Glenn Hauser logs February 21, 2024  View Printable Version
Thursday, February 22 2024

Logs
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RCUSB, Feb 21 at 2057 tune-in via Argentine
remote, LRA36 already on air with music; advance publicity of a test
today at 21-22; perhaps at a time earlier than 23 for convenience of
Europeans. It`s S7 with roar, which stops at 2100 for s/on in the
clear, then multi-lingual LRA36 ID, songs; 2105 & 2111 multi-lingual
RAE IDs instead. Aside from those, seems all-music. They are asking
for reports and evaluating quality. No signal direct at 2136 check and
not further monitored as it`s nap-time.

I can`t blame RAE for involving with this, but continues to raise the
question of why can`t they get back on air with new/powerful SW
transmitter(s) in the real Argentina? Not that we`re eager to hear
more from the wacko new government (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. 15415, Feb 21 at 2314, JBA carrier, presumably temporary
reactivation of ZYE955 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15230, Feb 21 at 2318, S9+10 but breaking-up, or -in just
barely modulation. Something`s always wrong at RHC. The Other Side:

``Is there a humanitarian crisis in Cuba? In DIARIO DE CUBA, three
experts discuss the aptness of the term to describe the situation on
the island. --- Yusimí Rodríguez López, Madrid 19 Feb 2024 - 22:17
CET``
https://diariodecuba.com/cuba/1708377460_52964.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9439.995v, Feb 21 at 2125 into UTwente, no signal from R.
Cairo. I have been checking this almost every day during the English
sesquihour, but always nothing as it`s apparently totally off the air
while supposedly making repairs to Something`s Amiss at Abis (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GERMANY [non]. 15215, Feb 21 at 1527, JBA signal here which would
be KSDA Guam in Kannada, 1530 Hindi. Recheck direct at 1559* just as
that goes off. 1600 still no signal from R. Öömrang (Amrum), annual
hour via FRANCE. Cuts on late at *1600:50 VG S9/+15 but just barely
modulated! 1606 I bring up Maryland SDR to find it also S9/+15 and JBM
but somewhat readable by turning volume way up. There is also
continuous weaker clatter underneath, OTHR? It`s all in German or
maybe Frisian bits until 1623 ID in English. Brief English segments
explaining what`s being discussed, 1635 mentions WW II, also at 1642,
1654. 1637 recheck direct, still JBM unreadable. 1640 German ID with
frequency, contact info, 1641 same in English, 500 kW. 1643 YL voice
and others with background noises. 1657 full ID in English as R.
Amrum, starts German but chopped off air incomplete at 1658*. A few
years ago something went wrong with this and there was a make-good a
few days later. They should be entitled to that again, with normal
modulation! For this traditional once-a-year event, you`d think TDF
would make sure to get it right the first time. With this and other
monitored problems, why would anyone risk buying time on Issoudun?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 27185 AM, Feb 21 at 2313, CB skip pileup while no local
relay of K288FX gospel music from 105.5. You never know if or when
this will happen nor which station will be relayed. This appeared on
HCDX at 2138 UT Feb 21, as if in reply to my previous inquiry, but
avoid being explicit about that: ``27185 khz AM checked frequently on
February 19 & 20. No music noted among the considerable CB skip. Bill
Smith, Douglas, MA`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. Tropo up Feb 21, Enid on western edge of blobs as
predicted by
https://tropo.f5len.org/north-america/north-america-west-coast/
We are hardly on the west coast but this is the map including OK area
and almost as far east as the Mississippi River. -- while the APRS
maps I habitually checked first have been blank for several days
worldwide! Do others see them that way? https://vhf.dxview.org/
A third VG site is predictive only:
https://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo.html

I start DTV STB tuning at 1625 UT and find many BAD signals on `open`
hi-VHF and UHF channels. Local K17JN-D, mislabeled ``K17JI-D``, is BAD
due to DX QRM, presumably full-power KTEN Ada. Only decodes are RF 20
KQCW 19-1 Muskogee/Tulsa mkt, and TBN-HD, no further ID, on RF 36.
Checking FCC TV Query, that is surely KDOR Bartlesville. Both fade by
1700.

