Hauser
** BOLIVIA. 5952.469+, Oct 2 at 0100, has to be Radio Pio Doce on its
signature split, S9/S8 carrier but can`t make out any modulation.
First noted as big het upon 5950 WRMI, both via UTwente. Meshes with
this on the WOR iog a few hours before: ``Lucio Otavio Bobrowiec - Hi
all, On 5952 since 2158, that het which must be R. Pio XII but nothing
audible until 2248, 01/10. Was some weeks silent. 73 Lucio
Brazil`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 15600, Oct 1 at 2219, music and talk eventually recognized
as Spanish: CRI to S America direct from Beijing site, 500 kW at 318
degrees, i.e. heading NW across Siberia, Europe, Atlantic, a long way,
but both short and long paths are extensive. SE over the Pacific would
avoid auroral zone absorption. Antipodes of Beijing is near Bahía
Blanca, Argentina. Rapid RTTY on the plus side, evitable by LSB tuning
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. Too much! Oct 2 at 0131+ I find four pirates at once
on The band: 6923 USB, 6930 USB, 6955 USB and 6960 USB. I stay on the
first one for a while:

6923 USB, Oct 2 at 0131, pirate song S4/5/7 on peaks, also 0136. 0150
``Addams Family``, seems to be Hallowe`en theme. Gives us a break,
until the end of Oct? 0156 ``They`re Coming to Take Me Away``. These
suggest it`s Sycko Radio without any explicit ID copied:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,102600.0.html

6930 USB, Oct 2 at 0132, pirate music at S4/S6. Per these, WWWW:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,102599.0.html

6955 USB, Oct 2 at 0133, rock music, -something- Radio ID, S3/S6. Too
many of these are too `produced` rather than pronounced clearly with
no background/mixing, etc. Three pages say Radio Free Whatever:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,102588.0.html

6960 USB, Oct 2 at 0135, rock, S4/S6. These say Lucky 13 Radio:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,102597.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 255 MCW kHz, Oct 1 at 2035 UT, SW, ND beacon at
StillWater. Last time heard was June 8 in daily chex, day and/or
night. Has had protracted absences before. No telling whether back to
stay now for a while. Classaxe says 50 watts, dxinfocentre says 25.
It`s JBA, much weaker than used to be, so maybe even less now (Glenn
Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 27184.5 AM, Oct 1 at 2038, Enid CB pirate again relaying
95.7 KXLS, very strong but now with big het from a spoiler carrier
equally strong on 27185.8. Pick one or the other by LSB/USB tuning.
Note: a number of other random times checked, this has not been on
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 15520, Oct 1 at 2048, after 6 days of dead air, REE finally
manages to modulate, just in time for a stupid ballgame; // stronger
17855 direct, Something`s no longer nonsensical at Noblejas (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SWITZERLAND. 18142 USB, Oct 1 at 2045, HB9TWY contact with a VA3.
At first I thought he said HP9TWY as in Panamá, accent not Spanish,
but we know a lot of expats are radicated there; then mentions local
time at UT+2. QRZ.com with a few landscape, antenna photos:

HB9TWY Switzerland flag Switzerland
``Yannick (YAN) Matthey
levant 9
LA SARRAZ 1315
Switzerland
QSL: No qsl`` -- imagine that! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830.003, Oct 1 at 2216, VOT English, S9+15 direct but very
undermodulated. 2235 S9+5/15 also into UTwente, undermodulated. Stays
on with 2300 timesignal and opening German, and still on at end of
German 2351 with song, now S9+55, when max volume on SDR plus locally
are not too much to overload. Chopped off air at 2352.8* depriving us
of another extra hour in Brazilian, shux. Something`s always erroneous
at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15730, Sat Oct 1 at 2049, VOA Grimesland in Hausa, S9+20;
also on 15185 with English lesson, S9+35. I wondered whether remnants
of Ian would blow any VOA or OCB off, but did not get them checked
during max winds there. Obviously OK now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2158 monitoring: confirmed Saturday
October 1 at 1929, right on time, at WA0RCR, 1860 AM, Wentzville MO,
S9+15 into nearby Warrenton KiwiSDR.

