Logs
** MADAGASCAR [and non]. 15440, Oct 15 at 1446, S Asian song S5/S9,
one of strongest signals on band: hardly anything lower. Stronger than
15590 CRI English Urumqi, 15770 WRMI; weaker than 15610 VOA Vatican
Kurdish and 15825 WWCR SSOB. 15440 this semihour is TWR Urdu via
Talata. I wonder if TWR play any secular songs in languages, or do
they have to be Christian? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2264 monitoring: confirmed UT
Tuesday October 15 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, S9/+5 into Durango2 SDR.

Also confirmed Tuesday October 15 at 1307 the 1300 on WRMI 9955, S9
direct; BTW, 9955 still on at 1440 check.

Also confirmed Tuesday October 15 att 2000 on IRRS SW via AM Italia,
1322.995, S7/S9 into UTwente, slight CCI, and from 1314 ACI. Next:

2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.

Thanks this week to John Spicer, ``You put your life into this and I
just wanted to say thank you for your efforts. I really enjoy your
show and the updates in print and radio`` with a contribution via
PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com

One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9955, Oct 15 at 0633, TOMBS via WRMI, S4/S5; now some weak
pulse jamming also audible from the incompetent DentroCuban Jamming
Command (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 660, Oct 15 at 0545 UT, L&C C&W, no doubt KTNN again on ND
50 kW day pattern (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 770, Oct 15 at 0546, `Red Eye Radio`, L&C, no doubt KKOB ABQ
NM. Reported to be on STA of ND 12.5 kW at night now. Does that mean
the Santa Fe night booster is now kept off?

"KOB, originally, should have known better than to locate its 50 kW
towers so close to an area which would eventually be filled with HABs
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)"

``Sometimes such decisions are a little bit better, but I still can't
fathom how, when they installed Carlsbad Caverns, they knew that a
parking lot would someday just happen to sprout there. Frank Merrill,
Jr`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 9960, Oct 15 at 0635, no signal from R. Vanuatu, nor on
7260, 7890, 11835. Ron Howard via remotes was hearing it on 3945
ex-9960 between 0915 and 1100 on Oct 14 but absent at 0415 Oct 15 from
all known frequencies. I believe 9960 was still on as of Oct 14 before
0700, not always logged but checked nightly (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 17665, Oct 15 at 1442, talk by YL in French? dumped off
air for a few seconds as I tune in direct, then back. And nothing at
1518 into UTwente. NOT listed for A24 in HFCC, EiBi or Aoki; nor in
HFCC for B24 - nothing ever on this frequency. However, a few hours
earlier today, Zacharias Liangas with a remote reported ``A signal
started on 0657 on 17665 with level -110 dbm`` (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs October 13-14-15, 2024  View Printable Version
Tuesday, October 15 2024

