Glenn Hauser logs October 22-23, 2024  View Printable Version
Tuesday, October 24 2023

Logs
** CUBA. 12000, Oct 23 at 0630, lite pulse jamming mixed with carrier
at S4/S5, suspected RHC on 2 x 6000. Then checking 6000, yes, still on
in English, suptorted S9+40. Back to 12000, now I can detect same JBM
English. 6000 off by next check 0720. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** FRANCE. 13735 & 15300, Oct 23 at 1500, no signals yet from TDF
Issoudun. Should resume bilingual weather and ranking info by Sat Oct
28 for the second stage of La Boulangère sailboat race; yet website
bills this as ``without means of communication`` -- isn`t that
dangerous in case of emergency? Does that mean sailors are forbidden
to have transmitters?! ``Une aventure hors norme, au large et sans
moyens de communication.``

https://minitransat.fr/
``Départ de la 2e étape le 28 octobre à 13h (Heure locale)`` So is
that UT, UT+1 or UT+2? Canary is UT+1 until October 29, then UT.
Departure from Santa Cruz de la Palma; Arrivée inconnue à St-François
Riviera du Levant, Guadeloupe (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Oct 23 at 0446, still trying to get R.
Kiribati via Oahu SDR: nothing visible on waterfall, but SynchAM tries
to lock onto signal plus/minus ~2 Hz. 24h earlier this was displaying
a line at 846 but appeared to be boundary of something rather than a
genuine signal (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 27184.45 AM, Oct 22 at 2222, steady S9+20 of gospel rock,
still at 2234, // Air One on 91.1 FM, i.e. KKRD Enid. Local CBer
pirate relay tying up a busy channel at least locally, atop hets from
skippers on off-frequencies. Has relayed various other local FMs
before. Not there 24h later facilitating skippileup (Glenn Hauser,
Enid, WOR)

** ROMANIA [and non]. 11800, Oct 23 at 2207 direct, RRI English is a
JBA understation beneath NHK in Japanese. For B23 from Oct 29 if not
28, everything one UT hour later and on different frequencies:
including 2300 for WEu and us beyond 7220, to Japan 9620. Full English
sked: https://www.rri.ro/en_gb/frecvente-259
Explicitly for NAm: 2130-2200 9500, 0100-0200 7325, 0400-0500 9510
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Monday October 23 at 2200, token English from SNR
starts by giving B23 schedule in generalities of mostly Spanish,
including 9690, which no doubt will include at 2300 instead, English
to us, Amy and also the voice of Justin Coe which has not been heard
otherwise for several weeks; VG S9+15/20 direct. After news, 2210
feature is interview with a director of `Ñ`, the notable 15th
anniversary of a literary festival on Oct 14-15, weekend following
Spain`s national day (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TASMANIA [non]. 9955, Sunday Oct 22 at 2232, ``Waltzing Matilda``,
2234 Hobart Radio International, with ``news`` via WRMI as sked (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, Oct 22 at 2224 check, VOT English not off the air,
S9+20 direct but plenty of ACI.

11785, Oct 23 at 2200 and later chex, direct nor via UTwente, VOT
English not on the air. Nor on 9875, the 2030-2130 English channel
sometimes staying past 2200 unmoved. UTwente sporadically lox onto an
inaudible at 9875.003, else? Something`s always erroneous at Emirler.

From B23, Oct 29, new sked will be 2300 on 5960; so if that be
missing, check 9610 for the 2030-2130 channel possibly extended by
dozers (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 28300 CW, Oct 22 at 2236, beacon K6FRC, regular
strong signal, readable OK tuned to 28299-USB, but on 28300 itself is
a Brazuguese phone on USB; not respecting the ``beacon band``, which I
suppose has no official/legal status (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2213 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
October 22 at 2000 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz only, still not
908 or 207; S9+17 into nearby Noale SDR, Qur`anRM barely audible under
from Iran, but unlike yesterday, no Hungarian heard from Romania. Also
confirmed at same time on WRN Europe webcast, and on WRMI
webcast-only.

Also confirmed UT Monday October 23 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, poor but
sufficient into Durango2 SDR Mexico. But first 14 seconds totally
blocked by utenoiseblast.

