Glenn Hauser logs November 24-25, 2023  View Printable Version
Saturday, November 25 2023

Logs
** FRANCE. 6000-6005-6010, Nov 24 at 0813, DRM noise S9+20. Nothing
listed in Aoki, EiBi, nor drmrx, but yes in HFCC:
6005 0800 0900 17,18,27,80 ISS 100 350 0 146 1234567 291023 300324 N
8500 Fra F TDF TDF 4089 DRM TES -- 350 is a very strange azimuth from
ISS; the CIRAF targets convert to France, UKQOGBANI, Ireland, Iceland,
Scandinavia including Svalbard and the uninhabited central North
Atlantic south of Iceland. See also UNID 7555 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ITALY [non]. 7290.003, Fri Nov 24 at 1853, JBV signal into UTwente,
locking onto exciter? *1857 pop up to full power open carrier on same
offset, 1859 IRRS/NEXUS/IBA s/on interrupts a few extraneous words
first and then JIP news, probably FSN. Before 1900, heavy ACI from
7285 China. Lunchtime for me. Recheck at 1944, 7290 is off! already
with heavy ACI from 7295 China in English. By 1957, CRI English on
both 7285 & 7295 vs no 7290. Aoki & EiBi both say IRRS site is
BULGARIA, considered confidential if not top secret by IRRS
``Milano``. But both Aoki & EiBi still show wrong summer time of
1800-1900 UT instead of 1900-2000 now. Aoki even still shows WOR at
1815-1845 Friday, canceled many months ago, but I was going to check
what occupy that shifted slot now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 255 MCW kHz, Nov 24 at 2320 UT, ND beacon SW in
StillWater is JB readable as the local line noise has finally abated
considerably but still occasional bursts: audiblized are numerous
birdies on LW, nevertheless a good sign, rather than any DX beacons,
yet. OG&E never contacted me after latest complaint, so unknown
whether they really did anything (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Fri Nov 24 at 2300, token English from SNR, 2305 after
news, two interviews about molestation of children by the Catholic
church in Spain; a survey of 8000 adults found that 1% said they had
been. Even that is too much. A lot more of them were boys than girls.
VG S9+30 direct (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SUDAN SOUTH [non]. 21485, Nov 24 at 1524, R. Tamazuj via FRANCE is
in English! But heavy Afro accents, M&W hardly copiable but think they
mention elexions; and in and out of another language, presumably Juba
Arabic. 1529 past 1532 in Horn-of-Africish music, S5/S8. It`s the OSOB
except for the other Issoudun on 21690. Tamazuj has been known to
include English segments but not shown in EiBi; 21485 absent from
Aoki; HFCC shows only Apd language at 1430-1600, 250 kW, 135 degrees
from ISS. WRTH 2023 mentions no English either; but the name means
intermingling or mixing; that could be anathema to some faxions (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.005, Nov 24 at 2314, VOT not off the air
with multi-lingual ID filler reel, S9+10/20 direct; 2323 outro for
`Weekly Commentary` - or was it `Weekly Analysis` -- what`s the
difference, something about Gaza; and with-you-every-hour promo. Then
via UTwente at 2348, S9+30/35 music. 2353 s/off, ``You have been
listening ---`` and chopped off the air! Too early is no compensation
for too late; but sked would have been wrong anyway. Uncovers the 6CI,
std denunciation. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler, awry at
Ankara (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2218 monitoring: confirmed Friday
November 24 at 2148 the 2130 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, S9/+8
into UTwente across Europe and no QRM; not bad for 858 km = 533 miles,
5 or 1 kW per mwlist, or maybe already the F.Pl. of 15?

Also confirmed Friday November 24 at 2300 the first SW BC, on WRMI
9955, JBA on the DX-398, but at 2315, S9/+10 into R75, undermodulated
with pulse jamming. Next:

0130 UT Saturday WRMI 5850 to NW
1630 UT Saturday WRMI 15770 to NE
2030vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM
0100 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?]
0330vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0415; as late as 0600]
1130 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 [also webcast, phonecast; jammed by Cuba?]
2100 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy
0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW
0400vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW
0130 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW
1400 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?]