Logs
** CANADA. 28170 CW, Oct 14 at 2204, 10m beacon band really hopping,
also phone, too many to attempt logging much. Here is VVV DE VA3XCD/B
CAMDEN -- not bad for one sesquiwatt per WGB list: ``28170 VA3XCD/B -
Camden East ON CAN FN14nj - #0 (13 Oct 2024) Note: VVV de ID + Camden
East + grid - pwr 1.5w`` - see USA for a couple more (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** MEXICO [and non]. 800, Oct 14 at 0621, still distorted music QRMing
KQCV OKC, from XEERG NL (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 7475, Oct 14 at 0303, anti-Christ pirate, Station
YHWH, S9 but undermodulated and needs LSB tuning to avoid utehash on
upperside (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Mon Ont 14 at 2159, S9+30/40 direct, and stronger as
it should be than 17715 & 15520, token English from REE, 2200 preview
to be interview about a theatre which won a yearly National Award,
located in the Lavapiés [? wash-your-feet] neighborhood. No time to
listen further (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9875.004+, Sunday October 13 at 2047, VOT English starting
`Letterbox`, S9+15/25 into UTwente. I`m getting this early in case the
2200 on 11785 be AWOL, and even if not, conflicting with otherstuff I
want to get then. At first there is some CCI on 9875, presumably Korea
North but stops about 2050. That supposedly resumes at 2100 but not
noted then. Halil starts by saying we are entering spring - he means
fall as he is in the northern hemisphere, it`s getting colder, and his
name means Yellow Rock. 1) Otto Schultz, jokes as if nickname for
Ottoman, small handwriting of 7/26 report from somewhere in USA, also
listens to German service but can barely hear it, also several
reception reports in same letter. 2) at 2055, Miss May ???, Sichuan,
China. 3) at 2057, Dick/Richard King in England, hopes TRT will not
stop SW. Now there is rapid clicking QRM, OTHR? 4) at 2100,
handwritten from Shanyang Kan?, China, 2 reports, wants 2 QSLs. 5) at
2103, another one from same. 6) at 2104, Ricky Hein, South Dakota,
says he has no internet, no computer, got 11785 with 15111 SINPO!
wants program guide and QSL. 2107, out of time, goodbye and music not
program theme as I tune out.

11785, Oct 13 at 2200, weak signal pops on, visible at UTwente, but
soon gone, so another try-but-fail to North America. Something`s
always erroneous at Emirler.

7275, Oct 14 at 0258, IS & IDs in English, INTRUDER, S9+30/40 direct
but with LSB QRhaM. Presumably this final repeat succeeds.

11785.007-, Oct 14 at 2158, VOT IS & English ID, S9+30 direct; 2202
olds; 2215 music; 2217 `The Energy Agenda` starting with tolls one
year on, in Gaza and Lebanon, before getting into ME oil. 2231 into
UTwente when measured, S9+25. Recheck 2245 music. 2254 s/off as if
17620 at 1230 - something`s always awry at Ankara. Do all those
announcers have no idea the 1230 recording is repeated over and over?
2255 IS, 2256 restart IS with one German ID before 2256.6* chop.
Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28204 CW, Oct 14 at 2205, AJ4YN/B, among many beacons
audible now in big opening. WGB list: ``28204 AJ4YN/B - Chesapeake VA
USA FM16uo - #0 (03 Oct 2024) Note: VVV - Pwr 5w (Ex 28285.5)``. See
CANADA for another.

28250 CW, Oct 14 at 2206, KI6MTV/B, beacon not in WGB list, but
QRZ.com: ``KI6MTV USA flag USA, Michael R Hislop, PO BOX 121, SHINGLE
SPRINGS, CA 95682, USA - Hey, if you hear my beacon, (28.250 mhz) send
me a message. I would like to hear from you.  Don't forget to tell me
the location where you heard the beacon. Thanks, Mike`` - well, I
can`t send a msg since QRZ.com restricts email info to ham members
only (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2264 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
October 13 at 2000 on WRN Europe stream..

Also confirmed Sunday October 13 at 2157 the 2130 on SW Gold Radio,
Germany, 3975.003-, S9 into UTwente.

Not confirmed Sunday Oct 13 at 2330 on WRMI 7570 as that transmitter
is still off the air following H. Milton.

Confirmed UT Monday October 14 at 0041 the 0030 on WRMI 7780, S8/9+8
into Georgia SDR, S9+15/20 into Maryland SDR. It`s aimed WSW, so I
look for the KiwiSDR at McAllen TX but it`s missing. Besides TWR
Brownsville, which has always been poor, there is now one, NA5C
designated `Rio Grande Valley` but really at Encino TX, which is in
the middle of S Texas, about midway between McAllen and Alice to the
north, and midway between Zapata on the west, and the Gulf coast.

Confirmed UT Monday October 14 at 0301 on Area 51 via WBCQ, 6159.937,
S9+10 direct but VP vs noise level. 0327 into NH SDR, S9+10/20 on
6159.930 with RTTY 6164 ACI.

