Glenn Hauser logs November 29, 2023 |

Thursday, November 30 2023
** CUBA. More and more traditional RHC frequencies are missing, perhaps old transmitters crashing. But still plenty of jamming-against-nothing: Nov 29 at 0740: 5800, 5980, 9565, 11860, 11930. All pulsing but no two sound exactly the same. And likely against something, underneath 6030, 7355, 7435 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Nov 29 at 2300, token English from SNR is sufficient into DX390 with clipon. Previews two features but I don`t get the topix; after news about new government formation, 2308 report about journalists killed in Lebanon. Still nothing heard warning that the English broadcast Mon Dec 4 and everything else will be off the air due to Noblejas power station outage (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TAIWAN. 9405, Wed Nov 29 at 1645, via TWR Delhi SDR, I`m monitoring RTI English when `Status Update` is scheduled, i.e. mailbag show: and there it is, extremely informal M&W chat with laughter about the Thermos bottle company, and how to pronounce Ikea; 1652 finally a letter from India, discussing their 2024 calendar. 1653 briefly SDR gets overloaded with something`s music. 1658 sign-off mentions this 16-17 English to S Asia on 9405, but also 03-04 to SE Asia on 15320, which we suspected was kaput, yet to be reconfirmed by axual monitoring. 9405 makes it direct to N America but I don`t try it today. The ChiCom ban RTI from HFCC; both Aoki & EiBi lack the 15320 English, rather 04-05 only, in Cantonese & Hakka, with only Cantonese jammed, why not those lucky Hakkans? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.005, Nov 29 at 2318, with BFO on the R75 I can tell VOT is not off the air but totally unusable below linenoiselevel of S9+20. No recheck until 2348 VG S9+45 into UTwente during music. 2352 s/off with wrong English sked - times local called UTC, but current B23 frequencies, usual clueless announcer. 2354 IS, chopoff in about a semiminute before 2355 uncovering the CCCCCCI which itself seems to have some weaker musical CCI but nothing else listed; maybe just background from same East Turkistan transmitter, std denunciation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2218 monitoring: confirmed UT Wednesday November 29 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9/+25 into Maryland SDR. I happen to awaken at 1055 Wed Nov 29 so check 5035 USB for WOR 2217 on Unique Radio, Australia. As expected, no trace of a signal from this low-power. Can someone hearing it directedly or remotedly confirm? NOT confirmed Wednesday November 29 at 2200 on WBCQ 7490, for the second week in a row! JP finishes his show and then dead air into NH SDR on 7490 -46 Hz = 7489.954, S9/+10 and seems back up to full strength, FWIW. 5130+ is also DA, and so is the 7490-stream when I give up at 2205 after notifying the boardops again. 2228 direct on R75, 7490- still DA. Next check 2311, gospel huxtering has resumed. Next: 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S 0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW Thanks to Joe Caberlin, Port Colborne, Ontario for some US$ , preferably by MO or check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 Or via PayPal not necessarily in US funds to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 9960, Nov 29 at 0650, R. Vanuatu still here, S4/S5 of talk, and nothing on 7260, back where Manuel Méndez, Spain, found it 24 hours before. He agrees on 9960 resumed tonight, until 0659* presumably switching to 3945 and no harmonix. I`m not always tuning before 0700 to reconfirm (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carriers: Nov 29 circa 0330, 711 kHz; again at 0647 when also detecting 774 & 855 likely Spain, maybe 819? 711 probably Western Sahara (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 26374.84 AM, Nov 29 at 2313, not in the CB, but sounds like a horrible 27+ MHz pileup of hets, some on + side, mainly in extremely colloquial Spanish also playing music (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 0038 UT November 30 Note: dispatch time for previous report should have read: 0023 UT Nov 29 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

** CHINA [and non]. 