Glenn Hauser logs Jan +22-23, 2024 |

Tuesday, January 23 2024
** CHINA [and non]. 21800, Jan 22 at 2313, S9 but weakish Chinese, must be CNR1 jammer against Sound of Hope on its very highest frequency as wb often outpoints. Only other 13mb signal is weaker 21530.065 JBA carrier, in this case may really be SOH, Miaoli, Taiwan, lacking a jammer since it`s so far off-frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA [non]. See FRANCE 9490 ** FRANCE. 9490+, Jan 22 at 0419, S9 of dead air, little if any jamming. Must be TDF not yet turned off after RMI R. República relay, always askew on high side but not remeasured now. HFCC registered as 0100-0200 & 0200-0300 both daily, also EiBi as 01-03 daily. Aoki shows the second hour extension applies only on days 1267 = UT Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon. I think this correct, or used to be but not rechecked lately. WRMI skedgrid lines 441 & 442 show both on days 7123456, i.e. every; yet start/end dates differ: At 01-02: 291023 to 051123, but 02-03: 061123 to 300324. So that implies it`s always only one hour, but shifted one UT hour later with the end of DST in USA and the Running Dog of Yanqui Imperialism, Cuba. So, Jan 23 from 0153 monitoring 9490 into Maryland and Florida SDRs: nothing yet, but *0156 jamming starts! *0159 R.R. carrier on with the real Cuban NA and s/on, `Recuentro Informativo` totally overriding jamming. The two SDRs can`t agree how far off-frequency, Florida +78-95 Hz, or Maryland +51-67 Hz. But that indicates the transmitter is axually fluxuating some 16/17 Hz up and down. Would you believe than own website https://www.radiorepublica.us/ has nothing about WRMI, 9490, nor any radio, just podcasts with up-to-date entries?! Likewise, https://www.directorio.org/radio-republica/ Careful, if you search without democratico you`ll wind up in non-democratic Cuba itself, like https://www.directoriocubano.info/ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1640 kHz, Jan 22 at 2315 UT, KZLS Enid is still off the air, unknown why. Observing DX logs from Europe and NZ, I daresay that our KZLS is the least-heard USA on 1640 -- because unlike most of them ND, KZLS is NNW/SSE day and night, i.e. shooting for the much huger OKC market, and from a site east of Hennessey, much closer to OKC than other ``Enid`` MW stations. But that should advantage it for DX to Latin America, unLatin Alyaska. Just before 0200 UT Jan 23, I monitor KCRC 1390 for legal ID break in Fox Sports Radio: sure enough, imagines both stations, KZLS first, KCRC second! What do they know? BTW, WTNI 1640 Biloxi MS used to give KZLS or whatever it used to be called, trouble even here in Enid, suspected of 10 kW ND day power at night, but have not heard it in a long time and find no other reports of it since September. What`s with that? (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** SPAIN [and non]. 17755, Mon Jan 22 at 1629, no signal direct from REE; beamed south for Africa, always the worst signal here, but should be detectable. Presumably off, something not right at Noblejas. Other TA signals are normal on 17850, 17880. REE`s other frequency, 17715 for SAm, is not starting until *1900 weekdays, but 17755 is supposed to start at *1600 weekdays. So REE is now audible only on 12030 for ME, S7/S9 off the back. 9690 for NAm will not be on either until *1900 weekdays. Oh2! EiBi shows 17775, NOT 17755! At outset of B23 season there was confusion about that, maybe REE itself typoed. By 1725 I do detect VP 17755 JBA direct, NOT 17775. Furthermore, there is a het about 17755.6, maybe local birdie? Checking TWR RSA remote at 1730 timesignal, 17755 is VG but with a squeal, which implies the het be self-imposed. Aoki does show correct 17755 for REE, not 17775, but would you believe it still has three entries there for defunct KVOH? Long before it crashed completely, KVOH quit using 17775 at all, years ago. HFCC lists correct 17755 for SPAIN, not 17775: but on 17775 it does have an imaginary entry for WRMI! at 11-24 on NW 315 degree beam; in addition to true 17790 at 15-21 on SSE 160 degrees (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Mon