** COLOMBIA. 6010-, May 6 at 0650, JBA carrier very close to same about -50 Hz offset as from 5910, so suspect LV de tu Conciencia may be back on air, but signal not up to par with sibling. Or, Brasil? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 9700, May 6 at 0704, RHC English still on here and nowhere else, S9+10 but with squealwhine audible in AM mode out to plus/minus 30 kHz. Something`s always wrong at RHC. Also noted by Wolfgang Bueschel via remote in Detroit or Edmonton: ``9700 kHz heard of RHC Spanish likely from Bauta site at 0558 and switched over to English sce at 6-7 UT -- the only RHC channel at this hour! Only S=6 signal, like exciter outlet only. 9700 kHz distorted audio with a whistle-buzz of 350 Hertz audio string approx.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. (90.1), KUCO FM webcast, Sat May 6 at 1907 UT, opening his anonymous vocal fill-music show after `La Bohème` from The Met, Lane Whitesell apologizes for interruptions to last week`s program: material was embedded in original music source, KUCO received no remuneration, and has taken steps to assure this does not happen again (paraphrased closely). I.e. the *commercials* I heard twice and queried him about, but he never replied to me. Wait a minute: only 2+ hours is not enough time for Bohème. Recheck at 2129, after an hour or so of his own show with Brahms songs, etc. Lane is outroing Act IV of it, but a different recorded performance from Rome Opera House, compensating for a ``technological problem`` earlier! I.e., quitting the Met broadcast after only 3 acts. I suspect these problems result from automation and voice-tracking, no ``live`` management of what happens (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. RF 26, May 5 at 1947 UT, BAD signal starts to decode as KOTV 6-1 Tulsa, continuing the huge tropo opening as in previous report. UT May 6 at 0249, RF 20 decodes at 42-1 KBZC-LD. That`s a lowpower in nearest major market, OKC, but normally invisible here with 7.2 kW ERP. Also all these mostly infomercial subchannels, but PSIP on every one is same KBZC-LD! 42-2, 42-3, 42-4, 42-5, 42-6, 42-7. UT May 6 at 0255, RF 36, Univision on 36-1 with PSIP KUOKCD1 -- yes, with figure one at the end somehow as I inspect it closely. There are NO virtual 36-2 or 36-3, skipping to 36-4 StartTV and 36-5 H&I as in rabbitears.info. Of course this 7.33 kW ERP channel with Univision is superfluous as it`s also on highpower RF 29 from Shawnee along with Telemundo and Estrella TV. RF 36 is also direxional NNW which must help it a bit thisaway. Among many BAD signals May 5 at 1526 UT, I get a decode on RF 20 from KQCW 19-1; and on RF 26 from KOTV 6-1 with CBS, Tulsa, in & out (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** SPAIN. 17855, Friday May 5 at 2200, token English from SNR, feature after news is conversation with Leah Patton (sps?), an immigrant who picked up Spanish after arriving and now runs a website about what to do in Madrid, madridnofrills.com --- VG here and 17715, 15520 also audible, 11670 barely (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785.009, May 6 at 2200, VOT English is not off the air today, S9+25/35 into UTwente, 11-second late timesignal, soon compared to something on 10000, not WWV, mixed with music, presumably ITALCABLE; s/on by heavily accentedess and with considerable overmodulation/distortion. Topping news is coronation of Charles, all in future tense! Tho this should have been recorded no later than 1230 UT today (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2189 monitoring: confirmed Friday May 5 at 2030 on IRRS SW via AM Italia 1323 kHz only, Villa Estense, S9/+15 into nearby Noale SDR, but with considerable pumping SAH CCI from understation. Just before at 2029 an Italian song played. Also confirmed UT Saturday May 6 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, S9+20/30 direct aimed thisaway, but only S6/S8 into Maryland SDR, not aimed thataway. Also confirmed UT Saturday May 6 at 0400 on WBCQ Radio Angela, 5130 -24 Hz = 5129.976 into Maryland SDR at S7/S9. Also confirmed Saturday May 6 at 1930 already underway early on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+17 with storm crashes right over the St Louis area into adjacent IL, about 5 minutes into so started early circa 1925. Overdue donation. TNX for what you do``. One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7490 minus 73 Hz into Maryland SDR = 7489.927, Friday May 5 at 2351, WBCQ S9+5/20 during FKB gospel huxter; 5130 already on at 5129.985, S6/S8 with music; 6159.933, S7/S9 different music; and no 3265v as it`s about time for `AAAWWW` UT Sat May 6 from 0000, which I then listen to on (7490) webcast: sounds familiar, about needing to fix stuff, mike check OK, AW has been ``dragging`` due to 80-degree heat in FLA; discussing favorite Japanese restaurant they frequent - so now I`m sure this be a repeat from a week or few ago; never mind (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Big tropo TVDX opening continues over central USA, May 5 at 2350 UT, BAD signals on RF 20, 34, 35. UT Sat May 6 at next check 0131, BAD: 10, 11, 14, 20, 21, 22, 28, 30, 34, 35, 36. Some of those no doubt Oklahoma, but see OKLAHOMA for