Also confirmed UT Sunday October 2 at 0322 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM again,
S9+18 same but noisy, about 11 minutes into so started circa 0311.

Note that the next chance when WRMI hopes to be back on air would not
be until UT Tuesday 0030 on 9395. Otherwise, scheduled, next:

2000 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy
0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW

** U S A. The latest from Jeff White: Sent: Saturday, October 1, 2022,
10:25:14 PM GMT+1

Friends, Colleagues and Clients: Our frequency of 5950 kHz has just
come back on the air at 2100 UT Saturday. We will keep this frequency
on the air 24 hours per day until we get more transmitters on the air.
It has been a slow process of repairing the transmission lines in the
muddy swampland. We do not expect to have any other frequencies on the
air until Monday. Probably the first ones to go back on the air Monday
will be 9395 and 9455 kHz if all goes well. Then we will gradually
bring all of the others back as the transmission lines are repaired.
Our Internet stream has continued to operate during and after the
storm, mostly with 9955 kHz programming. Thanks for your patience and
understanding, and we will keep you updated.

** U S A. 5950, Oct 2 at 0100, Texas R Shortwave on the only WRMI
frequency restarted yet. I`m trying it on the UTwente SDR where it`s
amazingly strong, S9/+10, for an azimuth of 355, about 50 degrees away
from head-on to Europe. Wonder if askew or really on same antenna as
before the storm. Also with het from 5952+ which has to be BOLIVIA,
q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7489.93, Oct 2 at 0033, WBCQ with rock music show, `Cruisin`
the Decades`, S9/+10 into Georgia SDR. NOT on the website program
schedule, rather `AAAWWW`, which I was going to check shortly for the
part I missed last night as Allan was calling out to me. Par for the
course with never-up-to-date sked. If it can be believed, next chance
for `AAAWWW` should be Monday after 2200. This `Cruisin`` is nowhere
on the quadrifrequency sked (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

WORLD OF RADIO HITLIST updated Oct 1:

Hi Glenn. My latest Hitlist update.
https://www.w4uvh.net/hitlist.htm

1) Korea, South - KBS: Added link to the Listen Again web page.
2) New Zealand - RNZ: Updated UTC offset notations for start of DST
The next update is scheduled for late October. Best wishes and 73,
Alan Roe

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Oct 1 at 1435, no signal yet from
LRA36 for Saturday repeat of Wednesday; favorite Argentine SDR is
offline so I have to try others in Argentina, Uruguay, later Brasil.
*1449.8 cuts on with songs, S6 into Uruguay, S3 into Argentina. By
1504 the Esperanza themesong is playing. 1507.5 intro talk; 1508
intermittent music QRM off-frequency, never on for long enough to
nail it on 15470, 15475 or 15480, probably local SDR mixture or
overload with ham emissions. 1509.5 song; 1514 chat; 1522 song; 1530
YLs chatting with OM guest, keeps on going. Really too weak to follow.
After 1605 I`m mainly listening to `The Score` on KUCO, but weak S3/S4
JBA LRA36 still detectable, 1611, 1619, 1631, 1638; surprise fades up
about 1645 to S6/S7 into Montevideo; still on past 1700, unusual: 1704
song now peaking at S9+5, last detected at 1711. Just as well, as
various SDRs have been timing out (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 382 MCW kHz, Oct 1 at 0352 UT, dash and YPL, 1000 watt NDB
at Pickle Lake ON. Nice to hear again as I still have a neighborhood
noise peak roughly 360-420 kHz. Last logged Sept 5, 2021.

