Saturday, December 31 2022
** CANADA. 1610, Dec 30 at 0713 UT, only JBA signal instead of usual sufficient CHHA Toronto; is it off? Soon fades up some Spanish music, so maybe caught just in a fade, or QRP? No 1610.65 het now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 6165, Dec 30 at 0728, S9+10/20 of dead air from RHC; likewise only other still on, 11670 at S5/S9. But is the dead air in English and/or Spanish? Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13680, Dec 30 at 2112, RHC in Brazuguese but suptorted with hum; 15140 in French with hum. Somethings` always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT. 9439.995, Dec 30 at 2203, no R. Cairo English signal into UTwente; something`s amiss at Abis (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NIGERIA. 7254.9+, Dec 30 at 0700, VON S9+10 and managing to modulate! in some African language: scheduled to switch from Hausa to Fulfulde at 0700 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA [and non]. This article never mentions OETA, which claims to cover all of Oklahoma, as on the map abottom this page: https://www.oeta.tv/about/ including Idabel in McCurtain county but certainly with outdated analog translator channel numbers like 73 there. At least on cable to that county and 76 others?? Of course, OETA has only ONE hour a week of `Oklahoma News Report` with a few repeats. It used to have a M-F half hour of news, which included items from several cooperating commercial TV stations in Tulsa, OKC, Lawton? Not any more. gh. Viz.: ``Data shows voting sagged in ‘orphan counties’ lacking news sources By Keaton Ross Oklahoma Watch 22 hrs ago Tucked away in the southeast corner of the state, McCurtain County residents receive television news from Shreveport, La. Shreveport is a slightly closer drive than Oklahoma City or Tulsa, and its stations rarely delve into Oklahoma politics. With statewide newspaper circulation a thing of the past, state Rep. Eddy Dempsey said his constituents mostly rely on spotty broadband service to keep up with developments at the state Capitol. “The sad part is, if I lived another mile west I’d be able to get them (Oklahoma news channels),” said Dempsey, a Republican from Valliant whose district covers all of McCurtain County and southern LeFlore County. “If I used my address in Oklahoma City I could maybe get those channels. But why should I have to do that when I live in the state of Oklahoma?” McCurtain County is an orphan county, a term coined by researchers to describe areas that receive little to no in-state public affairs coverage or political advertisements because of their media market placement. Orphan counties can be found scattered across Oklahoma. Cimarron, Texas and Beaver counties in the Panhandle receive television news from Amarillo, Texas. Stations in Fort Smith, Ark., serve Sequoyah and Le Flore counties...`` https://www.enidnews.com/news/data-shows-voting-sagged-in-orphan-counties-lacking-news-sources/article_2fa890ea-87bd-11ed-b1ec-c7c89c877765.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Fri Dec 30 after 2300, token English from REE, Justin Coe reviewing excerpts from his interviews past year, some of which I remember hearing before, including: performer on a tricycle; 2311 American discovering European art Alun (sp?) W. Moore; ending with the classical singer who confronts coughers and phoners in his audience, but concludes with light-hearted ``Short People`` by Randy Newman. After 2330 switch to French I check the other frequencies into Maryland SDR: 11940 & 12030 are weaker but quite sufficient; 11685 for Africa still absent (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.003+, Dec 30 after 2300, VOT English is VG S9+25/35 into UTwente, soon joined by CCI from CC Chicom understation, but way below this time; news and usual features, music breaks, including at 2347-2350, `DYKT?` the longest [strong??] bridge is in Tuerkiye, at border with Greece and Bulgaria, built in 1443, 1,270m, 174 arches, of limestone, travertine. Still in use today; more dimensions, etc. Music break and 2353 s/off, and off right away by 2355*, no German. Uncovers XJPBS only S7/S9; 2300 timesig, theme, joined by another carrier causing SAH (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Among a number of 10m ham beacons, Dec 30 at 2100/2103 by sporadic E, two on almost but not exactly same frequency, WI5V info: 28230+, E E E E E E E E NG7I/B: 28.2308 NG7I C RITZVILLE, WASHINGTON 2 WATTS, VERTICAL new start date 6 Dec 2021 28230+, but slightly lower from BFO pitch, VVV VVV VVV QRA W7PFR/B: 28.2308 W7PFR C MINERAL, WASHINGTON # 1.5W, VERTICAL New 8 February 13 presumed QRT [NOT] (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 11720, Dec 30 at 