13810-WOF was the best frequency here in Caversham with 12005-WOF also good.

A 2-minute shorter edition is on BBC WS later at 0132 UTC (0232 BST)
including I presume on R4 198 kHz longwave and DAB.

But also now available to listen to online at
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/w3ct5hqt (though always sounds better
coming through the ether!)

Celebrating Midwinter in Antarctica (21 June, 2023)

Today (21 June) marks the longest night in Antarctica and around 40 people
will be celebrating Midwinter in British Antarctic Survey's (BAS) three
winter stations:

Rothera Research Station on the Antarctic peninsula,
and King Edward Point and Bird Island on South Georgia and the South
Sandwich Islands. [...]

includes:

BBC Antarctic Midwinter Broadcast
The teams gather together at the end of the special day to listen to the
BBC Antarctic Midwinter Broadcast, a unique radio programme featuring
messages from friends,
family and supporters back in the UK. This year's edition is presented by
BBC Radio 6
Music's Cerys Matthews and features interviews with Professor Dame Jane
Francis,
Director of BAS and Nadia Frontier, a marine biologist from BAS and former
winterer.

The BBC Antarctic Midwinter Broadcast will be transmitted at 21.30 GMT on 21
June

on shortwave frequencies: 12005 kHz, 13810 kHz and 7255 kHz.
You can also listen to the programme on the BBC World Service at 02.32 BST
on UK DAB and on BBC Sounds.

(Ascension relay - not being used)

Presume these are on air 2130-2200 UTC on 21st June (as tested 14th June)
though not yet included in BBC schedule?
A slightly shorter version of the programme is also aired 22nd June 0132,

registered this
evening (14 June 2023) 2130-2145 UTC to CIRAF zones 67 & 73 (Antarctica) so
presume these

are the usual tests ahead of the Midwinter's Day broadcast?
Can anyone at Woofferton confirm this, and also if there is still the usual
2130 UTC transmission on 21st June (as well as the three the BBC list
above)?

Frequencies per HFCC 14 June 2130-2145 UTC: 7255 Dhabbaya; 12005 Woofferton;

Deutsche Welle adds Arabic Shortwave Broadcasts to Sudan  View Printable Version

Subject: Re: [WOR] Deutsche Welle adds Arabic Shortwave Broadcasts to Sudan

Very good research! They have neither published a press release nor has there been other publicity so far, so this was indeed the only way to find out.

The PDF file is dated 19 June, suggesting that the broadcasts started this Monday. It's a revival after 13 or even more years, they took Arabic off shortwave in 2010 or even earlier if memory serves right (will look it up later). So this is indeed a surprise, particularly in the current situation of up to 300 job positions to go and linear TV in German to close.

(...) DWL would like to set a new focus on the Arab region. Television

director Christoph Lanz would like to expand his Arabic programme window

from three to six hours daily. However, there is no money for that - two

million euros per year. So for the time being, the Bonn-based company can

only expand its Arabic internet offering, especially with a view to Iran.

Azores FM stations were heard this morning (June 21, 2023) in Mashpee, MA. I presume by K4NBF, Bryce Foster. This was noted on DX Maps. I was listening on 87.7 mhz at the time and heard nothing. The morning started out with SSB stations from Europe being received on 50 mhz (6M). I talked to F4EZJ and F4ARU in France and heard EA (Spain) and CT (Portugal). Others did better. All the while my FM receiver was tuned to the Azores on 87.7. For the record I am 92 air line miles NW of Mashpee. E-skip is forever selective.