351 MCW kHz, Oct 1 at 0353 UT, dash and YKQ, 500 watt NDB at
Waskaganish/Fort Rupert QC. I was tuned to 352 USB, somewhat avoiding
350 RG OKC. Last logged January 28 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA [and non]. [WOR] Cross-cultural opera from China --- Now
underway in the traditional Saturday afternoon opera time, in Met
off-season. As heard here via KUCO FM, WFMT network is presenting a
Beijing produxion of Lehár`s The Merry Widow -- beautiful tunes even
if you think you don`t like opera. The arias, or some of them, are in
German, not Hungarian or English; while spoken passages are in
Mandarin, like at 1805 UT in the 2nd act. It would be too difficult to
translate to Chinese and still fit the metre. All but one cast members
have Chinese names. This just switched to German. It seems the NCPA -
National Center for Performing Arts, is dedicated to introducing
Western culture to China. Good for them! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. Re ``"Immaculate Concussion: The Truth Behind
Havana Syndrome", repeat time on CNN changed from 0100 UT Oct 1 to
0300, per TitanTV listings: O yeah? Don`t blame TTV. CNN Breaking
News, guess what, bumped it. Another lesson that if you want to see
something on CNN, better catch its original airing, as no telling what
will happen to the scheduled repeats (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Oct 1 at 0642 UT, JBA carrier from R.
Kiribati, stronger than usual so can almost imagine some modulation
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7255-, Oct 1 at 0630, VON is off, but I discover VANUATU
is back on 7260, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. Tnx to Randy Stewart, re my latest REE log for Sept 30:

``Justin Coe REE interview with bass-baritone --- It's Thomas
QUASTHOFF. Born 1959 in Germany; a thalidomide baby, he had severe
birth defects with malformed arms and legs. Stands 4 ft 5 in tall.
Mostly known for lieder and oratorio work but has sung major roles in
a few staged opera productions, e.g. Amfortas in "Parsifal" at Vienna
State Opera. Before singing career took off mid-1980s he was an
announcer at NDR Hamburg. In recent years he's gotten into jazz
singing. Speaking of announcing, I'm finally going back to KSMU
part-time starting next Wednesday. 73, Randy`` Stewart, Springfield MO

** U S A. The latest from Jeff White, WRMI on FB as of 1740 UT Oct 1:
``Hurricane damage repair is going full speed here in Okeechobee
today. Engineers Pat Travers and Don Frish are in the field repairing
the transmission lines, and we hope to have the first transmitter back
on the air by the end of today if all goes well. The first frequencies
to come back will probably be 5950, 9395 and 9455 kHz. In the photo
here you can see the extensive damage to one of the antenna towers
that snapped in the middle and buried itself into the ground.`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7260, Oct 1 at 0630, VON check finding it missing from
7255, but now a signal here where there has not been any at this hour.
I bet it`s R Vanuatu finally reactivated. Talk does have that Bislama
cadence, S3/S4 past 0637 and no signal on 14520 = x2. At 0648 ``island
music``. I really don`t want to stay awake any longer but manage to do
so until this cuts off at 0700, and by 0705 I find signals back on
3945 harmonix: 7890 = x2, JBA carrier, and 11835 = x3 with music at
S7. So it`s back to ``normal`` since it disappeared on Sept 16 -
except the QSY time is one hour later instead of 0600.

I figured Ron Howard would also catch this: ``Oct 1 observations:
Radio Vanuatu (news & sports 0658-0714 UT) returned to their normal
frequencies: 0620-0659* UT on 7260 and *0659 on harmonics 11835 //
7890, with 3945 being unusable.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Oct 1 from 0339
UT, when the continent is still in darkness: 531, 549, 585, 612,
639-2, 657, 684, 693, 747, 774-2, 855-2, 882, 891, 909, 999, 1044,
1098, 1107-3, 1125, 1296, 1305. Usual technique, USB upstepping by 9
kHz tuned to frequencies 1 kHz below, to detect any 1 kHz hets. This
time I reverse the process on LSB 1 kHz above, in case some be
obscured by NAm even channels, but only get one more which is usually
easier: 621. -2 means at least 2 carriers beating; -3 at least three.
Many of these can be correlated with likely Algeria, Spain, UK, etc.
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5910 USB, Oct 1 at 0626, JBA one side of 2-way contacts,
not Spanish (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7680, Oct 1 at 0632, JBA carrier like last night, but
can`t make out any modulation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 258 MCW kHz, Sept 30 at 0719 UT, dash and ZSJ, 1000 watt ND
beacon at Sandy Lake, Ontario. The only one on this frequency.