11790, Nov 28 at 2321, CRI English discussion of US/China relations, better signal and modulation here for SE Asia from x site, than // 5990 Cuba relay (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 11760, Nov 28 at 2320, NO signal on RHC #1 legacy frequency, supposedly scheduled 2100/0600 or beyond, also mornings. Something`s always wrong at RHC. Unfound now on any other 25m channel (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** JAPAN. 13705, Nov 28 at 2315 Japanese language lessons, ``...desu ka`` over and over, with music ditty, during Thai hourthird at 2300-2320, NHK S9/+10 yet off the back, ex-13650 no longer colliding with pointless China/Cuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MADAGASCAR [and non]. 11610, Nov 28 at 2318, S9/+10 of dead air, probably MWV failed to turn off by 2258 after Arabic; they have nothing scheduled 2300/0300 so why not, no hurry? Seemed slightly off-frequency, and adjacent to 11615 Chinese = jamming and/or RFA TINIAN this hour only (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6955 USB, Nov 28 at 2310, rock music with yelling, buried in local line noise level of S9+20 until R75 NB engaged to read S9+10. Many logs here say it`s Thunder Chicken: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,121904.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.005, Nov 28 at 2300, VOT not off the air, but can detect it at S9+10/20 only by engaging the R75 Noise Blanker, otherwise S9+30; still no pleasure to listen. But VG at 2345 into UTwente where exactified. 2347 ``always-by-your-side`` promo, music. 2353 s/off with correct but partial English sked. Something`s always awry at Ankara; 2354 IS; 2356* just in time to avoid pre-German, uncovering the 6CI which was always audible under (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 26110 NBFM, Nov 28 at 1605 UT, not full quieting but audible at S6 peaks above S4/S5 noise level, remote news report and weather segment, no doubt KMK282, the studio audio from KOVR or KMAX, Stockton/Sacramento CA. Also propagating, the K6FRC beacon on 28300 CW. Otherwise I always have a local birdie AM carrier on 26111 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2218 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday November 28 at 0130 on WRMI 9395, S9+25 into Missouri SDR. Also confirmed UT Tuesday November 28 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, poor into Missouri SDR with what sounds like Cuban pulse jamming, not heard otherwise on this frequency. Also confirmed Tuesday November 28 at 1411 and still 1422 the 1400 on WRMI 9955, undermodulated, S7/S9 direct and not cut short like last week. Next: 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB 1030 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB [previous #2217] 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW or 5130v? 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S 0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW Thanks to Joe Caberlin, Port Colborne, Ontario for some US$ , preferably by MO or check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 Or via PayPal not necessarily in US funds to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7489.95 approx., Nov 28 at 2323, WBCQ back on air at S9+20 direct, something in English. Appears the offset-minus primary transmitter has been restored after weak sigs on plus side or none at all (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5085, Nov 28 at 2305, WTWW still active and S9+40/50 direct; after gospel screed, preacher gives date as morning of Nov 26, 2023, i.e. Sunday only two days ago, at Laporte Church of Christ: so instead of decades-old PPPP recordings, something new from SFAW HQ. Also the JBA spur carriers about +/- 13 kHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search of entire band at 9/kHz intervals, November 28 at 0430: only 711 het on 710, and rather strong but no audio pulled. A few years ago, one of the Cuban Rebeldes was thought to be exactly +1 kHz off-frequency, but surely more likely the Moroccan imperialist station in Western Sahara. WRTH 2023 shows 8 Rebeldes on 710 from 1 to 200 kW. The 400 kW Moroccan // on 936 used to be a regular carrier here but has been inactive a few years (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 