0457]
1130 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 [NEW, unconfirmed][jammed by Cuba?]

2000 UT Sunday WRMI web/phonecast only? [not Aug 13]
2000 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy
0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW
0300vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW
0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-LSB
1030 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-LSB [previous #2203]
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
