Glenn Hauser logs December 2, 2022 |

** ANTARCTICA [and non]. ``Hi Glenn, Just a quick word about the compilation of logs for LRA36 on my DX Guides site. DX Guides is a personal site that I maintain as a hobby, it has nothing to do with the British DX Club. http://www.dxguides.info/
As to the content, it’s all my own work from start to finish, mistakes and all (which can be corrected once I am aware of them). However, some folks take an interest and are a great help with news and updates direct. Yes, the LRA36 reports will continue into 2023 and beyond, as will those for Radio Vanuatu, which are a little way behind at the moment. I will add others next year. Your logs and weekly reports are very useful indeed, as are the posts of many others to the WOR iog. Thanks. Best regards, Tony Rogers`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR) ** CANADA. 362 MCW kHz, Dec 2 at 0736, dash and SB, 500-watt ND beacon at Greater Sudbury, Ontario, JBA vs HNL (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11670, Dec 2 at 0723, S9+10/20 of dead air, SSOB by far on 25m, everything else JBA carriers with degraded propagation. Far overtime pulse jamming JBA on 11860. Only Cuban SWBC still on, none on 4, 5, 6, 9 or 10 MHz. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NIGERIA. 7255-, Dec 2 at 0727, S9+10 open carrier from VON. As others note it can be quite sporadic starting at 0600, or not (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 88.7, more about the KJIL translator in Enid which came on air a few days ago. It is mentioned in the WTFDA FM db, not under 88.7 but 88.3! ``K202BY relay of: KJIL 99.1 88.3 ENID OK CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN / RELIGIOUS TEACHING YOU'RE WITH FAMILY 0.0 0.25 0.0 80.0 36-23-57 97-52-48 CP for K204GU 88.7 expires 6/1/21`` It may have ``expired`` a sesquiyear ago, but without embargo it just came on the air -- and, 88.3 is now off, so in effect it`s a QSY. Not clear why they would want to move as it seems there is more QRM on 88.7. But that frees 88.3 for some DX, and rids 88.1 KWOU Woodward of ACI somewhat improving KGOU relay accessibility into Enid; but there is still CCI from Oasis in Moore. Note that 88.3 was 250 watts vertical only. FCC Query for 88.3 as a CP for 88.7 shows 140 watts horizontal only, and different GC: 36-24-29 97-59-56, i.e. further north and west. I get/got them both no matter what the antenna polarity. Dec 2 at 2259 UT, I`m trying the DX398 with telescopic only, to find dead air on 88.7 from ``KJIL``; and without really trying at a certain angle, there is classical music! I bet it`s KWTU Tulsa - yes, soon ID as KJIL resumes mod. Of all the 88.7s around here, KWTU would be most desirable, but it`s only 5/5 kW ERP, designed for Tulsa area only as an offshoot of KWGS 89.5, both Public Radio Tulsa. Checking APRS map an hour later, there has been some tropo boost in the Enid/Tulsa/OKC triangle. Looking at all the Enid listings in WTFDA FM db: still has K226BR on 93.1 as relay of KIMY 93.9 tho marked as ``silent`` -- has been gone for years but may still be licensed? KQOB 96.9 still shown as relay of KZLS 1640, tho that ceased months ago as I reported at the time. KQOB went from rock music to far-right talk // 1640, but then 1640 flipped to sports talk // 1390 KCRC, leaving only Eagle 96.9 with the far-right talk (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ROMANIA. 756 kHz, Dec 2 at 2135, since I have Noale, Italy SDR up to check WORLD OF RADIO on 1323, 918, 207 kHz, I then tune it here for the new HQ transmitter from SE Algeria, unknown power. Instead, strong signal of a boogie-woogie song in English! R. România Actualitatsi is listed, so I pick a // at random to check, and there she is too, much weaker on 945. WRTH shows 756 as 400 kW from Lugoj (Boldur) = but not at night; 945 as 15 kW from Miercurea Ciuc (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Dec 2 at 2300, since it`s Friday, time for another token English from REE. First on the DX398 with a little help from reelout, it`s hardly solid here with fading; a bit better off the back to ME on 12030, and 11940 to SAm also audible. Missed the preview, but after news at 2308 first feature is about a stupid ballgame player. 