1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB
1030 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB [previous #2217]
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW or 5130v?
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW

Thanks to Joe Caberlin, Port Colborne, Ontario for some US$ ,
preferably by MO or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702

Or via PayPal not necessarily in US funds to
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 9955, Nov 24 at 0747, WRMI-3 is S7 but just barely
modulated = JBM, during music presumably during TOMBS = The Overcomer
Ministry Brother Scare, also lite pulse jamming by the relentless,
clueless Cuban Commies.

9955, Nov 24 at 1521, WRMI is S8/S9, not off the air like it was
yesterday when WOR might have aired; Friday means Blalock the Blaster,
again very undermodulated: no one more deserving of that! But is this
transmitter about to die? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5130.3, Nov 24 at 2313. WBCQ poorly audible direct with
music so unseems ATATT = all-T****-all-the-time; and yes, 7490 is AWOL
again so main programming probably transferred. Yes: at 0032 Nov 25
the `FKB` gospel huxter is on 5130+, tho normally preceding `AAAWWW`
on 7490 which is still off. Maryland SDR with correxion factor puts it
on 5130.414 at 0048.

At 0100 announcer reveals the following AAAWWW ``was originally
broadcast on Friday September 29, 2023`` --- WRONG! Content does not
match with my notes for the UT Sat Sept 30 program - sounds familiar
but obviously after the Oct 7 Hamas attack on Israel; and Angela is
obviously in the same studio, not remote (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7550-7555-7560, Nov 24 at 0809, DRM noise S9. Nothing at
all, DRM or AM, in Aoki & EiBi. HFCC has BULGARIA, wrong mode, wrong
time: 1700-2359, 250 kW AM at 110 degrees.

Does Spaceline even have DRM capability? HFCC by FMO inexplicably does
never specify N = DRM or D = NOT DRM:
https://new.hfcc.org/data/schedbyfmo.php?seas=B23&fmor=SPC
This lists ``for new organization`` unspecified in 37 of the 48
entries, mostly wooden. Only others specified are 9 for Overcomer,
probably not all active; and 2 for Allan H Weiner = unactivated addons
really for wacko World`s Last Chance on 13850, 13840. Master HFCC B23
sked does show SPC with DRM on 5875, 15515. No 7555 entry here either:
https://www.drmrx.org/drm-broadcasts-shortwave-by-frequency/
I would not be surprised if it be another ISS test like logged a few
minutes later on 6005; see FRANCE (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs November 22-23, 2023  View Printable Version
Friday, November 24 2023

Logs
** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Nov 23 at 0700, NO signal detected from R.
Kiribati at Kaneohe, Oahu SDR which used to pick it up reliably on N/S
antenna. And of course no trace direct as I used to often have it last
wintrish (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 27, 4-1, KFOR, the NBC affiliate in the 50th largest
market, OKC, always has a hard time hitting the local ad cutaway cues
during NBC Eveningly News, by a second or split second. But on Nov 22
during 2330-2400 UT, there were several seconds of black silence, and
rejoining net with a story already in progress; get your act together.
Can`t this be handled accurately by automation? (Glenn Hauser, Enid,
WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2217 monitoring: Harold Frodge, MI, reports
about Tue Nov 21: ``9955 WRMI Radio Miami Int’l; 1405-1413+, 11/21;
Hauser’s World of Radio in progress to 1410 cutoff? Ian MacFarland
WRMI ID into odd chant. SIO=3+53 (Frodge-MI)`` Maybe that was the
`Thank You` show? I`ve asked Jeff to prevent this in future.

Jason, of Classic WBCQ Operations, replies about WOR missing from
7490+ and 5130.3, Wed Nov 22 at 2200: ``Hi Glenn, Sorry about that. We
have switched to an upgraded computer on 7490 and it's been a bumpy
ride with the changeover but it should be all fixed now. Jason``

Confirmed UT Thursday November 23 at 0130 on WRMI 9395, S9+15/20 into
Maryland SDR.

Also confirmed UT Thursday November 23 at 0130 on WRMI 5010, S9/+10
into Bonaire SDR.

Also confirmed UT Thursday November 23 at 0230 on WRMI 9395, S9/+25
direct.

