Glenn Hauser logs October 11-12, 2024  View Printable Version

Logs
** ARGENTINA [and non]. 10m is crammed with signals, Oct 12 at
2202-2209. Must be some contest and/or enhanced propagation, many of
them relogs I will not go into detail now: beacons LU2DT, VE7MTY/B,
W1DLO/B, KC4QLP/B; and lots of phones too (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO [and non]. 770, Oct 12 at 0638 UT, trying to confirm whether
KKOB NM is still on the air; see USA. Spanish is atop, 0641 `Estilo de
Vida` program name; 0645 Fórmula promo, so has to be XEACH Monterrey,
25/1 kW per IRCA & mwlist. However, at 0701 recheck, no Spanish, off?
Supposedly 24h per IRCA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO [and non]. 800, Oct 12 at 0646, distorted QRM to KQCV OKC,
still XEERG Nuevo León. We don`t notice this earlier in `primetime`
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

[correcting previous report with typo as 11539.92:]
** NORTH AMERICA. 11529.92 approx., Oct 11 at 0322, oriental? music at
S7/S8, no doubt Hikari FM upped 15 kHz from previous channel, and
still signature skewal (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.007-, Oct 12 at 2158, VOT IS & ID, VG S9+20/30
direct; 2200 TS and s/on as if its`s 1230 on 17620. Something`s always
awry at Ankara. 2201 olds starting with Serbia/Turkey business
coöperation. 2221 into UTwente when measured, S9+45/50, `Turkey`s
Geomarked Products` something about yarn/cloth/rope dyed various
colors. 2223 music. 2229 TRTVOTVorld.com promo, music. 2235
``with-you-every-hour`` promo, music. 2242 ``always-by-your-side``
promo, music (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2264 monitoring: confirmed UT
Saturday October 12 at 0300 on WTWW 5085, VG direct. Not a problem,
but not caused by me, I`ve noticed that this airing starts with a few
words from a preacher before cut to WOR opening. Also as usual
followed by two minutes of music 0329-0331* turned off without ID or
sign/off announcement. Upon request, I sent WTWW a half-minute WOR
promo they could play anytime. Has anyone heard it?

Also confirmed Saturday October 12 at 1450 the 1430 on Shortwave Gold
Radio, Germany, 6160.001, S9+10 into UTwente.

Also confirmed Saturday October 12 at 1600 on WRN North America
webcast.

Also confirmed Saturday October 12 at 1735 the 1730 on SW Gold Radio,
Germany, 6160.000, S9/+10 but with RTTY QRM from 6164 and China splash
from 6165. Also slightly delayed on 3975.002, S9+5/10 in the clear.

Also confirmed Saturday October 12 from 1959 the 1930v on WA0RCR, 1860
AM, MO.

Also confirmed Saturday October 12 at 2015 the 2000 on WRN Europe
webcast. Next:
Once again WTWW 9475 is not on by 2249, but maybe will come on for
WOR?

2300 UT Saturday WTWW 9475;
0000 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?];
0230vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0315; as late as 0500];
1900 UT Sunday IRRS 1323-Italy;
2130 UT Sunday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2330 UT Sunday WRMI 7570 to NW;
0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW;
0300vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW [irregular];
0830 UT Monday SW Radio, Germany 6160 [resumed];
1930 UT Monday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW;
1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?];

2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.

Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 660, Oct 12 at 0644 UT, loud C&W, got to be KTNN Window Rock
AZ again on 50 kW ND day pattern despite WFAN (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 770, KKOB Albuquerque NM: Oct 12 at 0638 UT, trying to
confirm whether KKOB still be on the air following collapse of one of
two towers in the North Valley after balloon hit. ABQ news reports
said it would still be on air from one tower, despite a subject line
in one DX group, ``KKOB off the air``. I am hearing something in
English but can`t tell if KKOB, since it`s under Spanish, see MEXICO.
Typically in such a case, like KOKC or KAAY, gets STA to stay on at
night, ND but with lowered power.

However, at 0701 recheck, no Spanish, off? But ABC News which fits for
KKOB, per IRCA the only one on 770, and BTW, WABC runs Fox `news`, not
ABC! KKOB also has a 230-watt ND co-channel relay/booster in Santa Fe
only at night, filling in the null toward WABC; elsewhere very hard to
tell them apart unless ABQ be off or echoing, which they ought to
prevent. Walt Salmaniw found another story about this, originally AP:

https://www.timescolonist.com/the-mix/hot-air-balloon-strikes-and-collapses-radio-tower-in-albuquerque-during-festival-9649483
Similar one also in Enid News & Eagle.
4:48 audiovideo report by KOAT via Steve Whitt, MWC:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyzxeFc4LPo
This story says KKOB did go off the air, but would continue on FM.
KOAT exists due to a ``coats for the needy`` winter promotion (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 900 kHz, Oct 12 at 0646 UT, ID in passing as KHOZ,
C&W music. That`s in Harrison AR, U1 1000/62 watts, address on Radio
Avenue per NRC AM Log. More importantly, where`s XEW? Remember when it
owned 900 at night, 250 kW? IRCA Mexican Log 2024 says it`s 24h
100/100 kW still on AM; but current mwlist and consequently WRTH 2024
still claim 250 kW, and another Mex on 900, 10/2.5 kW, XEOK Amor
Monterrey, which is totally missing from IRCA Log (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