7555, re my unID noise Nov 24 at 0809, this reply: ``Hi Glenn, I checked 7555 kHz last night from here in Marahau, New Zealand, and while I couldn't see any DRM signal, I did see two adjacent narrower band digital utility transmissions. Vastly different strengths here, but the lesser one (lower in frequency) peaked up around 0730 UTC. The result did look very similar to a DRM signal, but was not. I wonder if that is what you spotted? Cheers, Chris -- Chris Mackerell, Sandy Bay-Marahau Road, Marahau, RD2, Motueka 7197, New Zealand chris@owdjim.gen.nz`` Maybe, but I don`t recall it being unbalanced, rather like normal DRM. This late the computer is closed down so I won`t be trying a remote to tune DRM (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 2323 UT November 29 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

** EGYPT. 9440- nor 9442+, Nov 27 at 2153, no signals into UTwente from R. Cairo during the 2115 English sesquihour. Something`s amiss at Abis, egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** HONDURAS. 28377 USB, Nov 27 at 1611, HQ9X working pileups on same frequency. Again by chance at 2323 working Napa, California. QRZ.com: HQ9X Honduras flag Honduras W1UE K1XM KQ1F CQ WW DX CW Contest 2017 Roatan Island, Honduras ``W1UE, K1XM, KQ1F will be active from Roatan Island, IOTA NA - 057, Honduras, in CQ WW DX CW Contest 25 - 26 November 2017 as HQ9X`` But this is 27 Nov. Still suffering from hi line noise level, worst on LW (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Mon Nov 27 at 2300, token English from SNR, news, 2309 contact info, 2310 interview with a prof from Denmark about importance of oceans, including seabeds with cables, pipelines. Finally stopped giving total B23 transmission sked at outset with no language details, but not yet? with advisory they have been emailing that will be totally off the air, as forwarded by Nino Marabello, Treviso, Italy, to the WOR iog: ``We inform you that on December 4 and 5, Radio Exterior de España will be forced to suspend its shortwave broadcasts. The reason: a cut in the electricity supply, beyond our control, which will affect the shortwave broadcasting center that Radio Exterior has in the town of Noblejas. The stoppage is due to some work that the Unión Fenosa company has to carry out in the electrical substation of that Toledo municipality and that will affect our facilities. Consequently, the shortwave broadcast will be suspended next Monday, December 4 and will continue until Wednesday, December 6, at most, when the signal will resume. We apologize for this incident, completely beyond the control of Radio Exterior de España. THANKS EVERYBODY, GREETINGS. Director of Foreign Radio of Spain`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SWITZERLAND [non]. 17790, Nov 26 at 2100-2200, another C.M. Obrecht music special, as publicized, wider variety of music than he is known for, electronic compositions. With many announcements in German and heavily accented English. Sufficient signal into Brasília SDR, except it times out every 15 minutes, and fake stereo mode SAS enhances. This is via WRMI-7 which is otherwise only for the Radio Africa Network at 15-21, just extended an hour; still on 160-degree beam toward S America, hoping some of it will reach Africa anyway, lacking a long-destroyed proper antenna thataway. At 2200 nevertheless starts to play a R. Africa s/off before chopped (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960.005, Nov 26 at 2317, VOT English not off the air, S9+35 into UTwente; too much else ongoing to pay rapt attention, but a few notes: 2317 ``always-by-your-side`` promo; 2325 `Weekly Analysis` outro; 2329 multi-lingual ID filler reel. Back to the non-squealing +5 Hz transmitter, rather than the +17 Hz squealer yesterday. Harry Shearer tripping over his tongue more than usual as I am concerned about his health; must require multiple takes for his The Simpsons characters. Nov 27 at 2320, 7490 again AWOL; JBA 5130.3 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 3090, Nov 27 circa 0700 and earlier, not a trace of the KBUF KS third harmonic I heard 24 hours before. Apparently totally repaired, but worth further chex just in case along with 2060, 4120, 5150 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** WALES. 