Logs
Apologies: subject line omitted first try
** ALGERIA. 15140, Feb 27 at 0726, S4/S5 JBA carrier - first thought
it might be RHC afternoon frequency testing, English at 2000 not heard
for months - but EiBi shows Ifrikya FM, Ouargla on 15140 from 0700,
not in Aoki. At 0729 also have JBA carrier on 17600, the Béchar
frequency from 0700. Springish propcons starting to appear (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ASCENSION. 15490, Feb 17 at 0728, French at S9: BBC at 0700-0729
only (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. Was RHC 6000 on tonight? Did not check until 0407 and no
signal. Still greatly improved mod? (Glenn to WOR iog Feb 27)
Replies:

``Just heard them at 0510 in Spanish, but can confirm that there was
nothing an hour earlier. Last night I noted an abrupt cut at 0501:30
during English. Nothing heard for at least the next quarter hour. Tony
Pavick, BC``

Yes, very strong into Masset with Spanish programming and excellent
modulation. Walt Salmaniw, BC (05:10 UTC)``

``RHC was up this morning at 1159:30 UT on 6000 khz in Spanish with a
good strong signal, with less than perfect modulation, but a
listenable signal nonetheless. I did not hear them at the same time
the day before. Tony Pavick, Hope BC``

My further monitoring Feb 27: VG Spanish at 0520 on 6000, still at
0608, 0706, even 0717+ direct at S9+45 good mod level but slight
distortion. If this be only frequency they can run at night, sensible
to split it English/Spanish (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2284)

** CUBA. 15230, Feb 27 at 1551, S6/S8 carrier, now with some suptorted
modulation seeming Spanish, so RHC improving slightly (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** JAPAN. 15280, Feb 27 at 0727 S6/S7 music, 0730 Japanese; NHK
scheduled 0655-0950; also a Sound of Hope channel, so subject to CNR1
jamming but none of that now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PHILIPPINES. Re my hearing R. Pilipinas, 15190 still on past 2000
UT Feb 25:

``[bdxc-news] Radio Pilipinas World Service extended hours --- Rumen
Pankov reported (16 Feb) that he had heard Radio Pilipinas at
1730-2030 UT over the previous 3 days on 9925, 12120 and 15190 kHz via
Tinang in Tagalog (Filipino) / English. So with an extra hour
1930-2030 to previously scheduled.

I tuned in yesterday (26 Feb) and, yes, the 1730 broadcast is still on
air until 2030 UTC. Very good reception on 12120 kHz and 15190 kHz,
especially at first (9925 kHz much weaker here). They still announced
just 1730-1930, together with the frequencies, at
sign on, though (anyone noticed if their 0200-0330 transmission has
also been lengthened?) 73 Alan Pennington, Lowe HF-225 Europa,
Wellbrook ALA 1530 loop, Caversham, UK, Feb 27`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WORLD OF RADIO 2284)

** U S A. 293 MCW kHz, Feb 27 at 0734 UT, ND beacon FBY, FairBurY NE,
one of my most regulars, now accompanied by weaker UI, qUIncy IL which
is normally unheard (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2283 monitoring: confirmed UT
Thursday February 27 at 0130 on WRMI 5010, S9/+15 into Bonaire SDR.

Also confirmed Thursday February 27 at 1730 on SW Radio, Germany,
6160.011+, S9+5/15 into UTwente, but with heavy fast SAH from unknown
CCI - China? suppposedly not until *1800. Also heavy ACI from 6165,
CRI English. Much better with no QRM on 3975.002+, S9+5/10 into
UTwente.

Canada, China and non, Cuba, Denmark, (Ethiopia), Europe, Finland,

Glenn Hauser logs February 26, 2025  View Printable Version
Thursday, February 27 2025

Logs
** BRAZIL. Correlating with my non reception Feb 25 of RBC, this from
``Rudolf Grimm, São Bernardo SP (GG66rg) / Ibiuna SP (GG66hh),
BRAZIL:
4985 kHz: Rádio Brasil Central, Goiânia GO, 24/02 1612. Silent.
11815 kHz: Rádio Brasil Central, Goiânia GO, 24/02 1630. Completely
distorted audio. No understanding of what is being transmitted. Strong
spurious signal on 11960 kHz`` (via Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15230, Feb 26 at 1547, S8/S9 of dead air, or trace of mod?
from RHC, where something`s always wrong. The only other active
frequency, 6000 after 0100 in English, was reported earlier this date
by Chris Campbell, Ron Trotto and James Branum with greatly improved
modulation. Chris:

``RHC improvements on 6000 kHz --- Hey Glenn, An insider at RHC
alerted me earlier tonight to try the 6000 kHz broadcast this evening.
I just got home and I have to say after monitoring and logging them
for years, this is the best quality I have heard in a long time. Since
their return, I had been supplying audio samples a couple times a
week. Each was forwarded to their engineer at the transmitter site
(they won't say which one). I also alerted them to the T.O.H. female
news reader with the extreme monotone voice which is impossible to
understand. They took all suggestions well and I was told the
equipment is old but there is some things they are trying. I hope this
continues and they are requesting additional feedback. Regards, Chris
Campbell, Columbus, Ohio`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** JAPAN. 11825, Feb 26 at 0740, classical music, Japanese
announcement, S5/S7 // stronger 7380, which is the only signal between
the Martíes at this hour. Per HFCC, NHK 11825 at 07-10 is 290 degrees
to CIRAFs 43,44 = China,  while 7380 at 07-08 is 55 degrees to CIRAFs
14,16, = southern cone of SAm in the middle of their night (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17755, Wed Feb 26 at 1549, no signal from REE direct, nor
12030, so not on air at all? Oops, on weekdays, no start before 1600.
By 1728, 17755 is S9+10/20 into TWR S Africa SDR, 1730 TS and into
Arabic, still no 12030 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Feb 26 at 2300, token English from SNR, VG
S9+30/50 into Georgia SDR, also VG on 17715, audible on 17755 and
still NO 12030. News, and 2305 item about Timothy Snyder, American
author of ``On Freedom``, speaking in reverby venue. 2309 Beirut
correspondent about drama therapy. 2313 main feature is interview
about vegan lifestyles - nothing to do with Lyra; about 12% of
Spaniards are vegans (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [non]. 5960, Feb 26 at 2257, no signal of VOT into UTwente;
by 2323, just Chinese from PBS Xinjiang, East Turkistan, standard
denunciation. Not on alternate/accidental 9610 either, but presumed VG
Mongolian CNR8 from Beijing site (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 26110 NBFM, Feb 26 at 1552, presumed KMK282, aux of KOVR
Stockton / Sacramento CA, discussion about something in English, but
only S6, not full quieting. Nothing on 25950, another aux which Terry
Krueger in FL recently heard (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2283 monitoring: ``from: Richard
Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening
Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees.
WRMI, USA, World of Radio #2283, 9395 kHz, QRN, 0030 (45433), 0044,
0045, 0059, (45433), February 26 UTC 2025 [Wed] (Lemke, Richard
-AB)``

Confirmed UT Wednesday February 26 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9+35 into
Georgia SDR.

Also confirmed UT Wednesday February 26 at 0030 on SW Radio, Germany,
3975.003, S9/+10 into Carlow, Ireland SDR; after little or no signal
into UTwente.

Also confirmed Wednesday February 26 at 2030 on SW Radio, Germany,
3975.003+, S9/+5 into UTwente.

Also confirmed Wednesday February 26 at 2202 the 2200 on WBCQ 7490 -76
Hz = 7489.924, S9/+5 into Maryland SDR. Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160.

``Hi Glenn, as we are heading towards springtime soon, China gets
weaker on 6165 kHz during European evening. Thus we decided to extend
transmissions on 49mB till 1800 UT. This will result in a parallel
output of WOR on Thursdays, effective tomorrow. Please add:
1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160 kHz
Thanks for your work and appreciated the AI generated DX song last
edition ;-)
73 Andy (Engineer, Shortwave Radio, Winsen on the river Aller,
Germany)``

Thanks to Ron Howard, Monterey CA who sent a check on a US bank to
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, and ``Happy Chinese
New Year``

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to:
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5890, Feb 26 at 0731, WWCR is on again // 5850 WRMI, bigsig
asserting that Obama was born in Kenya and can`t be president -- a
moldy oldy from TOM archive, but not the voice of BS. What nonsense,
and what is the point of airing this in 2025y? WWCR-4 is still
supposed to be running 5890 overnight only on Sat & Sun, but this is
Wed. Such an anomaly last noted Jan 30 which was Thu (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1549.82, Feb 26 at 0115, JBA carrier into Querétaro SDR
again, producing het against 1550.00 skywave signals; and again at
0725 direct. Still can`t be sure it`s XEREL (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7805-7850, Feb 26 at 0735, S9+30, multi-carrier,
multi-tone beating uteblob, what is this? barely missing CHU on 7850
CUSB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9236, Feb 26 at 0737, S9+10/25 open carrier except for
clix exactly every second, like a clock but no markers on the minute.
The clickery is audible out to 9221/9249 approx., like +/- ~14 kHz.
What is this? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs February 25, 2025  View Printable Version
Wednesday, February 26 2025

Logs
** BRAZIL [and non]. 4985, Feb 25 at 0650, not even a JBA carrier from
R. Brasil Central; normally one can be detected vs the utecrap on the
plus side; nor have I heard it for several late-nights. Is it off? Feb
25 at 1715, checking remote in Goiânia itself, nothing on 4985, but on
11815 a trace, maybe Romania, only other thing sked during this hour
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. [WOR] Is 1549.82 XEREL? I`ve been chasing the 1549.82 kHz
carrier again tonight UT Feb 25 around 0630, after hearing it again
direct, JBA. Tried about 6 remotes in different areas of the US, and
not audible. Tried the one in Querétaro, and it *is* barely audible;
also at Durango2, but very noisy. Not in San Diego.