Jan 22 at 2309, token English from SNR, feature interview about a ``residencia para señoritas`` possiblizing for the first time higher education for YLs in Spain, from Oct 1915 until the Spanish CW intervened in July 1936. VG here direct, other frequencies unchecked, nigh irrelevant (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.003, Jan 22 at 2308, VOT not off the air, fair direct. Into UTwente at 2339, VG in ``with-you-every-hour`` promo, music; 2344 multi-lingual ID filler reel, music; 2350 s/off as if this were the 1330 on 13635, and ID until off at 2355:30*, just in time to avoid German, uncovering fellow genocidal Chicom-controlled XJRTV (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2226 monitoring: confirmed Sunday January 21 at 2100 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, S9 but noisy, some S7 fades of audibility into UTwente; VG steady S9+15 into nearby Noale SDR and no QRM at either. Also confirmed Sunday January 21 at 2232 on Shortwave Radio, Germany, 3975.002, S9/S7 into UTwente; preceded by a DX program in German from ADDX. Also confirmed UT Monday January 22 at 0035 the 0030 on WRMI 7780, S6/S7 into opposite direxion UTwente where I don`t usually check 7780, but detectable with some CW QRM on about 7778.9 Also confirmed UT Monday January 22 at 0401, on Area 51 via WBCQ 6159.95, S9/+20 direct. Not confirmed Monday January 22 at 2030 on SW Radio, Germany, no signal on 3975 into UTwente. Later check at 2133 there detects an S7 signal on 3974.997 but nothing audible. No signal to a Finnish SDR but I checked only one of countless. Next: 0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW 1400 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?] 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1200 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB 1230 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB [previous #2225][SW suspended but still streamed?] 1500 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [unsked but reconfirmed Jan 3, 10, 17] 2030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW, 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S 0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975 [not all SW Radio Gold times confirmed; may be testing] As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated. WRMI: See CUBA [non] ** U S A. Re 730, ``Glenn Wrote in Part: “*only* otherone along this line is KQPN West Memphis AR, U4 1000/1000, 24h talk format, `OvC` per NRC AM Log -- yes, that means Overcomer Ministry = Brother Hystairical! in which case it should be shown as REL. But no TOMBS heard now.” The AM Radio Log doesn’t list a religious format unless a station has more than one program or a substantial amount of a given format during their broadcast day. A good example in KXEL-1540 which also carries the Overcomer Ministry but it`s a paid segment overnight. Many stations shown with OvC and quite a few with FoF = Focus on the Family have a different primary format. 73 Wayne Heinen N0POH, Editor, NRC AM Radio Log, Aurora, CO`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED [and non]. Re my 1218.1 carrier het: Terry Krueger replied at 0127 UT Jan 20: ``I am no value in that I can only tell you what *isn’t* offset after sunset here in extreme NW Floriduh tonight. The below are all essentially on 1220, not offset. WAYE Birmingham AL is in Spanish with lots of local spots. Pseudo Mexi-tunes. Someone fake C&W with constant canned drops by female as “My Country 12-20 AM.” Pointing slightly more west. Curious who this is. I’m sure I missed NRC/IRCA updates on this. Someone else threshold in Spanish, maybe the big XEco station. Kinda pointing thataway. Uselessly yours, TLK`` And then David Crawford, FL: ``No hint here at 0130 Z. But cubana Radio Caribe 1219.996 is playing some nice danzón music. К победе!