2134, I remember to check for Friday`s `Music Time in Africa` which during B-seasons only is beamed eastward from VOA Grimesland NC, but also hefty VG signal off the back to here. Heather Maxwell thinx its at the half-hour. Interruptions for promos, one right away claiming the times for it are Fri 0900, Sat 0900, 1500 and 2200 on voanews.com -- no mention of this time or anything about SW! A few minutes later they plug MTIA`s YouTube channel for ``everything``. Music is mostly Africanized Xmas carols. A ``needle-drop`` segment, apparently a music quiz for a caller-in. Off the air after 2200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2171 monitoring: confirmed UT Friday December 30 at 0330, first SW airing on WRMI 7780, but a JBA carrier direct; despite storm line from SE TX to central AR, best remote is Maurice LA, S5/S8, better than Missouri S6/S7 with more stormcrashes, Maryland S7 vs HNL. (BTW, 7730 still off the air). Not checked next airing, 0830 UT Friday on WRMI 5010 and/or 5850, too asleep; did anyone? Conflicting info about OTH Radio at 08-09 Friday only, on 7780 or 5850? Indonesia relay is normally at 08-09 on 7780, but this week Ron Howard heard OTH instead; so does that mean WOR was still on 5850?? Finally some good news: WOR 2171 confirmed Friday December 30 at 1530 on WRMI 9955, S9/S4 direct. Despite skedgrid, 9955 had been turned off after 1500 for a few weeks, but WOR continued on WRMI`s only frequency with webcast. Today WOR to completion at 1559; 1600 a few intrusive YL words, and switch to TOMBS. Now checking Maryland SDR, still on at 1645, but off by 1707, so can we now rely on 9955 SW at least until 1600? Once off but still tuned to 9955, Maryland is getting strange chirping: that`s 5 kHz off high-pitched Firedrake ChiCom jamming on 9950 against RFA Saipan at 17-19. Also confirmed Friday December 30 at 2149 the 2130 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, Villa Estense, 1323 kHz only, VG S9+15 into nearby Noale SDR, no QRM or fading. 2200 ``signing off`` but stays on with Feature Story News. Next: 0130 UT Saturday WRMI 5850 to NW 0500 UT Saturday WBCQ Radio Angela 5130v to WSW 2030vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM 0030 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to SW 0400vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0415; as late as 0530] 2100 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW 0400vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW 0130 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v OR 5130v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated. Thanks this week to John Spicer for a contribution via PayPal in US funds but not necessarily, to woradio at yahoo.com and says: ``Thanks for keeping the hobby alive and your fine work on the reports. Many thanks to the listeners that have contributed. Happy Listening, John Spicer`` One may also contribute by MO or check in US funds on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9330, Dec 30 after 0700, WBCQ-6 is off again; at 1530 check, it`s on again. Latest twit circa 1440 UT Dec 30: ``Allan Weiner @AllanWBCQ · 3h The New Year upon us. Angela & Allan Worldwide tonight. 8pm Eastern. 6160/5130khz. Tune in please. The state of the stations. The state of the nations. All discussed. Free radio. For our listeners. For our world. A good New Year for all.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Weird Al on Fresh Air, making the rounds for obvious reasons. A rather in-depth recent interview is on Dec 30 Fresh Air, available via here: Movie Interviews by Terry Gross 'Weird Al' Yankovic wants to 'bring sexy back' to the accordion https://www.npr.org/programs/fresh-air/ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 7260, Dec 30 at 0702, JBA carrier from R. Best wishes and a Happy New Year, Alan Roe ** ALASKA. 9550, Dec 29 at 1538, hymn at S8/S9. KNLS listed this hour in Russian (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** BRAZIL. 9819.106, Dec 29 at 0725, JBA carrier from R. Nove de Julho. That`s all I ever hear from this overnight station, but no doubt about it due to offset frequency. Gary Pence found a fine signal into an Argentine remote and recorded the ID at 0600, which is heard on WOR 2171; frequency display exactly the same as I measured it independently. Claimed to be on ``9820`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 5024, Dec 29 at 0737, Rebelde ID in passing, S9+10/20 but distorted. Someone mispunched instead of 5025; even worse for 5020 Solomons listeners, Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11670, Dec 29 at 0729, RHC news in Spanish, S9/+10, the SSOB by far with only a few JBA carriers elsewhere on 25m. This one is supposed to off much earlier and has been caught before in unscheduled English, Only one other lower RHC is still on: 6165, Dec 29 at 0730, S8/S9 of dead air, only RHC still on except 11670. Somethings` always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 9710, 11760, 13700 and no spurs, 15140, 15230, Dec 29 at 1534-1543, all these RHC active again initially with // piano music (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Dec 29 at 0744, R. Kiribati the only 9 kHz split JBA MW carrier audible now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2171) ** MEXICO. 