BTW I see in rabbitears.info that K17JN-D listing has still not been
updated with my latest monitored info which I also sent directly to
`Trip` -- wonder if he would rather not be contradicted? I continue to
find his website invaluable, except for this (Glenn Hauser, Enid,
WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690: Reply to my Feb 19 log of SNR English closing with
song ``La Flaca``: ``Hello Glenn, I heard the same program on REE
yesterday and just saw your log in the IO group. I remember buying the
Jarabe de Palo (medicine from Palo?) CD back in 1996. The name of
their first album was La Flaca, the skinny girl, I presume. It
actually has some really good acoustic and harder rock songs on it.
It's been a long time favorite of mine.

I even remember being at a baseball game in Ciudad Obregón, México
around 2003 and they were playing Jarabe de Palo on the speaker system
in between innings. I started singing along and my Mexican work
colleagues were quite amazed that I knew who Jarabe de Palo was. I was
very saddened yesterday to learn that the lead singer had died. He had
a really great voice. Regards, Chris Campbell, Columbus, Ohio`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Feb 21 at 2300, token English from SNR, initially
sufficient on DX-390 with a few meters clipped-on. Preview topic to be
about the European Cyber-Security Act, required by increasing
cyber-attacks. 2301 news; 2306 feature. 2307 signal fades down
considerably. That correlates very nicely with this from SWPC a few
minutes later:

``Space Weather Message Code: SUMX01
Serial Number: 137
Issue Time: 2024 Feb 21 2321 UTC
SUMMARY: X-ray Event exceeded X1
Begin Time: 2024 Feb 21 2252 UTC
Maximum Time: 2024 Feb 21 2307 UTC
End Time: 2024 Feb 21 2314 UTC
X-ray Class: X1.8
Location: N14E39
NOAA Scale: R3 - Strong
NOAA Space Weather Scale descriptions can be found at
www.swpc.noaa.gov/noaa-scales-explanation
Potential Impacts: Area of impact consists of large portions of the
sunlit side of Earth, strongest at the sub-solar point. Radio - Wide
area blackout of HF (high frequency) radio communication for about an
hour.`` Well, it was certainly not totally blacked out here for an
hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.003, Feb 21 at 2311, JBA carrier direct and
a slightly stronger JBA carrier on 9610; which is VOT? By 2334 I check
UTwente, when measured. VOT 5960 is VG S9+40, something else on 9610
presumably China, unlike yesterday. 2340 weekly report about
something. I refuse to strain to try to understand what the badax is
saying; besides, I`m mainly attentive to BBC World News America on
OETA 13/13. 2351, two-minute multi-lingual ID filler reel. 2354, s/off
for 1330 broadcast only. 2354.6, IS starts. 2355.3* chop off air
uncovering XJRTV in Chinese, std genocidal denunciations (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2230 monitoring: ``From: Richard
Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening
Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees.
Dear Glenn: Update, confirming WOR #2230, WRMI:
5850, 0144, 0145, 0159 (55444), 0159, February 17 UTC 2024 [Sat]
9395, 0030, 0045, 0058 (4-55433),(55433), 0059, February 21 [Wed]
(Lemke, Richard -AB)``

Confirmed UT Wednesday February 21 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S6/S8 into
Missouri SDR.

Also confirmed Wednesday February 21 at 1525 the secret 1500 on WRMI
9955, S9/S5 direct.

Also confirmed Wednesday February 21 at 2053 the 2030 on SW Radio,
Germany, 3975.001, S9/+10 into UTwente.

In order not to interrupt my nap, I started recording WBCQ 7490- via
Maryland SDR for half an hour from 2132, as `Pirate Joe Extravaganzo`
was underway OK. However I later find that he was cut to dead air at
2159, no ID and no WOR for at least a couple minutes. My next check
was direct-only at 2227 with reception so bad that I could not be sure
my voice could be heard then, either. Did anyone notice what happened
during the entire semihour? Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975

As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated. Thanks this
week to Bob Zerilli, Hazlet NJ, for a contribution via PayPal to
woradio at yahoo.com - in US funds but not necessarily, and says,
``Thanks for your SWL dedication. I`m a longtime SWL and appreciate
you being out there``

One may also contribute via MO or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** YEMEN [non]. Wolfgang Bueschel quotes my report and inserts
additional info which I did *not* say, such as Riyadh site. I don`t
know whether it`s Jeddah but am willing to accept his info: but
beware, I didn`t say that! Likewise ``excile radio`` as it`s spelt
exile:

``SAUDI ARABIA {Saudi army target radio and non YEMEN excile radio} --
11819 kHz approx., Febr 20 at 1527 UT, roar at S7/S8, the totally de-
fective Sa'udi transmitter for Republic of Yemen Radio. Even
worse, also direct, at 2250 UT, S=9+10dB, maybe a hint of program
audio in the mush with USB tuning. Something's sorry in Riyadh Sa'udi
Arabia. (Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, wor Febr 21) [and he adds:]

11820.070 kHz likely centered carrier fqy, of strong BUZZ roar QRM
signal on excile radio of 'Republic of Yemen Radio' via Riyadh
broadcast center. 27 x major 120 Hertz distance audio strings visible
in audio block range 11818.400 to 11821.770 kHz and minor strong
strings in range 11815.240 to 11824.640 kHz. S=9+35dB strength noted
in backlobe at 1350 UT on Febr 21. Nothing on air on 11820v – nor on
11860v in 01 – 03 UT slot on Febr 21. [selected SDR options, span 12.5
kHz RBW 15.3 Hertz] (wb df5sx, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews Febr 21)``

11820, Feb 21 at 2319 another check direct, same horrible buzz but in
AM mode, traces of some music (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED [and non]. More intriguing ND beacon carriers at least vs
noise level:
251 kHz, Feb 21 at 0644 UT, probably 100-watt AM, Amarillo TX, heard
before.
305 kHz, Feb 21 at 0645, probably 150-watt RO, Roswell NM, heard
before; only one other USA listed, OI, 25 watts in Sioux City IA.
326 kHz, Feb 21 at 0646, I do make out an ID as MA, which is 400 watts
from MidlAnd TX; but tuned to 324 USB where nothing is listed (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** BRAZIL. 15415.00, Feb 20 at 2253, JBA signal, presumably R. Clube
de Ribeirão Preto, long inactive. Has been reported reactivating, not
to be a SW station again, but to become eligible for a second FM
frequency to replace it in the `AM to FM` migration. So it may not
last long. How cynical. Our first news of this:

``My Brazilian colleague reports that he was last week working at
"Sistema Clube of Ribeirão Preto in order to put the 15415 kHz back on
the air." The transmitter is a Philips 1 kW box, circa 1965 (Ben
Dawson, Hatfield-Dawson Consulting Engineers, Feb 3)``

Then earlier Feb 20: ``Rádio Clube de Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo,
Brazil, reactivates its old transmitter on short waves, at a frequency
of 15415 kHz. They did this because the Brazilian government expanded
the law for migrating radio stations from medium waves to FM, also
including concessions in short waves and tropical waves. This could
result in the temporary return of many inactive Brazilian radio
concessions on tropical waves and short waves. When they reactivate
the short wave and tropical wave frequencies, they will request
migration to FM and thus the owners gain another FM radio. 73 Jorge
Freitas, Feira de Santana, Bahia``

No doubt it would be better via SAm remotes I haven`t tried yet but
others have. An excellent frequency choice as EiBi, Aoki and HFCC show
absolutely nothing else on 15415 ever. Axually merely coincidental
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, Feb 20 at 2252. RHC Spanish S9+30 with squeal and hash
gradually diminishing out to plus/minus 15 kHz = 11745/11775.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA NORTH [and non]. 7580, Feb 20 at 0728, JBA Japanese as VOK
starts at 0700. Much better JJ on 7380 from NHK direct (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** MALDIVES [non]. 11620, Feb 20 at 1523, YL in presumed Dhivehi,
S9/+25 one of bestsigs on band; 1529 theme with drumming; 1529:45
quick English s/off as Voice of Martyrs Korea and off 1530*. Almost
always audible well from 1500, but relogged for the record;
unbelievable site listed in Aoki, Uzbekistan; believable: Kununurra,
Australia if not Taiwan, but not confirmed. Unknown in EiBi;
deliberately absent from HFCC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 11514.9, Feb 20 at 1525, JBA signal; I remain
confident that it`s pirate Hikari FM, from Arizona or Sonora, as
originally identified on signature off-frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 255 kHz, Feb 20 at 0732 UT, still no signal from SW,
50-watt NDB in StillWater. I keep seeking it in every LW bandscan;
used to be audible day and night with tolerable lower noise level. RNA
list shows it last logged 2023-12-26. It`s had long temporary outages
before (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SWAZILAND. 15104.95 approx., Feb 20 at 1533, TWR music-box IS, ID
as Eswátini, 1534 into language; odd timing, running late? EiBi shows
15105 M-F 1532-1621 in TIG to EAf - would that be Tigre or Tigrinya?
``TIG Tigrinya/Tigray: Ethiopia (4m), Eritrea (3m) [tir]``
Perceptibly off-frequency minus; is Manzini otherwise found askew?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TIBET [non]. 12125, Feb 20 at 1530, non-Chinese talk mixing with
music, S9+20. EiBi shows RFA Tibetan via TINIAN this hour only, so
with CNR1 jamming, maybe same as on 9940, which would be CNR1 jamming
against RFA Mandarin via SAIPAN this hour only (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 9610.007, Feb 20 at 2300, VOT English s/on
recognizable but VP despite S9/+10 on meter direct. Found here after
nothing on correct 5960 a few minutes earlier. 9610 is supposed to run
at 2130-2226 only for the previous English broadcast. At 2330 I check
UTwente: still nothing but XJRTV in Chinese from EAST TURKISTAN. 9610
still with VOT but extremely heavy CCI equal strength totalling
S9+15/20, which must be the only other schedulee, CNR8 Mongolian from
Beijing site. TRT includes 2337 outro `Weekly Commentary`, 2342
`Turkey`s Geomarked [sic] Products`.