`` I reply ``Tnx, youse guys for the rapid responses. Well, outruling is beginning of process. In NRC AM Log, the only 1220 as ``My Country`` but not including the frequency as printed, is WSLM, Salem IN U4 5000/82. No FM xltr shown so would have to mention 1220 if any. Glenn`` Terry Replies at 0331: ``Interesting. At 0041, there was a very clear “…right here in Salem…” The fake C&W could have been bumper music. So, probably WSLM per your digs. Thanx. Still, nothing else low 1220 het here in defacto lower Abalama`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search Jan 22 at 0424: 1566, 1125-2?, 891, 774, 711, 693. This time from top down, 1566 no doubt BENIN. Oh2, soon I`m getting intermittent connexions from both antennas into the R75(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 92.1, Jan 22 at 2115 UT, snippet of YL in Spanish, in caradio bandscan since it`s foggy and area reception might be enhanced. But otherwise if anything, it`s subnormal. Except she has to be DX, maybe MS or Es, as there are no OK or KS in SS on 92.1. TX has six, only two of those not LP or xltrs, Alice and Carrizo Springs. Is there Es? By 2342 UT check of 6 m map, there is! MUF 99 MHz, multi-angled, but the nexus is in SW OK, two close to be helpful here. Earlier could have been Mex with plenty of Spanish. I have not had *any* definite Es on FM this winter. It has not been unusual for the map to show MUF just below or slightly above 88 MHz. By 0015 UT Jan 23, DXMAP is showing Zerr in NV contracting FM DX from KS so there must be another patch half out thataway, so around 0030 I brave the freezish rain and Spanish needles for another caradio DX check: no, nothing unusual in 88-98 MHz surveyed a couple times (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0316 UT January 23 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

** ANTARCTICA.
Un cordial saludo.`` Google translation improved by gh: Hello Glenn, I asked Juan Benavente today about the possible dismantling of LRA 36, and he tells me, and also asks me to do so in his name, that is, to expressly name him, the following: 1st, Juan Benavente remains linked to LRA 36 through the Argentine Antarctic Command. 2º, The rumors about the privatization of the Argentine National Radio are flatly false and self-serving, made by the Argentine political opposition, but, repeat, they are flatly false. 3º, LRA 36 not only is not going to disappear, it is not going to be dismantled, but, on the contrary, it is going to be enhanced, receiving new material, among which is the new 10 kW transmitter. They are organizing to go on air with the new season. Please translate it and let it be known in the name of Juan Benavente, he expressly asks me to do so. A cordial greeting (via Glenn Hauser, WOR) ** CUBA [and non]. 5800, Jan 21 at 0808, wall-of-noise jamming not against nothing since there is also an open carrier, totalling S9+20, no doubt WRMI-10 which is supposed to stop at 0400* after 0300 `Freedom Synergy Radio`, which Needs To Be Jammed since it`s pro-Taiwan, hence anti-Commie, ergo anti-Cuba. WRMI skedgrid with yet another self-contradixion: only the transmitter/frequency atop shows FSR, as System B that hour on 5800; while 9955 switches to System H for Czecho/Slovakia relays. The program sked below does not show FSR anywhere, Cz/Sl on 9955 as System B. But Prague also at 03-04 on 9955 as System H, blank at 04-05; and 5800 unaccounted for on any System after 0300! So I`m not sure if FSR be on the air at all now. BTW, 5800 supposedly on all day long 14-21 Sabbathdays only with TOMBS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA [non]. 1640 kHz, Jan 21 circa 0200 UT, I notice that local KZLS Enid is OFF! No loss at all since it`s 100% // 1390 KCRC Enid, and 100% sports, mostly stupid ballgames, I assume. So what else may I hear on 1640? At 0404 I get around to checking: dominant looping NNE/SSW but some fades/out/in is a monolog about diversity at United AL, supposedly supported by FAA. Do we want anyone piloting with *any* disabilities? No commercial breaks for at least 15 minutes; by 0420 ridiculing ``diversity``. Then I scan the entire MW band on another radio for anything // - finding only one, but right away on 1690, looping NW/SE. That clinches both of them among the few stations on both frequencies per NRC AM Log: 1640, WSJP* Sussex WI; and 1690 KDMT* Arvada CO, both *non-commercial with Relevant Radio religious network. Furthermore, I