Thursday, November 10 2022
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Wed Nov 9 at 1449, LRA36 is on already at tune-in via Argentine SDR, with prélude songs, good signal. 1501 canned sign-on with multilingual ID, staff names, ``Nacional, la radio pública``; 1503 themesong mentioning several bases; 1506.5 recitation, this time voices sound like kids; 1508 songs; 1512 live opening of programa #30 of 2022 cycle. Tomorrow will be a special holiday; 1514 currently minus 5 C, and other conditions; someone has a birthday; 1516 contact info; tomorrow will be Día de la Tradición as first proclaimed in 1939y; 1518 tango; 1520 ``nos une`` ID; 1526 about folklore, 1531 fútbol; 1549 Tierra del Fuego became the last province in 1990 - ex-territorio? Signal a bit weaker now, S7 peaks with fades into local noise level. 1553 guest on phone line; 1608 YLs still chatting; 1613 song; 1617 ID with staff like sign-off, ``la radio hecha por mujeres``, ``nos une`` ID and off 1618* --- no, after a pause a bit more bandoneón music from 1618.5 until really off at 1620.7* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CHINA. 15125, Nov 10 at 0006, CRI English is the SSOB, S6/S7, Cuba or Mali relay? No, registered as direct from Beijing site, 500 kW at 215 degrees for Asia. Traces of long/short path echo 0008 during brief deep fades. Directly off the back would be 35 degrees thisaway (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also CUBA 6000 ** CUBA. 6000, Nov 10 at 0011, strange mixture here, RHC in Spanish, and Chinese music, while 5990 CRI relay is missing. Double audio feed into a Quivicán transmitter? RHC is the Mesa Redonda diversion // VP 11950, where there is *no* music mix. OR, CRI on wrong frequency, QRMing RHC on same channel! I can`t detect any beat between them. I would have guessed two different sites rather than listed both Q. 0020 CRI in Spanish too, `China en Chino`. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 5040, Nov 10 at 0011, RHC is OFF, when English should now be appearing in B-season. 5025 Rebelde also off. By 0142, both are still off but 4765 Progreso is on, vs CODAR swirshes. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NEW ZEALAND. 13730, Nov 9 at 0704, RNZP sufficient S8/9+10 with RNZ news of US elexions in American Samoa, another Pacifican, Guam? Never mentioned in Mainland WTW elexion coverage. Adrian Sainsbury tells me they are working on solving the China clash at least at 08-09. Wolfgang Bueschel says there is another 13730 collision with Austria at 11-12 UT; I`ve forwarded that also to Adrian, and hoping for an 11 MHz band replacement, better for the extra N American audience (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** THAILAND. 13750, Nov 10 at 0008, R. Thailand with news in English for N America, S7/S9 but weaker than some Chinese signals on band (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2163 monitoring: ``From: Richard Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees. [2162 on WRMI]: 9395, jamming noise [??], QSB fading, 0030, 0040, 0045, 0058 (45333), November 3 UTC 2022 [Thu] 2163 on WRMI: 5850, signal S9, QRN, later falling to S7, S8 signal, 0131, 0145, 0158 (45333), November 5 UTC 2022 [Sat] 5950, jamming noise [?? from 5955??], 0130, 0141, 0155 (45343), 0159, Nov 7 UTC 2022 [Mon] 9395, noise, other TV QRN, 0130, 0144 (45343), 0159, November 8 UTC 2022 [Tue] 9395, other TV noise, 0030, 0041, 0059 (45343), 0058, Nov 9 UTC 2022 [Wed] 5850, Signal S8, S9, 1030, 1059 (55433), 1059, November 9 UTC 2022 [Wed] (Lemke, Richard -AB) 73’s, Good listening, Richard`` Confirmed Wednesday Nov 9 at 2200 on WBCQ 7490v, S9/+10 direct --- a tremendous improvement over 2100 UT timing during summery DST season when JBA; also more and more darkness due to earlying sunsets. NOT confirmed UT Thu Nov 10 at 0130 on WRMI 5010 & 9395, as ALL transmitters have been closed down for Hurricane Nicole. WOR 2164 should be ready for download early UT Friday Nov 11 and if back on the air, first broadcast at 0330 on WRMI 7780 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9955, Nov 10 at 0002, WRMI is off, uncovering heavy Cuban jamming against nothing. Then I check all other WRMI frequencies and they are ALL gone: 5010, 5800, 5850, 5950, 7570, 7730, 7780, 9395, 9455, 15770. As expected, closed down as precaution because of approaching Hurricane Nicole. Depending on damage and power, may start coming back sometime Thursday once the storm has passed. Good luck! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [non]. 