Logs
** CHILE. 28468 USB, Oct 11 at 2203, CA3VAK making California contax,
among several S American phonesigs on 10m, trans-equatorial prop
working. QRZ.com: ``CA3VAK Chile flag Chile, Victor M. Aranguiz M.,
Santiago, Chile`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO [and non]. 800, Oct 11 at 0647, near-local KQCV OKC preacher
hit by extremely distorted QRM, i.e. XEERG, Ojo de Agua, NL still
unfixed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NAURU. 21275 USB, Oct 11 at 0619, C21MM is JBA making quick
contacts. Would not have expected anything on 14m at this hour and
with geomag storm. Tnx to tips from Gary Pence, KM5X in Dallas:

``ARS C21MM Nauru Island (German Dx Peditions) --- Just Worked Amateur
Radio Station C21MM just 31 miles from the equator. On 10 meters and
17 meters 28033 and 18084 listening about 1.25 kHz up. Worked from
Texas on a path of 273 degrees. This is a muti-op Xmtr German
Dxpedition till Oct 29. More info on QRZ.com and a link to their
website. 0251z and 0302z.`` Later: ``C21MM STILL BEING HEARD IN TEXAS
AND ARKANSAW, 21275 KHZ USB, 0524 UTC. That East West path is there.
73, Gary`` - their site is on disgraced X/Twitter, no way. But
https://c21mm.mydx.de/ leads go:
https://c21mm.mydx.de/?Operating_frequencies
Nauru/Enid = 10509 km = 6530 stmi (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 11539.92 approx., Oct 11 at 0322, oriental? music at
S7/S8, no doubt Hikari FM upped 15 kHz from previous channel, and
still signature skewal (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1270, Oct 11 at 0649 UT, Spanish, ID with ``107.9 FM``,
music. First thought was KFLC in The Metroplex, but FM match is for
KRXO Claremore OK, as per WTFDA FM DB searching 107.9 for relays of
1270. 107.9 is K300CY in Broken Arrow, 0.15 kW horiz only, ``Ritmo
107.9`` yet not marked as Spanish! Altho 50/5 kW, KFLC is TUDN  sports
format. KRXO is rimshotting into Tulsa market: no relation, other than
ownership, to KRXO FM OKC sports programming on 107.7 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Fri Oct 11 at 2157 before token English, SNR a JBA
carrier direct due to degraded propagation, a smidgin better on 17715
for S America, and worse on 15520 for ME, still no 15390 for Af. At
2216 I check Maryland SDR; 17855 & 17715 both JBA S3, 15320 slightly
better but VP S3/S5 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.006+, Oct 11 at 2156, VOT not off the air, but only
JB direct, same at 2205. At 2215 into UTwente when measured,
multi-lingual 2-minute ID filler reel in progress, only poor S8/S9,
much weaker than usual due to degraded propagation. Slightly better at
2229, S9, but still insufficient for easy listening. After 2300 did
manage to be off the air rather than Germanizing (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 28265 CW, Oct 11 at 1755, DE K6SSB/B -- WGB list: ``28265
K6SSB/B - Brentwood CA USA CM97dm - #0 (01 Oct 2024) Note: de K6SSB 8"
off`` -- QRZ.com: ``K6SSB USA flag USA, Matthew J Iaconis, 650 Ash Ct,
Brentwood, CA 94513, USA`` DXMap shows computed sporadic E MUF spikes
as high as 94 MHz, but no FM DX; wonder if anyone is even trying, like
Randy Zerr in NV.

