The tension continues...will audio ever return on the TPs? Today, on one signal, briefly, yes. Otherwise, the headstone has been prepared.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly):

nada,

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling with splash or noise):

594 JOAK woman with city temperature reports, thin sound but very clear 1556UT.

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker:

the above, passing through

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

972 man and woman talking 1553UT, Korean possible...? Oddly, almost exactly the same time and program as yesterday

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter)
747 774 1566 seemed to be Asian;
891 1017 seemed to be DU

best wishes,

Nick

ÂÂÂÂÂÂ Yesterday's tiny step forward was not the start of better things
apparently, as no audio at all was detected today. ÂÂÂ And so the
drought of '19 continues.ÂÂÂÂ A few TA carriers tonight, and the one on
1413 was as good as any of the TPs I had this morning.

I'm using the RSP1a, and I have two of them to cover more of the FM band. It's been fine for FM and 90% fine for MW/LW. RSP2 doesn't offer the width I need for FM. Elad or Perseus are out of the question cost-wise. I can only use MW/LW at our annual DXpedition due to proximity to strong locals, high noise level and terrible tree placement, so my primary use is FM.

Russ:

I wouldn't use the RSP1. It's better than the cheap 8 bit dongles but miles short of the Perseus, HF+ and Elad offerings.
The RSP1A is better and might suffice for some DXers but still is not top of the line.
The SDRUno software is fairly nice.
The chief advantage if the RSPs is price. However, the HF+ is just a little more and is the best receiver out there in my mind. If it recorded the whole MW band and had a recording scheduler, it would have no serious holes.

Since many DX'ers are now using SDR's, I wonder if anyone else is using the SDRPlay RSP1 or 1a for MW and LW. If anyone has been using these, and would be interested in sharing their experiences and answering a couple of questions, please contact me off-list.

Thanks-
