Glenn Hauser logs February 19-20, 2023  View Printable Version
Tuesday, February 21 2023

Hauser
** CUBA. 6165, Feb 20 at 0726, S9+20 of dead air in English -- or is
it Spanish, and nowhere else on 5, 6, 10 or 11 MHz, except:
11760, Feb 20 at 0737, S9+20 of dead air here too. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Mon Feb 20 at 0739, cannot detect a JBA
carrier from R. Kiribati nor any other 9/kHz split. But Gary Pence,
KM5X did see it on the Oahu SDR waterfall at 0537 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** KOREA NORTH. 9875, Feb 20 at 0732, S7/S9 with distorted song and
Russian talk, i.e. VOK as sked 0700-0857. At this hour probably aimed
up the Pacific coast in local Siberian evening. Much stronger than VOK
Japanese on 9650 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 28171 CW, Feb 20 at 2250, too-quick check of the 10m
hambeacon band on the first one I encounter, with strange keying, odd
spacing: three dashes at diminishing powers, then XE1FAS/ B after a
space, and then E-something gridmark. NOT listed in WI5V roster on 10
m, only on 12: ``24.9295 XE1FAS PUEBLA MEXICO New 16 Sept 2010``

but the older WJ5O roster not updated since 2016y has it:
``28.171 XE1FAS C PUEBLA, MEXICO # 5W, VERTICAL NEW 30 Sept 10``

Much more info and illos at his QRZ.com page; which is his surname?
``XE1FAS Mexico flag Mexico, SEGURA WALLS ALEJANDRO, 31 PONIENTE 2926,
COL. EL VERGEL, PUEBLA, PU 72410, Mexico``

including, sic: ``BEACONS : 28.171 , 24.929.5 , 50.030 ALL CW ,
(XE1FAS/B EK09VB ) 15 WATTS , LOOP ANTENA TRIBANDER ,OPERATED INTERVAL
20 SECONDS , 2260 MTS HIGH, I APRECIATED A REPORT, FIRST MEXICAN
BEACON IN 12 MTS AND 160 MTS , BEACON IN 2.000KHZ 160 MTS BAND 3 WATTS
ANT QUARTER VERTICAL ANTENA, IN OCTOBER APROX PUT IN THE AIR 472-479
HZ NEW BEACON .`` Among many other things he also runs an SSTV
repeater (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA [and non]. 7255-, Feb 20 at 0725, VON with S9/+10 of dead
air, way to go! Something`s always abysmal at Abuja. At least it
doesn`t QRM neighbor 7260 VANUATU, much weaker (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 350 MCW kHz, Feb 20 at 0745 UT and still 1639, RG, ND
beacon at Will RoGers World Airport, OKC, is AWOL. No particular
weather excuse. How are all those World planes going to land safely
without it? The other local-Okies are still extant, night & day: 255
SW StillWater, 332 IC wIChita KS, 341 EnId, 515 PoNca City. RG listed
400 watts, but days before vanishing, seemed to be weakening (Glenn
Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** ROMANIA. 5990 AM, UT Mon Feb 20 at 0140, absolutely local-quality
excellent signal into UTwente, discussing World Radio Day a week ago
and how R. Prague International was marking it; i.e. this is RRI
Galbeni during the N American service hour, intercepted in Holland,
but probably also VG on to the east coast at least; DX/SWL/Media
Programs alleges show at this time is `Listeners Letterbox` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690 > 12030 > 11940 > 11685, Mon Feb 20 at 2300, all four
SNR frequencies funxional once again into Maryland SDR for token M/W/F
English; after news from 2307 interview with an Irish guy living in
Spain for a dekayear and a Spaniardess, María, who are authors and
publishers about Irish/Spanish cultural connexions (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5910.005, Feb 20 at 2309 & 2339, all-Turkish
broadcast, S9+25/30 into UTwente, presumably special service on
frequency reserved for IRDR = International Radio for Disaster Relief.
Probably a domestic TRT network if not a special one. HFCC has SMG
VATICAN site registered 24 hours, but I think a placeholder so this
one not necessarily transmitted from there: altho on this band due to
skip distance, would work better than from Emirler inside Turkey, too
close.