Also confirmed UT Monday October 23 at 0300 promptly on Area 51
webcast; WBCQ frequency not measured until 0344, 6160 -68v Hz =
6159.932 into NH SDR during HRI? Next:

0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW
1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?]
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW

1030 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB [previous #2212]

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW

** VANUATU. 9960, Oct 23 at 0634, R. Vanuatu still here, S4/S5 with
drumming which often follows and precedes 0630 PSAs (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7830, Oct 23 at 0646, S9 extremely distorted music bits
cutting on and off rapidly, as if spurious from a broadcast. Same as
48 hours ago. Wonder if it could be WRNO way out of whack, missing
from 7505 lately (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

A travel for our older transmission slot: R Trump was heard via Mountaintop kSDR on 0815 with -90dbm and 20minutes later via the Boca Raton with better S/N ratio at same signal level .There as a random time ID as R Trump (around 0820? )

Via same kSDr 4940 the unknown pirate relaying religious programs with goodsignal

6180 with R N Amazonia with `sombrero' songs with -60dbm signal. There was anID , 1055 with someone signing and playing guitar an inspirational songwith  spituall talks  in between and then singing the `Brazuguese'version of happy birthday for a Maria. Reception via Bernando de Campo kSDR(will noted as BDC below ) Off 1213

WMR on 6160 on 1105 with talks and old rock songs via Twente -63dbm Good audiobut strong QSB

Europa24 (per eibi) or radio24 (as IDed) on 6150 with old French song 1115 thenwell-known songs from the past Prop seem also not so good due to high fades.Signal -70 dbm with 30db range.

Glenn Hauser logs October 22, 2023  View Printable Version
Sunday, October 22 2023

Logs
** CUBA. 13650, Oct 22 at 0022, S8/S9 open carrier direct, in fact the
SSOB; must be the ``Portuguese`` music-only CRI relay, not turned off
by 0000. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. Monitoring the Saturday-evening surfeit on the
pirate-band, UT Sunday October 22: 6965-USB, Oct 22 at 0023, music at
S9+25, just in time for an ID, ``Wolverine Radio``. At 0101, SSTV
beepery. 0109 next check, it`s off. Many more reports here, including
``stained glass`` SSTV image; was jammed near the end:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,119777.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA [non]. 6934.9 AM, Oct 22 at 0024, JBA carrier, maybe
trace of music, S7 = noise level. unID pirate. These conclude it`s
AD149 from ARGENTINA:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,119773.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6870 USB, Oct 22 at 0026, distorted music at S9+10;
0027 YL ID, ``You are listening to Radio 48 via ---?``. 0032 another
ID, I think ending with ``via Mix Radio International``. Many reports
here as Radio 48 only:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,119780.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6950 USB, Oct 22 at 0102, weak talk I first think
would be local KCRC Enid on 5 x 1390 as sometimes audible, but USB
talkover ``shut the -uc- up`` and some tones not SSTV. The victim is
also USB only and not // 1390 stupid sportstalk. It`s a political
speech with applause. At 0111, music. unID pirates, apparently same as
these, misdated Oct 21 instead of 22 amid others of 22.
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,119786.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA [non]. 6935.0 AM, Oct 22 at 0107, music at S6/S7; so
not same as earlier on 6934.9. Yet HFU treats it as the same leading
to AD149 ARGENTINA:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,119773.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6925 AM, Oct 22 at 0108, music at S7, unID pirate,
no matches for this one at HF Underground (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2213 monitoring: confirmed UT
Sunday October 22 at 0000 on WRMI 9955, S7/S9 into Maryland SDR, with
considerable Cuban noise jamming but totally readable if you put up
with it. Hardly audible at remotes in S America where this is aimed.
You`ll understand why I`m hostile to Cuba?

Also confirmed UT Sunday October 22 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+15 into
nearby SDR, already at 0300, about 20 minutes into so started way
early circa 0240, the nominal 0315v, so would have been finished by
0310; Vern has to insert his own ID every dekaminute, often
interrupting a word or thought of mine. He also has to cut my opening
billboard to minimize the amount of music relayed; but is it OK if
there be music on a clip? I don`t let that influence what I may
insert.