Hey, let`s make it two totally wrong broadcasts! Stays on 9610 past
0000 Feb 21 with German which is not supposed to be on SW at all. The
QRM soon abates, CNR8 off earlier than expected 0100? But CRI Hakka
via Kunming starts at 0000. Some breakup in German mod, finally
offchopped at 0008? No, that`s my Internet interrupted! Back on by
0015, still German with lots of CCCCCCI. Something`s always
erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2230 monitoring: confirmed UT
Tuesday February 20 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, VP S7 into Maryland SDR.

Also confirmed Tuesday February 20 at 1405 the 1400 on WRMI 9955, S9
direct, no jamming audible. Next:

0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1200 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB
1230 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB
[previous #2229][SW suspended but still streamed?]
1500 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [unsked but reconfirmed every 2024 week]
2030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW,
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975

As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated. Thanks this
week to Bob Zerilli, Hazlet NJ, for a contribution via PayPal to
woradio at yahoo.com - in US funds but not necessarily, and says,
``Thanks for your SWL dedication. I`m a longtime SWL and appreciate
you being out there``

One may also contribute via MO or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, Feb 20 after 2300, nor Feb 21 by 0020, no signal from
WTWW; not sure, but not noticed last few nights either. No word yet on
latest problem (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7260, Feb 20 at 0727, music S7/S8, RV reactivated, a bit
better signal than usual (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** YEMEN [non]. 11819 approx., Feb 20 at 1527, roar at S7/S8, the
totally defective Sa`udi transmitter for Republic of Yemen Radio. Even
worse, also direct, at 2250, S9+10, maybe a hint of program audio in
the mush with USB tuning. Something`s sorry in Sa`udi Arabia (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. OG&E local line noise level has abated slightly, so I
detect some more LW beacons, but not well enough to copy IDs:

258 kHz, Feb 20 at 0733, maybe with a dash = Canada. The *only* 258 in
dxinfocentre.com is ZSJ, 1000 watts from Sandy Lake, Ont., last logged
Dec 24, 2022 at 0728. RNA has only one other worldwide, LU in Angola.

336 kHz, Feb 20 at 0735, trace of a beacon/carrier. RNA shows only two
in Greenland, AA and QQ; and one other in N America, MA in Cadillac
MI, maybe miskeying at MET; all powers unknown. DXinfocentre.com shows
25 watts and only one more, in Tanzania (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 13800 USB, Feb 20 at 1523, 2-way in Spanish, Intruders
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** CANADA. 28170 CW, Feb 19 at 2311, VVV DE VA3XCD/B and repeated.
WI5V list: ``28.1700 VA3XCD YARKER, ONTARIO, CANADA 2W DIPOLE 20 APR
2003``. QRZ.com: ``VA3XCD Canada flag Canada, William G Pooley, 400
DEWEY ROAD, RR3, YARKER, ON K0K 3N0, Canada`` but no further info.
Yarker is NW of Kingston, NE of Greater Napanee (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 5025, Feb 19 at 0815, S9+25 of dead air in Spanish from R.
Rebelde. If you`re running the transmitter, why not modulate it, duh?
Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Feb 19 at 2040, RHC English not off the air, lo-fi
into Maryland SDR. Waterfall shows very small modulation line, with
amorphous blobs every kHz or so out to at least plus/minus 5 but by
2045 the pattern changes to diagonal. Something`s always wrong at RHC.
The Other Side:

``READ TODAY THE CUBA OF TOMORROW February 13, 2024 PUBLIC HEALTH
Organ transplants in Cuba, more evidence of the decline of the
'medical powerhouse' -- Children bear the brunt as Cuba's Public
Health system crumbles, as demonstrated by high-profile cases like
that of Amanda Lemus Ortiz. ÁNGELES ROSAS | Madrid...``
https://diariodecuba.com/cuba/1707757376_52806.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** FRANCE. 21610-21615-21620, Feb 19 at 1652, DRM noise direct, S9+15.
1742 into Maryland SDR, S9 in French talk, 1800 RFI ID and continues
past 1830, off before next check 1936; labeled TDF with SNR of 22.8
db, lofi 8.08 kbps; ``Diffusion DRM assurée par l`opérateur TDF``

Andy Reid, Ont, heard this as long ago as Feb 11 at 1553 and ``mucking
up`` like jamming BBC on 21630, which is Ascension from 1600. No
problem here to 21630. Not in current HFCC, EiBi or Aoki, but in DRMrx
at 11-12 only from TDF, no further details.

In BC-DX, Wolfgang Bueschel presents a tentative HFCC A24 DRM TEST
sked from TDF ISS, on 28 frequencies, but only 21755 on 13m. Segments
are all for only 30 or 60 minutes (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA NORTH [and non]. 7580, Feb 19 at 0806, JBA music and talk;
nothing in HFCC but EiBi & Aoki show VOK in Japanese at 07-13 & 21-24,
altho I had not noticed before 08. BTW, 7570 WRMI is OFF now tho
available all-night (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 27185 AM, Feb 19 at 1648 check, CB relay of K288FX 105.5
is not on air now from Enid; nor after 2300 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Mon Feb 19 at 2300, token English from SNR, preview
and news; 2308 about whether mobile phones should be banned from
schools; 2323 multi-lingual ID montage not heard before, then fill
with a song from 1996 by a rock group evidently influenced by a visit
to Cuba, ``La Placa`` = license plate? Or more likely, ``Flaca`` = the
skinny girl (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960+, Feb 18 at 2300, VOT English not off the air, VG into
UTwente, but no time to listen now, rather UBMP; so I catch the last
repeat of the `Sunday` program:

6125.005, UT Monday Feb 19 at 0400, VOT English, VG S9/+15 into
Maryland SDR, no need for UTwente. S/on and news voiced by the badax
as I zone out. 0414 repeat the `Weekly Analysis` about Turco/Egypto
relations. I keep waiting for the `Letterbox` but almost give up: 0419
``with-you-every-hour`` promo. 0423 song. 0427 multi-lingual ID filler
reel. 0429 music. 0434 *finally* `Letterbox` starts some 17 minutes
later than before. Usual host, very informal, acknowledging almost
nothing but reception reports wanting QSLs, from: India and wants lots
of other promo goodies, sorry; Russia, none other than Anatoly Klepov,
Moscow, editor of RUS`-DX; someone from Young Stars Radio Club,
Hyderabad, India; Konstantin Barsenkov, St Pete, Russia, also in
RUS`-DX; Belgium; Andy from UK, no postal address; Tamil Nadu with
WRDay greetings; Germany; Gavin Waters, Australia advising of
overmodistortion; Canada; Tarek Zeidan, Egypt. Nice to hear several
familiar names from our contributors.

VOT guy gives their postal address but never spells Yenisehir as if
every new, or old, listener recognize it! Axually it`s Yenişehir with
a cedilla under the S which make it sh-sounding, name of a
municipality of Ankara. And both i`s are dotted! You will be wasting
your time looking for a postal address or much of anything about this
SHORTWAVE station at the TRT website, sidetracking into TRT WORLD,
i.e. video. BTW the PO Box number is 333 as announced, not merely 33
as in WRTH 2024, where Y--- is also cedillaless.

Back to the rest of the broadcast. LBox ends at 0446, more music fill;
0453 s/off for the 1330 broadcast only: something`s always awry at
Ankara; 0454 IS; 0456 restart IS but chopoff at 0457* before German or
any other language IDs; expecting Malay which starts elsewhere at
0500; or Turkish (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960.005, Feb 19 at 2310, JBA direct vs HNL, VOT not off
the air; 2349 into UTwente when measured, S9+40/45 with ``ABYS`` promo
between musix. 2354 ``WYEH`` promo and s/off as if the 1330 on 13635.
2355 IS. 2356 restart IS with German IDs to 2357*. Something`s always
erroneous at Emirler.