9330, Wed Nov 9 at 0700, WBCQ-6 is off again, exactly when it should be, leaving Cuban Spy Numbers in the clear - just voice now, no digidata. On a recent `AAAWWW`, Allan admitted he knew about the clash, but did not acknowledge that Cuba was there first, for years; per B22 Aoki, scheduled at 07 UT on days 1246 starting with Sunday = Sun/Mon/Wed/Fri. In EiBi A22 while B22 is inaccessible, it`s days 1357 starting with Monday: Mon/Wed/Fri/Sun. Sure would be nice if the two would use the same enumeration. HFCC, which doesn`t cover spies! matches Aoki. Also: ``You had surmised in a previous log WBCQ had perhaps lost the ability to turn the antenna for ~9330 kHz in recent months. You might have been onto something, as their reception at my location right now (0115 UTC on Nov. 9) and a few moments in the preceding hour is far superior than at any point since the spring. Too bad there is no reason for me to linger. Ricky Leong, Calgary, Alberta, Canada`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 11835, Nov 9 at 0701, JBA carrier from R Vanuatu 3 x 3945, but no signal on 7890 = 2 x (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0156 November 10

** CUBA. 11880, Nov 8 at 2344-2353.5* open carrier, and was not there at tuneby just before. Presumed RHC, last known frequency for 23-24 English hour. I had been checking all current and remembered frequencies for that, but unfound, nor before 2300. Usual pattern in EST season is to move it nonsensically one UT hour earlier. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** EGYPT. 9902.570, S3/S4 of dead air, presumed R. Cairo 9900 S American disservice. Something`s always egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** JAPAN [and non]. 10m ham contact: see URUGUAY [and non] ** NORTH AMERICA. 6935 USB, Nov 9 at 0011-0043, S9/+10 of pirate music, jazzy at first; 0028.5 SSTV beepery; 0030.5 back to music, now hard rock. Never any voice announcements, let alone IDs but this: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,105091.0.html has many logs of Thunder Chicken Radio with SSTV images including some fuzzy cheesecake (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5980, Nov 8 at 2150, S5/S8 of music, maybe Turkish? Yes, VOT scheduled here until 2200. Previous log of unID on 5960 - frequency was wrong! Delete (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 28207 CW, Nov 8 at 2212, E E E E E E E E E E DE N4XRO/B: ``28.2070 N4XRO C BURBANK, CA # 5W Horizontal Hamstick Dipole NEW 29 APRIL 2019`` --- If rated RST, this would get a T of 6 or 7, with a `chirp` rather than pure tone. N4XRO USA flag USA DAVID M POOLE, 441 N Parish Place, Burbank, CA 91506, USA ``10-Meter Beacon station is on the air --- As of 0300 UTC April 30, 2019 my IARU Region 2 coordinated beacon is on the air at 28.2070 MHz. If you happen to tune it in please leave a reception report at https://dm04.org Greetings from Burbank, California USA If you’re on this page it is probably because you tuned in our HF beacon in the 10-Meter Amateur Radio band on 28.2070 MHz. The station currently uses a custom made beacon by Vlad, AA7DJ, operating in CW mode. We are running 5 watts into a Ham Stick horizontal dipole antenna. Note: The equipment in use varies from time to time based on operational considerations as well as experimental tests being performed. Please see the Maintenance Log for detailed information on what equipment was in use and when. The beacon station has been operating continuously, contributing to the Amateur Radio community’s propagation studies since 03:00 UTC, Tuesday, April 30, 2019`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2163 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday November 8 at 2330 ex-2230 on WRMI 9955, S9/+10 into Maryland SDR well over Cuban pulse jamming. Also confirmed UT Wednesday November 9 at 0043 the 0030 ex-2330 on WRMI 9395, VG S9/+10 direct. Next: 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html A noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated. One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WRMI braces for another hurricane: On Facebook circa 0200 UT Nov 9: ``WRMI Radio Miami International 2h · Dear WRMI Listeners and Clients: Believe it or not, another hurricane, this one named Nicole, is headed straight for our transmitter site in Okeechobee. It's expected to hit tomorrow, Wednesday, November 9. We are expecting very high winds and heavy rains. As you know, we just finished repairing our transmission lines which were severely damaged by Hurricane Ian at the end of September. So we hope that we won't have to repair them again. But the situation appears very bad. We will likely have to shut the station down sometime Wednesday afternoon until the storm moves through the area, probably sometime on Thursday. However, we may have a power outage and/or antenna and transmission line damage, so we cannot say how long we will be off the air. If our Internet service does not go down, we will continue our Internet stream at www.wrmi.net Thank you for your good wishes, and we'll let you know what happens`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR) ** URUGUAY [and non]. 