There are only two Mexicans on 1550, one besides Tijuana: XEREL, La
15-50, Morelia, Mich., 1 kW per WRTH. The only Central American is a 1
kW in Honduras. Perhaps our active MW DXer in Qro could check this
out? 73, (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, 0647 UT Feb 25)

At 1620 Feb 25 in full daytime I check the same remote, named ``San
Juan del Rio`` not obviously in Qro, when there should only be closer
non-skywave signals on 1550. Tuned to 1550.000, it displays an
inaudible carrier -26 to -30 Hz. But checking 15000 WWV for
calibration, that reads out -118 Hz, so this does not add up. If
properly calibrated, we should be getting something at -180 Hz if it`s
1549.82 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NEW ZEALAND [and non]. 13755, Feb 25 at 0754, RNZP the only
significant signal on band, S6/S8 with rapid news in English about
VANUATU, such as earthquake damage; while VBTC itself is too weak to
copy on 7260. Soon some island music, 0800 timesignal and tropical
cyclone warning for FIJI. This was `Melanesian Update`, per the
Tuesday program schedule in UT +13:

``8:08 PM. Pacific Waves
A daily current affairs programme covering the major Pacific stories
of the week, with background and reaction from the people making the
news.

8:28 PM. Melanesian Update
Melanesian Update includes Pidgin News from Koroi Hawkins followed by
BuzzFM News from our partners in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

9:00 PM. ABC Wantok Program
30 minutes of news and current affairs from ABC Australia from Monday
to Friday in Papua New Guinea Tok Pisin, Solomon Islands Pijin and
Vanuatu Bislama pidgin languages`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PHILIPPINES [and non]. 15190, Feb 25 at 1958, into Brasília SDR,
bigsig in unID language making big het with R. Inconfidência with
equally bigsig and soon makes a full ID for its MW, SW and FM
frequencies. It`s way off-frequency minus as usual lately, but per
HFCC, EiBi and Aoki, nothing else is supposed to be on 15190 at this
hour after Radyo Pilipinas at 1730-1930. I don`t take time to measure
it exactly as I am trying to ID the other.

At 2004 I switch to UTwente where there is no signal from Brasil.
Listening further, there are often English words and phrases, such as
Blackwater, free agent, USAWR, San Miguel, and Pilipinas! Yes, that`s
what it is, Tagalog on 15190.003 at S9+25, so extended transmission,
by accident or change? Is for Mideast, so maybe sorta toward Brasil
too (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.003, Feb 25 at 2333, VOT with music VG into
UTwente, 2338 ``always-by-your-side`` promo, music. 2348 multi-lingual
ID filler reel, music; 2354 s/off atop 6CI, only two iterations of
first notes of IS and chop by 2356*, uncovering ChiCom music (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2283 monitoring: confirmed UT
Tuesday February 25 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, S7/S9 into S TX SDR.

Also confirmed Tuesday February 25 at 1406 the 1400 on WRMI 9955,
S4/S5 direct.

Also confirmed Tuesday February 25 at 1517 the 1500 on WRMI 9955,
S8/S9 JBA direct.

Also confirmed Tuesday February 25 at 2100 on IRRS SW via AM Italia,
122.997+, S8.5 into UTwente across Europe. Next:

0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
0030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
2030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975.

** U S A. 1560, Feb 25 circa 0630 UT, checking remotes for 1549.82
mystery carrier, I happen to notice into Washington DC area SDR, a
very strong ID for Family Radio on 1560 - WFME New York, of course -
could it be back up to 50 kW? Never hear it direct, of course - 1560
dominated by KGOW TX in Vietnamese, despite its supposed unfavorable
pattern thisaway (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

From now and for an unknowntime, at least for 3 years, I will not use any radio except the remote SDRs forDXing. Recently we moved from the village back to the city in a space thatprohibits the use of desktop DXing, a place flooded by high levels of noise inthe LMHF bands. The radio is now used mostly for FM, for news listening.we runpolitically lively condition with always very interesting twits every day ..