identified intrastate DX. UT May 6 at 0434 I have Univision on RF 31 but displays virtual 46-1. Trouble is, I can`t find any such match in listings altho it`s on 46-1 in Arizona and Hawaii: I don`t think so. Closest 31 is Wichita market, KDCU Derby KS with Univision, but rabbitears.info shows its virtual is also 31! Allocation map for 31 has no matches in TX or OK. Univision website is no help: I can`t even find an affiliate list as they push viewing via an APP rather than OTA TV stations!! Nor Wikipedia. Finally I check FCC TV Query, and by golly, they do show KDCU RF 31 with virtual 46. I also inspect the subchannels I get with this and they match the rabbitears info for KDCU: Grit, Mystery, Laff, CourtTV. Notified webmaster who says I am first to inform him of incorrect info. His latest info was virtual 31 for many years. Must have changed recently; maybe was originally on RF 46 before repacking. My last previous log of KDCU was Sept 5, 2021 on RF 31 and indeed ``31``. My STB tuning is further confused by *another* virtual 46 from Norman OK`s KOCM which is really on RF 16, gospel huxter starting with DayStar. It`s usually a bit too weak here to decode. Somehow KOCM got on a prime low cable channel in Enid, 6. At 0531 UT, BADs on 8, 9 and 10; then 8 decodes briefly as KPTS, Wichita. Next morning, May 6 from 1525, we still have big tropo blob all the way from Monterrey to Des Moines, but I`m not getting any such far DX. BADs: RF 10, 14, 15, 17, 21, 22, 26, 28, 30, 31, 34, 35, 36, i.e. just about every UHF channel not `local` -- and some of those have become BAD due to DX QRM: even Enid`s only local K17JN-D; 15 from OKC. Later on Saturday after/noon I switch to FM DXing from the caradio, as yet not fully researched, so will be in my next report; including some ethnic radio from DFW (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 11835, May 6 at 0706, RV is S5/S6 on 3 x 3945; also had it before 07 on much weaker fundamental 7260 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 9170, May 6 at 0711, open carrier of S1/S4 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 2227 UT May 6

Stitt's vetoing OETA funds another irrational action https://www.enidnews.com/oklahoma/editorial-stitts-vetoing-oeta-funds-another-irrational-action/article_4759c2b2-e9b6-11ed-b956-3b979d060646.html EDITORIAL: Stitt's vetoing OETA funds another irrational action Enid News & Eagle Editorial Board May 3, 2023 Gov. Kevin Stitt’s comments in regard to his recent veto of reauthorization of funding for Oklahoma’s public television station are nothing short of embarrassing, discriminatory and about as divisive as a leader of a state can possibly get. While many thought the move was part of the governor’s hardball strategy to get his education bill across the finish line, we found out that it really is Stitt’s irrational conjecture that OETA is “indoctrinating” kids to an LGBTQ agenda. “I don’t think Oklahomans want to use their tax dollars to indoctrinate kids,” Stitt told reporters about his decision to veto.. “And some of the stuff that they’re showing, it just overly sexualizes our kids. There’s elevating LGBTQIA2S+ voices.” If there are programs with LGBTQ content, they are a very minuscule part of OETA programming. Why has the governor chosen to wage war against education, parents and public and cultural programming that has been a valuable asset for decades? OETA leverages private donations, federal support and state appropriations to deliver public services programming that we believe add value to our state. Since the last renewal, OETA won two regional Emmy Awards, provided 500 hours of Oklahoma original content, expanded their weekly newscast to a full hour and provided programs that reached half of the state’s population. With the budget, the network would be allowed to boost its digital presence and create a stronger subscriber base to gain more self-funding. Also, according to OETA, it’s the most watched PBS affiliate in the country. It also provides valuable news programming, children’s programming like “Sesame Street,” and OETA provides commercial networks with coverage of matters of the state as part of their public service. The governor also used a secondary argument that in today’s world, there is no need to “prop up” a public television station. “That, to me, is an outdated system,” Stitt said during a press conference Friday. “It may have had its place in 1957. Why are we paying taxpayer dollars to prop up OETA?” It’s true that some states no longer fund public television. Also, Oklahoma spends more on public television than some other states. If it’s truly a matter of prioritizing state funding and seeing if it makes sense for Oklahoma’s public television funding to be reduced, that’s a rational discussion. But that’s not how the governor formulated his veto response. He chose zealous rhetoric to promote an ideological difference, not a necessarily a fiscal one. The governor has previously supported OETA funding, so this veto is definitely a blindside. OETA, which broadcasts PBS throughout Oklahoma, is still plenty popular with parents and many others who enjoy its wide variety of programming. Public television still has its place and should not