6185, Dec 29 at 0733, XEPPM is S7/S9, good modulation, soprano in English with ``I know that my redeemer liveth``. Let us classify as a bit of classical among eclectic format rather than conversion to gospehuxterism. One redeeming aspect of religionism is the great music it has inspired, even for the Secular (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NIGERIA. 7255-, Dec 29 at 0735, VON turned on at S5/S7 but dead air or JBM (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 255 MCW kHz, Dec 29 at 1535 UT, SW, StillWater is still ON; 350, RG, OKC, is still OFF (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** PHILIPPINES. 9275, Dec 29 at 1536, VG in Chinese. FEBC Bocaue registered 100 kW, 1000-1600 at 345 degrees, i.e. NNW. I would have guessed NNE more USward like Tinang. Apparently the ChiCom do not bother to jam this (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. Latest twit from AW does not explain but mentions 6160 and 5130 only. Needs to hire engineers who can fix things (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5085, Dec 29 at 0738, PPP at S9+30/40 about something in year 1991, as WTWW reusage of 5085 is expanding, maybe all-night. Still with the JBA carrier spurs plus/minus 12.9 kHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Tnx to the reactivation of K17JN-D, Enid`s only TV station, 3ABN-TV, I was finally able to view their show about Adventist World Radio, at 0430-0500 UT Dec 29. Due to the SW angle, I felt obliged to take note of it, but as expected it was heavy on piety and light on the facts. They imagine there is a Devil always trying to mess things up. A disclaimer at the start that names had been changed, and the people shown are not the real ones in the conversion tales told: in other words, it`s all a dramatization even tho overlooking the disclaimer you might think otherwise. There were three stories of people who by chance happened to hear AWR and wound up being thrown into the water. Very little about AWR itself, but a world map showed stations everywhere, including all over China, which I find hard to believe (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 7260, Dec 29 t 0726, RV is VP S6/S8, JBA in HNL. Have stuck here for quite a while; when back to 3945 which can harmonicize to 7890 & 11835? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2171) Note: previous report dates should have been subjected Dec 26-27-28, not 25-27-28 This report dispatched at 0237 UT December 30

** ALASKA. Re: [WOR] HAARP Asteroid Bounce Experiment --- If I had read thru the linked publicity about it first, I might not have remarked about a publicity stunt. They indicate HF signals can penetrate better below the surface than radar. Here`s more via IRCA iog from Russ Edmunds Dec 27:
``Scientists plan to hit an asteroid with more than 9.6 million radio waves from HAARP`` https://interestingengineering.com/science/hitting-an-asteroid-with-radio-waves Hey, that`s a lot more impressive than ``9.6 MHz``! Yet the article keeps referring to it as ``low-frequency`` rather than standard scientific nomenclature, high-frequency. Low, only by comparison (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RCUSB, Wed Dec 28, LRA36 check via favorite Argentine remote, shared with someones in Los Ángeles and Essen, finds it S9 with song prélude at 1457 tune-in. 1501.5 standard canned s/on with multi-lingual advisory that it`s monolingual, staff names; 1503 themesong, recitation and another song as I am distracted by breakfast. 1513 live YLs as programa 38, last one of the 2022 cycle, but I can`t make out whether there will be a break next few weeks as likely. 