2321 recheck on the main rx, quite different reception, nothing on 12030 or 11940. 9690 has Justin interviewing an author, outro as Alan (sp?) W. Moore, of ``Art Worker`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Dec 2 at 2321, VOT is S9+10/20 of undermodulated music; with deep fading at 2350 multi-lingual ID filler reel; 2352 sign/off with jumbled full English sked; 2354 IS; 2356.6 starts IDing in German but chopped off as the second one starts at 2357* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 6993 AM, Dec 2 at 2323, JBA carrier, time for another occasional presumed log as explained in DXLD 16-16, of WH2XWF, an experimental 164-watt transmitter with several locations in Florida, to study ionospheric disturbances (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2166 monitoring: ``From: Richard Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees. Dear Glenn: Confirming World of Radio #2166, WRMI: 5850, 0830, 0840, 0855 (55433-4), 0859, November 25 [Fri] 5950, 0130, 0144, 0158 (55434), 0159, November 28 [Mon] 9395, 0132 rough going, November 29 [Tue] 9955, check, noise, 2330, 2344, 2353 (45433), 2359, November 29 [Tue] 5850, frequency empty, 1030, November 30 [Wed] 9395, confirmed barely heard jingle, 0130, December 1 UTC 2022 [Thu] (Lemke, Richard -AB)`` WORLD OF RADIO 2167 monitoring: confirmed first SWBC, the 0330 UT Friday December 2 on WRMI 7780, tuned in just in time at 0358, S9 direct vs S7 HNL here. Also confirmed Friday December 2 at 0830 on WRMIs: 5010, S9+10 direct; 5850 S9+10/20. 7780 is JBA but I think I hear a bit of music after the first minute so can`t be WOR, unlike last week when on all three. No, I did not want to be awake at this hour but found myself such, so might as well check me. Later learnt that WRMI has just started relay of Voice of Indonesia! at 08-09 on 7780. Unfortunately this remains WRMI`s worst frequency here, off the side of southwestward beam. Nor hardly helpful in the middle of our night for North Americans. From WRMI on FB Dec 1: ``WRMI Begins Relays of the Voice of Indonesia --- WRMI has begun testing relays of the daily English-language program of the Voice of Indonesia. The one-hour program can currently be heard at 0800-0900 UTC on 7780 kHz. While beamed to Central America, this frequency can often be heard well in North America, Hawaii and Oceania at that hour. Reception reports from listeners would be most welcome. It is possible that these relays could be expanded in the future to additional times and frequencies, as well as additional languages including Spanish.`` WOR 2167 not confirmed Friday December 2 at 1530 on WRMI 9955, not checked until 1555 direct to find it`s OFF the air, while the other 31s, 9395 & 9455 remain loud and clear. And it`s too late to get the computer running for check of WRMI`s only frequency meriting webcast, but probably. Confirmed Friday December 2 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, into nearby Noale SDR, S9+5/10 but with ripple SAH from another transmitter altho not much modulated QRM. On 918 kHz there are 2 or 3 weak signals but cannot recognize me as one of them; also 1 kHz het from 917 Nigeria. Next: 0130 UT Saturday WRMI 5850 to NW 0500 UT Saturday WBCQ Radio Angela 5130v to WSW 2030vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM 0030 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to SW 0400vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0415; as late as 0530] 2100 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW 0130 UT Monday WRMI 5950 to NNW 0400vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW 0130 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed by Cuba] 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW [? missing previous week] 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html A noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated. Thanks this week to Chuck Ermatinger for a contribution via PayPal in US funds, but not necessarily, to woradio at yahoo.com One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9330-, Dec 2 at 0725, JBA carrier, presumed WBCQ, either QRP or propped out; while southerly signals WRMI on 9395, 9455 and 9955 are good; and if Cuban Spy, would also have been much stronger, cf 11670 