Not in EiBi but Aoki assumes it is:
5910 1700-0400 CVA Voice of Turkiye Tur Santa Maria 1-7
However that span conflicts with Romania to NAm in Romanian at 01-03,
and CRI via Cuba at 03-05!

BTW, some editor keeps ``correcting`` NAm in my reports to Nam --- it
has to be a capital A for America abbreviated, nothing to do with Viet
Nam!

5960, meanwhile, the VOT N American service frequency, is AWOL yet
again, which happens far too often, earthquaxe or not, during the
entire hour, as nothing but Chinese heard from 2302, i.e. XJPBS
Urumqi, East Turkistan, land of imperialist ChiCom genocide against
Uyghurs and other Moslems (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2178 monitoring: Also confirmed
Sunday February 19 from 2101 UT on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz
only, Villa Estense, S9+15/18 into nearby Noale SDR. Preceding IRRS
unnamed music show ran a bit over; had been playing Horn-of-Africa
music. During ID and WOR start, heavy QRM from something in Italian:
new station, or double feed at AMI? Had cleared by 2118 recheck.

Also confirmed UT Monday February 20 at 0054 the 0030 on WRMI 7780,
JBA direct despite S9/+10 including HNL but at 0058 into Louisiana
SDR, good S9/+10 without the HNL.

Also confirmed UT Monday February 20 at 0401.5 on WBCQ Area 51, 6160
minus 64 Hz = 6159.936, S9+5/10 into Maryland SDR. JL gotta go by 0400
but inserted by surprise an old clip of me about something offtopic,
then WOR. Larry Will says, ``Glenn, we've been using that particular
"area 51 [Ode to] slinky" liner for years now. It dates to 2009; I
don't know which WOR it originated from. The voice saying "do what you
gotta do" at the end is James Brownyard of WHYP, a notable free radio
operator. Lw`` - Next:

Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support
is appreciated. Thanks this week to Joe Caberlin, VE1EJ, Ontario for
some US$ and a book to Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA

One may also contribute by MO or cheque on a US bank to above address;
or via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9475, Feb 20 at 2020, George McClintock calls asking me to
check out this WTWW day frequency which he has fired up just about for
the first time, running 50+ kW; it`s the same #2 transmitter as on
5085 at night, since #1 & #3 are still unusable. I have to tell him
it`s JBA; I can perceive it`s on with talking, presumably PPPP; yet
neighbor WWCR 9980 with TOMBS is blasting in as usual. Unless
something else is wrong, maybe because on antenna aimed south as I am
due west, way off to the side of it; altho in heyday was strong enough
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15825, Feb 20 at 1643, WWCR-1 is S9+30 direct tnx to not
unusual sporadic E boost, but with humbuzz, unseems local as no other
signals suffer such; finally at 1727, check Maine SDR, sounds same
there, S9+25/40. Something`s nogood at Nashville (Glenn Hauser, OK,
W)R

** U S A. 720, Mon Feb 20 at 0701 UT, WGN with news on the hour, then
a bit of weather and sports before 0706 joining some talkshow,
probably a replay from daytime. I never heard any ads. I`ve been
suggesting to the Courtesy Programs Committee that they should
approach WGN about turning off the air for the special event UT Wed
March 1 at 0759-0809 UT when co-channel 720 KDWN in rare Nevada has
agreed to test with 25 kW day power one last time before going off the
air forever; but CPC are defeatist, offering all kinds of excuses that
this would never be agreed to by WGN. Anyhow, if they went off for
only 5 minutes it looks like they might not lose any advertising, and
anyway would still be streaming altho appparently a holdout without
even an FM translator. Doesn`t WGN owe KDWN a little something for
*protecting* WGN all these years?