1518.5 mentions 17 dic 1952 = base founding? Signal now fading down, and chops off at 1520.7* never to return by 1540 when I quit. Earlier I had also tried to get the webcast via https://www.radionacional.com.ar/ Antarctica is at the bottom, appropriately of the drop-down at Emisoras: which goes to this but only an error message: https://vmf.edge-apps.net/embed/live.php?streamname=sc_rad32-100131&autoplay=true Also got this: ``Hi, Glenn: ANTARCTICA. This Wednesday‘s broadcast which I‘ve heard via an Argentine SDR as usually popped up at 1456 UT amid a typical LA song. Strength was quite strong until 1516 when the signal disappeared unfortunately. It didn’t reappear until tune-out at 1540. Let‘s hope for a longer session this coming Saturday. Bye from Germany, Joachim Kornek, Dortmund`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. Dec 28 at 0724, no SWBC frequencies active on 4, 5, 6, 9, 10 MHz -- but the jammers against nothing on 5, 6, 7 and 9 MHz bands are still pounding! Ivo Ivanov has concluded that the main Bauta site is totally down, while some RHC frequencies attributed to Quivicán are still running. Something`s very wrong at RadioCuba. From 2334 Dec 28 I spot check some known RHC and CRI relay frequencies at the NH remote: OFF: 11760, 6000, 15230, 13680, 11670; ON: 13650, 11850 suptorted, 5990 VG; algo on 9710 unseems Cuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT. 9439.995, Dec 28 at 2210, another day with no signal, no loss, no English from egregious R. Cairo (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KIRITIMATI. 846, Dec 28 at 0728, JBA carrier, so R. Kiribati is on; no other 9/kHz splits detected (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NEW ZEALAND. 13755, Dec 28 at 0727, RNZP is S9/+10; yet hardly anything audible one band down on 11 MHz. Of course the S Hemisphere part of the path is at high summer (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NIGERIA. 7255-, Dec 28 at 0721, VON with S9/+10 of dead air. More reliably on lately, if only they could figure out how to modulate it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 255 MCW kHz, Dec 28 at 0745 UT, SW, 25-watt NDB at StillWater, is back! After chex every day or night, had been missing starting Dec 12. 350, RG at OKC, still off (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Dec 28 at 2315, Token English from REE about a bill pending in congress to allow people to choose their gender of record; and about Trans- and LGBTQ rights in general; how right wing and Catholix are opposed; even some feminist groups. VG into NH SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960.000+, Dec 28 after 2300, VOT English VG into UTwente, but soon pumping fading caused by XJPBS carrier slightly different SAH frequency, and almost as annoying as its modulation added later. Approx. 2320-2330, `Weekly Commentary`, same one as heard before about Scottish separatism. It may be weekly, but broadcast more than one day per week. 2353 recheck, drifted up to 5960.002, signing off and a bit of IS until cutoff at 2355* uncovering East Turkistan, std denunciation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2170 monitoring: confirmed UT Wednesday December 28 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9+32 into Missouri SDR. Via Bill Tilford, WBCQ advises that the 7490 transmitter is temporarily off the air, so its programming has been moved to 5130, most of it before 0300 so not conflicting with Radio Angela. So that means our next WOR should also be on 5130 instead of 7490: 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW [5130 instead temporarily] Yes, it was: JBA carrier on 5130 direct; poor S8/9+10 and noisy into VA SDR showing -21 Hz; but VG S9+5/15 into NH SDR at -14 Hz. Next: 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated. Thanks this week to Gerald T. Pollard, Raleigh NC, who sends a generous quarterly seasonal check for Winter Solstice to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to: woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5130-, UT Wed Dec 28 at 0100, WBCQ 7490 programming temporarily here while the 7490- transmitter is out of order. Confirmed as on sked, the South Sudan Messianic who wants to put a SW station on air there, ``Operation Nehemiah Missions With Messianic Rabbi William Levi``. Copy is tough because of his accent and some overmodulation distortion. 7490 webcast was restored after dead air there too, but will it still be running even tho SW is on 5130? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9330v, Dec 28 at 2216, WBCQ-6/WLCR is still/again off. No twits from AW to explain this now nor 7490 downage (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 7260, Dec 28 at 0722, JBA carrier reconfirming RV is still here instead of 5040 or 3945 and harmonix (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 1610.65 kHz, Dec 28 at 0733, JBA carrier again as het to 1610.00 CHHA Toronto; I ask again, is anyone else hearing it? (Glenn Hauser OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 5051, Dec 28 at 0726, S7/S9 open carrier still here. Ron Howard has also been hearing it. Maybe not SWBC but an idle ute, such as RTTY on standby (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0017 UT December 29