BTW, 5960 occasionally prolonged another hour for German, and rarely
another2 hour from 0100 in Portuguese, a language not on the original
B23 schedule at all but evidently in the program feed. But now it`s
official: via Manuel Méndez, Célio Romais in Brasil says it`s heard at
0100 Feb 18 on 7280 and that frequency is announced (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2230 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
February 18 at 2100 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1322.996 kHz, S9+5 into
UTwente across Europe with SAH of about 3 Hz, perhaps from a tiny UK
station; via nearby Noale, Italy SDR on 1322.998, VG S9+15/20, no SAH
or other QRM.

Also confirmed Sunday February 18 at 2256 the 2230 on SW Radio,
Germany, 3975.001, S9+5/10 into UTwente.

Also confirmed UT Monday February 19 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9/+10 but
high noise level into Durango2 SDR. I hope the 7780 airings are better
somewhere altho aimed SW from FL.

Also confirmed UT Monday February 19 at 0400 on Area 51 [sic] via WBCQ
6159.935, S6/S7 into Maryland SDR.

Also confirmed Monday February 19 at 2030 on SW Radio, Germany,
3975.002, S9/+10 into UTwente. Next:

1230 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB

As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated. Thanks this
week to Bob Zerilli, Hazlet NJ, for a contribution via PayPal to
woradio at yahoo.com - in US funds but not necessarily, and says,
``Thanks for your SWL dedication. I`m a longtime SWL and appreciate
you being out there``

One may also contribute via MO or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. (7490), Sunday Feb 18 at 2300, WBCQ webcasting in mono
`Uncle Bill`s Melting Pot`, now monthly on third-Sundays, first half
interviewing and not enough music by a woman from India; second half
as promised, tribute to Peter Schickele who died recently: UB picked
some very obscure PDQ Bach stuff, partly in German, which I don`t
recall ever hearing on `Schickele Mix`; while some more accessible PDQ
Bach bits would have encouraged a wider audience (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 12050, Feb 19 at 1655, hymn in Spanish, S8/S9 so WEWN is not
off the air as it was missing Feb 17 at 1946 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** YEMEN [non]. 11820, Feb 19 at 1944 horrible buzz into Maryland SDR.
11810 weaker but clear BBC English via UAE. 11860 only huge R Martí,
should be too close in skip zone to DC? At 1955, Look at the
waterfall! Evenly spaced carriers about every 115 Hz apart
11817-11823. No program audio. This is presumably ex-11860 Sa`udi
transmitter carrying Republic of Yemen Radio, which was just as
defective on original frequency. At least it no longer confront Cuban
jamming and RM. At 2318 check direct, still humroar.

Don Moman, Alberta, replied earlier: ``it's not centered on 11820. If
you treat it as a USB signal, then it is closer to 11819 and most of
the stronger hum bars are in the typical USB voice range. There are
MANY 120 Hz spaced harmonics making up the buzz/hum. This would imply
a country that uses 60 Hz power or a 60 Hz generator.``

Of course, we know that unusually for the ME, Sa`udi Arabia is on 60,
and not Yemen or any other country on or off the Peninsula: 50. See:
https://www.generatorsource.com/Voltages_and_Hz_by_Country.aspx
S.A. must be a victim of American influence (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, not exhaustive but
checking likely spots mostly below 1220, Feb 20 at 0223-0231: 711,
774-2, 855-2, 891, 909, 999, 1044, 1053 -- mostly Western Sahara,
Spain or UK but also: 1431! kHz. Per mwlist, 1431 has got to be the
600 kW VOA Djibouti, or one of two 1-watt UK hospital stations; or
something undetailed in Greece. VOA sked 1530-0330. Everyone in NAm
without a local on 1430 can listen for the 1431 het. Woe betide DXers
in those hospitals blocking VOA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 15022.4 CW, Feb 19 at 2315, very slow Morse code, mostly
numbers, occasional letters. Searching UDXF iog on that exact
frequency gets a 2012y report but source and type of transmission not
shown: ``Most (maybe all) transmissions are now from Isabela, Puerto
Rico and possibly Davidsonville, MD too`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
