Hauser

Please note and spread the word - for those not on a list where my almost-daily all-band but mainly SW log reports appear -- or for those who are but find this a more convenient archive, weekly merged roundups of all these reports in their original form are posted early every UT Thursday via:

http://www.worldofradio.com/Hauserlogs.html

Hauser
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RCUSB, May 25 at 1430-1546, NO show of LRA36
this Wednesday; first checking via Bs As remote, from 1448 a few tones
like a birdcall repeating; at 1510 some unID 2-way QRM off-frequency.
I then check all three Argentine and three Brazilian SDRs which get
nothing from it. Better luck on Saturday? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 290 MCW kHz, May 25 at 0621 UT, dash and QR, 100-watt ND
beacon at Regina, Sask., is JBA vs storm noise level, now from TX and
SE sextant of USA, not closer.

248 MCW kHz, May 25 at 0617 UT, dash and WG, 1000-watt NDB at
Winnipeg, Manitoba, the #1 Canadian to be audible if any (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 3330, May 25 at 0230, JBA carrier, perhaps not CHU, as no
signals on 7850 or 14670. Still not recovered from May 21 storm power
outage. If there were no axual damage, needs to be reset?? Apparently
a low priority at NRC; meanwhile, timeseeking Canux may have
permission to hear WWV. This uninformative notice appears on one
webpage but not the one about System Status:

``Due to the recent severe weather event in the Ottawa-Gatineau area,
the CHU time signal for shortwave radio has been impacted and is
currently unavailable. We are working to restore the service as
quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 4765, May 25 at 0223, R. Progreso is off. Nominal span is
0030-0400. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, May 25 at 0225, RHC English is off, but attains 6165.
Something`s always wrong at RHC.

[non]. 6060, at 0226 May 25, has two weak carriers with a beat. Altho
Aoki shows RHC from 0100, probably instead Zahedan, Iran in Arabic
until 0230; and if active, SRDA Curitiba, Brasil, seldom heard by
itself (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6060, May 25 at 0627, RHC is S9/+10 of huge humbuzz with
English JBA underneath; but 6100 is still on, S9+20/30 VG in English,
better than 6165, S9+10/20. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15730, May 25 at 2225, S7/S9 of dead air. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 255 MCW kHz, May 25 at 0616 UT, SW, ND beacon at
StillWater, is BACK!! Checked almost every night, or day, there has
been nothing until now. SW was first not heard here on June 16, 2021
--- many subsequent chex found it still missing. The MARE Log Summary
as of 29 April shows SW was last logged 15 Sept 2021, but I never
heard it even then.

Classaxe.com shows last logged 2021-04-04, 50 watts with this note:
``u/s to 19Apr22 // Extended to May 30, 2022`` --- what means u/s??
dxinfocenter.com shows 25 watts, certainly weak enough for that.

Storm noise is slightly less tonight, from TX and SE sextant of USA,
not closer to OK. I also detect at 0618 UT May 25, tuned to 265 USB:
267 MCW kHz, HET, 25 watt ND beacon at HenryEtTa; unknown if irregular
but seldom audible (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, May 25 at 0500-0507, YP1 via WRMI immediately
starting English segment `Ukraine: Security Issue` (Glenn Hauser, oK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2139 monitoring: ``From: Richard
Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening
Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF. Antenna: random long wires in the trees.
Dear Glenn:

From WRMI Facebook page,
`Regular listeners may have noted that our frequency of 9455 kHz is
off the air. We have some transmission line problems, and our
engineers are working to get 9455 back on as soon as possible`

World of Radio, monitoring and confirming the latest for #2139,
Go, Oilers Go, WRMI:

9395, static noise, 0132, 0146, 0158 (45433), 0159, May 21 UT [Sat]
9395, S7 signal heard, 0052 (45443), 0059, May 24 UT [Mon]
5850, slight other QRN heard, 1029, 1043 (55433), 1100, May 25 [Wed]
(Lemke, Richard -AB) Good listening, Richard, May 25, 2022``

Confirmed Tuesday May 24 at 2230 on WRMI 9955, S9+5/10 into Bonaire
SDR, with rapid clicking, not the usual Cuban jamming roarsound; but
S9+30/35 into Knoxville SDR with no QRM, even tho off the back but
closer than Bonaire.