24964 USB, Nov 27 at 1617, MW0YVK working Statesiders. ** BOTSWANA. 15585, Nov 26 at 1927, music with poor signal into NC SDR. Tnx to tip from Chris Campbell, OH that VOA was off-frequency instead of 15580, at 1800, 1838. EiBi shows nothing anywhen on 15585, while VOA is sked on 15580 at 0500-0730, 1400-1630, 1730-2100 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CANADA. 2749 USB, Nov 26 at 0730 UT, algo JBA in English, presumed CCG with marine weather; but nothing sked in EiBi or dxinfocentre before 0740, VCO Sydney NS. WORLD OF RADIO 2218 monitoring: confirmed UT Sunday November 26 at 0111, the 0100 on WRMI 9955, S5/S8 into Maryland SDR; S6/9+10 into Bonaire SDR where it`s aimed. Also confirmed UT Sunday November 26 at 0426 about 7 minutes into so started circa 0419, on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, S9/+20. Missed checking Sunday November 26 at 1130 on WRMI 9955, zzz. Did anyone hear it? Weak but steady groundwave with SAH probably from Sapulpa if it`s on. I was checking this out for Mauno Ritola of WRTH, who asked earlier: ``Hi Glenn, do you hear this station? Is it still on operation as "Bluegrass Express"? Thanks, Mauno`` I replied at first: ``Believe I did last time I tuned by. Will have to check in daytime. 73, Glenn`` -- meanwhile Mauno replied: ``Thanks. Later I noticed in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KKLE : "In September 2023, KKLE began airing an all-bluegrass music format, branded as "The Bluegrass Express"", quoting: https://www.sumnernewscow.com/wellington-radio-is-back-on-the-air-kley-and-kwme-are-being-relaunched/ Also reported on the air in October: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tin4bICS_xM So I suppose they still continue, but if you happen to check, please confirm. 73, Mauno`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 3090 kHz, Nov 26 at 0731 UT, S9 pop music in AM --- whoopee, must be a third harmonic from 1030. It`s been ages since I have DXed any such MW harmonic. No other fundamental would be an even fit. This on the E/W longwire which is icy. Soon find // music tuning the DX-398 to 1030, and rough DF for NW/SE. On 1030 only, CCI from a C2C station, no doubt KTWO WY, nothing unusual there. Then refined to country format, 0743 all too brief YL announcement, maybe not an ID, also 0749 between tunes. Also audible weaker on 2060 = 2 x 1030 and 4120 = 4 x 1030; even a JBA carrier on 5150 = 5 x 1030. 6180 unchecked but might soon confront Brasil. Paucity of 1030 stations around here makes KBUF Holcomb = Garden City KS very likely, except in current NRC AM Log it is also a talker. One tune identified at 0746, `The Greatest Man I Never Knew`, by Reba, i.e. her father. But by 0755, 3090 is fading down to S5, and gone by 0800 ToH ID time! Are they tweaking the transmitter? KBUF doesn`t quite make it here on groundwave daytime circa 1730 UT to check whether a format change, JBA carrier vs S9+20 line noise. But: Radio-locator shows address, where else? Valley City ND yet leads to website with streaming: https://www.westernkansasnews.com/kbuf/ and guess what, at 1757 it`s C&W music despite ostensible branding as ``The Ag Leader``. 1800 ID and ABC News, 1805 back to country. 1812 ABC News again but JBM on stream, 1813 blasts on with ID and back to C&W. ``We love being your Ag Leader, KBUF``. 1820, `Sixteen Tons``. Maybe they are mainly C&W on weekends or part time among talk. Website does not link to any program schedule; who cares about that? Going by NRC AM Log, the only C&Ws on 1030 are: WEBS in Georgia, 3 watts at night; and WYCZ in Tennessee, 250. At 1810 I check for harmonix in daytime but none heard (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carriers, Nov 26 at 0507: 621, 711, 891 kHz, checking likely spots below 1200, not 9/kHz complete scan; likely Canary, W Sahara, Algeria. ** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Sat Nov 25 at 1800, LRA36 is already talking, S5/S7 into Argentine remote vs noise level there around S5. Lunch. 1854 next check, no signal. 1915 next2 check, back on with music at S7/S8; 1920 mentions temp of +5 apparently current; over to Eduardo in Misiones; 1925 Noticias Australes.