listen to the Relevant Radio livestream around 0440 and hear the same topic, same program, which is `The Patrick Madrid Show (repeat)` at 0200-0500 UT Sundays. Hardly an improvement over stupid sports talk. Recheck at 1628 UT Jan 21, KZLS still off. Anything else to be heard at low noon, which is always 1832 UT here? Circa 1815 not even a JBA carrier on any of my receivers, antennas (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 90.1, UT Sat Jan 20 monitoring of KUCO anomalous programming again. From 0500 `Music from the Hearts of Space`, but 0600 followed by the other new `ambient` music show `Beyond the Barrier`, with a second hour from 0700. Wasn`t awake to check further into night but presumably no PVDG classical DJ hookup as on other overnights, but happened to awaken at 1100 UT to hear `Beyond the Barrier` starting again, maybe its second hour again like 0700. Skedgrid still claims that is at 12-13 UT Sats = 6-7 AM CT, with 06-12 UT unaccounted for! And BtB still not added to the alfabetical list of programs (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** TURKEY. Since I report on VOT so much, this from Alan Holder Jan 21 is pertinent: ``[WOR] TURKIYE - VOT English service Letterbox programme returns January 21 -- The last time I heard "Letterbox" on Voice of Turkiye was in August 2020 if I remember correctly. After many requests by myself (and others no doubt), I was pleased to hear the programme return to the air today, acknowledging letters from some listeners in South Asia and from Ireland. The presenter, as previously, is Halil Ibrahim Sarikaya. There were a few changes to the weekly English language programme line up from January 15, with "That's Why" and "The Energy Agenda" being new. They are also repeating the series "Turkish Folk Tales" heard a while ago and they now have a weekly Sports round-up. Glenn's "badax" announcer has also given out her name, which is Efsun Duri Elgeler (I think I have the surname spelt correctly). Alan Holder, G4ZBH, Isle of Wight, U.K.`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2226 monitoring: confirmed UT Sunday January 21 at 0100 on WRMI 9955, S7/S9 into Maryland SDR vs Cuban pulse jamming. Bonaire uptied firstly but at 0115, S7/9+10 with heavier jamming yet still 100% readable if you upput with it. Also confirmed UT Sunday January 21 at 0418, about 4 minutes into so started about 0414 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, sufficient direct. ** ANTARCTICA [and non]. 15475.98 RC USB, Sat Jan 20 from 1721 checking the best Argentine remote, NO signal from LRA36. Still zilch circa 1800, 1830, 1840, 1948, 2004, 2126, 2158, 2337. Like last week, it`s gone, temporarily or permanently? Wacky new Arg. Pres. ``Motosierra`` Milei is dedicated to ``privatizing`` Radio Nacional, with many personnel already fired. See: https://www.radionacional.com.ar/hay-41-empresas-publicas-sujetas-a-privatizacion/
As Bill Tilford pointed out to me, Esperanza has been removed from the drop-down list of streaming Radio Nacional Emisoras, not boding well, at https://www.radionacional.com.ar/ The external service RAE would seem to be equally threatened, as it is part of Radio Nacional, but its webpage is still up, https://www.radionacional.com.ar/rae/ including an undated 27-minute interview with a RAE Italian guy who visited Esperanza: https://www.radionacional.com.ar/rae-en-la-antartida/ On Jan 19, I asked Manuel Méndez, Spain: ``We are concerned that LRA36 may have been deleted. Can you find out anything from your contacts? Glenn`` - His reply with my translation interspersed: ``Hola, Glenn, LRA 36 en la pasada campaña, la de 2023, tuvo un gran impulso gracias a Juan Benavente, un gran conocer de la radio, radioaficionado y al que le gusta mucho el trabajo que hizo. Hello, Glenn, LRA 36 in the latest campaign, of 2023, got a great boost thanks to Juan Benavente, who really knows radio, is a ham, and really enjoyed the work he did. I wrote to Radio Nacional to tell them how convenient it would be for Juan to continue in charge of the station during this new year, or at least advise the new personnel who turn over