Sigh, correcting one frequency ref, At 1602, 9550 opens Chinese - not 9585

Glenn

** ALASKA. 9550 & 9585, Dec 18 at 1600, KNLS IS on both! Unusual, but
they do have two transmitters, sometimes both funxional. At 1601,
still IS on 9550, while 9585 is opening Russian. At 1602, 9550 opens
Chinese, pronouncing website in English except some CC word for
``point``: www.smzg.net --- that page worx, but I wonder what SMZG
stands for, transliterated from Chinese, name of station? Main English
site leads to NOT FOUND schedule page!
https://www.worldchristian.org/welcome/who-we-are/how-to-listen/
As I learnt long ago, it`s easier to find a full sked in the Russian
part!
https://www.knls.net/%d1%80%d0%b0%d1%81%d0%bf%d0%b8%d1%81%d0%b0%d0%bd%d0%b8%d0%b5-knls/
All that gibberish is converted from a Russian word I would
transliterate as: raspisanie - which means schedule. Sure enuf, tho
labeled with B23 datespan, it`s contradictory to what I heard: at
1600, Xmtr 1 on 9585 in Russian, but Xmtr 2 shown on 6110 in Chinese
at 16-17; yet 9550 at 15-16 & 17-18! However, HFCC shows 6110 only at
14-15 in English, and at 16-17 the two 9`s. KNLS is known for abrupt
midseason changes, and one of the transmitters failing (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL [and non]. 11749.84 approx., Dec 18 at 2312, music presumed
the always-variable RVM but more than one carrier around here.

Currently something local is putting out very weak carriers every 10
kHz ending in -0 but not exactly, all over the SW bands. Previously
and maybe again later, 10/kHz carriers were appearing near frequencies
ending circa 7. Ideas? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5910, Dec 18 at 0448, CRI relay via CUBA is on in Cantonese,
bigsig obviously on ATS-909 portable; had been missing before, a
couple times. So COLOMBIA remains blocked. This time carrier on until
0500.6*. Something`s not wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Dec 18 at 2308, S9/+10 of Spanish from RHC, this
frequency way overtime, supposedly -2030* after a sesquihour in
English, French. But 15230 supposed to be on, missing. Also on VG //
11760 but no other 25m; 13650 as usual with CRI non-Portuguese relay
of Chinese music only. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** GUAM. 17570, Dec 18 at 2307, S9/+10 direct in Thai? the SSOB and
almost the OSOB! No, it`s similar Khmer as sked from KSDA due west
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MADAGASCAR. 11610, Dec 18 at 2311, S9+10/20 of dead air, no doubt
MWV again failing to turn off after Arabic until 2258. Next broadcasts
not until 0200; wake up! Something`s maladjusted at Mahajanga. BTW, I
see on page 644 in WRTH 2023, two additional names for the site, N.B.,
never referenced in logs, I wonder why: (Belobaka); Amparemahitsy ---
more alliterative alternative temptations (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1210 kHz, Dec 18 at 0701 UT, Town Hall news, S9+38
dominating, promo some far-right extremist talkshow; 0705 ``Five-state
talker, KGYN Guymon`` ID; too modest. Continues to be ND at night
rather than protecting Philadelphia as required; altho we are slightly
off the notch, more like thru Wichita. This explains how someone in
Connecticut DXed KGYN during a WPHT pause. NRC AM Log shows both
branded as ``The Big Talker``. Both also had CBS News, changed? Log
does not show KGYN with THN (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Mon Dec 18 at 2300, token English from SNR VG S9+20/30
direct, also much weaker 12030 and JBA carriers on 17715 & 17755.
Previews topix after news: ``Harry Potter`` exhibition touring Europe
attracting huge crowds; and about some criminal, José Moreno C---
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960.005, Dec 17 at 2314 check, VOT English not off the
air, S9+25/35 into UTwente with multi-lingual ID filler reel.

[non]. 5960.001, Dec 18 at 2300 check direct, VOT English not not off
the air, i.e. is off the air; 2334 UTwente agrees, nothing but the
ChiCom which TRT normally overrides when it`s on. Something`s always
erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 13565 CW, Dec 18 at 1550, beacon K6FRC is JBA -- first time
heard since June 18 at 0703, despite almost daily scans across the ISM
band; otherwise would only get it shortly after CA sunrise. Allegedly
1.8 milliwatts from Patterson CA. Much more regular is a biggersig on
28300 from a different K6FRC/B QTH, Tracy CA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2221 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
December 17 at 2100 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, S9+15 with no
CC QRM unlike Friday, into nearby SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday December 18 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9/+10 but
noisy direct, off side of SW beam; and still no noise blast QRM at
outset.