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Ex-5085 et al., another WTWW update from George McClintock, my scribbled notes paraphrased from phone conversation early UT December 2: #2 transmitter is now ready to run at 100 kW; #1 maybe 85 kW. You can`t really tell the difference by listening until maybe 50 kW or less. The power modules on #2 were burnt to hell. There was a massive cooling water leak, spilt all over the floor. They had many gallon jugs of distilled water on hand to compensate. #3 antenna is severely damaged, for the Harris 100 transmitter, could run low power only. The antenna matching device for #1 had been disconnected, and the cover missing, but it seems to work. Everything is wrong. Various other missing parts had been hidden, now found. US SW stations are supposed to pay a frequency coordination fee each season, but this was not done by WTWW, maybe about $ 200K behind, with 25% penalties building up! This does not go directly to FCC but to USG general fund. Any purchaser would have to clear that debt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 0105 UT December 3

WORLD OF RADIO HITLIST update Dec 1 https://www.w4uvh.net/hitlist.htm
1) Australia - ABC R Australia: Long overdue update of links from obsolete radioaustralia.net.au to new abc.net.au, and update of FB page to ABC Pacific 2) Australia - Radio 4KZ: new entry to list - added links to home page, schedule, live stream and FB page 3) Brazil - R Brasil Central: new entry to list - added links to home page, schedule and live stream 4) Cuba - R Havana Cuba: Added link to a second RHC Facebook page 5) Ecuador - HCJB: Updated links to new domain name (hcjb.org replacing radiohcjb.org) 6) France - RFI (English): Removed redundant schedule and live stream links; added link to podcasts 7) India - AIR: Added direct link to B-22 External services schedule (thanks to Jose Jacob, dxindia mail list). Removed redundant links to AIR GOS (English services) (I had hoped that the GOS might be re-instated post-Covid, but there now seems little likelihood in forseeable future). 8) UK - WMRI Europe: Deleted entry as programming ceased and domain no longer exists 9) USA - AWR: Updated link, and added an alternative link, to Wavescan podcasts. 10) USA - WTWW: Updated links and renamed to new "WRMI Legends" and moved under WRMI The next update is scheduled for late December. Best wishes and 73, Alan Roe ** BRAZIL. 9664.4, Dec 1 at 0735, singing ID of ``Rádio Voz Missionária`` at S7/S9. Lately has been closer to 9665. Wolfgang Bueschel had it on 9664.697, Nov 30 at 0019 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6165, Dec 1 at 0747, S9 of dead air, only Cuban SW frequency still on air. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** INTERNATIONAL INTERNET. It`s hard to believe how eager some are to ``celebrate`` Xmas for whole month of December and even beyond, but the selective listener will find some worthwhile music from webcasting public radio stations, such as Portland OR, [UT -8]: https://www.allclassical.org/spotlights/2022-holiday-programming/ And NYC, [UT -5]: https://www.wqxr.org/story/spend-your-holidays-wqxr-2022/ I have not yet found any holiday programming page at several other classical stations, but maybe shall shortly. Another to look out for is the Paul Winter Consort Solstice Special from the Cathedral of St John the [allegedly] Divine. PWC website says info will be up shortly. They usually have more than one performance leading up to Solstice date, but the broadcast may be from a previous year after a lot of post-produxion be completed. Icarus, (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Dec 1 at 0748, JBA carrier from R. Kiribati; no other TP/TA splits noted (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 88.7, UT Dec 2 at 0030 and anytime for the past few days, stronger gospel huxter than usual, QRMing what had been a semi-open frequency used for my RF feeder around the house. Now I listen to it long enough to hear frequent ``KJIL`` IDs and Xmasmx, not the marginal 11 kW signal from KLVV Ponca City. WTFDA db shows a 50 watt translator in Fairview, but it should not be so strong here; as well as a 200-watt KJFV in Fairview with no further info but surely mutually exclusive. Nothing in Enid on 88.7 per WTFDA. But FCC FM Query has it! ** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Wednesday November 30 I try to tune remote for LRA36 from 1500, but my Internet is out! 1522 it finally connex while I am on the phone waiting for Optimum to do something; and RNASG is indeed on, into Argentine SDR, S5/S7 during song; 1524 ``nos une`` ID, this-week-in-history; 1534 surprise, a few Vs in Morse code apparently intro to some kind of promo, music; 1538.5 more historical talk but dumps off air abruptly at 1543.6*, and nothing more by 1619 when I quit. Also:
[WOR] All our LRA36 reports for 2022 so far --- Nov 28 at 6:28 PM Exhaustive compilation of 2022 log reports of LRA36, almost? all from gh and other WOR iog members: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Z6ksS06h9QgvCiYEiKKBq_1fCnfVjtXH/view It starts with the Wikipedia entry still getting the FM frequency wrong, 97.6 instead of 96.7. This was done by Tony Rogers of the British DX Club as part of DX Guides, with Antarctica at the very bottom of the Americas sexion: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pdZGhp9MCT_Yx3XmIASdwf1gV1Ug5P8p/view What about previous years, and will this page survive into 2023? BDXC made it clear I was not welcome to post my log reports to their newsgroup, but I am glad they have found some use for them (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA. 2598 USB, Nov 30 at 0739 UT, marine weather by CCG roboYL in English, S9+10, surprisingly much stronger than 2749 USB, sounding like the same. Not so surprising, considering that altho further at Placentia, NL, 2598 VCP-4 is listed as 3000 watts, first broadcast of new day at 0737; while 2749 is VCO Sydney NS with only 550 watts from 0740. Each timeshares with several others on same frequencies. I would love to hear the other further Canadians on 2514, 2582, but scheduling is not favorable (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6060, Nov 30 at 0737, S9/+10 of dead air: only Cuban SW transmitter still on air. Cairo where something`s always egregious (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KIRITIMATI [and non]. 846 kHz, November 30 at 0744, no signal at first, but JBA carrier at 0748 recheck, maybe just a fade rather than off/on, and one should really listen for more than a few seconds. At first the only other 9 kHz split is a slow beat on 855, likely Spains; and at second there`s 711 kHz JBA carrier, likely Western Sahara (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NIGERIA. 7255-, Nov 30 at 0734, S8/S9 of dead air except for trace of modulation, no doubt VON on signature strong off-frequency. The other half cleaning is scheduled for next week. The front door has dropped down and is being fixed. A small crew is staying in the house to save on motel expense. Light bulbs have been replaced and garbage/trash has been removed from the transmitter building. AC unit filters which were unbelievably dirty have been replaced. #3 transmitter outside filters have rusted in place and had to be hammered out and replaced. Transmitters 1 & 2 are running but await the water cleaner RESIN to keep the eating of copper tubing up. Sacrificial rods are to be replaced soon. All moving parts have been lubricated and working correctly, for a change. Over one half of the transmitter light bulbs are out and are slowly being replaced. One of the Harris SW100 transmitter #3 motors was removed and not replaced. We have a replacement motor which is currently being installed. More fixes in a later release. George McClintock 11-28-2022`` (via Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Re my log of 1240, KNEM, Nevada MO, Wayne Heinen replies: ``Regarding KNEM/KNMO I received the reply below from GM Mike Harbit, currently the 43rd edition reflects his statements. All three are listed as Grp= Double K Country. 73 Wayne Heinen, N0POH, Editor, NRC AM Radio Log, Aurora, CO. “Hello Wayne, All three stations carry the same programming. There is no such thing as Double K FM 99.9. Have no idea where that came from. We do split off AM 1240, KNEM/99.9 at various times for game broadcasts especially during the high school football and basketball seasons when we are carrying multiple games at once. I'm going to assume this is where the confusion comes from. I hope this answers your questions. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Mike Harbit, KNEM/KNMO-FM Radio, Nevada, MO”`` [undated] (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 7890, Nov 30 at 0736, JJBBA carrier from R. Vanuatu X 2, but inaudible on X 3 = 11835 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0015 UT December 1