Also confirmed Sunday October 22 circa 1042 UT the 1030 on WRMI 9955,
good signal direct during 1-minute sample recorded while I slept.
Next:

2000 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy
0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW [irregular?]
0300vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW
0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW [irregular?]
0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW
1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?]
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB
1030 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB [previous #2212]
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW

** U S A. 3215, Sun Oct 22 at 0705 check, WWCR is off. Program sked
now shows this WWCR-1 is off every night, 05-11 UT, while 5890 WWCR-4
TOMBS is off only on M-F and indeed it is on now and producing the
usual leapfrog mixing product over 5935 WWCR-2 on 5980 (Glenn Hauser,

Glenn Hauser logs October 21, 2023  View Printable Version
Sunday, October 22 2023

Logs
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Sat Oct 21 at 1753 tune-in via
Argentine remote, LRA36 already on, S5 talk not just music; 1755
contact info; [lunchtime for me]; 1828 recreation of LRA36 when it was
on 6030, 1968-69? 1843 IDs; 1844 multi-lingual canned IDs including
English; 1856 quoting Horacio Nigro`s La Galena del Sur blog from
Uruguay, about LRA36. Too much else going on Saturday afternoons to
listen to this for five hours straight! But some further chex: At 1918
I change to Brasil SDR. But there it does not sound quite right at
.98; maybe best at 15476.15? But SDR must be miscalibrated as on WWV
15000.000, it says carrier -106 Hz! On some SDRs can`t find a carrier
to zero in on. Even with good modulation level, carrier at Brasília is
JBA and hard to pinpoint. About 2000 mentions expecting a special
program from Adrián Korol at 6 pm [=21z]. 2002, historic recording of
first? contact between Antártida and Malvinas. 2041, it`s up to S7/S9
at Bsla. 2126, ID with frequency, current temp +5, a heat wave. 2256
next check seems off. Is anyone hearing them any other days at 15-17?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, R. Kiribati: still not getting any trace of it
direct; so I am trying via Oahu SDR which last season got it as early
at 0430 UT, circa sunset there and on Xmas Island to the south: Oct 21
at 0435, nothing audible or visible on the H2Ofall, yet SAM synch lox
onto a carrier displaying +0.4 to +1.1 Hz averaging +0.8. Don`t see
how it could be anything else from Pacific or Asia, let alone Europe.
At next chex 0523 & 0555, there is a JBV fuzzy carrier, still nothing
audible, and variation slightly greater, plus/minus 2 Hz. Some or all
of that could be instability of receiver; or partly transmitter; or
unstable propagation. Will keep checking periodically. June 8 at 0658
was the last time I logged a JJBBA carrier direct (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 17, Oct 21 at 0518 UT, K17JN-D, the multi-channel 3ABN
satellator in Enid is still black and silent two weeks after first
noted October 7. One suspects the 7DA aren`t very serious about their
broadcasting (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009+, Oct 21 at 2200, VOT timesignal and opening
English, VG S9+15/30 signal and good modulation too into UTwente, news
dated Saturday, but probably originally broadcast at 1230. 2209,
multilingual ID filler reel. 2211, music. 2216 travelog to Izmit,
which is on an inlet just ESE of Istanbul, not to be confused with
Izmir; music. 2229 `Gripping Piles` about warm temps in Antarctica,
short pants wearable due to climate change, 18 March 2022, hot humid
air blew in from Australia. 2232 more nice music. 2237 recipe for
making jam from eggplants, on `Turkiye`s Geomarked [sic] Products`.
2240 music. 2246 always-by-your-side promo, music. 2249
with-you-every-hour promo, music. 2253 s/off with usual defects. 2254
about 6 notes of IS before chopoff* No finesse (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2213 monitoring: confirmed UT
Saturday October 21 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, S9+20/30 into Missouri SDR.

Also confirmed Saturday October 21 at 1600 on WRN North America
webcast.

Also confirmed Saturday October 21 at 1630 on WRMI 15770, only S7 JBA
into UTwente SDR, European target area.

Also confirmed Saturday October 21 at 1948 about 17 minutes into so
started circa 1931 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+16 into nearby SDR. Also
the 1930s on WRMI webcast-only and WRN North America stream. Next:
