6000, 6060, 6100, 6165 nor of course any leapfrog mixing products.

** CUBA. 13700, Oct 4 at 1447, RHC is back, S9+10 and no spurs; also
11760 S8/S9; 15140 S9 but undermodulated, suptorted; 15230 S9 just
barely modulated; at 1453, 9710, S4/S7 undermodulated. If sites remain
same as in EiBi & Aoki, these account for all three: 9710 Bejucal,
15230 Quivicán, in between, all Bauta (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9439.995, Oct 4 at 2147, R. Cairo, English extremely
distorted at S9+35 into UTwente. Doubly incredible: that they can`t or
won`t fix it; and yet don`t just leave the transmitter off, which is

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Oct 4 at 0634, JBA carrier from R. Kiribati.
Nothing else on 9/kHz splits, any lingering TAs propped out. Gary
Pence, KM5X, reports: ``Hi Glenn, I checked 846 at 0445z, not on yet;
checked again 0525z, it`s on now. At NH6XO`` [Hawai`i remote] (Glenn

** NIGERIA [non]. 7255-, Oct 4 at 0629, no signal direct from VON. At
1735, no signal into Spain SDR, just JBA on-frequency carrier from
Tibet. 1819 not even that, nothing at all except storm noise over

** OKLAHOMA. 515 MCW kHz, Oct 4 at 1445, PN, 25-watt ND beacon at
PoNca City, reactivated, as my loudest near-local signal, moreso even
than 341 EI, EnId. PN was first noted OFF as of August 23. It`s had
similar outages before, always coming back, so far (Glenn Hauser,
Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 15520, Oct 4 at 2030, REE manages to modulate the ME
transmitter for the fourth day in a row, stupid ballgame provoking
irrational enthusiasm (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830.021, Oct 4 at 2201, still no signal into UTwente other
than JBA China. Cuts on at *2208, JIP news, with horrible squeal,
autonotch not helping much, but bandwidth too narrow at 2.61 kHz
escapes it, but not also some hum. I shall not listen any further.

Tuesday October 4 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, reactivated a few hours ago,
S9+10 into Maryland SDR, some rapid clicking QRM. At 0046 check
direct, also S9+10 somewhat undermodulated.

Confirmed Tuesday October 4 at 2230 on webcast of WRMI but 9955 still
not back on air. At least 9395 is again in use, next:

From FB circa 19 UT Oct 4: ``It's been very slow-going in the antenna
field today. Trucks are getting stuck in the mud, and we have to buy
special tires to get them back into the field. We will probably not
have any more frequencies back on the air today (Tuesday), but
hopefully by tomorrow. 5950 and 9395 are still on 24 hours, and our
Internet stream as well. Several of the programs on WRMI have done
interviews with us about the situation, and we appreciate them helping
to let the audience know what's going on. Today we did interviews in
English and Spanish for RAE Argentina to the world, and in English for

transmitter for the third day in a row, in Arabic, JBA into Maryland
SDR with degraded propagation but S6/S8 into Kuwait. WWV at 1500:

** TURKEY. 9830.021, Oct 3 at 2225, ``The Healing Screen[?]`` is
subtitle of `Feeling Supreme` per outro at 2228. It was about what to
eat to deal with stress. With horrible squeal, some hum, S9+45 into
UTwente. It was *not* on when first checked at 2200, just weak China
with timesignal at 9830.003. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler.

OK, still on; JBA under is DNI, Denison TX - not now nor lately do I
detect the other nearby 341, OIN, Oberlin KS. Wonder if it be off? RNA
Signals List at rxx.classaxe.com says: ``Last Logged 2022-08-14; Don
T. noted off air September 10, 2022``. Before that, the 25-watter was
heard as far away as BC, QC, NS, FINland (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2158 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
October 2 from 2000.5 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, Villa
Estense, Italy, S9+5/15 into nearby Noale SDR, but with heavy fast SAH
from some understation, can`t discern the language. Not on 918 but
something else weak; 207 nothing but noise.

Confirmed UT Monday October 3 at 0030 on WRMI 5950, new time
fortunately on the only transmitter as yet reactivated, S9+10/20 to
Georgia SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday October 3 starting late at 0322 on WBCQ Area
51, 6159.937, S9 into Maryland SDR. Johnny Lightning seemed to finish
by 0301, but RNI ID and more. ``Seems a lot like Xmas`` tune, and talk
segment, anti-Trump? But attributed to iHeart Radio, until 0322 WOR
playing until 0351, followed by unrecognizable stuff, maybe fragment
of HRI which was supposed to be at 0330, but not a new one produced
every week, so expendable?

