** MEXICO. 800, Sept 19 from 0620, the extremely distorted signal is
certainly XEERG, Ojo de Agua, Nuevo León. After two nights of hearing
horribly distorted QRM to KQCV 800 OKC, not noted earlier UT Sept 19
during primetime, but again now at 0620, altho not as severe as
before. See previous reports under OKLAHOMA [and non].

This time I`m checking remote receivers. NOT heard in OKC, so not a
defect of KQCV itself. Not heard at Durango2 SDR. But YES, audible at
these: Querétaro; Austin TX; even Truth or Consequences NM making me
wonder if XEROK could be attempting a comeback. At 0625 am also
hearing it quite well at McAllen TX SDR in the RGV, so I stick with
that. Without KQCV or other QRM there, I can tell there are Spanish
announcements between rock tunes. At 0638, Spanish ID mentions
``92.9``. A BIG clue, so let`s take another look at listings:

mwlist: ``MEX XEERG RG La Deportiva 92.9 FM Ojo de Agua * 10/2.5
relays XHERG 92.9 MHz, ex XEDD La Tremenda``

Who cares what state it`s in? Mwlist does not. But they should, since
there are more than one Ojo de Agua in the country! Google searching
without specifying Nuevo León leads to the major one in Estado de
México. But look at this in the 2024 IRCA Mexican Log:

``800 XEERG NL Ojo de Agua 10000 2500 R-G La Deportiva 24h? SPT ORO //
XERG 690 AM, XHERG 92.9 FM, and XHFMTU 103.7 FM-HD2. ex-XEDD. Stereo.
Staying on AM per IFT. Active on AM 11/23 (logged by DXer) and
included in 8/24 IFT list. This station was purchased because of its
powerful FM license, giving the operator of XERG 690 AM an FM "rim
shot" into Monterrey``

Facebook: ``La localidad de Ojo de Agua está situado en el Municipio
de Agualeguas (en el Estado de Nuevo León). Tiene 82 habitantes. Ojo
de Agua está a 380 metros de altitud.``

So there we have both an FM frequency match and a geographical match
for XEERG near Monterrey. We do not have a format match, but it would
not be unusual for a sports station to be playing music instead in the
nightmiddle. On distorted 800, I hear another announcement break at
0642 before quitting SDR. Final check direct at 0647: less distorted
music still QRMing KQCV.

Then in the daytime at 1615 UT, I check McAllen again: and there it is
by groundwave on 800, extremely distorted talk, presumably about
sports. Non-local strength, only S5. While monitoring via McAllen
remote in the night, I did not yet know about the // on 690. But now
at 1620 there is ALSO NON-distorted sports talk mentioning Monterrey,
on 690. By 1710, no signal on 690, off? but still distorted on 800.
This is not splatter from anything on 790 or 810. The TWR Brownsville
SDR is not available. BTW when I first checked the new McAllen SDR a
few days ago, it was deaf below 1800 kHz, but not anymore. I had
previously asked if anyone else was hearing the distorted 800, but no
replies (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2261)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2260 monitoring: confirmed UT
Thursday September 19 at 0130 on WRMI, 5010 direct, S9+15/20 in high
storm noise level, and also a few noise burst QRMs briefly. Followed
`Frecuencia al Día`, and some music fill, no ID before WOR.

Also confirmed Thursday September 19 from 1630.7 on SW Gold Radio,
Germany, 6160.000+, S9+5 into UTwente. Following ID as ``Shortwave
Radio, Germany`` on both 6160 and 3975, but 3975 is not on yet,
scheduled from 1700.

tonight with continuous QRM, extremely distorted seems like music,
right on same frequency only. Does not match anything on 780, 790, 810
or 820. This time I DF it with the altazimuth wrist-mounted DX-398:
peaks NNW/SSE at same angle as KQCV. Possibly out of KQCV itself, but
again no sign of it in daytime check after 1430. Is anyone else
hearing this? Based on DF alone, but a few possibilities: CHAB Moose
Jaw SK, WSHO New Orleans LA, XEQT Veracruz -- but none of them very
likely by power and distance. CHAB & WSHO are OK in remote daytime
chex 1745. How about PJB? Own Bonaire SDR tied up as often. Next time
I should check remotes when I am hearing that, especially the one in
OKC (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA [non?]. 11936.143+, Sept 18 at 1806, very rapid
chirping vs Yemen service, S9+20. Jamming from Iran? UTwente flails to
lock onto when tuned to 11935, but finally stix here when tuned to