335 MCW kHz, Sept 30 at 0723 UT, dash and YLD, 1000 watt ND beacon at
Chapleau, Ontario. DXinfocentre.com says YLD is to be decommissioned
2023-04-20. Not much storming now in the great center of the
continent, so the lower-noise `season` is getting underway (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA [and non]. 6030, Sept 30 at 0626, Cuban pulse jamming
against no Martí, but a weak carrier and talk under, soon some
laughter, so CFVP, ``Funny 1060``, Calgary. My yesterday`s log of CFVP
in clear at 0644 drew this reply from Bryan Clark, NZ:

``I was listening in New Zealand on 6029.988 the same date from 0558
UT. While the signal was weak, the unique comedy format of the station
was heard in the clear UNTIL the Cuban buzz-saw jamming resumed on the
channel at 0652. The attached audio file gives you a feel for the CFVP
signal strength and quality in the South Pacific. The Cuban jammer
starts at 13 seconds into the recording. Bryan -- Mangawhai -
Northland - New Zealand`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** COLOMBIA. 6017.019, Sept 30 at 0146, VP S5/S6 with talk, no doubt
Organización Radial El Prado, Palermo, Magdalena, on signature split
frequency, presumably unlicensed; gone by 0620 recheck (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11850, Sept 30 at 0141, a few RHC frequencies are back on
after widespread Ian-caused power outages. Back to ``normal``, this
one is S9+10/20 of just-barely-modulated Spanish; also 9650, S9+10
merely undermodulated. And 6000 at 0145, S9+20/30 in English with
sufficient modulation. Not found on any other frequency normally on
air at this time. Per EiBi, 6000 & 11850 are Quivicán site, 9650
Bejucal; so major Bauta plant still dark (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5025, 5040, 6000, 6060, 6100, 6165, Sept 30 at 0627, all
these transmitters are off, but:

9805 & 9565, Sept 30 at 0631, pulse jammings against nothings are
drawing powers from somewheres (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. Survey of RHC frequencies, Sept 30 at 2340, finds only: 6000
S7/S9 JBM Spanish? 9650 S9/+10 better in Spanish; there are no others
on those bands, nor on the 5s, 11s, 13s or 15s. But 13650 CRI music
relay is on, S9+20 JBM and at 2344 the NHK IS audible under in this
protracted collision. 9535 with something in Chinese, not Cuba.

Another check at 0023: 12000 S9 JBM English = 2 x 6000. At 0026, 11850
is now on at S9+10/20 but as always JBM Spanish. Somethings` always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. This CNN special originally on UT Sept 26, per
Titan TV listings has changed final repeat time to 03 UT Oct 1 instead
of 01:

``"Immaculate Concussion: The Truth Behind Havana Syndrome"
New, 9/25/2022, News, Topical, Current Events
Dr. Sanjay Gupta investigates the so-called 'Havana Syndrome', a
confounding medical mystery beginning with embassy staff in Cuba
before spiraling into one of the most hotly debated and poorly
understood brain conditions of the age.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9439.995, Sept 30 at 2157, NO signal from R. Cairo in
English, into UTwente; nor Turkey. Guess I`ll have to listen to SPAIN,
q.v.

I quoted these WOR iog comments Sept 29 from Alan Holder on WOR 2158:

It is just over a year now since Radio Cairo fired up two of its
transmitters. The other seven units are obviously defunct; probably
the tubes are worn out and they cannot get replacements. Or maybe they
have used them as a source of spare parts to keep the remaining two on
air.