Confirmed Monday October 14 at 1958 the 1930 on SW Gold Radio,
Germany, 3975.003-, S9+8 into UTwente; 6160 unchecked. Next:

0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW;
1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?];
2000 UT Tuesday IRRS 1323-Italy;
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;

** U S A. 9475, Oct 14 at 2330, this WTWW is still off air; the other
transmitter dedicated to TOMBS is on 9930 now, and already around 1530
check. However, by 0214 UT Oct 15, 5085, the nighttime counterpart of
9475, is on the air as well as 5920 counterpart of 9930. A while ago,
George was announcing that 9475 would be running Pastor Pete Peters at
3-5 pm CT daily = 20-22 UT, but if so, one would expect it to stay on
with something until QSY time at 0100 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 660, Oct 14 at 0311 UT, song with lyrix I can`t comprehend,
so in Diné/Navaho? soon ID as ``KTNN, Window Rock - Tohatchi -
Shanto``. Must again be cheating on ND 50 kW day pattern, but kudos
for the frequent shameless IDs. The third town alternates among
various places in or near the Res. Then a regular C&W tune. This time
some CCI in English, probably TX or NE not NY (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 770, Oct 14 at 0620 UT, `Red Eye Radio`, surely KKOB; NRC AM
Log shows only one other RER on 770 but a daytimer + FM in AL. KKOB`s
FM is not a translator on 96.3, originally the domain of classical
KHFM, where I worked while at UNM 1965-1968.  I also recorded there a
weekly Hometown news summary for AFRTS. What a comedown to farright
hatetalk (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1152.1 kHz, Oct 14 at 0316 UT, carrier/het again. Anyone
else hearing this? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

THE TINY TRAP

Europa is a ``tiny moon`` about mission to find water, maybe life, Oct
14 at 1810 UT on MSNBC, report by Tom Costello. Yet it may contain
twice as much water as Earth -- tiny?!?

Sunday, October 13 2024

Logs
** COLOMBIA. 10125 CW, Oct 13, 2024 at 0558-0606, the ``keyboard
alfabet`` station is back! My nightly routine has including
bandscanning from 8900 to 10125, since 10125 occasionally catches
Aussie hams in USB phone instead of CW; and also the keyboard station,
not heard for ages, and supposedly quit because license expired and
was not renewed. It`s exactly the same thing he was sending over and
over last year, including signature errors! ``QWETYUIOIX ASDFGHJKLÑ
ZXCVBN VVV DE HK3QQ BOGOTA COLOMBIA`` or starting with VVV. NOTE that
R is omitted, P is missent as X, and M is also omitted. My previous
significant logs, all FROM YEAR 2023! starting here with last time
previously heard:

2023:
** COLOMBIA. 10125 CW, Sept 26 at 0607, HK3QQ on again with
keyboard-letter-sequence beacon. Could not copy X instead of P after
O, so maybe deleted if not corrected (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

2023:
** COLOMBIA. 10125 CW, April 20 at 0635, once again the strange
station sending keyboard letters slowly in sequence: ``QWERTYUIOX
ASDFGHJKLÑ ZXCVBNM`` and then much faster: ``VVV DE HK3QQ BOGOTA
COLOMBIA`` --- note the error? of X instead of P, like reversed dits
and dahs? And the Enye after L; maybe that`s where it lies on a
Spanish keyboard. QRZ.com:

``HK3QQ Colombia flag Colombia, Jesús Ernesto Reyes Castro, Bogotà
111156, Colombia
Escuela de telegrafia Marconi ilustrado - Colombia
Frecuencia: 7.070 CW
Beacom VVV De HK3QQ Bogotá Colombia 5W``
Previous logs of this filed under UNIDENTIFIED (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WORLD OF RADIO 2187){still same info in QRZ.com as of Oct 13, 2024}