** SPAIN. 17855, Wed Sept 18 at 2201, token English from SNR, S9+30/40
direct, 2202 news, something about democratic reforms proposed, such
as decriminalizing insulting royalty. 2212 check, 17715 back to weaker
than 17855 since it`s toward S America, but today is also fluttechoey
unlike the others: 15520 sufficient and 15390 still AWOL (Glenn

** TURKEY. 11785.005, Sept 18 at *2200.3, VOT carrier cuts on late,
dead air at first and powering up from S8 to S9+20 as monitored
direct; 2201 brings up modulation as olds is starting. Something`s
always erroneous at Emirler. Recheck 2214 ending `Review of the
Turkish Press`, into a new segment I had not heard before, about
inventions; starting with assassination of Chicago Mayor Harrison on
28 October 1893. This led to improvements in body protexion: steel
armor and shields obsolete. Something about a Polish immigrant`s work.
Dr. George E. Goodfellow discovered that someone avoided death because
a bullet hit his handkerchief in pocket, and this led to bulletproof
vest invention, as he demonstrated by having an assistant fire at him
point-blank. Never explained materials made of, kevlar never
mentioned! But show outro as `Unscripted Twists of Fate` -? or more
likely, `Unexpected-`? 2222 music. 2233 recheck into UTwente when

0654 phone number in Spanish starting with AC 512, which is San
Antonio TX area - or was as I well remember from living there, but it
shrank in 1992 to Austin area. And on the altazimuth wrist-mounted
DX398, DF SSW almost fits for that, really closer to due south. 0659
and again at 0700, IDs as ``La Raza 95.1``. Therefore per NRC AM Log,
it`s KZNX, Creedmoor TX, U7 10000/220/1000/55 watts, address in El
Paso, but that`s the group HQ. Creedmoor is not even indexed in my
road atlas. It`s 15 miles south of Austin, 2020 census population 434.
What do you bet it`s not on 220 watt night power? KZNX last logged
April 8 during Total Solar Eclipse. You might expect a TX 1530 in
Spanish would be KGBT Harlingen, U8 50/10/50 kW, but night pattern
disfavors the north, main lobe ESE into GOM, and it`s TUDN sports

modulation audible direct, music, 0342 announcement seems English but
too weak to copy, 0343 back to music, choral? I emailed to the Hikari
FM address, but no reply yet. EiBi shows location as Choya Bay,
Sonora, which is what the pirate op once said. Or Cholla, that`s just
west beyond Puerto Peñasco on a little peninsula into the Sea of

** OKLAHOMA [and non?]. 800, Sept 17 at 0635 UT, usual dominant signal
from KQCV OKC has some very distorted QRM on this frequency only. Not
sure yet whether local, need to check on other radios. No sign of the
noise in daytime at 1710. NRC AM Log shows *all* other conterminous US
800s have less than KQCV`s 1000-watt night power. XEROK is kaput, not
mentioned at all in 2024 IRCA Mexican Log. There are a few more XEs
still on 800; higher-powered Canadians; and PJB (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Sept 17 at 2158, no token English on Tuesday but
checking SNR Ladino reception anyway. VP direct S5/S8 with pulsing on
the plus side. This NAm frequency at S6/S8 is *weaker* than 17715 to
SAm, S9/+10 with flutter, so something`s notright at Noblejas in
addition to prop disturbance. 15520 also on and 15390 also still off.
Estimated frequency at 2200 of the pulsing, never noticed before:
17855.7. Is it REE transmitter itself? Into Maryland SDR at 2220,

0400 as usually happens UT Mondays, rather English with news about
Israel, Hamas. Must be the WRN relay whose North American service does
contain Israel Radio at 0400-0500 daily. Does I.R. know or even care
that is back on SW? WRMI System B program grid claims internet-only
during that hour. Also Sept 16 at 0647 check, Spanish no doubt RFI
relay hour, which WRMI grid still claims is an hour earlier at 05-06,
internet only except weekends. Need to check what really air at 05-06:
from WRN it would be Prague & Slovakia; and at 06-07 not RFI from WRN
but DW and NHK. 5010 was off this UT Monday as usual instead of TOMBS