Not confirmed alleged new time, Thu Nov 23 at 1500 on WRMI 9955 as
shown on skedgrid since last week. 9955 is not even on the air tho
sked shows it runs until 1600 or 1630. And not on webcast either,
rather music, fill? I`ve asked Jeff to clarify this.

Or via PayPal not necessarily in US funds to
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7490+, Nov 23 at 0248, WBCQ is back on tho missing earlier
at 2200 Nov 22, WOR time. Only S8/S9 into Maryland SDR showing wide
variations from as low as 7490.515 to 7490.813; but a WWV calibration
check at 0304 finds it reading -66 Hz low at 10 MHz, -33 Hz low at 5
MHz, so about -50 Hz low at 7.5 MHz. The wobbliness may not be
noticeable with AM tuning. Back at 0255, WBCQ 5130.3 was off, 6160 on
with Hal Turner as -109 Hz, so corrected should be more like only -70
Hz. And at 0302, a music break sounds same on 6 and 7 MHz, probably
Hal amid his 2-hour broadcast on UT Thursdays only (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 9955, Nov 23 at 0803, WRMI with TOMBS at S6/S9 but very
undermodulated compared to 9455 & 9395 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15770, Nov 23 at 1952, WRMI with VOA relay, VG into Maine
SDR like a local, but zero sig into UTwente, target Europe. Various
items, none concerning Ukraine, as Mike Cooper says `Flashpoint
Ukraine` morphed into `Flashpoint Global Crises` earlier this month,
first airings at 2200 UT M-F -- but are there any VOA English SW
frequencies then? So I was wondering if it would still be on WRMI at
1930, evidently almost 24 hours delayed. NOTE: on WOR 2218 I misspoke,
saying I was hearing it until 2200 on 15770 instead of correct -2000.
And during the remainder I did hear, anchor never named it even at
closing, just ``the program``, duh.

What about WRMI webcast? At 1950 it`s in Italian, then music, then
multi-lingual RAE ID reel. RAE Italian via WRMI is supposedly only at
12-13 UT M-F on 15770. Recheck at 2151 while 9955 is still off,
webcast now with VOA `African Music Mix`! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, Nov 23 at 0324, WTWW reactivated earlier than
expected, so all fixed already? S9+5/20 into Maryland SDR, very close
to on-frequency when corrected, likewise at 0325 into NH SDR (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs November 21-22, 2023  View Printable Version
Thursday, November 23 2023

Logs
** CANADA. 2749 USB, Nov 22 at 0746, marine weather in English by YL
voice, S7. Also same synth voice on 2598 USB much stronger S9+20.
Scheduled now are 2749 VCO Sydney NS from 0740 and 2598 VCP Placentia
NL from 0737, first broadcasts of the local days. However, EiBi shows
sites are really:
pc-Port Caledonia NS 46N11'14"-59W53'59"
sl-St Lawrence NL 46N55'09"-55W22'45"
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. David Crawford, FL, replies to my report of 9330 spy numbers
missing: ``Last HM01 spook report seen here before its redisappearance
was 26 OCT at 0635 Z by Ary. Bauta lost at least one more working
transmitter (9535) in early October. So, HM01 was competing for RHC
resources and losing perhaps, since HM01 long-period-repetitive
content suggests that it is a contingency-only medium now. Not
counting 4765 and 5025, I'm not hearing more than 3 RHC Bauta at a
time just now: routinely 9710, 11760, and 15140, and pop-ups sometimes
on 6100, 9650, 11670, or 11950 within that total. Max RHC+CRI Quivicán
observed here currently is 4, and still zero Bejucal. The trend does
not bode well for the future of RHC shortwave`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, Nov 22 at 0731, JBA S2 in Spanish. Must be RHC way
overtime; their jammers are stronger against nothing, S4/S5 on 11860,
S5 on 11930. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** JAPAN. 7380, Nov 22 at 0727, Western classical M vocal solo with
piano accompaniment, so NHK would not be first guess, but that`s
what`s listed, 07-09, 85 degrees from Yamata for S America in
Japanese. Only other possibility is: various USA pirates in English
irr. 24h per EiBi, but I don`t recall any on 7380. Joe Hanlon
suggested that a higher band would be better for that target, but it`s
fine S9+25/30 to here over a mostly dark path. Other NHK at this time
on 11825 beamed back to Asia is a JBA carrier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Nov 22 at 0748, no signal from R. Kiribati,
which I continue to check almost every night after 0700; last season
this would be the earliest/only ``trans``-Pacific MW carrier audible
here. Probably off, but still must overcome local noise level here.
Need further checking via Oahu remote (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** QATAR [non]. 15385, Nov 22 at 1700, no signal from Al Jazeera TV
sound into Kuwait or UTwente SDRs. First time I`ve looked for it;
first reported by Jorge Freitas, Brasil, in the WOR iog:
``15385 17/November 1747 UNID in Arabic. Almost local signal here in
my QTH. I couldn't find information on any list, not even the newer
HFCC. It went off the air at 1759 without ID, while OM was speaking.
73 Jorge Freitas, Feira de Santana, Bahia 12°14´S 38°58´W -
Brasil, Tecsun PL-660, XHDATA, Antenna Delta Loop and LW 20 meters``

