Saturday, January 14 2023
** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Jan 14 at 0723, JBA carrier from R. Kiribati (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** KOREA NORTH. 9875, Jan 14 at 0722, S7/S9 of distorted music, very brief announcements, cannot recognize language, past 0732, something from ME? No, Aoki & EiBi agree it has to be VOK in Russian at 0700-0900 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. Now that it`s too late for this week`s FRW, any pirates to be heard direct, January 14 at 0306-0308 UT Saturday? 6935 AM, Jan 14 at 0306, pirate music S6/S7. These say B Side Radio: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,108112.0.html 6960 AM, Jan 14 at 0307, JBA carrier. These say Ball Smacker Radio: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,108116.0.html ``We are simulcasting 300W 4030AM and 200W 6960AM.`` 4030 AM, Jan 14 at 0308, YL talk and music, S8/S9 with het on plus side. Last log here had Ball Smacker Radio on this late, and more: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,108114.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2173 monitoring: by surprise a bonus? webairing on Area 51, UT Sat Jan 14 at 0108-0137 but not on SW, as below. Confirmed UT Saturday January 14 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, S9+20/35 into Missouri SDR. Also confirmed UT Saturday January 14 at 0500-0529 on WBCQ Radio Angela, S8/S9 into Maryland SDR with some storm crashes; quite a lightning line out in the Atlantic from Bahamas NNE toward Maine. Radio DX, NORFOLK ISLAND has been testing with 200 watts on 5045. At 0818 Sat Jan 14: ``Good signal in NZ with Glenn Hauser's World of Radio, recorded January 12th I think, so right up to date! Bryan Clark, Mangawhai - NZ``. Was also going to test at 1700-1830 for Europe. Also confirmed Saturday January 14 at 1700 on WRN North America webcast. Not confirmed the 2030 UT Sat Jan 14 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+20, and Israeli interviewing a South Australian winegrower and ham still past 2100; into nearby remote. {too late to fix on WOR, Ken Zichi corrects his frequency range for CODAR including Morse code IDs: 4450-4475 like the other reporter, not 7450-7475} Next: 2030vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM 2230 UT Saturday WRMI 5850 to NW, 15770 to NE [NEW]; 7730? 0030 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to SW 0400vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0415; as late as 0530] 2100 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW 0400vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW 0130 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated. Thanks this week to Benn Kobb, DC for a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com - in US funds but not necessarily. One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid, OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Monitoring `AAAWWW` on WBCQs, UT Sat Jan 14 from 0100, very confusing situation. Started tuning at 0058 hearing the tail end of the `FKB` gospel huxter with 3265.167 already on, S6/S8 into Maryland SDR, and // 7489.928 which is his normal only frequency at 0000 UT Sats. 3265+ is always way off/frequency+ whenever turned on, one hour a week? Then at 0100 I`m trying to listen via the (7490) webcast, which fires an ID but then some other music, not `William Tell Overture` theme. Back to SW: at 0101, WTO is playing on 6159.936v. Then I check the (6160 Area 51) webcast, and it is still playing music other than WTO. Then I`m forced to listen on SW only, 5129.996 slightly better than 6160v better than 7490v; Allan opens as on ``5130, 6160, 3265`` as well as 7490; fiddling with levels. Angela is ``there`` on a remote lo-fi phoneline. During the hour we hear very little from her as more inconvenient for her to interrupt his monologs. For Allan is in Master Control, Monticello, first time in a long time. Starts to give top frequency as 7415 which was changed years ago to 7490. 0105 takes a call from Larry Will, who informs him that the webcasts are not working and 6160 reception for him in MD is poor. As far as Allan can tell, everything is OK, the show audio going into the webcasting inputs -- but Larry and I know better by axually monitoring them. To my great surprise, the new WORLD OF RADIO 2173 starts playing at 0108 on the Area 51 webcast only, straight thru to 0137, no ID and then starts some music. This could hardly have been accidental: a bonus from Larry? AAAWWW continues to be audible only on SW transmitters. Allan has been explaining SW propagation, how fluorescent lights work, blue light being bad for you; until 0136 announcing as quadricasting from MC#1 in M`cello, on Friday The 13th, 2023, but I think he omitted the month. 0137 I recheck the (7490) webcast: now silent, no music but the timer is running. Says it`s snowing in Maine, while Angela has been blanketting horses today, i.e. still stuck in chilly Fla. Then Allan talx about how for fun, he has been working on an Atwater-Kent radio a hundred years old, which worx after a few repairs. He was surprised to find that resistors were in the form of mere wires back then. 0147 prompts her for ``Angela`s Angle``, but she was not ready with anything. Nor have we heard any such regular prepared commentaries from her elsewhen. Allan asserts that inflation is much worse than the government figures. 0152 admits that `Financial Survival` has left WBCQ but continues elsewhere - WWCR, WRMI? So its M-F 21-22 UT hour on 7490 is now an Available Time Slot for something else or for F.S. to return. Meanwhile it`s being filled M-F, not just Wed before WOR, by JP`s old record show. 0153 spends more time than usual reading items from Free Radio Weekly just out, as when Harold edits on rotation, it`s prompt. Always has to mention Ball Smacker Radio as Angela`s ``favorite`` --- is she a bowler? Bowless? This goes on until 0159 high time for a prayer. Note that this week there was hardly anything political! No dissing of Democrats. No reference to ``our president``. Could they be realizing they have been delusional about T****? Too soon to tell. They run past 0200 Hal Turner time, but there is dead air past 0201 on 7490, 0202 finally music makes 7490 webcast come to life and match 7490 SW but still no Hal. 0204 switch to apparent Hal`s music as someone mutters, ``do it this way`` twice. 0205 Hal finally heard saying he is ``restarting`` so evidently some mixup on his end too - or he was depending on hearing himself on SW and/or web. Tuneout! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9455, Jan 14 at 0715, this WRMI at S9+20 is splattering badly to the lower side, audible as far down as 9220, peaking about 9422, and even QRMing 9330 WBCQ which I first suspected as source, but matched modulation peaks to 9455 on another radio. Notified Jeff 10 hours later (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU [and non]. 7890, Jan 14 at 0709, JBA carrier from 3945 X 2 Radio Vanuatu, while 11835 = 3 X 3945 achieves some sound at S4/S5. MUF is up with 13755 NZ booming S9+10/20! in Saturday night request show (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 2105 UT January 14

Saturday, January 14 2023
** CUBA. For those who may not have seen it, I have been intending to link to RHC`s obituary for Arnie Coro: https://www.radiohc.cu/en/noticias/nacionales/309905-prominent-cuban-journalist-and-professor-arnaldo-coro-antich-passes-away (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 5040, 6000, 6060, 6100, 6165, 10080, 11670, 12000, Jan 13 at 0720, RHC is OFF early from possible frequencies. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT. 9439.995, Jan 13 at 2133, still no signal of R. Cairo into UTwente, nor reported for almost a month; something`s egregious in Egypt. I may stop non-logging it now until and unless it upshow (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORFOLK ISLAND. 5045, Jan 13, Nick Hacko notified the WOR iog of another test of Radio DX bracketing local sundown, 0730-0830 UT. Direct, nothing yet at 0720, but JBA carrier detectable at 0724! No more than that here direct, 0735 recheck, so this time I`m listening via the Maui SDR, which others were using well two nights ago. At 0729, I can hear my voice with the ID recorded for original use last April. It`s S5/S7 into Maui with some storm crashes but Blitzortung does not show any major lightning areas closer than NSW and SE USA. IDs repeat a few in a row with pauses; 0731, woman singing hymn, ``Just a Closer Walk with Thee``. Parts of this also repeat several times. 0736, seems like lite CW QRM with VVVs. I see Gary Pence and someone in Sydney are also listening via Maui. Some breaks in transmission like 0740.7* to *0741.5; running-water QRM at 0742.7. At 0748, during an ID suddenly switches to SSB, so I switch to USB, but it`s soon back in AM. Nick said this was a defect of his transmitter. 0752, the hymn again, 0755 IDs, which I re-record before I go to bed. 0758, YL starts another song. 0818, my final check direct on R75 with E/W longwire, still JBA carrier vs S9 high local noise level. Presumably runs until about 0830. Many other reports of this in the WOR iog. Power 200 watts into vertical antenna (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** PERU. 4810, Jan 13 at 0723, JBA carrier, presumed R. Logos. Only chance to copy anything is by LSB tuning avoiding STANAG on plus side, but there is still weak CODAR QRM on minus side vs this signal too weak (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SCOTLAND [non]. 5850, UT Fri Jan 13 at 0230-0245, WRMI playing pop/rock/rap music, fill? instead of classical `Encore` still scheduled at 0200-0300. Notified Jeff White and Brice Avery: there was an error in the file name, repaired so further repeats will be OK (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, Jan 13 at 0722, JBA carrier, no doubt SIBC in 5025 Cuba sideband, boding well for the imminent 5045 test from Norfolk Island, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Friday January 13 at 2300, REE in tokEnglish, VG S9+10/20 into Maryland SDR, before news, previews that feature will be about the play `La Vida es Sueño` by Calderón de la Barca. A few minutes later it`s recording of press conference by the English-speaking director and stage designer, since they don`t do interviews` with consecutive English/Spanish interpretation back and forth: very competently done and could serve as a language lesson in itself. But I`m not very interested in the subject. It seems REE English leans heavily on the arts to talk about, such as theatre, music, painting, all of which lack something when they are only being discussed orally. Safer subjects, I guess, than politix or hard news about what`s going on in Spain. At outset I quickly checked the other frequencies into same SDR: 12030 for ME much weaker but second-best; 11940 for S America third and with an echo; 11670 for Africa still no signal. Just before 2300, 12030 was not // in some other language (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.001, Jan 13 at 2257, TRT is already on with IS, tough luck for BBC listeners, S9+35/35 into UTwente, but a bit undermodulated. At first I`m mainly listening to simulSPAIN, q.v. By 2313 during music, CCCCCCI from XJPBS, EAST TURKISTAN has hit it from the land of imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uighurs and other Moslems. 2320 filler plug ``The Voice of Tuerkiye, always by your side``, and then, not to be confused with `Weekly Commentary`, now `Weekly Analysis`, written by some professor, about conflicts in 2023 concerning Turkey, mainly war in Ukraine, implying that it`s being prolonged due to US aid --- well? Also focus on the Black Sea. 2324 suddenly dumps off the air uncovering XJPBS at S8+5/15. I attend to REE so not sure exactly when it come back; but at 2329 the CCCCCCI is worse making a pumping SAH of 3 Hz while UTwente now shows TRT +002 Hz high. 2333 the multi-lingual ID filler reel. 2335 `Feeling Supreme` - or is it `Healing Spring`? anyhow a repeat of how wonderful the kiwi fruit is. At 2343 I switch to the same Maryland remote used for Spainglés earlier, where TRT is not so solid, S8/9+12 but better ratio against the CCCCCCI, still some detectable SAH fading. 2350 `Did You Know That?` about significance historically of the number 7, and how two of the Seven Wonders of the World were in Anatolia. 2353 s/off with schedule, one run of IS to turnoff at 2354.7* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2173 monitoring: confirmed first SWBC, UT Friday January 13 at 0330 on WRMI 7780: as usual, JBA direct, S5/S8 vs noise level; sufficient S9/+10 into Maurice LA SDR. NOT confirmed Friday January 13 at 0830 on WRMIs: briefly scheduled here, but now `OTH Radio` hour heard on all three, 5010, 5850 and 7780 at 0812. Also confirmed Friday January 13 at 1533 the 1530 on WRMI 9955, S9 direct: pleased it`s on this week; 1545 displeased that 9955 has been turned off by now. We never know whether this airing will be on SW at all, usually not. Also confirmed Friday January 13 at 2130 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz but still no signals on 918 or 207 kHz; S9+15/20 into nearby Noale SDR, lite CCI causing a rippling SAH. Preceding American-accented discussion show chopped off by 2130 for ID and WOR. {too late to fix on WOR, Ken Zichi corrects his frequency range for CODAR including Morse code IDs: 4450-4475 like the other reporter, not 7450-7475} Next: 0130 UT Saturday WRMI 5850 to NW 0500 UT Saturday WBCQ Radio Angela 5130v to WSW 2030vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM 0030 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to SW 0400vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0415; as late as 0530] 2100 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW 0400vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW 0130 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated. Thanks this week Benn Kobb, DC for a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com - in US funds but not necessarily. One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid, OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU [and non]. 11835, Jan 13 at 0721, JBA carrier from R. Vanuatu X3, adjacent something stronger on 11830 in English: Aoki says BBC Ascension at 06-08 and it`s *jammed, i.e. not just Africa but for putting too much signal into China, where too many denizens now understand English. I don`t usually notice that when checking for RV. 13755 NZ is also JBA carrier now; T-P MUF depressed despite solar flux exceeding 200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 0050 UT January 14

** CUBA. 5040, Jan 12 at 0133, RHC is S7/S9 but JBA on fundamental, much stronger on mistuned harmonic 10080, S9/+10 in Spanish. Something`s always wrong at RHC. While 5025 Rebelde at 0134 is VG S9+20/30 failing to produce any 10050 harmonic (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 9965, Jan 12 at 0718, pulse jamming against nothing, since R. Logos, there`s the carrier but tuned in just in time to hear it go off at 0143.7*! Ron Howard replies to my previous report of Jan 11: ``Hi Glenn - Was listening at the same time as you on 4810 kHz; fairly prominent signal; running late(?); 0709-0736 UT; mostly with assumed religious songs/music(?) and heard the announcer a few times, but only briefly; poor reception with CODAR QRM. We`ve been wondering if the real WTWW, 5085, has a specific schedule. George McClintock tells me Jan 12: ``Glenn, 5085 every evening from 6 pm central to NOW 11 pm.`` = 00-05 UT, with Scriptures for America. 5085, Jan 12 at 0135, WTWW is S9+30/40 with SFA. Early UT Jan 13, George tells me that Xmtr #1 is now ready for service on 9475/5830 but unknown when may be activated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2173) ** U S A. 9348.90V, Jan 12 at 0722, S7 wobbling spur out of WBCQ-6 WLCR on 9329.95 which is S9+40, easily matchable audio of Brit-accented gospelhuxterism. Never heard such a problem before; and nothing to match on the minus side. In case it be significant, the separation is 18.95 kHz Meanwhile, a twit from the day before: ``Allan Weiner @AllanWBCQ · Jan 11 - Working on the big boxes. Superstation down, again, due to a faulty, digital time-delay-relay. So sick of this digital crap. Give me the good old mechanical stuff. We have old style TDR’s sill working after 60 years. 7490/6160/5130 kHz still chugging. All relay logicWORKS.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2173) ** VANUATU. 7890, Jan 12 at 0727, JBA carrier from R. Vanuatu, and even weaker JBA carrier on 11835, harmonix of 3945 which I never even try to hear this early; maybe I should (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0228 UT January 13

** CANADA. 2598 USB, Jan 11 at 0740 UT, roboYL voice in English with marine weather for south coast, east coast of somewhere, presumably Newfoundland. Good S9 signal; slightly weaker S8 on 2749 USB at 0742 Jan 11 same voice but presumably different forecasts for Nova Scotia area. Once again these are first scheduled broadcasts of a new day for early-rising mariners: 2598 from 0737 is VCP-4 Placentia with 3000 watts; 2749 from 0740 is VCO Sydney with 550 watts. Each shares time with several other stations, per Metarea IV in https://dxinfocentre.com/mb.htm (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 6165, Jan 11 at 0727, S9 of dead air, in English or Spanish? only RHC still on, where something`s always wrong (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NIGERIA. 