``Totally agree with you, Glenn. Defeatist in the extreme. Why not
simply ask. The presumptions of our infantile Walker is down right
irritating. I simply can't see a downside to asking! Nothing ventured,
nothing gained! Hang in there, my friend! Walt Salmaniw`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9510v, Feb 20 at 0734, big hum with pulsing, S8/S9,
peaks hard to pinpoint, approx. 9510.1 and 9510.17. I also heard this
previous night but not logged suspecting something local. Only thing
in Aoki & EiBi at this hour is XJPBS Urumqi Mongolian service which I
would not expect to hear so bigly (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, UT Sun Feb 19 at 0002, LRA36 test
first heard after 2000 Feb 18, and publicized as 2000-2300, is still
running, S7/S9 into Argentine SDR with music; 0012 it`s hard rock;
0015 plugs Panorama Nacional news originating at Esperanza during
entire month of January: how helpful; keep in mind for 2024y? 0027
``Comunicad`` promo. Unknown for how much longer, but Mick Delmage was
still hearing it at 0035; he and the other Albertan, Don Moman, were
getting it direct. But no way here with my HNL and inferior antenna

pirate, R. Antares (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11670, Feb 19 at 0750, RHC Spanish still on here, S9+10/20
long-after-hours when nowhere on 5, 6, or 10 MHz bands - slanted news
about Yemen, etc. Something`s always wrong at RHC. The Other Side:

``Public Health --- Is Cuba planning on a Russian-style privatization
of its health system? A sector of the Cuban population, especially
those over 50, has for years accepted the lack of freedom entailed by
Communism in exchange for 'guaranteed health and education.' But what
about now?
Juan Antonio Blanco Miami 13 Feb 2023 - 17:50 CET
A pharmacy without medicines in Havana. Diario de Cuba [caption]

Strange things are happening in Cuba. They have just granted
authorization to a MIPYME (TaTamanía) for doctors, nurses and
therapists to set up a private business taking care of the elderly.
And Havana has not reacted hostilely to the announcement of a private
business (Horus Intellicare Solutions) to provide telemedicine
services in Cuban territory from the United States, where the
community of exiles will pay for the medical attention for their
family members and friends on the island.

What is the reason for the regime's silence and tolerance of these
developments while new and stricter measures are being devised against
the exodus of doctors and nurses from the public health system?``...

regular XEs; quite a few others uncopied but not chock-full as often
happens now. These would be sporadic E rather than F2, with WI5V and

** NIGERIA. 7255-, Feb 19 at 0752, VON signature off-frequency carrier
still detectable anext Vanuatu. Gary Pence, KM5X, suggests: ``Nigeria
carrier only 0759z, new call sign, Station 67 as in minus 67 Hz from
7255 kHz`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 11950 USB, Feb 19 at 0045, poor S3/S4 into Maryland
SDR with music reported as classical. With ACI but clear here; CNR1
jamming and RFA Tibetan via Kuwait should start at 0100 when I do hear
a timesignal. First reported to WOR iog:

``11950 Feb 18 0025 UNID in USB mode. Classical music in sequence
without narration. Excellent signal on Atlanta SDR. Here in my QTH
good signal. None of the other broadcasts from Cuba feature classical
music at this time. Announcer with ID in English at 0030, but I
couldn't identify. Can someone help me? Still streaming. 73 Jorge
Freitas, Feira de Santana, Bahia 12°14´S 38°58´W - Brasil, Tecsun
PL-660, XHDATA, Antenna Delta Loop and LW 20 meters`` - Cuba not on
11950 weekends.

At 0158, a reply: ``Hi, Jorge - This is pirate station Mix Radio
International on 11950, according to the HF Underground board. By the
way, here near Seattle, it's a very good signal on 11950. It's even
very audible here without USB on. Eric Fetters-Walp, Lake Stevens,
Washington``. And later at 0310 from him:

``I'm not sure when the station switched frequencies, but after hours
on 11950, pirate MRI is now on 11935 USB with classical. Sounds good
here on the U.S. West Coast! Eric Fetters-Walp, Lake Stevens,
Washington``