be erased from our culture. Hopefully, three-fourths of the Legislature will override this veto, and if a discussion needs to take place regarding fiscal responsibility of supporting public television, then let’s have that discussion next session. Support local journalism. ========== https://www.msnbc.com/the-reidout/reidout-blog/oklahoma-governor-kevin-stitt-cuts-pbs-funding-lgbtq-rcna82504 Oklahoma governor blames Clifford the Big Red Dog, LGBT folks for PBS funding cuts Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt vetoed funding for his state's PBS affiliate, citing an all-too-common GOP talking point. May 2, 2023, 9:30 PM UTC By Ja'han Jones Oklahoma’s Republican governor is on a crusade against "Clifford the Big Red Dog," the network that produces the animated children's show, and the local affiliate that airs it. Last week, Gov. Kevin Stitt vetoed a bill that authorized funding the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority (OETA), which broadcasts PBS programming, through July 2026. Republicans have targeted PBS funding for years, including Donald Trump during his presidency and Mitt Romney as a presidential candidate in 2012. Stitt appears to be seizing on a sordid political moment in the United States to advance that cause. "I don't think Oklahomans want to use their tax dollars to indoctrinate kids," Stitt told reporters on Friday about his decision to veto the bill. "Some of the stuff that they’re showing just overly sexualizes our kids.” Here, Stitt seems to be winking at Republicans’ crusade against so-called groomers with his criticism of PBS, much like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is targeting Disney to push his anti-LGBTQ agenda. Tulsa World on Friday laid out the Stitt administration’s issues with PBS, and they’re just as bigoted as one might imagine. ``To back up Stitt’s claims, a spokeswoman for the governor sent the Tulsa World information showing that OETA promoted LGBTQ-focused Pride Month programming in recent years. The spokeswoman also shared information indicating that two animated children’s cartoons — 'Clifford the Big Red Dog' and 'Work It Out Wombats!' — that air on PBS affiliates have included lesbian characters in some episodes. The spokeswoman also sent a Fox News article that criticizes a 'PBS Newshour' segment in which an Indiana couple talked about how gender-affirming care was beneficial for their daughter.`` First of all, if you watch “Clifford the Big Red Dog” or “Work It Out Wombats!” and think, “Gee, there’s an awful lot of sexiness going on here,” that sounds like a personal issue. But fundamentally, Stitt’s veto is nothing more than anti-LGBTQ government censorship. And the governor’s cruelty is likely to impact Oklahomans in a major way. Just last year, Stitt vetoed more than $ 8 million in funding authorized for the OETA to improve its emergency alerting services, hampering the agency’s effort to improve a tool it uses to notify residents — including many in rural areas — of local issues. Stitt claimed he doesn’t see a reason for public funding to go toward a broadcast network. And that stance has him at odds with some members of his own party in the state Legislature. Multiple Oklahoma Republicans told Tulsa World they support OETA funding. That includes state Senate Pro Tem Greg Treat, who pointed to public broadcasting's key role in relaying emergency communications. According to Tulsa World, the Legislature appears likely to override the veto, which would require a two-thirds majority in the Oklahoma House and state Senate. Nicely correlating with such offfrequenciness is this about the other Sudan service: ``Glenn, I'm listening to the new BBC Arabic Service to the Sudan refugees on 21510.15 at 0702 (May 3), via the Kuwait SDR (Chuck Albertson, Seattle, Wash.)`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2188 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday May 2 at 2336 the 2330 on WRMI 9395, S9/+20. Also confirmed Wednesday May 3 at 2100+ on WBCQ 7490-: JBA carrier direct: needs to be on higher band in summerish. S9/+10, minus 73 Hz into Maryland SDR = 7489.927. Next: 0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated; by MO or check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702; One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 17790, 15770, 9455, 9395, May 3 at 1502-1505+, all WRMI channels supposed to be on now, are OFF. Wonder what`s the problem? Hope not serious. There is NO lightning in Florida at this time. Nothing about this at disgraced FB. I am first checking direct; and noting that 15825 WWCR and 15555-USB WJHR are both VG, with sporadic E boosts. 1526 recheck at Maryland SDR, nothing on the four WRMI frequencies. Ditto at 1652. What will happen at 2100? 9955 & 5950 are supposed to start, 17790 to stop. Just after 2100, via Maryland remote, 15770 is in well, and the 9s are poor (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15555 USB, May 3 at 1502, WJHR VG direct at S9+10 tnx to sporadic E boost, and 1503 ID as ``near Pensacola, Florida``, email address. At this time 15825 WWCR is also boosted, but 15770 WRMI is off, incomparable (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 2354 UT May 3
