** GERMANY [and non]. Gruß an Bord underway from 1800 UT Dec 24 - the annual greetings for German mariners from Norddeutscher Rundfunk via SW relays:
The lineup via AER El Dial: 1800-2100 en la ISS de 6030 250 kW / 251 grados al Atlántico Noreste 1800-2100 en TAC de 6080 100 kW / 301 grados a Europa 1800-2100 en 9635 NAU 250 kW / 130 grados al Océano Índico 1800-2100 en 11650 ISS 250 kW / 148 grados a Atlántico/Océano Índico ( S.Af ) 1800-2100 en 13725 NAU 250 kW / 205 grados al Atlántico Sur 1800-2100 en 15770 100 kW / 044 grados al Atlántico Noroeste Checking UTwente from 1803: 6080 via Uzbekistan best as to be expected, aimed back toward Europe; axually 6079.980, S9+10/20. German talk and audience applause, unseems synchro with 6030, 9635. 15770 WRMI via Maryland SDR is *not* //, rather novelty song in English. IIRC, previous years the WRMI relays were also upmessed. By 1820, 15770 has joined, in German. Mostly German talk the next sesquihour. Direct check at 1826: 15770 VP, 11650 JBA. Inadvertent German lesson: correct name apparently as above. If it were Greetings, plural, it would be Grüße = Gruesse (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. UT Sun Dec 24 circa 0040-0215 UT, our annual pilgrimage to Xmas FM sound-and-light shows in Enid, the same two locations as several previous years: NE corner of Oak & Oakwood, ex-oil well vacant lot with the Singing Xmas Trees on 89.5 MHz, *very* part 15, could not even hear it until less than a block away. Includes Chipmunx song - Alvin!! The other one is in the Pheasant Run Golf Course neighborhood, on the western edge of Enid off Garland, on 94.9 MHz with much greater range of a few blox; a residence with Pistol Pete OSU mascot, tree lights, etc., flashing along with music variety, especially Mannheim Steamroller. Certainly no one else is going to `DX` these, but I find them an interesting media twist, and wish others would describe such FMy shows near them (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** U K [non]. 21630, Dec 24 at 1559, BBC with Bow Bells, 1600 JIP `Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols` - how rude: Ascension should have started an hour earlier for this annual live broadcast. Presumably also on 25900 from UK, too weak to tell. Both ordinarily open at 1600. But I`ve already been hearing it L&C in $ tereo via WUOT Knoxville stream from 1500. About the only church service I`m willing to tolerate, because of the beautiful music, a redeeming quality. Some stations repeat FONLAC, such as KWTU Tulsa, UT Dec 25 at 0400; or even Xmas morning (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 400 kHz MCW, Dec 24 at 0806, AHQ, a 25-watt NDB at Wahoo, Nebraska, which is just west of Omaha. Heard before but it`s been a long time, Nov 6, 2021. Manages to overcome the S9+20 local noise level. Several other intriguing carriers but none readable except: 329 kHz MCW, Dec 24 at 0801, PMV, 25-w NDB at Plattsmouth NE. 293 kHz, FBY, 25 watts at Fairbury NE, no sign of it lately in numerous tunebys, wonder if still on air? Used to be most reliable Nebraskan. Classaxe says it`s 50 watts, last logged Dec 5, 2023 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2222 monitoring: confirmed UT Sunday December 24 at 0100 on WRMI 9955, presumably, as heard by recording of webstream while out on Xmas FM monitoring. Also confirmed, UT Sunday December 24 starting at 0535 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+18 into nearby remote, very late after nominal 0415. Missed zzz checking the Sun Dec 24 at 1130 on WRMI 9955; anyone hear it? Re: ``3265.149, Dec 23 at 0201, WBCQ as `AAAWWW` is running way overtime. Just now checked as he mentioned ``3265`` was now testing on air, nowhere near full 50 kW power, maybe exciter only. But I find it quite strong into NH SDR, S6/S8 and as good or better than 7490! Hal Turner finally JIP at 0203`` Uncle Bill responds: ``I checked with the station on this myself because I found the signal strength for 3265 disturbing - turns out it was running on a 1 kW backup`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1955 UT December 24 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Sunday, December 24 2023
** ALGERIA. 17600, Dec 23 at 1641, Af/ME music at S7/S9, the SSOB one unit better than 17790 WRMI. Aoli & EiBi show Ifrikya FM, site Béchar, long hours 07-20 UT. EiBi including 8 minutes of English at 1900. A good spot for music (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Sat Dec 23 not checked direct until 1957 when there is no signal. But into two Argentine remotes, about same S7 level vs continuous background noise. 2027 CQ and ``Radio Boletín Antárctico``, hardly Breaking News but noting anniversaries: a crutch for programming ideas; if there is a chronology of stuff happening, there is an odd anniversary almost every day, no matter how insignificant. 2036 Morse code and back to music. Next check at 2336, still going with music, and 0010+ Dec 24; 0014 multilingual RNASG ID (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 5910, Dec 23 at 0357, CRI relay is S9+30/40 but JBM in English. 6000, Dec 23 at 0358, RHC is S9+25/35 but suptorted in English. Somethings` always wrong at RadioCuba and RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, Dec 23 at 1645, JBA carrier, presumably RHC as nothing else is scheduled. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6875 USB, Dec 23 at 2320, music vs high storm noise level from across all of west Texas. Many reports here as Radio 48 via MRI: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,123045.