28403 USB, Nov 8 at 226, CX9ARH in contact with JA1TLE, who speaks some fraxured Spanish, mixes in Japanese and English. Last letter of CX9 sometimes with unrecognizable fonetik, othertimes as Hotel. They are close to antipodal, both heard equally well here, as 10m is wide-open also with UStations, but no phoners above 28.5 MHz, why? even tho there are some collisions in the 28.4s. CX9ARH keeps the frequency to call CQ Pacific. CX9ARH Uruguay flag Uruguay Roberto Gonzalez Hohn, Jose Maria Navajas 1263, Montevideo 12500, Uruguay --- with a few scenic photos on his QRZ.com page JA1TLE Japan flag Japan Yatsuka Kagawa, Ichihara City, Japan (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 20626.4 USB, Nov 8 at 2228, colloquial Spanish 2-way, cambio. ** BRAZIL. 9664.794, Nov 8 at 0710, RVM with music on variable frequency. Had been no signal previous night or two (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 6165, Nov 8 at 0721, S8/S9 of dead air. Must be RHC English not turned off yet. No other RHCs still on air. Lots of stuff listed on 6165, but nothing else at this hour. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, Nov 8 at 2000, RHC opening English hour, but VP unusable. Something`s always wrong at RHC. The Sunday Esperanto semihour should have been at 2330 or 2230, but Jean-Michel Aubier, France, heard if Nov 7 at 2146 on 15140 and 13680, but both cut off a minute or two later (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT. 9440, Nov 8 at 2229, S7/S9 of dead air direct except for whine, no doubt R. Cairo fruitless on air again. Something`s always egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MALI. 5995, Nov 8 after 0700, still no signal this month from R. Mali; nor at 1710 into Canary SDR nor on 9635. Hope not gone for good. The ChiCom should have been maintaining this along with their Bamako relay: is that still 100% operational? Of course, coups and counter-coups, unstable politix. Military have delayed until March 2024, return to civilian rule https://www.france24.com/en/africa/20220606-mali-junta-announces-two-year-delay-until-democratic-rule (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MALI. 13630, Nov 8 at 2158, song at S5/S8 continues thru hourtop, so not CRI? Yes it is, 2201 ID as ``Fréquence Afrique de RCI``, in a 2130-2230 French relay via Bamako (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NIGERIA. 7254.93, Nov 8 circa 0705 still no signal from VON direct when the frequency is free; at 1803 into Canary SDR, 7255 totally dominated by CRI Russian via East Turkistan. Of course, evening channel for VON was originally 11770v or 9690v, but for longtime had been unwilling or unable to go there, rather 7255v. So now I check Canary on those alternatives: nothing but heavy ACI to 9690; 11770 clear (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SAO TOME. 15460.075, Nov 7 at 1616, Afro lang S7/S9, off-frequency and just barely modulated, VOA Kinyarwanda, 100 kW at 100 degrees. Am wondering if this site ever manage to maintain frequency accuracy. There are 5 x 100 kW SW (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U K [non]. 21630, Nov 7 at 1626, BBCWS in English, S3/S6, the OSOB and SSOB, 125 kW at 114 degrees from ASCENSION, this hour only. BBC also here earlier in different languages, different sites (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 28216 CW, Nov 8 at 1950, 4 dashes and DE K3FX/B ..., ``28.216 K3FX C NEPTUNE CITY, NEW JERSEY # 5W, 1/2 VERTICAL`` per WI5V list; among several beacons now on band (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2163 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday November 8 at 0155 the 0130 on WRMI 9395, S9/+10 direct. Next: 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed by Cuba] 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html A noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated. Thanks this week for a generous check from Mike Cooper, Georgia, ``in appreciation of your continued activities``, to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702. One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9329.946V to .959, WBCQ-6/WLCR is finally back on air, S9+10/20 in English; had been missing for more than a week, and now is off-frequency minus instead of plus. Varying audibly as I try to measure it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9455, Nov 8 at 2153, JBA signal here surely not WRMI, off again, rather RFA Saipan/CNR1 jammer; while 9395 is S9+30; 9955 also off but back by 2205. WRMI also missing 9455 several hours earlier. Beware, another Hurrican, Nicole is heading near Okeechobee (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5830, Nov 8 at 0325, no signal from WTWW-1. Not that I miss PPPP, but come to think of it, random tuning has not encountered this for some weeks in prime evening time when ought to be on if ever. Even less so 9475 in daytime, not even Sunday mornings. Those should carry programming from WTWW owner, Scriptures for America. Yet WTWW-2 with Ted`s rock music or ham shows on 5085 continues regular at this check et al., from 0200? Earlier on weekends; closing time varies widely. Also sporadically active the so-called Ukraine service, Voice of Freedom on 9940. Another check at 1948: NO WTWWs (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 7890, Nov 8 at 0718, JBA carrier and a slightly stronger JBA carrier on 11835, 2 and 3 x 3945 from R Vanuatu (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA split MW carrier search, Nov 8 at 0735: 621-Canary, 711-Morocco; and 846-TP Kiritimati. BTW, 936 used to be prominent 200 kW from Morocco, but no sign of it for a year or more (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 5960, Nov 8 at 2150, S5/S8 of music, maybe Turkish? Tuesday, November 08 2022
** CUBA [and non]. 