Clickjam grows after 2300 vs R. Libertad, and by 0045 May 25 has
become huge, sprawling 9950-9978, also blocking weaker 9975 KVOH as
monitored at Bonaire.

WOR 2139 also confirmed Tuesday May 24 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S9/S4 but
noisy.

Also confirmed Wednesday May 25 from 2100:32.5 on WBCQ 7490v, S7/S9
into Maryland SDR, while at 2055 direct, only JBA carrier. (Before
2100 the speaker on `Financial Survival` was propagating Russian
propaganda that Ukrainians commit war crimes.) Next:

0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 9455 to WNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 9395 to NNW

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html

For these noncommercial services, voluntary financial support is much
appreciated, thanks this week to Radio Dan, Ohio; preferably by MO or
check in US$ on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702

Or via PayPal not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com

New WOR 2140 should be ready early UT Fri May 27 for first broadcasts
at 0130 on WRMIs 5850 & 7730 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 4980, May 25 at 0222, this WRMI is back on air with what
else? TOMBS, missing last night. Also 4975 parasitic spur (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7505, May 25 at 0228, WRNO is back on with gospel music,
missing for several nights; however, gone again at 0636 check rather
than all-night (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Re WEWN down to one frequency: ``[WOR] WEWN May 22 at 4:24
PM --- I dimly remember that Glenn or someone else here had contacts
to the Vandiver station or someone else responsible for the EWTN
shortwave operations?

It would not hurt to find out what's up there. Looks like English, the
hours for West Africa on 15610/9385 kHz left since 2018/2019, is
completely gone since mid-March, and I see the last mentions of 5970
kHz being heard in mid-April. I don't know if they did on 12050 kHz a
five minutes sign-on, like they do it now, already when it was just a
frequency change from 5970. But in the case of English I meanwhile
really suspect that it could this time be gone for good.

By the way, in last September the Pope made his opinion about EWTN
known...

https://www.ncronline.org/news/vatican/pope-francis-issues-thinly-veiled-criticism-ewtn-comments-gender-ideology
Kai Ludwig``

Must read that NCR story! Quite a schism as the Mother Angelicans
consider themselves ``more Catholic than the Pope``.

So on May 22 I sent this to Glen Tapley, but there has been no reply:

``Hi Glen, We can`t help but notice that after English broadcasts
disappeared, Spanish is now left with only the daytime frequency
12050. Could you enlighten us on what the situation is? Is EWTN
deliberately withdrawing from radio/SW broadcasting, are more and more
transmitters non-funxional, or what? Thanks, Glenn Hauser``

```[WOR] WEWN. May 25 at 5:25 PM --- Don't remember if if this info
has been posted recently:
``Thank you for the email. Due to supply issues and lack of parts
available, we are presently unable to broadcast our English
programming. Once the parts arrive, we will perform the necessary
maintenance and resume our English transmissions. Say howdy to Glenn
for me (Glen Tapley, EWTN)`` Jean-Michel Aubier, France```
So how long ago was that? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** VANUATU [non]. 11835.178V, May 25 at 0638, checking for R. Vanuatu
I find a JBA wobbly carrier, behaving like a local birdie, but which I
have not had before vs RV when it was on. No 7890 either (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 16-24 MHz, May 25 around 0100, viewing the Bonaire SDR
waterfall, which is set at very wideband, I see some JBV diagonal
lines starting about 16 MHz on up to fade around 21, 22 or max 24 MHz.
I assume these are from ionosonde somewhere, tracking the MUFs; and if
listening to one frequency between, might hear them cross. Probably
starting much below 16 but lost in the clutter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CANADA. 3330 & 7850 & 14670, May 24 at 0207, weak carriers but no
timesignal modulation from CHUs. The May 21 storms may have disrupted
power supply, but if they can now get on the air at all, why not
resume service?? Still at 0634 dead air on 3 & 7 propagating. At 1525,
14670 & 7850 are only JBA carriers (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** EGYPT. 9439.995, May 24 at 2202, R. Cairo, S9+35 into UTwente with
news in English, axually readable tho considerably distorted and
hummy, better than usual (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** MALDIVES [non]. 11620, May 24 at 1526, Voice of Martyrs Korea,
S4/S8 in Dhivehi, via secret site direct. If Taiwan as wb suggests, we
are *way* offbeam. 1529 music, 1529.8 English sign-off uncovering JBA
carrier from Vatican. Similar signal on 11825, S4/S6, known to be
Reach Beyond Australia, in Myanmarianese (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** PHILIPPINES. 15435, May 24 at 1535, Korean at S9/+10, so here`s
why: BBC at 1530-1830 via Tinang, no doubt on the 21-degree beam which
happens to carry right on toward us making it the SSOB = strongest
signal on band - and that includes anything from USA or Cuba (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** RUSSIA [non]. 9370, May 24 at 1956 tune-in via UTwente, OC already
on, 1957.6 JIP Russian, pause by 2000, IS and ID R. Svoboda. So the
secret unofficial relay, via Armenia? Is active today (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)
** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, May 24 at 0503-0509, UR1 via WRMI, VG into
Maryland SDR, English segment `Ukraine: Security Issue` a little later
than usual, leading Ivo to assume it never appeared today (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 15770, May 24 at 1930, WRMI relay of VOA remote news, VG
into Maryland SDR, and from 1935 `Flashpoint: Ukraine` dated for this,
the third mensaversary of the War, succeeds --- but wait! At 1946
abruptly chopped to music fill starting with running water, for rest
of semihour; 2000, VORW, John explains that he doesn`t have time to do
a [new] show tonight, so a rerun ensues. But everything`s fine, he
reassures us. AFAIK this hour started airing originally on May 19, so
it`s been a while already (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2139 monitoring: confirmed UT
Tuesday May 24 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9/+20; but // 9455 is OFF -- as
it has been a lot lately as also noticed by Richard Lemke, Alberta --
maybe completely from 24/7 schedule. Next:
2230 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed by Cuba]
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW [NEW]
1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, Australia 5035-USB or 3210-USB
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
** U S A. 4980, May 24 at 0639, no signal from this WRMI with TOMBS
and consequently no 4975 parasite either. 9455 also off at 0641 while
9395 & 9955 are good. Is 9455 totally off from 24/7 schedule? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CANADA. 14670, May 23 at 1504, JBA carrier S8 but no CHU pips
audible; and nothing on 7850. Ontario & Quebec hit by a storm May 21
with heavy damage including to CHU. Richard Langley, NB reported at
