Per i nisseni è uno dei simboli della storia della città ma, se la
Soprintendenza ai Beni Culturali non farà dietro front, sarà
smantellato, già a partire da domani. L’antenna Rai di Caltanissetta,
entrata in funzione nel 1951 per trasmettere il segnale radio sui paesi
che si affacciano sul Mediterraneo, è la struttura più alta d’Italia.

Un impianto spento da 17 anni
Gestito nell’ultimo periodo da Rai Way, l’impianto è stato spento il 9 
agosto 2004, a causa del progressivo calo dell’audience dalle Am 
(modulazione di ampiezza) e per l’alto costo di mantenimento degli 
impianti. Considerata un’opera di altissimo ingegno sorge sulla collina 
Sant'Anna, misura 286 metri di altezza, poggia su una sfera di ceramica 
e sembra una matita con la punta in basso.
Niente vincoli
Adesso la soprintendenza ai Beni Culturali in una nota ha dichiarato che 
non esistono vincoli né paesaggistici, né culturali, e domani, lunedì 22 
novembre, così come comunicato da Rai Way, inizierà lo smantellamento.
Gli ambientalisti
Le associazioni ambientaliste Italia Nostra, Wwf Sicilia, Legambiente e 
il comitato Parco Antenna Sant'Anna hanno diffidato, da tempo, la 
soprintendente Daniela Vullo a revocare entro 48 ore i pareri emessi e, 
qualora ciò non dovesse avvenire, adiranno le vie legali. «È un’antenna 
che non trasmette più - spiega il presidente Legambiente di 
Caltanissetta Ivo Cigna - e quindi non inquina, ha un alto valore 
storico culturale e insiste su una collina di straordinaria bellezza. Da 
tempo proponiamo tra le altre ipotesi quella di costruire un museo delle 
telecomunicazioni. In questo momento esistono due cordate di 
imprenditori interessate a questo sito. È stata avanzata anche un’altra 
ipotesi: poiché il Mediterraneo sta diventando luogo di eventi 
meteorologici estremi, gli enti di ricerca sarebbero interessati a 
utilizzare la cima dell’antenna per fare un luogo di ricerca e studio. 
Sarebbe l’unico presente nel Mediterraneo».
Lo scrittore
«Sono totalmente contrario allo smantellamento dell’Antenna Rai di 
Caltanissetta», dice Enzo d’Antona, giornalista nisseno, ex direttore de 
La Città di Salerno e de Il Piccolo, autore del libro «Gli spaesati», 
che ha definito l’antenna di proprietà di Ray Way un «grosso elemento 
identitario della città». Per d'Antona «nessun nisseno sarà favorevole 
allo smantellamento, per noi è un simbolo. È talmente alta che anche se 
ti trovi nei pressi della Valle del Salso o in autostrada la noti e a 
ogni nisseno che tornava da fuori si apriva il cuore nel rivederla. Ti 
annunciava l’arrivo nella tua città. Negli anni ci sono stati tanti 
progetti e proposte. Poiché ha dei tiranti, c'era anche stata la 
proposta di fare un albero di Natale visibile da tutta la Sicilia, però 
vedo un difetto di volontà da parte delle istituzioni, anche da parte 
della Regione. Questi sono simboli identitari».
D'Antona lancia una proposta: «Perché non considerarla bene culturale di 
archeologia industriale? Di per sé - prosegue lo scrittore - è un 
monumento di questo tipo. Purtroppo quello che si sta verificando è 
successo per tante costruzioni di tipo industriale. Già a Caltanissetta 
è successo per la sede storica della Fiat in viale della Regione, 
bellissima, un esempio rarissimo di archeologia industriale, fu 
abbattuta. Se vogliono abbatterla che facciano un referendum e chiedano 
ai cittadini. La lascerei così com'è perché di per sé è un simbolo, un