Looking up something else on Aoki currently dated Sept 29, I am
astounded to see an entry for WOR, et al.:

inadequate in the daytime but glad to have something back on. On FB
circa 14 UT Oct 3:

``Restoration efforts continue today at WRMI. Engineers were trying to
fix the transmission lines for transmitter 5 (9455 kHz) this morning,
but the ground is very wet, muddy and swampy, and two trucks have
become stuck in the swamp. So they are going to try to get the
transmission lines fixed for transmitter 6 (9395 kHz) next. So far we
still have only 5950 kHz on the air, and it's on 24 hours per day. Our
Internet stream with the 9955 kHz programming is also operational
(www.wrmi.net).

These photos will give you an idea what we are dealing with as many of
these poles that carry the transmission lines out to the antennas are
seriously leaning or down altogether. They have to be put back up and
reinforced so that the transmission lines are off the ground
again.``

Dear Friends and Clients: We got another frequency back on the air
today. At 1945 UT we were able to put Transmitter 6 (9395 kHz) back on
the air. The process of repairing the transmission lines in the
antenna field is going rather slowly due to the extreme muddy and
swampy environment. But our crew continues to work in these conditions
to get everything back on the air. We hope to get 9455 kHz back on
tomorrow if all goes well, and then we'll work on others. We'll keep

back on air so far, to run 24 hours. Same time WOR has been sked on
7780 not yet re-available. Still shows imaginary time canceled months
ago, Sat 1930 on 15770.

5950 chex: Oct 2 at 1413, no signal direct: ought to be at least a JBA
carrier over day path. At 1506, Georgia SDR is getting S8/S9 of dead
air carrier, music added by 1517. 1530 a `Mighty Fortress` church
broadcast starts as connexion breaks. Big change: R Africa Network at
15-21 on silent 21525 is now also on 5950 - not that that has any
chance of reaching Africa over daypath. 1559 YL ID claims to be on
21525 - what does she know? 1600 `The Bible Answers`.

signature split, S9/S8 carrier but can`t make out any modulation.
First noted as big het upon 5950 WRMI, both via UTwente. Meshes with
this on the WOR iog a few hours before: ``Lucio Otavio Bobrowiec - Hi
all, On 5952 since 2158, that het which must be R. Pio XII but nothing
audible until 2248, 01/10. Was some weeks silent. 73 Lucio

** CHINA. 15600, Oct 1 at 2219, music and talk eventually recognized
as Spanish: CRI to S America direct from Beijing site, 500 kW at 318
degrees, i.e. heading NW across Siberia, Europe, Atlantic, a long way,
but both short and long paths are extensive. SE over the Pacific would
avoid auroral zone absorption. Antipodes of Beijing is near Bahía
Blanca, Argentina. Rapid RTTY on the plus side, evitable by LSB tuning

on The band: 6923 USB, 6930 USB, 6955 USB and 6960 USB. I stay on the

StillWater. Last time heard was June 8 in daily chex, day and/or
night. Has had protracted absences before. No telling whether back to
stay now for a while. Classaxe says 50 watts, dxinfocentre says 25.
It`s JBA, much weaker than used to be, so maybe even less now (Glenn

95.7 KXLS, very strong but now with big het from a spoiler carrier
equally strong on 27185.8. Pick one or the other by LSB/USB tuning.

At first I thought he said HP9TWY as in Panamá, accent not Spanish,
but we know a lot of expats are radicated there; then mentions local

German 2351 with song, now S9+55, when max volume on SDR plus locally
are not too much to overload. Chopped off air at 2352.8* depriving us
of another extra hour in Brazilian, shux. Something`s always erroneous

** U S A. 15730, Sat Oct 1 at 2049, VOA Grimesland in Hausa, S9+20;
also on 15185 with English lesson, S9+35. I wondered whether remnants
of Ian would blow any VOA or OCB off, but did not get them checked

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2158 monitoring: confirmed Saturday
October 1 at 1929, right on time, at WA0RCR, 1860 AM, Wentzville MO,
S9+15 into nearby Warrenton KiwiSDR.

Also confirmed UT Sunday October 2 at 0322 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM again,
S9+18 same but noisy, about 11 minutes into so started circa 0311.

Note that the next chance when WRMI hopes to be back on air would not

** U S A. The latest from Jeff White: Sent: Saturday, October 1, 2022,
10:25:14 PM GMT+1

Friends, Colleagues and Clients: Our frequency of 5950 kHz has just
come back on the air at 2100 UT Saturday. We will keep this frequency
on the air 24 hours per day until we get more transmitters on the air.
It has been a slow process of repairing the transmission lines in the
muddy swampland. We do not expect to have any other frequencies on the
air until Monday. Probably the first ones to go back on the air Monday
will be 9395 and 9455 kHz if all goes well. Then we will gradually
bring all of the others back as the transmission lines are repaired.
Our Internet stream has continued to operate during and after the
storm, mostly with 9955 kHz programming. Thanks for your patience and
understanding, and we will keep you updated.