2023:
UNIDENTIFIED. 10125 CW, April 17 at 0626, series of letters between
long pauses. I soon realize it`s reading off a standard keyboard: A S
D F G H J K L --- Then faster VVV DE --- and I don`t copy any ID. Then
resumes with: Q W E R T Y U I O --- Is this default of some software,
or done deliberately? This is of course in the so-called 30m hamband
as I am listening for VKs on phone in this area (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 11860 & 11930, Oct 13 at 0552, pulse jamming against nothing,
R. Martí frequencies never on air at night, duh! So altho RHC can
barely get two frequencies defectively on air, the greatest priority
of jamming nothing survives! Std remark about undernourished Cubans
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. Re: "More importantly, where`s XEW? Remember when it
owned 900 at night, 250 kW? IRCA Mexican Log 2024 says it`s 24h
100/100 kW still on AM; but current mwlist and consequently WRTH 2024
still claim 250 kW, and another Mex on 900, 10/2.5 kW, XEOK Amor
Monterrey, which is totally missing from IRCA Log (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)"

Tim Hall replies: ``I checked my notes and found that XEOK turned off
their AM on or before May 2020. A listener in Monterrey reported the
shutdown of the AM to one of the many Mexican radio Facebook groups
that I follow as I try to keep the Mexican Log up to date.`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ROMANIA. 11960 AM, Oct 13 at 0553, English talk about Timishoara,
must be RRI; it`s the SSOB at S5/S9, hardly anything else on 25m
beyond JBA carrier from France 11700. HFCC lists this as 90 kW at 300
degrees only for WEu from Galbeni:
https://new.hfcc.org/data/schedbybrc.php?seas=A24&broadc=RRO
These versions refuse to show what`s DRM and what`s AM, but reduced
power is dead giveaway that it`s supposed to be DRM; master frequency
list does mark it N for DRM. But it`s NOT! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SCOTLAND [non]. 7730, UT Sun Oct 13 at 0100, `Encore` classical
music hour from R. Tumbril via WRMI; is 44 degree beam, so best
remotes for it are in Maryland, S9+5, and slightly better Georgia at
S9+10. This airing is supposed to be on System F, 5850 only, but
that`s one of few transmitters still not recovered from Hurricane
Milton, so I check 7730 on a hunch, as skedgrid used to show
5850//7730 on same system during this hour but was wrong. Sked now
claims System L at 0100 UT Sunday on 5950 // 7730 with `Pop Shop
Radio`, but that`s really on 5950 only (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2264 montoring: NOT confirmed
Saturday October 12 at 2300 on WTWW 9475 - never came on air unlike
last weeks when popped on just in time.

Confirmed UT Sunday October 13 at 0000 on WRMI 9955, S9+20 with
flutter into Pardinho, Brasil SDR.

Confirmed UT Sunday October 13 at 0429 about 5 minutes into so the
nominal 0315v started very late about 0424 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO,
S9+17 groundwave to nearby remote.

Confirmed Sunday October 13 at 1900 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1322.995,
VG S9+8 into UTwente across Europe. Next:

2130 UT Sunday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2330 UT Sunday WRMI 7570 to NW;
0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW;
0300vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW [irregular];
0830 UT Monday SW Radio, Germany 6160 [resumed];
1930 UT Monday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW;
1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?];
2000 UT Tuesday IRRS 1323-Italy;
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;

** U S A. 770, KKOB, tower down by balloon hit: looking at video over
and over about that, something strange. The tower collapsing appears
to be very much in the background compared to the two balloons in the
foreground, as if one of them could not really have brushed it; false
perspective?

As for 770 being off the air, I have yet to see any timeline of
exactly what happened, but: maybe knocked off the air immediately when
tower fell, but it`s the DA tower not in use in the daytime; so if
remained on air, probably turned off shortly for evaluation of
situation and then back on (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Zacharias LiangasFrom now and for an unknown time, at least for 3 years, I will not use anyradio except the remote SDRs for DXing.