2110 May 23:
``I have been in touch with the CHU technical officer and he reports:
"We are still assessing the situation, we should know more soon.
I have not even been allowed on the site yet."
Note that CHU is controlled remotely from the NRC Montreal Road
(Ottawa) campus. Following (presumably) resumption of power at the
station, the transmitters went into some sort of default mode. --
Richard Langley``
NRC webpage detailing CHU outages, had not been updated since last
September:
https://nrc.canada.ca/en/chu-short-wave-station/
but by 2200 May 23 shows all three offline since 2000 UT May 21, but
never any details as to why. Via Ron Trotto here`s about the storm but
not mentioning CHU:
https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.6462627
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** RUSSIA [non]. 9369.9985, May 23 at 1913, UTwente is getting
S9+20/30 in Russian, R. Svoboda 1900- unofficial relay, via Armenia?
Or Uzbekistan? 1959 ID and runs until abrupt cutoff at 2001*. This
transmission had been missing at my last check May 21 on the Izhevsk,
Russia SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 9830.018, May 23 at 2207, VOT English, S9+40 into UTwente
but huge squeal vs the talk. Somewhat obscured at 2227 during loud
music, but still infesting when talk resumes at 2238 and 2243 soft
music. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, May 23 at 0500-0507.8, UR1 via WRMI,
immediately into English `Ukraine: Security Issue`, war summary for
Day 88 = May 22, by the YL anchor who does the best job. Final story
about a woman muralist who has painted a huge 5 x 6 meter image of the
F-you postage stamp against the Russian warship. She had a hard time
getting the original stamp to go by. VG into Maryland SDR (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2139 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
May 22 at 2230 still on 5950, S8/S9 into Knoxville SDR, altho still
not shown on skedgrid.
Also confirmed UT Monday May 23 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9/+10 into
Maryland SDR with storm crashes.
Also confirmed UT Monday May 23 from 0300 sharp on Area 51 via WBCQ
6160, minus 56 Hz into Maryland SDR = 6159.944, S9+5/15. Preceded by
multiple loops of ``WDCD Radio`` IDs from previous program. Next:
0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 9455 to WNW
2230 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed by Cuba]
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW [NEW]
** U S A. 15770, Sunday May 22 at 1930, WRMI after Prague relay,
classical music fill mostly solo `cello, instead of scheduled
`Wavescan` --- another no-show like no WOR except 6 words Sat May 21
at 1930; otherwise M-F should be VOA news + Flashpoint Ukraine. 2000
C&W music apparently Memphis Weirdos as sked from System H, also shown
on Sys B sked but as ``internet only`` this hour. On caradio (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 7490v, Sunday May 22 at 2230, WBCQ with second half of
`UBMP` on webcast, but conx out at 2240, 404 unfound. So I am forced
to listen on SW for the rest of it, sufficient into Maryland SDR. The
first half hopefully will repeat Monday at 2300 on both. Yes, stream
is working May 23, says first aired in June 2021, starting with
original version from Rhodesia of `The Lion Sleeps Tonight` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** VANUATU. 11835, May 23 at 0623, still no R. Vanuatu on 3 x 3945. It
came back only on May 19, but keep checking (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 16m bandscan May 23 at 0616-0620 UT finds multiple
carriers mostly JBA from the dayside, now penetrating into the
nightside tnx to north polar summer midnight sun: 17485, 17510, 17500,
17530*, 17540, 17615, 17650, 17680, 17710, 17720, 17730, 17740, 17780,
17790*, 17810, 17830, 17865. No doubt most if not all could be
list-logged referencing EiBi/Aoki/HFCC with few collisions. *the
stronger ones, no doubt MADAGASCAR as previously logged. Nonesuch on
13m however, also surveyed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CANADA. 7850 & 3330 RC USBs, May 22 at 0659, no signals from CHU,
apparently off due to storms; but time marches on (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
** CUBA. 13680, May 22 at 2240, RHC Spanish S9/+20 on secret
frequency, still missing from EiBi but which has not been updated
since May 3; nor in Aoki as of May 21 which has made little effort to
include true current RHC listings (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 6000 & 6060 & 6100 & 6165, UT Sunday May 22 at 0700, all RHC
frequencies are off so nowhere for Esperanto scheduled now.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** MEXICO. 6185, May 22 at 0700, still no signal from R. Educación.