** U S A. 5950, Oct 2 at 0100, Texas R Shortwave on the only WRMI
frequency restarted yet. I`m trying it on the UTwente SDR where it`s
amazingly strong, S9/+10, for an azimuth of 355, about 50 degrees away
from head-on to Europe. Wonder if askew or really on same antenna as
before the storm. Also with het from 5952+ which has to be BOLIVIA,

** U S A. 7489.93, Oct 2 at 0033, WBCQ with rock music show, `Cruisin`
the Decades`, S9/+10 into Georgia SDR. NOT on the website program
schedule, rather `AAAWWW`, which I was going to check shortly for the
part I missed last night as Allan was calling out to me. Par for the
course with never-up-to-date sked. If it can be believed, next chance
for `AAAWWW` should be Monday after 2200. This `Cruisin`` is nowhere

LRA36 for Saturday repeat of Wednesday; favorite Argentine SDR is
offline so I have to try others in Argentina, Uruguay, later Brasil.
*1449.8 cuts on with songs, S6 into Uruguay, S3 into Argentina. By
1504 the Esperanza themesong is playing. 1507.5 intro talk; 1508
intermittent music QRM off-frequency, never on for long enough to
nail it on 15470, 15475 or 15480, probably local SDR mixture or
overload with ham emissions. 1509.5 song; 1514 chat; 1522 song; 1530
YLs chatting with OM guest, keeps on going. Really too weak to follow.
After 1605 I`m mainly listening to `The Score` on KUCO, but weak S3/S4
JBA LRA36 still detectable, 1611, 1619, 1631, 1638; surprise fades up
about 1645 to S6/S7 into Montevideo; still on past 1700, unusual: 1704
song now peaking at S9+5, last detected at 1711. Just as well, as
various SDRs have been timing out (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 382 MCW kHz, Oct 1 at 0352 UT, dash and YPL, 1000 watt NDB
at Pickle Lake ON. Nice to hear again as I still have a neighborhood
noise peak roughly 360-420 kHz. Last logged Sept 5, 2021.

351 MCW kHz, Oct 1 at 0353 UT, dash and YKQ, 500 watt NDB at
Waskaganish/Fort Rupert QC. I was tuned to 352 USB, somewhat avoiding

** CHINA [and non]. [WOR] Cross-cultural opera from China --- Now
underway in the traditional Saturday afternoon opera time, in Met
off-season. As heard here via KUCO FM, WFMT network is presenting a
Beijing produxion of Lehár`s The Merry Widow -- beautiful tunes even
if you think you don`t like opera. The arias, or some of them, are in
German, not Hungarian or English; while spoken passages are in
Mandarin, like at 1805 UT in the 2nd act. It would be too difficult to
translate to Chinese and still fit the metre. All but one cast members
have Chinese names. This just switched to German. It seems the NCPA -
National Center for Performing Arts, is dedicated to introducing

something on CNN, better catch its original airing, as no telling what

** U S A. The latest from Jeff White, WRMI on FB as of 1740 UT Oct 1:
``Hurricane damage repair is going full speed here in Okeechobee
today. Engineers Pat Travers and Don Frish are in the field repairing
the transmission lines, and we hope to have the first transmitter back
on the air by the end of today if all goes well. The first frequencies
to come back will probably be 5950, 9395 and 9455 kHz. In the photo
here you can see the extensive damage to one of the antenna towers
that snapped in the middle and buried itself into the ground.`` (Glenn

** VANUATU. 7260, Oct 1 at 0630, VON check finding it missing from
7255, but now a signal here where there has not been any at this hour.
I bet it`s R Vanuatu finally reactivated. Talk does have that Bislama
cadence, S3/S4 past 0637 and no signal on 14520 = x2. At 0648 ``island
music``. I really don`t want to stay awake any longer but manage to do
so until this cuts off at 0700, and by 0705 I find signals back on
3945 harmonix: 7890 = x2, JBA carrier, and 11835 = x3 with music at
S7. So it`s back to ``normal`` since it disappeared on Sept 16 -
except the QSY time is one hour later instead of 0600.

I figured Ron Howard would also catch this: ``Oct 1 observations:
Radio Vanuatu (news & sports 0658-0714 UT) returned to their normal
frequencies: 0620-0659* UT on 7260 and *0659 on harmonics 11835 //

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Oct 1 from 0339
UT, when the continent is still in darkness: 531, 549, 585, 612,
639-2, 657, 684, 693, 747, 774-2, 855-2, 882, 891, 909, 999, 1044,
1098, 1107-3, 1125, 1296, 1305. Usual technique, USB upstepping by 9
kHz tuned to frequencies 1 kHz below, to detect any 1 kHz hets. This
time I reverse the process on LSB 1 kHz above, in case some be
obscured by NAm even channels, but only get one more which is usually
easier: 621. -2 means at least 2 carriers beating; -3 at least three.
Many of these can be correlated with likely Algeria, Spain, UK, etc.