I monitor them most days to look for any improvement, but sadly the
situation has not changed. A huge amount of electrical energy is going
to waste. This audio quality would not be tolerated by the domestic AM
audience in Egypt, so why must overseas listeners have to put up with
this miserable service?

They cannot be relied upon to broadcast regularly - on some days all
language services are on air, on other days only part of the schedule
is broadcast or sometimes everything is off the air. Start up times
also vary from day to day. It seems to me that the transmitter station
is not continuously staffed. The AM tx lies some 700 metres to the
north - perhaps the tx operators have to cover both sites on their
shifts.

There was a 7 week period when the transmitter which operates on the
9810-9900 range was completely off air. I sent an e-mail to ERU and
this transmitter was back on air the next day. Also, a recent reply
from their engineering department reads:

`We would like to thank you for your email. But we also like to tell
you that we are still having a lot of problem in our Broadcasting
System in Egypt as the System has become too much old and There are a
lot of Defections in our Stations & Devices. Also we are looking
forward to having a new DRM System in the future.`

It will be a miracle if this ever comes about. I suspect that it is
difficult to get any funding for technical improvements.
Alan Holder, G4ZBH, Isle of Wight, U.K.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** FRANCE [and non]. 9735-9740-9745, Sept 30 at 0628, DRM noise atop
AM carrier with some talk and DRM goes off at 0630:15*, not 0700 as
for MiniTransAt marine weather supposedly on its final registered
date. Uncovered understation, too weak to discern language, but RRI
Arabic scheduled, and would have expected the recognizable Romania IS
to play before 0630 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7254.933, Sept 30 at 0636, VON is off. Something`s always
abnormal at Abuja (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. The following tiny-print legal notice in the local paper
must concern KVBN-LP, 99.9, Enid`s only currently active LPFM station.
Warning: your eyes may glaze over reading this:

piggy-backing on the KLGB-LP 94.3 tower which went off the air early
this year and surrendered its license. I have to go take a look on the
ground, the afternoon of Sept 30.

The backstory to this notice is lacking, but perhaps they have to find
a new transmitter site? Yes, visiting the church building former home
of KLGB, in the 1500 block of N Van Buren on the east side, it`s now
for sale along with the decaying KLGB sign; and we see that the
self-supporting lattice tower has been dismantled, lying on the ground
next to the building. So KVBN, on the air right now, is already
transmitting from somewhere else.

We then proceed 12 blox north to 2700 NVB, where, well displaced to
the west side, there are two adjacent RV/mobile home parx, heavily
populated and treed, so that only from one spot can we get a glimpse
of a short pole with one vertically polarized FM transmitting element
on it. Must be KVBN.

It`s still not clear why there be any zoning problem about this. It
could easily pass for a home receiving antenna, many of which in this
fringe area are higher and more elaborate. Wonder why they didn`t just
put it on HQ church property at 402 N 20th St, a few miles to the
east?

FCC FM Query has nothing but a CP for KVBN-LP at the new location, 73
watts ERP, H&V, 24 m AGL. Interspersed with gospel huxtering and
music, KVBN at least includes local weather info. If it were off for a
few days to relocate, I would not have noticed (Glenn Hauser, Enid,
WOR)

** SPAIN. 15520, Sept 30 at 2200, for at least the sixth day in a row,
nothing but open carrier dead air on REE`s frequency for the Mideast;
S7/S9 at first, but 2230 S9+10 into Maryland SDR.

17855 to N America has served well in the summer, but in fall is
beginning to falter well into the Euronight by 2200 English on M/W/F,
fadey S9/S7. Maryland SDR is axually getting a solider signal on the S
American frequency 11940, where I stay, S9+10; off-azimuth trumps
falling MUF. Hélena Rigobert does the preview: an interview by Justin
Coe with a German bass-baritone, but she pronounces bass as if he were
a fish!

