** AFGHANISTAN [non]. 7495, Dec 30 at 0153, growing signal hinders
7490 WBCQ as heard S7/S9 via nearby remote in NH. This is R. Ashna via
KUWAIT from 0130 in Pashto to be followed by Dari at 0200-0230, so
also reaching far beyond and in wrong direxion (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Dec 31 at 0012, LRA36 with rock music,
S8/9+5 into Argentine SDR. Otherwise occupied, not checked earlier
this Saturday. 0013 outro program credits. 0014 too fast Morse code,
and sign-on! ``a partir de este momento``, multi-lingual RNASG ID,
starting playback of entire 6-hour broadcast? But for how long this
week? Walt Salmaniw first reported it at 2145 Dec 30, and other North
Americans were getting it direct. So am I at 0020 check but unusable,
S5 like the band noise level. Likely on air from before 1800 as usual
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ASCENSION. 21630, Dec 30 at 1620, extremely excited announcer and
crowd; must be a stupid ballgame, BBC relay wasting resources upon.
Probably also on 25900 from UKQOGBANI but JBA carrier (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** CHINA [and non]. 11565 & 11565, Dec 30 at 1621, two strong signals
colliding in Chinese, partly with music. It`s RFA Mandarin via TINIAN
and CNR1 jamming at 16-19 per EiBi (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, Dec 30 at 0722, RHC still on, S9+25/30 but just barely
modulated in English --- AND flanked by much weaker parasitic spurs
plus and minus 10 kHz with their own fading, circa S6/S7 on 5990,
S4/S5 on 6010, the upper not to be confused with slightly
off-frequency Brasil. This explains my unID 5990 carrier Dec 15 at
0458, when 6000 was also on but did not notice then a 6010 match. Must
be the transmitter once on 11850 in the tardes, always also flanked by
weak parasites on 11840 & 11860 -- and before that same except all 10
kHz higher. Recently, Wolfgang Bueschel also found such a triad 1 Hz
below 15220/15230/15240 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ETHIOPIA [non]. 15710.1, Dec 30 at 1617, S8/9+5 of algo talk, no
doubt the Saturday-only Moresh Voice of Amhara clandestine via RMI via
defective Issoudun, FRANCE transmitter, tho still missing from WRMI
website. It does show another one daily except Sundays at 1600-1630 on
17685, Amhara Radio International, but I didn`t check that in time
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 11514.9, Dec 30 at 1620, algo JBA direct, as we now
know is pirate Hikari FM from Arizona or Sonora. Not bad, of course,
if only 10 watts. He may be running this long hours, all day? Still
JBA carrier at 0021 Dec 31 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 90.1, KUCO FM, strange stuff, early Saturday Dec 30 which
I often check late and overnight when I`m awake: at 0655 UT, sounds
like ambient `space music`! So instead of usual `Overnights with Peter
Van De Graaf` syndicated from Chicago, is `Music from the Hearts of
Space` running later than scheduled 05-06 UT Sat?? No, soon outro for
`Beyond the Barrier`, but to continue for another hour on some
stations, which it does here after 0700! Another check at 1000, still
no PVDG but instead the video game music show, which is no longer on
the KUCO sked anywhen. I can`t remember the exact title and now can
find it nowhere, not even at publicradiofan.com

I see some other changes, Jahrwechsel already underway: `Feminine
Fusion` from WCNY has vanished, the show by a colleague of Marie Lamb.
Oops, there`s `Beyond the Barrier`, supposedly Saturday at 6-7 am CT =
12-13 UT, when I was asleep, rather than the time I really heard it.
Was KUCO automation totally off-timed?! Looks like `MFTHOS` has
competition or maybe successor? More about BTB:

BTW, last Saturday, KUCO dumped out of `Tannhäuser` from The Met, long
before the ~4.5 hour opera was really over, maybe fooled by an
intermission. I wasn`t trying to listen to it straight thru, but did
notice Lane Whitesell`s post-Met fill music show was already running
by 2130? UT; after quite a while, limped abruptly back to Met. Also,
once last week they couldn`t remember what day it was, instead playing
one of their own `Day to Remember` episodes a week old instead of

** OKLAHOMA. After noticing DTV signals from Tulsa area in with a
tropo boost, I scan FM on caradio and as expected, that market`s FMs
are also in solid on several frequencies, notably 92.9, but at 1840 UT
Dec 30 I hear a new? call in passing, KRQD, then Tulsa adstring. FCC
FM Query shows ex-KBEZ but no call change date. Axually it happened at
``midnight`` [before or after?] Labor Day Sept 4, 2023 as explained

Another new? twist, at 1859 UT, 106.1 ID as Twister and inviting
requests via app. That`s KTGX Owasso. I still miss classical KCMA
onceuponatime on 106.1. That went away in 1994y per glimpse of a Tulsa
World story before its paywall blox. Same frequency, but must be a
different Facility as FCC FM Query does not show KCMA calls as
predecessor to KTGX, rather KQLL in 1990-2009y (Glenn Hauser, Enid,

** OKLAHOMA. APRS map shows some area tropo enhancement morning of Dec
30, but do not get around to DTV bandscan until 1827 UT, when there
are several BAD signals, and one decoding nicely, RF26 with CBS
sports, i.e. KOTV 6-1, along with KQCW-SD on 6-2, News on 6 on 6-3.
But not for long. Rabbitears.info shows same trio also on RF19 and
RF30, neither making it now -- only 1 kW ERP and nowhere near Tulsa,
rather McAlester OK and Caney KS - but not separate calls? (Glenn

** PUERTO RICO [non]. Re my log of DDP on 391 kHz: ``Hi Glenn!
According to the RXX database at

eight Caribbean beacons have been logged in the past year. Of these,
ZDX on 369 kHz from Antigua and TAB on 323 kHz from Trinidad and
Tobago are the two most frequently logged after DDP on 391 kHz. With
the high noise levels at your QTH, you may have to wait for auroral

** TURKEY. 6125.004, Dec 30 at 0414, NO signal direct from VOT English
to N America. Something`s erroneous at Emirler. But recheck 0440 into
UTwente, now it`s on at S9+35/45 with same `Feeling Supreme/The
Healing Spring` as heard 5 hours earlier on 5960, foods good for lung
health. Same offset, likely same transmitter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [non]. 5960.000, Dec 30 at 2343 check via UTwente, no VOT,
probably AWOL entire hour; rather, nothing but S9/+10 Chinese from
XJPBS, EAST TURKISTAN, std denunciation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U K Q O G B A N I. 17745, Dec 30 at 1618, JBA talk from algo: per
EiBi it`s BBC Somali, Saturday only 1430-1730 out of Woofferton (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2223 monitoring: confirmed UT
Saturday December 30 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, S9+15/33 into Missouri
SDR.

Also confirmed Saturday December 30 at 1700 on WRN N America
webcast.

Lesley Illingworth, UK, reports to WOR iog at 1842 Dec 30: ``Shortwave
Radio from Winsen, Germany, 3975: Listening to CQ Serenade at 18:00z.
First they carried about 20min of ARN News, some Germany DX programe
following. At 18.30z suprisingly WOR with Glenn. Hope this will be a
permanent event. Listening via Twente. It seems like they have daily
repeats of the show. But nothing on their website concerning times. I
try to contact them tomorrow. Have a happy new year at your tuning
knobs, chaps. 73's Lesley`` --- news to me, gh!

remote with accurate calibration compared to WWV:

From 0100 I start listening to `AAAWWW` on 3265+ tho it`s also on 5

so really still in Deland of Fla. He wastes no time in diving right
into politix as in what needs to happen in 2024, and spot chex later
in the hour show nothing but heated delusional Trumpist political
ranting, against ``puppet`` Biden.

By 0153 I notice that 7490 is losing out to ACI from 7495, which is R.
Ashna, Kuwait in Pashto from 0130: at least as heard in NH.

At 0156 he finally chex the mail: a couple endorsing his POV. Pause,
and then a `negative` one from Jerry, pointing out that T**** says he
wants to be a dictator and admires other dictators past and present.
Altho this is patently obvious, A&A pooh-pooh that idea and deride
Jerry. They keep going overtime more than usual until 0203 JIP Hal

overnight and presumably overday too, leaving 60m even more of a vast
wasteland (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 346 MCW kHz, Dec 29 at 0736, dash and YXL, 500-watt NDB at
SiouX Lookout, Ontario, JB penetrates the S9 local noise level.

Thunder Bay, Ontario, also JBA mix from IC, 400 watts from Wichita KS

** CUBA. 4765, Dec 29 at 0453, R. Progreso, S9+20/30 but suptorted and
vs CODAR swirshes. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9439.995, Dec 29 at 2136, no signal direct in English from
R. Cairo sesquihour; something`s always amiss at Abis (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. First as UNIDENTIFIED: 11514.9, Dec 29 at 1530, JBA
music at S3/S4 direct. Still no other reports of this since my last
log Dec 25, so I check several remotes for it: nothing at UTwente,
Bandung, Qatar, nor Oita, Japan. In California the omni KFS gets it at
S6/S7, while inaudible on their NW antenna but agrees on offset
display of a trace; it`s JBA but I keep listening there to 11515 -96
Hz = 11514.904. Seems to be nothing but music, mainly soprano voice,
past 1700. By 1716, it`s a smidgen stronger, S7. Guess at Turkish
jammer vs Dengê Gel, but not that kind of music. Still same offset
into KFS at 1910, S7 now YL popsong in English. What is this???

