BBC Singapore/Oman  View Printable Version
Sunday, June 25 2023

HCDX

The latest HFCC registration file dated 21 June 2023 shows some new Oman frequencies for the BBC starting on 15 July. They appear to be planned as replacements for transmissions that currently come from Singapore, which would somewhat support recent rumours about a pending closure of the Singapore relay site. The Singapore registrations have not been modified (their end date is still given as 29 Oct), but that may happen later.

New Oman frequencies starting 15 July:
9550 1700-1900 Dari and Pashto, possibly replacing the Singapore outlet currently on 11735
11685 1300-1400 English, currently in use by Singapore
11995 1400-1700 Dari and Pashto, currently in use by Singapore
17515 1330-1400 Burmese, possibly replacing one of the Singapore outlets, currently on 7465 and 9585

The remaining registered Singapore frequencies are not affected (yet).

Looking for a decent Software VOX recorder  View Printable Version
Sunday, June 25 2023

HCDX
Expanding my horizons in Masset, I've added a RSPdx to the mixture of
remote receivers that I have there. The beauty of the RSPdx is it's wide
spectrum including the FM band. I added a nice Yagi antenna, courtesy of
Patrick Martin from Seaside OR. Initially, I had it up about 25 or 30 feet
off the ground, and rotating it, I was pleased to receive 3 or 4 Ketchikan
stations (about 150 km to the north), 5 or 6 Prince Rupert stations
(slightly closer to the east), and the 3 CBC outlets on the Islands, as
well as very low power translators of commercial stations in Masset.
Mostly, though, the band is pretty empty, which makes for the possibility
of receiving meteor scatter and e-skip on FM.
I've experimented with leaving the squelch out and just recording for
hours on-end, and indeed, signals do come in for a few seconds at a time,
but this is very tedious. Alternatively, I've tried squelch and feeding
the signal into my Total Recorder Pro. Unfortunately, this otherwise great
software for recording does not have a VOX option, so this means scrolling
(actually clicking) 30 second intervals over up to 24 hours of recording to
locate those tiny spikes in signals. There has to be a better way. Does
anyone have any suggestions regarding a good VOX (voice activated)
recorder...software that is? Also, are there any groups out there
devoted to e-skip and meteor scatter FM DXing?

73, Walt

WRMI special transmission  View Printable Version
Saturday, June 24 2023

HCDX
Dear DX friends,

On Saturday, June 24 at 21.30-22.00 UTC and on Sunday, June 25 at 04.00-04.30 UTC, WRMI - Radio Miami International will broadcast an archival program dedicated to the 48th annual European DX Council (EDXC) Conference held in St. Petersburg in September 2015. The frequency is 15770 kHz. EDXC-2015 Conference was organized by the St. Petersburg DX Club, a full member of EDXC, and was held in Russia for the second time (the first time also in St. Petersburg in 2006). The program in Russian was prepared by Radio Liberty and based on materials offered by St. Petersburg DX Club and aired on the waves of Radio Liberty at the end of September 2015. It deals with almost all aspects of DX hobby.
Please, if possible, drop a couple of lines on the reception quality. Not in the form of a standard report, but simply: place of reception, time, signal strength (or SIO) to dxspb@nrec.spb.ru or/and spbdxclub@gmail.com.

73! Alexander

Commentsappreciated in the below text: I  also interested to know in  whenNexus is lowering their power
1323  Glenn Hauser’s WOR program on 2003 after amysterious ID of CJBK 1290 with interesting catches of DX news and logs fromthe previous (?) week . mwlist shows  to IRRS Italy as the only possiblestation in the band at 5/1 kW I can suppose this is only 1 kW https://youtu.be/xAUlQPpj3kU

ΟΝ 20th  again heard them with same level with a program referring to theUnited  Nations on 2011.  June21tested on 2058 with a Italian song on 2059  then OM saying that theprogram will sign off .  Program continue with news from an Americanstation , Tuned in 2111 with nosignal. The same on22 with 2111*.   June23 checked again beingaudible after Romanian Targu Mures singed off 19. They [TM} areairing a Hungarian program on 17-18 and a German – Neumarkt 18-19 with a signalS6-7 max nearly the same level  with the 1332 from Romania

Better reception can be done with a radio and a tunedMW loop as the AN200 Texun  with fair levels in Retziki SKG

Just little checking with kSDRs found that Italia AMhas fair signal nearby N Italy and lowering  in longer distances  andagain heard in N Germany at best.  In France and towards north Smooth R isheard  instead of IRRS  A more accurate check with signal trackingshown  s/off 210050 via a ‘nearby’ kSDRleaving smooth R