11935 USB, so I try that and 0418, S8/S9 into northern Utah SDR, with
more familiar classical music than before but no IDs of the music.
0433 YL IDs like ``Finest Sounds: You are listening to MRI, Mix Radio
International, Worldwide`` and at 0444 inviting reports to
mix.radio.international@protonmail.com
Appears to be off at 0539 check (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960, Feb 18 at 2343, VOT is on today for the
2300 English for NAm, S9+25/35 into UTwente, music, 2351 multi-lingual
ID filler reel - you never know when or where this or other regular
features will appear during the hour, but this just in time before
2354 s/off with schedule atop CCCCCCI; 2355 IS, 2356 German IDs
inserted but cut off 2358* before bonus German hour, ceding to the
XJPBS ChiCom, std denunciation. Something`s always erroneous at
Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 13563.5 CW, Feb 19 at 1611 UT, PCO, <4 mW HIFER beacon in
Pine, ColoradO is JBA, and just above it on 13565 CW, K6FRC, <2 mW
HIFER beacon in Patterson, California even weaker JJBBA (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2178 monitoring: confirmed Saturday

level; 15770 better with less noise, S6/S8.

Also confirmed UT Sunday February 19 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, sufficient
into Maryland SDR way offbeam but where the 14-second noise burst at
outset is considerably underneath.

Also confirmed UT Sunday February 19 at 0451, about 4 minutes into so
started circa 0447 instead of nominal 0415, on WA0RCR, 1860 AM,

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Feb 18 at 2039, LRA36 on air again,
replaying that clip of LRA60 in Islas Malvinas, 2 April 1982. Seems
like whole transmission will be a rerun. Tnx to Manuel Méndez, Spain,
and Horacio Nigro, Uruguay, for forwarding advance notice from Adrián
Korol of RAE about another test today at 2000-2300. The 1 kW temporary
transmitter is not there until next week, recalibrated, so we`ll know
it`s on when 15475 becomes the frequency. Yet now the old one is VG
S9+5 via Argentine SDR. Says the inoperable 10 kW transmitter is being
moved back to General Pacheco to be repaired, eventually so RAE can
resume own SW BCs direct. Meanwhile tnx to Jeff White`s WRMI relays
for proving to bosses that SW is still viable. Still anticipating a
replacement 10 kW for LRA36 by next January (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. Re my report of 9440, R. Cairo reactivated on Feb 14 only,
Richard Langley, NB, replies on the WOR iog:

``I automatically record 9440 kHz every day using the U. Twente SDR
receiver. I can confirm that 14 February was the first time in a long
time that Cairo tried to transmit its English service at this time.
The modulation was quite low initially and not as distorted as usual
but with a noticeable 100 Hz hum. The accented English was actually
(painfully) understandable for stretches at a time. Time pips and
usual theme music and ID at about 22:00 UTC (brief recording
attached). At about 22:15 UTC, they increased the modulation level a
bit and the audio became more understandable but not for long. Most of
the following recorded segments were heavily distorted right up until
s/off at about 22:43 UTC with an approximately 1000 kHz test tone for
a few seconds. The transmission has not been noted since, including
yesterday 17 February, not even a carrier. -- Richard Langley`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Feb 18 at 0743, JBA carrier from R. Kiribati,
again the only 9/kHz split detectable circa this hour (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7255-, Feb 18 at 0809, signature off-frequency carrier
from VON, keeping VANUATU company (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** RUSSIA. 9310 USB, Feb 18 at 0534-0545, Soviet/Russia national
anthem station, repeating every 3 minutes and 29 seconds including
pause between them, S3/S5 into Maryland SDR. The pace is a bit faster
than usual? as it would sound more majestic to me. Also somewhat rough
and distorted modulation. Here`s a good source for more info about it,
including lyrix transliterated and translated:
https://www.classicfm.com/discover-music/periods-genres/national-anthems/russia-federation-state-lyrics-history-english-translation/
Putin not mentioned in lyrix, just: ``The melody and lyric combination
heard today was established in 2000 by the Putin regime`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Re 26110 NBFM, KOVR-TV talkback transmitter in last report
before 0100 UT Sat Feb 18: Nothing further heard from it after 0100
until maybe 0110, tho newscast supposedly ran another sesquihour.
Rabbitears.info shows it`s really on RF 25, virtual 13. And:
``Operator: CBS Corporation
Licensee: SACRAMENTO TELEVISION STATIONS, INC``