NOT confirmed UT Monday December 18 at 0400 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160
-68 Hz = 6159.932, S5/S8 into NH SDR: rather, Johnny Lightning on RNI
runs a full hour overtime; includes commercial parodies. 0500 switch
to TOMBS with Alex Scourby Bibleblather. WOR back next week? Next,
this week:

0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW
1400 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?]
0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1200 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB
1230 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB [previous #2220]
1500 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [unsked but confirmed last 2 weeks]
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW or 5130v?
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330, Dec 18 at 0659, nothing but a JBA carrier, presumed
WBCQ very much outpropped, rather than inactive Cuban spy numbers
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 9960, Dec 18 at 0655, RV with island? music and talk,
S3/S5 direct and gone by 0659; 9955 WRMI even weaker. Am usually not
ready to tune before 0700 but hustle tonight to reconfirm RV still
there (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VATICAN [non]. 11895, Dec 18 at 2314, 1 kHz tone test, 2315 VR IS a
bit and off*. Scheduled Vietnamese via USAGM Tinang, PHILIPPINES,
*starting at 2315-2400*. For now, suspended violation of Separation Of
Church And State, but probably came back, unchecked further (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED [and non]. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier check, Dec 18 at
0706, only 891, audible het against 890s, among the regular spots. Not
only WLS but CCI seems Spanish, likely CUBA 200 kW rather than several
low-powered Unitedstatesians (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9096 approx., Dec 18 at 1538 echoey tones S9+20, like a
log amid the 7 MHz band some weeks ago. No carrier to measure
precisely (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, LRA36 continued from last report when
it was still going Dec 17 at 0039: next check 0055 at Argentine
remote, it`s off. Several WOR iog members in N America were getting it
direct all afternoon, but I didn`t try this time; Doug White, KA5ETS
in Carrboro NC says it went off abruptly at 0046:30*.

BTW, at 2113 Dec 16 I reconfirmed it`s not pure USB as some apparently
think, rather with a JBA very reduced carrier which can be perceived
on the remote by off-tuning to 15475.00 USB. Not even enough for SAM -
synch mode to zero in on it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. Re 2598 & 2749 USB: ``Escoumins is the originator,
contradicting the monitored delay. Google cannot translate Escoumins
from French; perhaps a proper name``

``"Its name has traditionally been recognized to come from the
Montagnais iskomin, meaning "where there are many seeds" or "there are
fruits or seeds", in turn from the roots isko or ishko ("as far as
this/that") and min (red seeds, or wild berries in general). According
to more recent theory, it could also be a variation of the Mi'kmaq
term eskumunaak, meaning "lookout place". In addition, other sources
say that the place is named Essipit in Montagnais, meaning "river of
shells"."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Escoumins,_Quebec

Note that in NB, we have a village called Escuminac, with Canada's
largest inshore fishing vessel harbour. It is also the location of one
of the permanent government GNSS stations and a tide gauge. -- Richard
Langley`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** FRANCE. 6000-6005-6010, Dec 17 at 0812, DRM noise at S9. Must be
TDF testing again this hour only, as I first discovered Nov 24; 350
degrees per drmrx.org (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** INTERNATIONAL INTERNET. Special Holiday Programming: While it would
be nice if it were spread out more during the year, now`s the time for
some great music, not just overdone traditional Xmas carols,
especially by some webcasting public radio stations. Two of the best
for starters:

KQAC Portland: add 8 hours for UT:
https://www.allclassical.org/programs/holiday-programming23/

WUOT Knoxville: add 5 hours for UT:
https://www.wuot.org/2023-24-holiday-specials

Here are some more:

KRPS Pittsburg KS: add 6 h for UT:

KWGS & KWTU Tulsa OK: add 6 h for UT:

(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 660, Dec 17 at 0757 music, 0758 ``Esto es ABC Deportes``,
rock music in English, 0801 full ID as ``XHGBO 92.1, Monterrey, Grupo
Radio ---``. Next song sounds like ABBA. IRCA Mexican log shows XEFZ,
10/1 kW at 1200-0600 only. GBO must stand for General BravO, location
of the FM. Another late nite, KTNN was dominating the channel, not
now. It`s a ``sports`` station with music instead of that (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 770, Dec 17 at 0754 ``Música W`` ... ``Mambo #5`` song in
English; 0800 ``W Radio Zacatecas`` ... ``24 horas`` ... ``-- media``.
W is always pronounced ``doble-ú``. Dominating frequency at first even
on E/W longwire. IRCA Mexican Log shows it`s XEFRTM, Fresnillo, 10/1
kW, W Radio sometimes // XEW 900 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 17, Dec 17 at 1554 UT and beyond, K17JN-D is off the
air again, Enid`s only local TV signal with 3ABN multichannels. Am
sure it was still nominal as of yesterday, and with mis-ID as K17JI-D.
Fails periodically and may be off or black silence for weeks at a
time. We shall see (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2221 monitoring: confirmed UT
Sunday December 17 at 0100 on WRMI 9955, S8/S9 but noisy into
Argentine SDR I already have running for LRA36. Blitzortung shows no
nearby storms, only in NW SAm.

Missed checking 0415v UT Sun Dec 17 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM; anyone hear
it, when?

Also missed checking 1130 Sun Dec 17 on WRMI 9955; anyone hear that?

Subject: [HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs December 16-17, 2023

UNIDENTIFIED. 15710.1, Sat Dec 16 at 1611, JBA talk clearly
off-frequency. Nothing in EiBi or Aoki, but latest HFCC shows on day 7
only = Saturday, and just effective from last week Dec 9:
15710 1600 1630 48W ISS 500 127 0 217 7 091223 300324 D 17400 Amh F
RMI TDF 4620 Moresh

What about WRMI`s own skedgrid, the TDF relays at the bottom? Not
shown, but two *other* Amharix at 1600-1630:
Oromia Public Media 17575 M/W/F
Amharic Radio International 17685 Mon-Sat
and Moresh only at a different time:

Moresh Voice of Amhara International Radio 0400-0430 9590 Tue/Thu/Sat

All effective from 29 Oct = start of B23 season. Offfrequencinessplus
is a big clue that it`s typically ISS, like 9490+ for R República. So
is that it? (Glenn Hauser, OK, OR)
