Glenn Hauser logs October 15-16, 2023  View Printable Version
Monday, October 16 2023

Logs
** BRAZIL. 5940.184, Oct 16 at 0214, JBA carrier presumed R Voz
Missionária; 5935 WWCR not too strong now. Not to be confused, I hope
with this: ``5940.19, Oct 9 at 0639, PMS audio on a discrete spur in the
sideband of 5935 WWCR; no match on the minus side`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, Oct 16 at 0215, RHC dead air at S9/+10 or trace of JBM
presumably English. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** EAST TURKISTAN. 9880, Oct 15 at 2212, Esperanto, so it`s CRI as
sked via Kashgar, land of imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uyghurs
and other Moslems. Note, it`s only Commies which speak Esperanto on
SW! with Cuba. What would Zamenhof say? He died on 14 April 1917y,
just missing the Bolshevik Revolutsiya. AFAIK not one gospel huxter
uses Esperanto: audience would be too smart (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6930 USB, Oct 15 at 0211, jazz at S6/S9, 0235 more
like soul vocal.

These reports say it was Two Dog Radio until 0219*
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,119544.0.html
followed by: Sycko Radio:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,119547.0.html
and followed by a third one on same 6930 at 0253 I did not hear:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,119549.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PERU. 4930.6, Oct 16 at 0003, JBA carrier direct, surely the new
station reported since Oct 6, on this frequency offset, R. Pitumarca,
Sicuani, via R. Surandina. But nothing there at 0018 when checked via
Bonaire SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, Oct 15 at 2211, NO signal from VOT into UTwente;
so per Craig Tyson`s advice, checking:

9875, the 2030-2130 English frequency which sometimes stays on thru
2300 --- There is something S9 locking on at 9875.003, but modulation
sounds like whispering, unreadable and can`t even guess the language.
Maybe that`s TRT. Or VOK in Mandarin, also sked this hour. No, this is
not splash from an adjacent, nothing on 9870 and 9880 has EAST
TURKISTAN, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2212 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
October 15 at 2000 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz only, S9+17 with
slight QRM from understation, Qur`an? so Iran sked until 2020. Also
confirmed on WRN to Europe webcast and WRMI webcast.

Also confirmed UT Monday October 16 at 0045 the 0030 on WRMI 7780,
S7/S9 into Bonaire SDR. This was not on last week so I removed it from
sked. Good thing I thought to recheck. So, what happens next week?

Also confirmed UT Monday October 16 at 0306 about 4 minutes into so
started circa 0302 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160 -68 Hz as displayed later
at 0354 by Maine SDR. Next:

0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW [NEW]
1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [NEW; also web-, phonecast; jammed?]
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB
1030 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB [previous #2211]
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW

No new contributions to acknowledge this week, in US funds but not
necessarily, via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com

Or MO, check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search: whoopee, the
`season` is back, able to detect a few on two receivers, three
different antennas; despite line and other noise levels, Oct 16 at
0231 on 855, 1044 and two beating on 1053. At 0247, 855 and 828. At
0305, 855 and 1053. Not making any airtight claims, but: 855 & 828
both have 100 kW Ethiopians. 855 more likely RNE Spain synchros. 1044
has 10 & 20 kW from Spain but 200 kW from Ethiopia. 1053 Talksport UK
synchros up to 500 kW, but also 50 kW Ethiopia -- the country common
to all 4 frequencies. WRTH 2023 has no sked info, but this would be
around 6 am local, likely to be on air and skipping out westward circa
sunrise. MWlist shows 828 // 855 // 1044 all R. Ethiopia, 24h. 1053
is R. Oromiya not until *0400, but Talksport is 24h.

Method: I scan the entire MW band with the new R75 set at 9 kHz steps,
USB tuning 1 kHz below each: thus, 1 kHz tones/hets on TA frequencies
stand out except of course those ending in -0 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1430 kHz, Oct 16 at 0233 UT, strong open carrier/dead
air dominating at S9+10, occasional dips to S9. No stations in OK or
nearby have favorable night patterns thisaway, but several ND day
patterns + failure to modulate make this intriguing (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs October 15, 2023  View Printable Version
Sunday, October 15 2023