IIRC, KOVR was originally a Stockton station, and yes, as Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KOVR
explains its convoluted history:

``KOVR (channel 13) is a television station licensed to Stockton,
California, United States, broadcasting the CBS network to the
Sacramento area. It is owned and operated by the network's CBS News
and Stations division alongside CW affiliate KMAX-TV (channel 31).
Both stations share studios on KOVR Drive in West Sacramento, while
KOVR's transmitter is located in Walnut Grove, California.

KOVR began broadcasting in September 1954 from studios in Stockton and
a transmitter atop Mount Diablo. This facility provided wide coverage
from San Francisco to Sacramento and beyond, but KOVR could not obtain
a network affiliation in the San Francisco market, whereas its move
completely into the Stockton/Sacramento area in 1957 resulted in an
affiliation with ABC. After moving, the station was sold twice before
being acquired by newspaper publisher McClatchy in 1963. McClatchy
would sell the station in 1980 under intense pressure on owners of
newspaper-broadcast combinations, and it changed hands another six
times from 1983 to 1996. The station became a CBS affiliate in 1995 as
the result of an affiliation switch and was purchased by CBS in 2005;
uniquely, it broadcasts prime time programming one hour ahead of other
West Coast stations. Traditionally a third-rated station in local
news, ratings have gradually improved for its newscasts since the
1990s.``

There is much, much more about KOVR, including 117! footnote
references; but nowhere any mention of 26.11 MHz or 26110 kHz, despite
being a co-pending auxiliary! And far more likely to reach worldwide
coverage than on DTV. RF 25 transmitter site is Walnut Grove, so is
26110 there or at studio? Nominal city-to-city distance between
Stockton and Sac`to is 44 miles. W.G. roughly halfway between them.

Nothing on 26110 at 2005 UT Feb 18, since it`s Saturday with no noon
news. See sked in previous report. With increasing solar activity, F2
MUFs normally well above 26 MHz on day paths, but closer distances and
at night may be sporadic E, which also typically attains 72 MHz MUFs,
no good for FMBC DX, but maybe lowband VHF DTV. To check current 10m
active paths, pick N. America and 28 MHz at:
https://www.dxmaps.com/spots/mapg.php
Keep tuning across 25.8-26.5 MHz for others (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2178 monitoring: confirmed UT
Saturday February 18 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, VG S9+25/35 into Missouri
SDR.

Also confirmed UT Saturday February 18 at 0500 on WBCQ Radio Angela,
S9 into Maryland SDR on 5130 minus 15 Hz = 5129.985, closer to
frequency accuracy than any other WBCQs. This airing always starts
exactly on time.

Also confirmed Saturday February 18 at 1700 on WRN N America webcast.

NOT confirmed Sat Feb 18 at 1800 or 1826 on IRRS SW, 7295 via
Bulgaria, into UTwente, rather music; when WOR appeared without notice
by surprise last week.

Also confirmed Sat Feb 18 from 2027 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+20 into
nearby SDR. This does not mean the repeat at nominal 0415 UT Sunday
will be nearly on-time; like last week could be a sesquihour+ delayed.

** U S A. (7490v), UT Sat Feb 18 at 0100, `AAAWWW`, a new one on WBCQ,
listening via webcast but SWs also checked at 0140 into Missouri SDR:
7490 -71 Hz = 7489.929, 6160 -67 Hz = 6159.933, 5130 -4 Hz = 5129.996;
3265 off; 9330v with WLCR +36 to 55 Hz = 9330.036/9330.055. Thus their
SuperStition is also the most unstable. Starts off with ``time to get
to work`` and spends several minutes trying to recruit two new
engineers; implies an EEO, doesn`t care if they are aliens or females,
but must have experience with high power transmitters, such as UHF TV
employing Klystrons. Again compares the rotatable curtain antenna to
the Grand Canyon. Living in northern Maine: you either love it or hate
it: AW the latter spending winters in Florida.