Glenn Hauser logs November 29, 2022 |

RECEIVER PROBLEMS: my main rx, Icom R75, originally ``instant-on``, began taking up to a minute to warm up several months ago and this has increased little by little, so that now it takes almost 3 minutes. By warm-up, I mean fully tunable. It seems to be receiving signals without much delay; it`s the audio output to speaker or phones which lags. I fear this may get worse and worse. Now am tempted to leave it on for hours between sessions, but not sure which would be worse: more on-and-off, or protracted on without use. Other annoying problem is tendency of frequency keypad to bring up not only the one I punch, but an adjacent number; or sometimes Enter before I am quite finished. Any advice? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 10080, Nov 29 at 0315, RHC harmonic again, S5/S9, tnx to tip from Jorge Freitas in Brasil, posted to WOR iog at 0310: ``10080 29/Nov 0304 CUBA Radio Habana Cuba. Same program as 11760. Could be second harmonic of 5040, but 5040 doesn't have any signal here or on SDRs. 73 Jorge Freitas, Feira de Santana, Bahia 12°14´S 38°58´W - Brasil, Tecsun PL-660, XHDATA, Antenna Delta Loop and LW 20 meters`` However, here, unlike my previous logs with nothing more than a JBA carrier, fundamental 5040 is also to be heard louder, S7/S9, but nothing on 11760. Propagation must be iffy. Harold Frodge was hearing nothing in the Great Lakes - Michigan, unknown if referring to 10080 only or all three. 10050, Nov 29 at 0727 my next check, 10080 is off but 2 x 5025 Radio Rebelde is on! S9/+10, and 5025 is back after a long absence, at S8/S9. Then Ivo Ivanov, Bulgaria, reported, via SDR Half Moon Bay CA, assuming all these are ``BAUta 100 kW 083&263 to Cuba``: ``Radio Habana Cuba in Spanish/English/Spanish on 5040 khz & 2nd hx 10080 kHz via Bauta, November 29: 0519&0559 on 10080 Spanish/English. Good 0519&0559 on 5040 Spanish/English. Poor from 0659 on 10080 Spanish is unscheduled. Good from 0659 on 5040 Spanish is unscheduled. Poor And assuming these are ``BAUta 100 kW / non-dir to Cuba``: ``Reception of Radio Rebelde in Spanish on 5025 kHz & 2nd hx 10050 kHz via Bauta, November 29: 0715&0758 on 10050 Spanish. Very good 0715&0758 on 5025 Spanish. Weak/fair`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11760, Nov 29 at 2007, RHC English again instead of break, much better here S9/+10 than // supposed only frequency 15140. Too bad, but 11760 gone before 2049 recheck. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [non]. 9955, Nov 29 at 1616, WRMI with anti-Communist rant in Spanish, S9 vs NO jamming. Not // 11860 Martí. Another secret broadcast of R. República? Previous announcement included some other nights but not every. 1629 resumes ``derecho al trabajo`` subject. Checking again WRMI skedgrid, transmission hours atop shows 9955 continuously with System B, while contradictorily, SysB sked shows it ``internet only`` at these hours with no content given! 9955, next check Nov 29 at 1904, still/again? anti-Communist rant in Cuban Spanish, S7/S9 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT. 9439.995, Nov 29 at 2133, R. Suecia, including lots of clips, some in English. It`s `La Rosa de Tokio` as scheduled this hour Tuesdays. Sounds familiar; altho `new`, I search out previous LRT publicity that R. Sweden would be topic: weekends of 7/17/22, 12/26/21, 5/22/21, 6/21/20. Older ones maybe different, but suspect reruns lately, never specified. I still haven`t figured out what Tokyo Rose has to do with any of this. Direct at first, it`s poor, but at 2050 into Maryland SDR, VG S9/+5. 9955, WRMI: See CUBA [non] (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 7890, Nov 29 at 0729, JBA carrier from RV 2 X 3945; 11835, JJBBA carrier on 3 X 3945 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 6810, Nov 29 at 0725, JBA carrier, often noted but not logged.