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Dec 23 at 2322, VOT not off the air, `The Captain`s Log` and theme. Could be opening or closing like all shows playing exactly same announcement at start and finish. Direct, vs heavy storm noise from west Texas (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Correcting the time: 2145 not 2245; MTIA is at 2105-2200: 11720, Fri Dec 22 at 2145, VOA with last part of `Music Time in Africa` unusually interviewing an opera singer, Justin Austin. Too much talk, too little music. Not clear what the African connexion be, unless he`s Black, as is obviously American, born in Germany, military brat? Good signal from Grimesland via a mid-America remote. Tnx to tip from Alan Roe`s holiday programming schedule (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [non]. 13750, Dec 23 at 1647, S6/S9 of Swahili, the SSOB extracontinental, and the OSOB except algo on 13830. Discounting intracontinentals on 13820, 13845. It`s VOA via SAO TOME, this semihour only (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2222 monitoring: confirmed UT Saturday December 23 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, S5/S7 into Maryland SDR offbeam. Also confirmed Saturday December 23 at 1700 & 2030 on WRN North America webcast. At 2030 also on WRMI webcast only, coincidence? Also confirmed Saturday December 23 from 2029 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, Wentzville MO, S9+18 into nearby Warrenton SDR, which tends to skip/hiccup a lot making it nonuseful for continuous program listening. Next: 0100 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?] 0330vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0415; as late as 0600] 1130 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 [also webcast, phonecast; jammed by Cuba?] 2100 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW 0400vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW 0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW 1400 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?] 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1200 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB [Unique Radio on Operational Break, this week only but still streaming] 1230 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB [previous #2221] 1500 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [unsked but confirmed last 3 weeks] 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW or 5130v? 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S 0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW Thanks this week for a generous quarterly check on the Winter Solstice, from Gerald T. Just now checked as he mentioned ``3265`` was now testing on air, nowhere near full 50 kW power, maybe exciter only. But I find it quite strong into NH SDR, S6/S8 and as good or better than 7490! Hal Turner finally JIP at 0203 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 730, Dec 23 at 0750 UT, classical music, a surprise as no stations are overtly so formatted; pause and more as if album cuts. Not recognizable as ``holiday`` or ``religious`` but maybe, and/or anomaly for The Season. Would KKDA Korean TX or XEX Deportes CDMX do this? On 730, no CBC/SRC nor any US public radio stations (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0019 UT December 24 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Saturday, December 23 2023
** CHILE. 28445 USB, Dec 22 at 2309, CB32T calling QRZ and making quick contacts including USA, name Kiko? Occasional CCI talkovers. Almost the OSOB, except for unID weaker 28425 USB, and no beacons. QRZ.com gives us a lot more info than heard; never mentioned Club Traiguén:
``CB32T Chile flag Chile CONMEMORACIÓN 32 AÑOS RADIO CLUB TRAIGUÉN P.O BOX 150, TRAIGUÉN 4730000, Chile El Radio Club Traiguén extiende una cordial invitación a participar en la celebración de su 32 aniversario, durante la cual se activará el indicativo especial CB32T. Este evento se llevará a cabo del 15 al 22 de diciembre, abarcando todas las bandas de HF y 6 metros...`` https://www.qrz.com/db/CB32T So this is final day of event. Where is Traiguén? ``a city and commune in Malleco province, Araucanía region``. Google map shows inland north of Temuco. I guess that`s the one; same name applied to some other places. There is also a namesake island (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6872 USB, Dec 22 at 2319 music, 2320 SSTV beepery, 2322 back to Xmasmx, no announcements heard. More unID reports here, also earlier on 6870 USB and there were separate logs on 6871 LSB: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,122950.0.html SSTV images of chickens, so obvious question, Thunder Chicken Radio? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** RUSSIA. 7602 CW, Dec 22 at 0439, long message seems to be repeating between pauses, starts RLO DE RIT. Signal is fluttery as if from afar and aurorally affected. R- implies Russia, of course. I get six hits by searching the UDXF iog on RIT 7602; from 2009y to 2022y, including ``Russian Navy - Northem Fleet HQ, Severomorsk CW RIT Wkg RLO``; ``The schedules for these messages are: 0900z 1200z 1800z 2100z. Frequencies noted being used for these messages are: 4433, 4807, 4973, 5753 and 7602`` -- so RLO is the station called but not heard, location unknown. Severomorsk is just NE of Murmansk in extreme NW Russia near Finland and Norway, inlet from the Arctic Ocean. BTW, the code presumably includes unfamiliar Cyrillic letters (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Fri Dec 22 at 2300, token English from SFR, VG direct; after news, long interview with someone of a costume company you`ve never heard of, but seen their stuff in movies or on stage; 2325 over to Lebanon correspondent about Xmas in the ME (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.005, Dec 22 at 2347, VOT English not off the air, S9+30/40 into UTwente at ``with-you-every-hour`` promo, music. 