Tarek Zeidan, Cairo, replied Nov 19: ``Hello DXers, The first time we
caught Aljazeera TV audio carrier on SW was on 15th of November around
1130 UT on 15675 with a transmission that lasted till 1400. Later on
that day there was another transmission on 9965 around 1800 but it was
weaker than the previous transmission on 15675. The following day 16th
there was only one transmission on 15385 from 1600 to 1800 and that's
the only transmission we get from Aljazeera TV on SW for the last few
days; but in the meantime they've announced that they started
transmitting to Gaza strip on 93.9 MHz on FM Band. No mention
whatsoever about their SW transmission though I sent them 2 emails to
get the schedule and time of transmissions but in vain. Here's my
recording of the 1600 UT transmission on 18th of November:
https://youtu.be/BheMjVIwYaU?si=Jx8XHA34qgXy9blr
Best 73, Tarek Zeidan, Cairo, Egypt`` Site: believed to be Woofferton UK

And Ron Howard found this from Ali:
``"Al Jazeera Radio from Qatar on shortwave 15385 kHz." (Nov 16) -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9DCDOd3Yws
Ron, San Francisco``

So is it still on the SW air, anywhere? 15385 would be a good choice,
nothing else scheduled on it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Nov 22 at 2307, token English from SNR, VG into
Maryland SDR, extended discourse by some professor about the Palestine
situation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960.005, Nov 22 at 2318, VOT English not off the air,
S9+25/35 into UTwente, `Gripping Piles` on negative environmental
impact of fashion industry, above undercurrent of CCCCCCI. 2322
multi-lingual ID filler reel, and badax reading `Weekly Commentary`
about China`s economy dependent on US investment which is declining;
by someone in Washingtoon DC. 2339 ``with-you-every-hour`` promo. 2340
`Feeling Supreme/The Healing Spring` about benefits of ozone therapy.
2347 song. 2350 another song. They never announce titles or artists,
which is just as well since they would be incomprehensible, just like
most of the writers contributing. 2353 s/off with totally wrong
English schedule: B23 frequencies but local times cited as if they
were UTC; announcess does not engage brain. 6 notes of IS chopped off
at 2355* before can switch to German, uncovering East Turkistan, std
denunciation; and something`s always awry at Ankara, erroneous at
Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2217 monitoring: confirmed UT
Tuesday November 21 at 0130 on WRMI 9395, S9/+20 direct; starts right
after music fill, no ID break. {not 0030 as in original report}

Also confirmed UT Wednesday November 22 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9+15/30
direct.

Wednesday November 22 at 2155 via remote in Maryland I notice that
WBCQ is OFF 7490 again, but its programming has again been shifted to
5130.30, J. P. Ferraro`s show from WHVW in another Trumpbump. So I
hasten to notify WOR and other lists that WOR 2217 should also be on
5130+ this week instead --- NOT: dead air after J.P. finishes, despite
a quick reminder to the boardops, for at least the rest of the
semihour tho by 2250 recheck some music is playing. Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1500 UT Thursday WRMI 9955 to SSE [new; to be confirmed][+webcast;
jammed?]