Then about Model T Fords --- some museums will teach you how to drive
one. 0129 looking for new issue of Free Radio Weekly, but can`t find
it because this week alternating editor Dave Turnick never finishes it
before Saturday mornings. Asks Larry Will to forward it but all he can
do is resend last week`s, from which AW finally pix some items at
0156. Meanwhile at 0130 reading an article about how US DJs used to
play rock hits from Britain analog tape-recorded at 50 Hz, on 60 Hz
equipment, speeding them up and raising the pitch, which was just fine
so more commercials could be squeezed in. No more of that once CDs
came in. 0135 stats of radio listenership concerning World Radio Day
Feb 13 which he forgot to mention last week. 0144 lets himself be
interrupted by a call from Mike. Hasn`t heard from Freddie in some
months; etc., etc. Not much politix this week, whew (Glenn Hauser, OK,

** BRAZIL. 7399.918, Feb 17 at 0723, S7 direct with music, presumed R.
Antares with a better signal than last night, but further below 7400,
the pirate in Pará, as reported by many others. Ron Howard found this
almost hourlong recording of it via Brasília SDR, Feb 10:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCiiMTX9VyI
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 9454.995, Feb 17 at 1905, Firedragon music jamming, VG
S9+25/30 into UTwente with hardly anything from victim except a SAH,
i.e. per HFCC something in Chinesemandarin from USAGM via Saipan at
16-17 & 19-21 plus via Kuwait at 21-22; likely totally jammed, and no
sign of this ``24h`` WRMI frequency. Seems like the FD music may be
slightly different than previous years but still heavy on the
percussion and raucousness (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ITALY [non]. 14589.996, Fri Feb 17 at 1813 IRRS SW via BULGARIA,
rock music, S7/S8 into UTwente on 2 X 7294.998 where it`s S9+30.
Recheck 1857 already very heavy 7295 CCI from CRI English, or rather
``CGTN Radio`` as ID in the clear at 1900: HFCC registered as 500 kW
due west from Urumqi, i.e. EAST TURKISTAN, land of imperialist ChiCom
genocide against Uyghurs and other Moslems (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Feb 17 at 0736, JBA carrier from R. Kiribati,
once again the only 9/kHz split audible (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7255-, Feb 17 at 0725, S9/+10 of dead air from VON, where
something`s always abysmal at Abuja; in contrast to neighbor VANUATU,
q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Fri Feb 17 at 2306, token English from SNR, VG
S9+10/20 into Maryland SDR, and better than still sufficient 12030 >
11940 > 11685, the last of which suffers from some squeal. After news,
feature about an environmental NPO concerned with cleaning up litter
in the landscape of natural areas. They coined a new Spanish word for
this, ``basuraleza``, combining basura = trash and naturaleza. Called
Libera, another word sounds like ``ecoenvez`` = ecology instead?
Finally refers to website https://proyectolibera.org 2325 fills with a
``chirigotas`` song from the Cádiz Carnaval (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960.005+, Feb 17 at 2316, VOT VG into UTwente, S9+40 well
atop the CCCCCCI. 2321 multi-lingual ID filler reel; 2323 `Feeling
Supreme/The Healing Spring` about choosing the right shoes for babies.
2338 acknowledging S&R help from abroad after the EQ. 2339 `Did You
Know That?` something about ancient remains in Anatolia. 2343 music.
2351 s/off with sked; 2353 IS to 2355.6* uncovering XJPBS, std.
denunciation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 26110 NBFM, Feb 18 at 0015, S8/S9, TV weathercast about
freezing tonight in the San Joaquín Valley, etc., by Cristine(sp?)
turning it back to anchor Curtis for some news from NY, balloonland.
IDs as ``CBS13``, some breaks in transmission like 0028 probably
during ads, 0030 back on, YL with ``top stories at 4:30``. Another
break at 0038. Sometimes completely off, others dead air. 0040
Breaking News, live from a shooting near a school. 0046 sports
segment, etc.