After news, that starts at 2206. JC says it`s from his personal
archive of June 2018, never broadcast. Guest is Thomas --- Bastop it
sounded like at first, later Kwastov??? Discussing his performances
including once in Spain he stopped his Schubert recital when someone
coughed loudly; and how audiences should understand the need for
respectful silence. We hardly hear any of his singing until filling a
fraxion of the final minute at 2229 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, Sept 30 at 2157 and later chex to 2230, NO signal

As of early UT September 30, WRMI is totally off the air pending
inspexion of the antennas and feedlines for hurricane damage.
Power is back on and WOR 2158 has been uploaded to System

them can resume in the following week. Even if SW off, with studio
power the 9955 webcasts may appear. Otherwise, our listeners via
WRMI are well-advised to seek another station or listen on the web.

WRMI confirmed NOT on any air at 0130 & 0330 UT Friday September 30.

WOR 2158 confirmed on WRMI 9955 webcast only, Friday September 30 at
1430, while 9955 itself is still off the air, as well as 9395, 9455,
15770.

Also confirmed Friday September 30 at 1815.3 on IRRS SW via Bulgaria
7290, and via AM Italia, 1323 kHz. 7290 into UTwente at S7/S8. 1323
into nearby Noale SDR is S9+10/20 but including heavy QRM in German
from Romania`s minority service, and a fast SAH making rough copy. I
don`t monitor the whole thing but trust WOR played to completion 1844
on both. This airing has been restored after missing the past two
weeks due to a programming mixup.

Earlier monitoring of these: 1323 tuned in at 1758 where some talk is
underneath classical music from Romania; 1800 German sign on with
frequencies including this one. IRRS ought to be on alternate 918
which is clear of QRM. Moving to 1323 was supposed to improve coverage
into Ukraine, but I doubt it, with Romania in the way. Still nothing
on the experimental LW 207 kHz. By 1801, 7290 has come on late during
`Feature Story News``, 1803 `Spotlite` about Iran demos. 1805 NEXUS
plug, music fill. 1812 promo for TUC Radio, but no idea when, if there
be any specific time; more music until 1815 IRRS SW ID and WOR.

Also confirmed Friday September 30 at 2030 on AM Italia 1323 only,
S9+10/20, still some QRM but atop it after Romania presumably off
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 3265+, Sept 30 at 2358, this WBCQ is on but JBA with IS & ID
loop, probably // 5130- where that is much better. Both coming on
early to make this week`s `AAAAAA` a quadricast, while 6160- and 7490-
are wrapping up some other programming. I start listening direct on
best 7490- instead of webcast. It`s a new one, Allan in Monticello,
Angela on phone from home in Deland of Fla. Discussion of Hurricane
Ian, of course, with some political digs, like all 538 congresspersons
are worthless. Allan has been stuck in Maine for two weeks on a
maintenance mission, while Angela holds down the fort and battens down
the hatches in Fla. 0020 muses which is worse, Hurricane Ian or
Hurricane Brandon, which he thinx is destroying this country.

At 0032 I measure each frequency on the Maryland SDR: 3265.123 S8/S9;
5129.984 S9; 6159.937 S9; 7489.930 S9+20. 0034 datestamp as 30 Sept
YOOLF 2022. Thinx COVID was really man-made in China and the truth of
who did it will eventually come out. 0041 quadricasting. 0042 don`t
vote for those evil Democrats.

