6160 NORTH KOREA. Pyongyang Broadcasting Station, 1145 to 1215, 18
May, KOREAN. Little slow ballad sung by female vocalist. Female
announcer at 1159 followed by time pips. Possible news at 1200 read by
male. News lasted until 1205 when there was a return to music. A
dramatic reading of some sort took place at 1215. SINPO 33333.

via Ulan Bataar bcast center, accompanied by +/- 100 and 200 Hertz
audio BUZZ tone strings noted on screen. wb.

12084.88 MONGOLIA. V. o Mongolia – Ulaanbataar, 0934, Mongolian to
EAs. Barely audible at first with male talking, probably news or
commentary. Pop song at 0939. Strengthened slightly by 0950. Once upon
a time, this was a regularly good signal in SE Australia but not so
much these days! Checked and confirmed via the FlyDog SDR, Oita,
Japan. Best heard on my 30m full-wave vertical delta loop, May 19.

I suspect this is related to high-speed trading in the stock, bond and futures markets. A number of large financial institutions have noted that there are brief differences in the prices of various financial instruments between the various markets -- for example, NY and Chicago. If they can act fast enough, they can buy in the cheaper market and sell at a profit in the more expensive market before the differences iron themselves out. These institutions have invested a lot in high-speed internet connections between their offices physically near the various markets so they can exploit these differences. Looks like someone is going to try to speed things up by using a SW radio link. Note that the FCC applications were filed with a request for confidential treatment of certain details.