Quite steady signal. It`s one of those ``talkback`` transmitters so
correspondents in the field can be cued without internet or satellite
delay, from KOVR-TV, Sacramento, apparently wide coverage as also
refers to ``Bay Area``; first reported a few days ago by Colin Newell
in BC, and then heard as far away as Chile as an unID by Claudio
Galaz. I figured best chances for this to be on would be during local
news segments, so I checked their websked:
https://www.cbsnews.com/sacramento/program-guide/

``Called CBS13 implies KOVR may axually be O&O by CBS?
Local news times when 26110 NBFM is most likely to be active,
strictly UT and probably one hour earlier from March 12:

Fri Feb 17: 1400-1500, 2000-2030, and probably other weekdays too
UT Sat Feb 18 & Sun Feb 19: 0000-0230, 0600-0730
UT Sun Feb 19 & Mon Feb 20: 0100-0130, 0600-0730
Much less news on weekends and more subject to variations due to
Stupid Ball Games``

HFUnderground has a list of several other stations like this, most of
which I recall hearing in years past, but none reported lately until
now; and circa 0025 I don`t find any other activity 25.8-26.5 MHz
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2178 monitoring: not confirmed UT
Friday February 17 at 0330 on WRMI 7780: instead last week`s 2177
replays: totally my error in not getting new 2178 uploaded in time!

2178, Confirmed Friday February 17 at 1530 on WRMI 9955, S9/S7 direct,
no jamming audible. Never have I been so happy to hear Blalock the
Blaster, at 1528 since that means 9955 has not been turned off yet
this week! WOR complete to 1559, but off at next check 1615.

Also confirmed following Wavescan, Friday February 17 at 2130 on IRRS

Noale SDR and hardly any QRM. Next:

still not good enough to understand anything spoken. Watch out for
Mongolia which might also show up on 7260, near the end of RV circa

better at Asilomar State Beach, California (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. 7399.988, Feb 16 at 0424, music at S7 into UTwente SDR; by
0513 it`s 7399.992. This had been quite a mystery for a few hours in
the WOR iog. 7400 is a frequency `reserved` in HFCC for IRDR =
International Radio for Disaster Relief, with Vatican site as
placeholder like one other frequency in each band, possibly explaining
why V of Turkey has shown up on 5910 and 9430? Hardly any
announcements on 7400 but music recognized as Brazilian, and finally
IDs heard as R Antares, which is a pirate in Pará state (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2178)

** BRAZIL. 5940.026, Feb 16 at 0756, JBA praise music //9665v.
Incredibly, R Voz Missionária is almost on-frequency after years
closer to 5938. WWCR 5935 somewhat weakened by K=5, G1 storms (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2178)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Feb 16 at 0745 UT, JBA carrier from R.
Kiribati: lucky to detect this vs high storm noise level from eastern
OK, so no further MW or LW DXing tonight (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5000.000v, Feb 16 at 0749, WWV S9+20/30 but with heavy
Doppler flutter = unstable wobbling frequency as received: very
unusual from nearby best night channel of WWV. But 2500 & 10000 also
audible without the Dfl. WWV via email as of 0900:

``Solar-terrestrial indices for 15 February follow.
Solar flux 174 and estimated planetary A-index 29.
The estimated planetary K-index at 0900 UTC on 16 February was 5.00.

Space weather for the past 24 hours has been minor.
Geomagnetic storms reaching the G1 level occurred.
Radio blackouts reaching the R1 level occurred.

Space weather for the next 24 hours is predicted to be minor.
Geomagnetic storms reaching the G1 level are expected.
Radio blackouts reaching the R1 level are likely.``

** U S A. 9395, Feb 16 at 0754, JBA carrier, is this WRMI? Compared to
other 31m channels: 9455 absent; 9955 S6/S9. There are severe
propagation disturbances, but if 9955 be that good, the others should
be even better: problems at Okee site? Nothing else ever scheduled on