Tuned away for a while; when I come back at 0049, he`s talking to
*me*, but I missed the first part. He loves me, but apparently peeved
that I may guess what`s happening, instead of phoning him to find out.
About the 9330 outages: the Ampegon antenna was only 95% complete when
that company went bankrupt, and due to COVID they have not been able
to get anyone over who knows how to fix it, so WBCQ crew continues to
work on it in the daytime, which is why 9330 is often off the air
Mon-Sat from around 8/9 am to 4/6 pm EDT. As for transmitter,
Continental makes great ones, but this 500 kW one is a nightmare
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WRMI survey Sept 30 at 2339: All frequencies still OFF:
5010, 5800, 5850, 5950, 7570, 7730, 7780, 9395, 9455; and 9955 but
with wall-of-noise jamming against nothing. Latest from Jeff White:

``Hurricane Damage at WRMI [as of 1756 UT Sept 30]:

The weather is fine here in Okeechobee now, but the hurricane damage
is becoming more clear. I went out into the antenna field yesterday
evening with our facility manager Pat Travers, and our
four-wheel-drive truck got stuck in the muck in the swamp about a
half-mile from our building. We were rescued by another truck. Anyway,
the point is that it's very difficult to work in many parts of the
antenna field now because of the wetness.

A crew also went out into the field this morning to check out antennas
and transmission lines. So we know what we have to do to replace
broken poles and get transmission lines off the ground so we can get
back on the air. We are sourcing transmission line poles (like
telephone poles) right now, and we hope work will begin later today or
tomorrow morning on the replacements.

Most of our antennas themselves seem to be in good shape. A few have
serious problems and will require repairs or replacement. (We have 23
antennas beamed to 11 azimuths, and only 14 transmitters, so some
transmitters can be connected to different antennas if necessary.)

The bottom line at the moment is, we don't expect to have anything
back on the air tonight (Friday). But if all goes well, we may have
some transmitters back on the air by tomorrow (Saturday). We'll
continue working and will keep bringing transmitters back up as the
repair work is done on their transmission lines and antennas. This
process could take several days. And hopefully it won't rain and make
the field more difficult to work in.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, and we hope to have things
back to normal as quickly as possible. I'll keep you informed on our
progress.

** CANADA. 6030, Sept 29 at 0644, comedy in English at S6/S8 tnx to NO
Cuban jamming, CFVP Calgary. Tnx also to Ian, as Cubans would leave
jamming on all night even when Martí is off after 0400 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 9565, Sept 29 at 0114, pulse jamming continues against
nothing after OCB is over, despite ``total blackout`` of power in
Cuba. Don`t you believe it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. From 60 to 22m band, Sept 29 at 0122, all known SW
frequencies of RHC, Progreso and Rebelde are OFF due to blackout, but
which however has not silenced all the jammers, nor all the MW
stations per DXer reports. All SW RHC and RR still silent at 0630
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [non]. 9490.058V, Sept 29 at 0115, R. República with VG
unjammed signal via RMI via defective ISS FRANCE transmitter never
on-frequency, and wavering slightly, difficultizing measurement; with
seemingly current Hurricane Ian news. 0117 ID and announcing schedule
in Yanqui-imposed EDT: 9-10 pm Mon-Wed; 9-11 pm Thu-Sat; 9-12 mn Sun.
And ALSO on 5800 which is/was really WRMI, I was unaware of: M/W/F 11
pm-mn. Current WRMI skedgrid shows System B in bluegreen, otherwise
mostly into 9955, as Radio República on 5800 at 11 pm-mn but on
Wed/Thu/Fri. Beware! That could draw jamming to a previously free
frequency not only during those three hours but anywhen affecting
other programs! As yet unconfirmed, as WRMI itself is totally off the
air. DOW variations too confusing for the jammers, often left running
after RR is off.