28300 CW, Oct 11 at 1756, K6FRC/B --- that`s all, ID only from this
beacon. WGB list: ``28300 K6FRC/B - Tracy CA USA CM97hp - #0 (01 Oct
2024) Note: Pwr 100w - Slow keying `` QRZ.com: ``K6FRC USA flag USA.
Paul Shinn, P.O. box 175, Valley Springs, CA 95252
USA. Go to www.K6FRC.com for K6FRC beacon locations and other
information`` Used to be regular on 13 MHz band without the /B but not
heard in ages (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 28218 CW, Oct 11 at 2200, beacon with 5 E`s, DE
WA1LAD/B K ---
WGB list: ``28217.5 WA1LAD/B - West Warwick RI USA FN41fq - #0 (06 Mar
2024) Note: de WA1LAD/B`` --- QRZ.com: ``WA1LAD USA flag USA, GILBERT
D "Gil" WOODSIDE, III, 285 3rd Ave, Warwick, RI 02888, USA``

28231 CW, Oct 11 at 2201, 8 E`s, NG7I/B --- WGB list: ``28230.8 NG7I/B
- Ritzville WA USA DN07tc - #0 (18 Mar 2024) Note: ID + grid + EEE -
Pwr 5w to a Hy-Gain Penet. 500 at 20'`` --- QRZ.com: ``NG7I USA flag
USA, PATRICK C PADGETT, 704 S Washington St., Ritzville, WA 99169, USA
-- * Temporarily QRT due to divorce and moving. *`` Really? Wonder if
that`s anything to do with the cheesecake on his QSL? Hi.

Also stalwart 28197 CW, 4 T`s, DE VE7MTY/B (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WRMI survey Oct 12 at 0106 into Maryland SDR, these
frequencies are OFF: 5850, 7570, 9455. The rest are ON: 5010, 5050,
5800, 5950, 7730, 7780, 9395, 9955, 15770. One more FB entry to those
last quoted:

``Hurricane Update as of 1700 UTC October 11: The frequencies of 9955
and 5050 kHz are operating normally again. We still have a problem
with 17790 and 5850 kHz.  Engineers are working on these`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7490 -68 Hz = 7489.932, Oct 11 at 2353, WBCQ S9/+15 into
Maryland SDR during FKB, while 5130- and 3265+ are still off. 6160 -69
Hz = 6159.931 with TOMBS before 2400. 2359, one-minute tone warning
and FKB upwraps; Chariots of Fire tune, canned ID, no disclaimer about
a repeat to follow, and 0000 Oct 12, William Tell Overture theme of
`AAAWWW`. I think Allan says ``yup`` at the start, and later, ``we
have to fight -- for the republic, free speech``, etc. Fumbles for
reading glasses, laments declining sight vision, and right into
politix: no mention of hurricane nor current datestamp. Insulting
President Biden as a ``puppet`` is enough to drive me away. Recheck at
0030 music playing, soon back to talk. I do wonder if A&A stayed in
Deland of Fla for Milton. Here`s a local report on damage there:
https://www.deland.org/692/Hurricane-Milton-Information
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 660, Oct 11 at 0325 UT, huge dominant signal with C&W, soon
ID as ``KTNN, Window Rock - Tohatchi - Ganado``. Far stronger than
neighbors WSM & WSCR! KTNN clearly yet again still on ND 50 kW day
power, take that, WFAN! Possiblizes AZ state for easterlyners. Cannot
find at FCC AM Query or LMS, any link to monthly sunrise / sunset
timetable! Has this been deleted for all stations? I try another one:
KOKC: can`t find that one at all! FCC is really screwedup. Per
gaisma.com, axual Window Rock SS today was 0046 UT. Recheck at 0645
UT, it`s gone, just weaksigs on 660 amid WSM & WSCR at normal levels
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 770, KKOB, radio tower down again by Fiesta balloon clipping
guywire. As happened before exactly one icosayear ago.
https://www.kob.com/new-mexico/hot-air-balloon-hits-radio-tower-near-balloon-fiesta-park/
Here`s an audiovideo, set to music, isn`t that nice?
https://www.koat.com/article/tower-collapse-video-balloon/62581474
One KOAT report says the downed tower was one they rely on at night.
So that means it can`t go direxional to protect WABC. KOAT TV refers
to KKOB as its ``media partner`` -- ha, long divorced from KOB TV.
Check for it tonight. More bits:
https://www.koat.com/article/tower-collapse-balloon-fiesta-park-2024/62580632