2352 ``W-Y-E-H`` promo *again*, s/off with correct but incomplete B23 sked, overlooking this very broadcast, IS; something`s always awry at Ankara. 2356 IS restarts with German IDs; <0000 Dec 23, timesignal ends a few sex early even considering internet delay, s/on extraneous German, news starts a bit before 0001, usw. 0034 still going with music. 0043 multilingual ID filler reel. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. At least modulation is OK, but makes the ChiCom JBA underneath. Not off till about 0055* as if intentional extension (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 11720, Fri Dec 22 at 2245, VOA with last part of `Music Time in Africa` unusually interviewing an opera singer, Justin Austin. Too much talk, too little music. Not clear what the African connexion be, unless he`s Black, as is obviously American, born in Germany, military brat? Good signal from Grimesland via a mid-America remote. Tnx to tip from Alan Roe`s holiday programming schedule (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2222 monitoring: confirmed Friday December 22 at 2158 just in time the 2130 on IRRS SW via AM Italia 1323 kHz, good trans-Europe into UTwente with no Romania or other QRM. Likewise tail of WRMI 2130 on internet only. Also confirmed Friday December 22 at 2300 on WRMI 9955, but I was really listening to webcast. Next: 0130 UT Saturday WRMI 5850 to NW 2030vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM 0100 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?] 0330vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0415; as late as 0600] 1130 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 [also webcast, phonecast; jammed by Cuba?] 2100 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? Pollard, Raleigh NC, on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated, or via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. (9955), Fri Dec 22 at 2200-2259, WRMI webcast with `Over the Horizon Radio` Xmas special with music from various countries, some obscure. DJ also voices frequent Icom ads. Never said his name and if he gave it at end, that was chopped short for a `WeLoveShortwave` fruitcake! ad. Also has several other times on skedgrid as OTH Radio. Programming page names him Larry Deyoe; offers lots of QSLs but no SDRs (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WBCQ chex ahead of `AAAWWW`, Dec 23 at 0057: 5130.264, ATTATT via NH SDR; 7490 -37 Hz = 7489.963, FKB via Maryland SDR. But at 0058 there`s an echo, as T**** has been Dumped from 5130! 0059 already hearing AW interjexion before ID; 0100 WTO theme; 0101 talx over it with yuletide refs, so must be a new one. 0103 says it`s 12 degrees so he must be in ME, then Angela on phone must remain back in FL (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 3215, Dec 22 at 0439, WWCR-1 modulation sounds moreorless backtonormal, rather than suptorted. Perhaps my obs of the last few nights got to them (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic just barely audible MW carrier check, Dec 22 at 0748: only 891 kHz in non-exhaustive bandscan. usual 1 kHz het upon WLS. Surely ALGERIA, about as late as it can be on shortest dayofyear. Site Ouyed Falet is not included in the extensive locality list at gaisma.com, but it`s just west of Algiers, so what`s the sunrise time there? 0657 UT. With 300 kW it can still be propagating westward less than an hour after LSR. Latest will become in a biweek, 0702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0126 UT December 23 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

** CUBA. 6000, Dec 21 at 0430, RHC S9+30, English, undermodulated and attracting local hum level as other very strong sigs. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 408 kHz MCW, Dec 21 at 0437, JDM is JBA, 25 watt NDB from Colby KS in the NW corner, nickname `Wheatfield`. Altho there is now zero Blitz stormnoise across North America, I am still hearing hardly any MW/LW beacons - not even 332 IC Wichita, and nothing from Canada. JDM is seldom heard; probably my unIDs Dec 10 at 0419, and Nov 5, 2023 at 0311. Last definite log was Nov 13, 2021 at 0715, when I added: My previous log from 2020y bears repeating: ```408-MCW kHz, Oct 18 at 0643 UT, JDM, 25-watt NDB at Colby - Wheatfield, Kansas. One wonders how a call with no connexion to the listed location came about? So I try searching on JDM Colby, finding ``Colby Howard Lands at JD Motorsports For Majority of 2020`` about NASCAR - that`s a stretch! Further down are linx to JDM as NAVAID, but no call significance. Even further down, there is a JDM Enterprises, LLC, in Colby among 55 other places: https://opencorporates.com/companies/us_ks/8804627 but what does it do?`` Do they have a private airstrip in Colby?``` I had also logged it a number of times earlier in 2020y but not before (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non].