Now the same sked info converted to real UT days and times: 9490:
01-02 UT Tue-Thu; 01-03 UT Fri-Sun; 01-04 UT Mon. 5800: 03-04 UT
Thu-Sat, or Tue/Thu/Sat? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** FRANCE. 9735-9740-9745, Sept 29 at 0625, DRM noise at S9+10 not
noticed before. EiBi shows MiniTransAt Sailing at 06-07 from Issoudun
for N Atlantic, but not marked as DRM. It is N = DRM in HFCC for dates
19 July to 30 Sept only, so about to expire, 100 kW at 320 degrees
thisaway for all these CIRAF zones: 04,05,09,17,18,27,36,80. This
would be bad news for Tsiganeshti, RRI in Arabic if it really run past
0630, unrechecked, which I at first thought might be the DRM, on
early. Some of these TransAt DRMs were really only half an hour. By
now I`m listening direct, off computer so can`t try to decode the DRM
marine weather info remotely (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Thu Sept 29 at 0656, JBA carrier from R.
Kiribati, back on after another silent Wed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7255-, Sept 29 at 0633, S7/S9 of dead air direct from VON.
7254.933, Sept 29 at 1730, S7/9+10 of dead air into Canary SDR.
Something always absolutely abject at Abuja (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PERU. 5025, Sept 29 at 0058, JBA signal, S5 = noise level,
presumably R. Quillabamba, tnx to absence of Rebelde, which even
before Ian was sporadic. From 0100 marred by uteblaaps at the regular
rate of 24 times per minute (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** RUSSIA. 9996, Sept 29 at 0627, binary clicking JBA, just far enough
from WWV to avoid QRM. No doubt RWM timesignals from Taldom/Moskva
which at certain other times does ID in CW (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 15520, Sept 29 at 1500, for at least the fifth day in a row,
nothing but dead air from REE to the Mideast! S6/S9 direct. Isn`t
there a meter on the transmitter showing modulation, or not?? Even if
not listening to it. Could the ops at Noblejas be both aurally and
visually impaired; or just mentally (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 6993, Sept 29 at 0637, still JBA carrier, presumed WH2XWF
propagation research, not all or any? of their low-power Florida sites
blown off air yet (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2157 monitoring: NOT confirmed UT Thursday
Sept 29 at 0030 on WRMI 5010 which is off the air. Earlier in the day,
Jeff had hoped to keep that one going. NOT confirmed either, UT Thu at
0130 on WRMI 9395, which has been off the air for some time. Shortly
WRMI would be totally silent, so WOR may be hard to hear for an
unknown period. The UT Friday 0130 first airings on 5850 & 7730 had
already been canceled last week, and no response to our request to
restore them; UT Fri at 0330 on 7780 would be next, but unlikely to be
funxional again already.

No longer facing at 0130 Friday deadline, WOR 2158 may not be ready
until somewhat later. I anyway post the nominal sked including WRMI in
case some of them can resume in the following week. Even if SW off,
with studio power the 9955 webcasts may appear, assuming there is
studio power to accept our uploads. Confirmed connexion tested at 1903

9955 with gospel huxter, 7730 with Slovakia in English, 5950 with UFO
show, which appears to be a live feed per his comments. By 0120, 9955
is off. Shortly WRMI would go off completely, power outage besides as
yet unknown antenna damage. All are off at 0630. We must check
wrmiradio on FB for the latest, or this direct from Jeff:

``Dear Colleagues and Clients: Last night Hurricane Ian passed through
central Florida. Winds were extremely high, and they caused extensive
damage in our antenna field. The winds are still very strong as I
write this (1330 UTC Thursday), and we have not been able to assess
the extent of the damage yet. Electrical power went out at 0200 UTC
Thursday and is still out. The power company, Florida Power and Light,
cannot begin to work on power restoration until the winds go down to
about 35 miles per hour, and that may not be until later today or
tomorrow. So we are off the air, except for our Internet stream, until
further notice. Thanks for all of your messages and phone calls. We'll
keep you updated. Jeff`` - I wonder if flooding also be a threat
around WRMI as elsewhere like inland Orlando; how far above Lake level
is it, and how close to the shore?

Sept 29 at 1440 check, all OFF: 9395, 9455, 9955, 15770 (Glenn Hauser,

music joined by hymnsinger. Must be some HF Es boost. Not even a
reduced carrier, so hard to pinpoint reference frequency, but Rodney
Johnson, MN, put it at 15554.88, Sept 18 at 1405, power as only 1 kW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