880, Nov 7 at 0350, Spanish music atop KRVN making a SAH of 84/minute = 1.4 Hz, presumed R. Progreso, Pinar del Rio, but no SW 4765 to //. During EST season, nominal 4765 hours are 0130-0500 only UT. Does not fit exactly mwoffsets which implies these two 3.9 Hz apart as measured on widely divergent dates 2 or 3 years ago. If KJOZ TX were the Spanish, it and KRVN were only 0.7 Hz apart as of 2018/2019 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 5025 & 4765, Nov 7 at 0321, both Rebelde and Progreso are off; 5040 RHC Spanish S9/+10. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6000, UT Mon Nov 7 at 0344, RHC is S9+25/35, but just barely modulated with hum, not positive // 6165 as it`s only S7 and also JBM/hum, during `Mailbag` with ``Ed Newman`` -- him being soft-spoken would otherwise be pleasant, but not to cope with JBM! If RHC still have two separate English hours alternating, this confirm that now during evenings EST, Mbg appears within odd-numbered UT hours, as expected in updated DX/SWL/Media Programs, rather than even-UT hours during EDT. As for the isolated 1-hour Englishes at 20-21 and peripatetic 22-23 or 23-24, never quite sure which be which. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, Nov 7 at 2001, RHC English is still here, VP and distorted into Maryland SDR, presumably 20-21 ex 19-20 UT. Have not tracked RHC much more yet; may be further changes following week (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** FRANCE. 6090-6120, Nov 7 at 0341, NHK Japanese relay via Issoudun is S9+45 on 6105, splattering out to plus/minus 15 kHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** IRELAND. 3413 USB, Nov 7 at 0325, YL VOLMET in English, JBA S4 = HNL. EiBi shows it`s Shannon (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2163 monitoring: confirmed Sunday November 6 at 2100 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz only, S9+10/20 into nearby Noale SDR with fast SAH and lite English understation, presumably Smooth Radio, Brighton. Also confirmed UT Monday November 7 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9 but noisy into Missouri SDR; with 10-15 seconds of heavy noise overlaying, blocking audibility of my opening, starting exactly same time as WOR playback, obviously WRMI defect on this System/frequency. Also confirmed UT Monday November 7 at 0130 on WRMI 5950, VG S9+20/30 into Missouri SDR. Also confirmed UT Monday November 7 from 0401.5 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160 minus 65 Hz = 6159.935. In the previous sesquiminute A51 had some looping mélange, then cut to clear WOR. Next: 0130 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed by Cuba] 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html A noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated. Thanks this week for a generous check from Mike Cooper, Georgia, ``in appreciation of your continued activities``, to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702. One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 7890 < 11835, Nov 7 at 0740, R. Vanuatu JBA on 3945 harmonix (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 603 kHz, Nov 7 at 0725, strong carrier but off at 0730 UT. This is a 9/kHz TA/TP split channel, but wonder if something closer, like a domestic with a 3 kHz tone? I am not the only one curious about 603. Possibilities include 500 kW Korea S, 600+ kW China; 500 kW Oman, but all into daytime, most of all Oman. Similar quandary on 891, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 891.00, Nov 7 at 0352, big het vs WLS and Cuban Spanish on 890.00, but can`t pull any audio. Obvious choice would be Algeria, but not there at 0412 recheck on the R75; so receiver birdie? Similar quandary on 603, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA split MW carrier search, Nov 7 at 0412: 684, 774-2, 837, 855 -- all likely Spain or Canary; 1467 & 1566, JJBBA TWR Benin. Nov 7 at 0440 another sweep: 612, 684, 747-2, 774-2, 837, 882, 999: likewise, except 612 Morocco. UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA split MW carrier search, Nov 7 at 0725: 801, maybe not too early for 10 kW KTWG Guam, 500 kW N Korea or 250 kW Taiwan? Also 846 Kiritimati; 1287? 50 kW Japan?