7255-, Jan 11 at 0726, V. of Nothing, no signal from Abuja (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORFOLK ISLAND. 5045, Radio DX: unfortunately not a log by me, as it was on short notice while I slept on, but Nick Hacko reactivated this SWBC radio country January 11 to make some tests, again like last April employing the ID I recorded for him as well as some World of Radio excerpts. Thanks to his notifying the WOR iog about this, there was a flurry of reports by those awake from 0741 past 1045, hearing it direct or via remotes. Perhaps he will be doing this again in the near future. Not 5055 as some had expected; and be careful as there may be a Queensland station also on 5045 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** PERU. 4810, Jan 11 at 0729, JBA carrier vs heavy STANAG noise on 4810+. I`m always alert for anything here in my bandscans, since so few broadcasters are left on 60m, nothing detected for months at least in the nightmiddle. Suspected R. Logos, Chazuta, 1 kW, which as of WRTH 2022 deadline was double-daggered as inactive. TBM shows not reported since Sept 2022. No other BC stations now known anywhere, anywhen on 4810 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Jan 11 at 2305, token English from REE. Main feature by Hélena Rigobert is about a new modernized produxion of Purcell`s opera Dido & Aeneas opening Jan 17 in Madrid. Great music interspersed; 2318-2321 break for report from Lebanon correspondent about a church being completely vandalized by some Syrian. 2321-2330 fills with Act I of D&A, or part of it. VG S9+20/30 into Maryland SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 11 at 2300, VOT English, timesignal and news, S9+25/35 into UTwente but I`m mainly listening to simulSpain, q.v. 2330-2338 repeating `Weekly Commentary` about the CFA Franc; yesterday was placed much earlier in the hour. 2343-2349 another repeat, about the great kiwi fruit. See #4 below about title of this segment. This time I`m listening closely: could be ``Healing Supreme`?? Definitely a U between the S and P. 2352 s/off with sked, IS once to 2353* uncovering the CCCCCCI which had been underneathing all along. Alan Holder had replied to my logs: ``Hi Glenn, I hope you are in good health. I'm fine here at the moment. I always read your daily logs posted on the WOR io group site with much interest. I note that you are having difficulty in understanding some of the program names on VOT. Well, you are not alone, as I also have this problem (as I'm sure many others do). Some of the announcers have such thick accents, and this, coupled with signal fading, does not make for easy comprehension. Besides short wave, I have also listened carefully online and as far as I can make them out, here are some of the English program names: 1. Gripping Files 2. Turkey's Geo-marketed products 3. The 'Firsts' of Anatolia 4. Healing Spring {which I had concluded was `Feeling Supreme` -gh} The first title is a bit odd - probably translated from the Turkish word sürükleyici Either of the synonyms: intriguing, or fascinating might be more appropriate than gripping. Unfortunately they do not seem to have a native English speaker on staff. #4 Although nothing to do with the benefits of spring water, the program features the 'magical' healing properties of certain foods and other natural products. But I still think they could find a better title. You are right about the heavy accent of one of the lady announcers. And coupled with the constant fall and rise in intonation, I find listening to her delivery really annoying. Not wishing to be unkind, I really wonder why she was hired in the first place. Still no sign of the "Letterbox" program. The last edition was in August 2020 if I remember rightly. I think some of the announcers are working from home, as I can detect a "roomy echo" sometimes, instead of studio quality sound. All the best to you. Alan Holder, Isle of Wight`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non].