** KURDISTAN [non]. 11540, Sept 16 at 0416 music and talk, probably
Dengê Gel and/or Erdowan jammer. No other signals in the 11.5s. EiBi
shows site ARMENIA for D.G.; Aoki only on 11535 as Uzbekistan. While
not always on 11540, Gianni Serra also reported this the night
before:

enough direct to detect modulation if any, from pirate Hikari FM or

** OKLAHOMA. 98.5, Sept 16 at 0559 UT, Enid translator is // 99.9
KVBN-LP. This is a change for the 98.5 source, no idea when it
happened as I seldom listen to either but 99.9 had a joint ``KVBN`` ID
for both frequencies. This would be news to FCC and WTFDA. FCC FM
Query still claims 98.5 K253BC, licensed to Paul Regier, relays KGVV
which is 90.5 in Goltry, 14 kW, ``The House of Praise / The Love
Station``. Goltry is not far away and hardly needs a translator in
Enid. But KVBN gets a stronger 250 watt signal on 98.5 than 78 watts
on 99.9. Both WTFDA and FCC show 98.5 & 99.9 at considerably different
coordinates.

But the WTFDA FMDB shows 98.5 K253BC relays KLVV 88.7! Hardly: that`s
in Ponca City, once a semi-local signal in Enid but now blocked by
another translator here. Are translator licensees free to change their
inputs without notice? I searched the WTFDA FMDB only by city: Enid,
so I see some other wrong info:

93.1 K226BR of KIMY 93.9 Watonga has been OFF THE AIR for many years.
So what if it may officially still be licensed?
96.9 KQOB quit relaying KZLS 1640 a few years ago; Freedom 96.9 is not
also on MW, as 1640 became // 1390 KCRC with sportstalk. 96.9 tho
licensed to Enid is in effect a full-power OKC station, site closer to
there than here. Several other local signals are missing since they
are licensed to outlying towns: besides gospel huxters, 95.7, 97.7,
106.3, same group as 107.1, 96.9, 1640, 1390 (Glenn Hauser, Enid,

** SPAIN. 17855, 17715, 15520 but still not 15390, Monday September 16
at 2159, token English from SNR after 2200 timesignal accurate to WWV,
S9+20/30 on 17855. Preview interview to be about tourism in Spain this
summer, problems in Balearix and Barcelona, with director of World
Tourism Organization. News leads with two Spaniards detained in
Venezuela, wrongfully accused of spying and planning assassinations. I

** TURKEY. 11785.001-, Sept 15 at 2200, no signal from VOT English
into UTwente: BUT cuts on carrier at *2201, no modulation and off at
2202*. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. They tried to start
and failed again. Signal was only S9+15, weaker than usual, but would
have been sufficient. Nor did it resume later in the hour. So we miss
this week`s `Letterbox`, if there were a new one, and I also missed
checking for the possible final repeat after 0300 on 7275 (Glenn

** TURKEY. 11785.005-, Sept 16 at 2158, VOT not off the air, IS and
English IDs, S9+10/20 direct. 2223 into UTwente when measured, S9+45
during `The Energy Agenda`. 2224 music. 2227 more music. 2232 `That`s
Why`, about the Hittites who flourished in Anatolia, 1600-1200 BCE,
and after a few mins, more & more music. 2252 headlines: Gaza death
toll 41,226, and *rump not assassinated. 2253 s/off as if the 1230 on
17620 and IS. 2256 restart IS with German IDs, until 2258.3* chop.

Also confirmed Sunday September 15 at 2330 on WRMI 7570, S9+15/25 into
Georgia SDR but with lite RTTY warble underneath. Immediately followed
`cello music with no ID break.

Also confirmed UT Monday September 16 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9/+10
into Georgia SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday September 16 from 0300.7 on Area 51 via WBCQ
6160 -71 Hz = 6159.929, S5/S7 into Maryland SDR, following Johnny
Lightning who gotta go and an insert about contacting Scott Becker.