I still do detect a JBA reduced carrier by off-tuning downwards in USB. And it still sounds marginally better at 15475.98 than 15476 as so many report it, even ignoring the carrier. Further chex but no time to pay attention, still going at 2046, 2200, 2307. 2354 just as I check, an RNASG ID, music. It`s still going past 2400, so by 0006 November 26 I am tuning for it directly via my 100-foot E/W longwire. And there it is, JBA music at S5, its own S the same as the noise level. First time in months I`ve tried for and heard successfully, but for any content still need the Argentine remote. I also check UTwente in Europe, which is now getting it slightly better than I am. K-index of 4 may help. 0024 still detectable at Arg remote but losing out to noise level. BTW, neighbors have already put up their flashing Xmas lights, so we`re in for a sesquimonth of additional RF noise like every yearend (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** FRANCE [and non?]. 6005 & 7555, I am pleased to see that my Nov 24 obs of DRM have already been entered by Nov 25 in: https://www.drmrx.org/drm-broadcasts-shortwave-by-frequency/ Chris Mackerell of WOR affiliate World FM in New Zealand, maintains this (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KIRITIMATI. Ron Howard replies Nov 25 to my latest report about R. Kiribati: ``Glenn - This past week (Nov 19+) I have also been checking 846, here at Asilomar State Beach, and like you, have had no hint of a carrier (0630+ UT). Is probably off the air or running extremely low power? Ron``. GB on `Calling All Radio Nutzzz` also mentioned us about this not being heard as he also dealt with the other Xmas Island in the Indian Ocean. He pronounced K- and K- as if in English rather than approximating `kuh-ris-mas` and `kir-ee-bass` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. RF 17, K17JN-D, Enid`s only local TV signal, has made a lot of changes since it reactivated after a month of black and silence. Taking a close look at the PSIP ID on a larger screen, I see it claims to be K17JI-D!!!! They can`t even get their own callsign right. FCC LMS confirms it`s still K17JN-D, while K17JI-D is in Fresno CA! The lineup is different and differently labeled, checked at 0450 UT Nov 25: 17-1, K17JI-D [sic] = main 3ABN channel 17-2, 3ABN-PR = Proclaim 17-3, skipped, why? 17-4, 3ABN-ES = eSpanish 17-5, 3ABN-KD = Kids = Hope Channel 17-6, skipped, why? 17-7, 3ABN-RD Audio only 17-8, 3ABN-RL Audio only - but silent! 17-9, skipped, why? 17-10, 3ABN-MR Audio only FCC shows it`s licensed until 2030y to Clarion Broadcasting Group, Ltd. Is this a front for 3ABN or a different entity renting to 3ABN? I suppose the same jumbling may apply to many/all other 3ABN satellators. I`ve already sent this to rabbitears.info so we`ll see if and how correxions appear there (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** TAIWAN. 9405, Nov 25 at 1628 S5/S7 of M&W in English, mentioning Taiwan; could this be CRI? No, it`s really RTI as in EiBi at 16-17 for S Asia, and not even jammed. Apparently their last/only English hour as the other one at 03-04 on 15320 has not been listed or confirmed. Wed at 1645 on 9405 is supposed to be `Status Update` as in DX/SWL/Media Programs (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.017, Nov 25 at 2309, VOT is not off the air, going from news to music, S9+40 into UTwente, with a squeal; presumably different transmitter and also further offset than usual. 2315 `Captain`s Log` about a fishing town with a lighthouse on the Bosphorus. 2320 music. 2325 multi-lingual ID filler reel. 2328 `Gripping Piles` on environmental impact of fashion industry, repeat by the badax. 2333 ``always-by-your-side`` promo, music. 2337 `Turkey`s Geomarked [sic] Products`` about processing almonds. The undercurrent from the CCCCCCI is increasing by ratio and the squeal remains annoying. 2340 music. 2344 ``with-you-every-hour`` promo, music. 2349 s/off by badax with usual totally WRONG A23 English times and frequencies. 2351 IS. 2356 restart IS with German IDs twice per minute. 2400 timesignal about 12 seconds early even considering internet delay, opening German, ``Liebe hoerer...``, then chopped off, in time for accurate timesig from East Turkistan, std. denunciation, ChiCom anthem/theme, etc. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. Need to do some full TA carrier bandscans much earlier in evening, but propagation has been degraded lately (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 0048 UT November 26 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