Logs
** BRAZIL. 3365.1, Oct 15 at 0017, JBA carrier direct. See previous
report of R. Cultura Araraquara special test definitely heard via
remote in Brasil on this offset frequency. Was to run until 0200;
recheck via Brasília at 0228, it`s off; to return nevermore? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 11820, UT Sun Oct 15 at 0023, Chinese opera, S9+10/20. Don`t
understand a word or note but nice to listen to for a while till
fading by 0040 to S7/8. I sure thought it was Mandarin, but listed as
CRI Cantonese this hour only to SE Asia from Xianyang 59 site (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5990, Oct 15 at 0046, dead air with some hum at S9+30/40 from
CRI relay; then, bits of mod trying to break thru: wiggle that
patchcord! Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, Oct 15 at 0047, dead air at S9+20/40 with some hum;
something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. Hardly Chinese opera, but when that fades I`d better
check for pirates on Saturday night: 6950-USB, Oct 15 at 0049, S8/S9
sounds like oldtimeradio drama; distracted by another on 6955-USB, so
tuning forth and back. At 0051, 6950 is talking about SCOTUS as if in
a documentary. 0104 in music. Meanwhile I switch to real music on
Encore, 5850 WRMI, missing first few minutes. 0154 recheck, both
pirates off.
Many more reports of this as Zeeky Radio:

https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,119455.0.html?PHPSESSID=6hp79h89693npsmd8sb74umf67
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6955-USB, Oct 15 at 0050, right next to another
pirate on 6950, music I would call ``trance``; 0056 cut to SSTV which
presumably contained an ID but not for me; 0057 back to music; 0103
announcement maybe attempt at ID but all I catch is ``listening to
me``. And over to WRMI 5850 for Encore. 0154 recheck, both pirates
off. Many more logs with SSTV images, but unID:

https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,119459.0.html?PHPSESSID=6hp79h89693npsmd8sb74umf67
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11860, Oct 15 at 0040, huge loud hum, S7/8, obviously
the Republic of Yemen Radio transmitter which has been thus for
months; cannot hear any Cuban jamming against nothing under it. They
must be totally incompetent at site, but which? Aoki says Jeddah, EiBi
says Riyadh, HFCC says nothing, WRTH UD says Riyadh: the winner.
Perhaps Ed, the American ``navydude`` DXer who lives there, could clue
them in (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 365 MCW kHz, Oct 15 at 0650, JBA non-Canadian beacon, or two
mixing, hard to differentiate, but I think I hear AA, which is 100
watts from Fargo/Harwood ND; heard before, last Feb 22. Many other
tantalizing NDB carriers vs the high line noise level (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. UT Aug 27, 2023 at 00-01 on WRMI 5950, Texas Radio Shortwave
presented recordings off WRNO air by Mick Delmage, Alberta of two
WORLD OF RADIO editions from 1986, #322 and #342 - almost complete,
the second one slightly short for time. Many thanks to Terry Colgan
for this recognition. A few weeks later, TRSW suddenly suspended
operations. I hope Terry is OK. Now available this nostalgia as
broadcast on WRMI:
https://www.w4uvh.net/TRSWWOR1986.mp3
A special QSL was offered, but should not be requested now from
listening to this. It may be viewed however at:
https://www.w4uvh.net/TRSW_World_of_Radio_QSL_WRMI_Hauser.pdf
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2212 monitoring: confirmed UT
Sunday October 15 at 0000 on WRMI 9955, S5/S7 into Bonaire SDR with
some noise, maybe jamming.

Also confirmed UT Sunday October 15 at 0317 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO,
about 8 minutes into so started early circa 0309. Next:

1030 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 [also webcast, phonecast; jammed by Cuba?]
2000 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy
0300vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW
0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW [NEW]
1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [NEW; also web-, phonecast; jammed?]
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB
1030 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB [previous #2211]
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW

No new contributions to acknowledge this week, in US funds but not
necessarily, via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com

Or MO, check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5050, Oct 15 at 0019, no signal from WRMI; still off at
0200, but rock music on 9455. Aoki shows 5050 at 22-04 with Legends,
EiBi at 01-04. WRMI Legends blox are more convoluted also involving
9395. Aoki has also failed to delete long-defunct WWRB from 5050
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, UT Sun Oct 15 at 0019, no signal from WTWW; I guess it
be irregular, not always starting at 2300 or even 0000. Next check
0200 it`s on, Biermann ID as Ancient Word Radio -- another AWR! and
Truth2Ponder saying next week expects to add live services from the
little church he founded in SW VA, and repeat in evening. Evidently
will mean reactivating 9475 at least on Sunday mornings (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)