Stephen Luce, Houston TX, replied on the WOR iog: ``Glenn, I haven't
heard anything out of XEPPM for the past few days here in Houston at
various checks between 0300 and 0500 UT. Usually has a decent signal
though audio levels can be all over the place`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
** RUSSIA. 78 kHz, re my report of Mayak heard via Izhevsk SDR,
shortly after posting that, another possibility occurred to me:
remnant of ``rediffusion`` wired ``broadcasting`` on LW. And then
multiply confirmed on the WOR iog:
``Also regarding the 78 kHz signal on the Russian SDR: I recall seeing
a similar report a few years ago, and it was said to be the SDR
picking up RF from an old Soviet era wired radio distribution system
that (amazingly) is still in operation. That same report also
mentioned a second signal on 120 kHz. Perhaps this is what you heard?
Stephen Luce, Houston, Texas``
``This is a traditional line transmitter/wire radio frequency in
Russia. So looks like this type of broadcasting is still on in some
cities.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linjesender
73, Patrick Robic, Austria``
``Hi Glenn, That's easy: 78 kHz is the Mayak subcarrier in Russian
cable radio networks that still remain operational in some cities
here.
Unfortunately the English Wikipedia article says nothing about such
networks in Russia. Russian article is much more extensive, and you
can also find some info on this matter in the Spanish one:
https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9F%D1%80%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%BE%D0%B4%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B5_%D0%B2%D0%B5%D1%89%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%B5
https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_por_cable
By the way, cable radio in my city is completely off since 2012, due
to economical non-efficiency. Best 73, Dmitry Mezin, Kazan, Russia``
``Cute! How convenient to find this SDR already tuned to 78 kHz. I
almost wonder why I so far did not have the idea to check if somewhere
Radiotochka bleed-out can still be detected.
By the way, word has it that in the GDR some wired radio systems (I
understand using frequencies above 150 kHz, for use with regular radio
sets) remained in operation into the 70s. But so far no citations are
available to back up this gossip.
And don't confuse two different things: "Cable radio" will nowadays in
a number of countries be understood as "FM radio via TV coax cable",
as introduced in the eighties. It's at present a nice voodoo doll for
those who want to "close down analogue radio", and then they are very
surprised when being told that this political gesture will just bring
the cable distribution of many radio stations to an end.
Kai Ludwig, Germany`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SAO TOME E PRINCIPE. 17530.079, Sun May 22 at 1458, JBA carrier,
one of few sigs on band beyond 17855 Spain, measured just in time
before 1459*. VOA in Kinyarwanda/Kirundi scheduled Sat & Sun only
1400-1500, to be followed immediately by English daily via Botswana
but no sign of that, which per Aoki would be *jammed by the ChiCom
where too many subjects understand English. Something`s unsettled at
USAGM. I also have a JBA not off-frequency signal on 17580 continuing
past 1500 where Pinheira in Kin is also scheduled until 1500 only
Confirmed Saturday May 21 at 1930 on WRMI 15770, S8/S9 into UTwente,
BUT, BUT: cut to music fill after my first six words in the opening! I
asked Jeff White what happened but no reply yet.
1930 Sat is nominal same start time for WOR on WA0RCR, 1860 AM,
Wentzville MO, so I tune that in via nearby Warrenton remote, at 1933
finding it almost over, and finishing at 1937:50 so must have started
way early about 1909! S9+8 but heavy storm crashes.
Confirmed UT Sunday May 22 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S6/S7 into Durango
SDR but JBA vs storm crashes; better S7/S9 into Missouri; JBA direct
with HSNL.
Confirmed UT Sunday May 22 at 0345 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, at midpoint
so started circa 0331, S9+5/10 vs HSNL.
Confirmed UT Sunday May 22 ending at 1358 on WMRI Europe via Channel
292, Germany, 9670, and immediately into Russian with no ID, S6/S7
into NW Ireland SDR but good with low noise level; had been JBA into
too-close UTwente. Must have started at 1329. Next:
** U S A. 21525, May 21 at 2214, S5/S7 of dead air, as WRMI-7 Radio
Africa has not been turned off at 2100* as scheduled; with sporadic E
boost (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 9455, May 22 at 0703, no signal from WRMI-5, supposed to run
UNIDENTIFIED. 12000, May 22 at 0712, 2-way in Spanish. These seem to