Further chex, *still* audible on this off-frequency, at least into
KFS: 1957 hi-pitched YL voice speaking, English? mentions numbers?
goes past 2000 with no break. Next check 2147, still music S7/8. And
at 2306 really inaudible but KFS still synchs on 11515 -96 Hz.

Meanwhile I got replies on the WOR iog from Lucas Bandura: ``Hikari
FM, Arizona pirate. Moved from 11289.4 kHz`` and from Dan Robinson:
``Yes, operator of the former Pushka and Russian named station, now
Hikari FM was awaiting some equipment parts to make the move to this
frequency area``.

When first reported on 11289.4, I checked but never heard. I belatedly
check HFU for reports about this: on Dec 24 there were reports on
11520. A QSL of Dec 19 for 11289 said 10 watts and soon would be on
11520. Ex-6200 AM, where I was still alert for anything at night, but
nothing lately.

He once claimed to be just across the border from Arizona in NW
Sonora. That might discourage the FCC from seeking him, true or not

** PUERTO RICO. 391 MCW kHz, Dec 29 at 0441 UT, ND beacon DDP, with
longish pauses between repeats. That`s more like it, real DX, from San
Juan - Dorado. I still have plenty local noise on LW, but this gets
thru it. Last time logged was Dec 30, 2021, almost exactly one biyear
ago. DXinfocentre lists as 1 kW, RNA as 2 kW, a period of 10.14
seconds with 6-second pauses. It seems there are hardly any other
beacons still existing in the Caribbean, e.g. Cayman Islands 415 kHz.

** SPAIN. 9690, Fri Dec 29 at 2308, VG into Maryland remote, token
English from SNR, Justin Coe announces that he is retiring from SNR
after 33+ years. Besides the external service he has had programs on
several domestic RNE networx. Appreciates his colleagues, management,
unions; and especially listener Alan Roe for program publicity.
External service has shrunk to only 12 people covering all the
languages; English will continue by Amy Egan and Marilyn Quintana. We
had already been hearing very little from JC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.004+, Dec 29 at 2303, VOT is not off the
air, VG S9+30/40 into UTwente, excepts cuts off air for less than a
minute during news, back on first with dead air, then picking up. 2337
`Feeling Supreme/The Healing Spring`, topic foods good for lung
health, starting with apples, bananas. 2343 music. 2351 s/off with
totally wrong schedule +3 hours off. 2353 IS. 2354* chopoff uncovering
XJPBS, only S9+5/15 in Chinese from East Turkistan, land of
imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uyghurs and other Moslems (Glenn

** U S A. Wellbrook loop manages to audiblize some ND beacons vs local
noise level, not the shortwire, Dec 29 at 0432-0443 UT:

275, GUY - at first seemed MSY or MUY, but it`s merely GUYmon OK
326, MA, Midland TX
375, RU, - nothing listed or similar. RUE in Arkansas has been sending
only RU, but on 379. Did I notedown wrong frequency?

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Dec 29 at
0444-0450: 684, 711, 774-2, 837, 855, 882, 891, 999, 1089, 1107, 1269.
I normally run the R75 ``wide-open`` but this time with only Preamp 1
instead of 2, which may have helped marginally vs splash. 1269 is
unusual; per WRTH 24, biggestsigs are 100 kW Kuwait, 50 kW Iran (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 11550, Dec 29 at 1612, VOA Korean with heavy musical QRM
into UTwente, checking this after no 11514.9 unID. VOA on 11550 is
Saipan, at 15-19; // clear weaker 11510 which is Tinian at 15-17.
There may well be a third station on 11550, i.e. the Kurdo/Turco radio
war with VOA caused collateral damage (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

CUBA surprise, surprise,
this night Dec 30 around 00.45 to 01.45 UT noted
RHC Spanish sce, S=9+10dB signal,
some 4 Hertz on lower sideband of 9650 kHz, on
9649.996 kHz - likely Bejucal(?) gear - typical fqy offset-gear at 01.17UT,
appeared again after some weeks break recently, due of limited main
power(?) delivery on the embargo-suffer Latin country.

Bejucal is built up from 1965 ... year, Made in USSR, 50 and 100 kW
tx #1, 2, 6 or/and 9,
used in 2010 to 2020 era of Professor Arnaldo Coro.

RHC Bejucal 13x remained antenna table showed, of
#6 to CeAM/Panama/Ecuador azimuth,
230degr azimuth, for example 9535v kHz.

#31 to Antilles, Guyana 110degr, - formerly 7340, or 9640v, or 9710v kHz.

#27 to Brazil, ARG 135degr, 19 meterband ant, formerly 15370 kHz.