Geez, people don`t know the correct term is guywires:
``"At this time, it looks stable. We have no sagging in any of the
guidelines. The anchors are in place. There is only one guidewire
that's going over one of the anchors from the previous tower that
collapsed. So, at this time, we're we're very hopeful that the second
tower is structurally stable," Harris said.``
KOB, originally, should have known better than to locate its 50 kW
towers so close to an area which would eventually be filled with HABs
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1030 kHz, Oct 11 at 0653 UT, ``1030, Talk Radio KFAY``, CCI
from gospel music; a few minutes later, ``NewsTalk 1030 KFAY`` =
that`s U4 6/1 kW licensed to  Farmington AR, but address in
FAYetteville. Why not KFAR? Fairbanx, Why not KFRM? Salina/Concordia
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 9790, Oct 10 at 0539, S9+28 of dead air in Cantonese, CRI
relay finishing by 0500 but failed to turn off. Something`s always
wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, Oct 10 at 0540 RHC S9+30/40 in English but suptorted
also whining. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 720, Oct 10 at 0558, something in Spanish with WGN nulled
on the XHDATA D808; 0600 Mexican NA, brief choral version, and ID
mentioning ``La Lupe``: therefore per IRCA Mexican Log, it is XEDE
Saltillo, Coahuila. Power 8/0.25 kW so maybe on day power. Name
presumably alludes to ``The Virgen of Guadalupe``, Mexico`s very own
version of the BVM. She is always portrayed surrounded by ``rays``,
which could also correlate with broadcasting. I had no choice but to
spend my first nine years in the NM county of the same name (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 17790, Oct 10 at 1537, something S4/S7 in Arabic.
All WRMI transmitters were off since yesterday with power failure so
I`m rechecking for them. This is Vatican as scheduled 1530-1600 only
to collide with WRMI ``Radio Africa Network`` toward S America when
funxioning. No signals on 15770 or 9395, but JBA carrier on 9455, as
WRMI tolerates sharing that with CRI. Then checking FB for further
updates, rather than WRMI`s own website:

``WRMI Radio Miami International --- Hurricane Milton Update as of
1540 UTC Thursday October 10: Power has just returned at our
transmitter site, but there is some damage in the antenna field. Our
engineers will be doing a survey of the antenna field this afternoon.
We may be able to have some transmissions back on the air tonight --
no promises yet.

Hurricane Milton Update as of 1540 UTC Thursday October 10: Power has
just returned at our transmitter site, but there is some damage in the
antenna field. Our engineers will be doing a survey of the antenna
field this afternoon. We may be able to have some transmissions back
on the air tonight -- no promises yet.

As of 2200 UTC Thursday Oct. 10, our frequency of 7730 kHz is back on
the air. We are still surveying damage to the antenna field and making
repairs, and we hope to have additional transmitters back on the air
either this evening or tomorrow. Stay tuned for updates.

As of 2210 UTC Thursday Oct. 10, our frequency of 5950 kHz is back on
the air. So now we have 7730 and 5950 on the air.

As of 2255 UTC Thursday Oct. 10, our frequencies of 5010 and 5800 kHz
are back on the air. So now we are on 5010, 5800, 5950 and 7730 kHz.
[WORLD OF RADIO 2264]

At around 0000 UTC Friday Oct. 11, our hard-working engineers got
7780, 9395, 9455 and 15770 kHz back on the air. It is now well after
dark here in Okeechobee, so we will try to get some additional
frequencies back on the air tomorrow`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 17790, 15770, 9455, 9395, Oct 9 at 1900, NO signals direct
from WRMI frequencies normally active now, as Hurricane Milton is
closing in. It seems that one must consult disgraced FB for latest
station info rather than own website! Several of our monitors had just
checked that; Mike Cooper copied this at 1843: ``WRMI Facebook posts
during the past two hours:

`Hurricane Milton Update as of 1645 UTC Wednesday October 9: We are
starting to get some wind gusts here at the transmitter site in
Okeechobee, and there are two tornadoes fairly close to us that we are
watching carefully. So far our transmitters are operating normally,
but we anticipate we will have to shut them down in the coming hours
as winds get stronger here. We will try to maintain our livestream at
www.wrmi.net. Thanks to everyone who has emailed us, texted, called,
etc. with your good wishes.

Hurricane Milton Update as of 1825 UTC Wednesday October 9: There are
tornado warnings in effect for the area of our transmitter site in
Okeechobee, and at least one confirmed tornado sighting. And winds are
getting quite high. So we are shutting down all transmitters now until
further notice. Our Internet stream should remain on the air. So far
we still have electrical power.

1835 UTC Wednesday Oct 9: Our frequency of 7730 kHz remains on air, as
well as our www.wrmi.net stream. Power went out briefly, but has
returned.```

I check FB at 2317 and find only one more entry: ``1838 UTC Wednesday:
Power has gone out again at the transmitter site. Only our Internet
stream remains``
https://www.facebook.com/wrmiradio
Good luck to Jeff and company to survive and recover from this (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9930, Oct 9 at 2204, this WTWW is on with TOMBS, but 9475 is
off. By 2407 recheck, both are on and VG direct, 9475 with SFAW.
Expect both to QSY around 0100 to 5920 and 5085 resp. (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** URUGUAY. 28513 USB, Oct 9 at 2212, QRZ from CX7RM, Montevideo.
QRZ.com: ``CX7RM Uruguay flag Uruguay, Pablo Goldaracena Sommaruga,
Pinares Calle Sagitario 20005, Punta del Este, Uruguay`` with lots of
photos of antennas, equipment, friends and family, dog, certificates
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