every year, with the objective of following guidelines similar to those of 2023; in addition, I know that Juan Benavente would continue to be very satisfied doing that job. Personnel at the base and of Radio Nacional thanked me for my email and as far as I know did everything possible for Juan to continue, but ultimately, nothing of this was taken into account, and Juan Benavente has already returned to Argentina; so that means that as far as I know, LRA 36 will return to previous years, that is, we shall surely have to wait weeks for the new personnel to get organized, trained how to operate the station, and then be able to go on the air. Manuel But I don`t know at all whether LRA 36 has ceased transmissions, nor do I know where to find out that information. From what they told me, they will return with the summer session when possible, but not at all, of course, like it was in 2023. Cordial greetings. We must be alert especially on Saturdays. This and the next are not too far beyond Kansas: 293 MCW kHz, Jan 20 at 0758 UT, FBY, 25-watt NDB at Fairbury NE (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [non]. 6080 & 9775, Sat Jan 20 at 0451 jazz from VOA but no Willis Conover, // but not synchronized as 6080 is SAO TOME and 9775 is BOTSWANA; both S9+20 but 6080 sounds louder (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2226 monitoring: confirmed UT Saturday January 20 at 0139 the 0130 on WRMI 5850, S9+15/25 into Missouri SDR. Confirmed Saturday January 20 at 1551 the new 1530 on Shortwave Radio, Germany, just as I am talking about SWR adding WOR, S9+10/15 into UTwente and only 1 or 2 Hz from 6160.000, also VG modulation, sounds like more than 1 kW. Page 549 of WRTH 2024 shows address as c/o WWDX Club, PO Box 1214, D-61282 Bad Homburg, but site is Winsen an der Aller, 2 x 1 kW. E-mail: studio@shortwaveradio.de That`s in Lower Saxony, just NE of Hanover; in north-central Germany between Amsterdam and Berlin. Who are the L.P.? WOR was on time, ending at 1559, jingle ID as ``Shortwave Radio`` not appending ``Gold`` as sometimes reported, ``due to Chinese invasion, retune now to 3975; 6160 resumes tomorrow at 0900``. 6160 already had splash from 6165 CRI, also S9+10/15. Per EiBi, CRI on 6165 at 1500-1700 is from Urumqi, EAST TURKISTAN, at 1600 going from Pashto to Turkish; CNR6 from Beijing to Taiwan also on 6165 at 2155-1605. See GERMANY for more on 3975. WOR 2226 also confirmed Sat Jan 20 from 1832 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975, S9+5/10 into UTwente; after ADDX contact info in German. Also confirmed Saturday January 20 at 2046 UT on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+23 groundwave into nearby SDR, about 4 minutes into, so started about 2042, the 2030v; also on WRMI webcast only, and WRN N American webcast, both no doubt from 2030. The break at 2259-2300 evidently formerly involved a QSY. On the contrary, current Aoki shows: 1900-2000 3945, 2000-2400 5040, 2100-0100 5055, 0000-0559 7260, 0600-1000 3945 -- obviously self-contradictory and outdated, like still showing defunct stations such as WWRB on 5050. In HFCC dated 17 Jan, very first entry is PVL 10 kW, VUT via RNZ FMO: 2485 10-19; 3945 07-10 & 19-24; 5040 20-23; 7260 01-07; 9960 01-07 -- some overlap to cover contingency adjustments but still not accounting for 7260 after 07 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. SAWA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 1218.1 approx., Jan 19 at 0720 UT, weak carrier hetting 1220.0 stations; nothing this low at mwoffsets --- same as logged Dec 14, 2023 at 0751 in previous report. How about some help, others checking for this? NRC AM Log shows there are 41 UStations on ``1220`` - with peanut power at night vs 50 kW WHKW Cleveland; and two 10 kW Canadians aiming north. No biggies in USA west of Ohio, 1220 rather owned by XEB CDMX, allegedly 100/100 kW, 24h but never heard. 1220 sounds like a graveyard (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 8992 USB, Jan 19 at 1627, US military alfanumeric crypto exercise, S9, all fonetik with self-imposed background noise for effect. Repeating several times: ``ASWHLZ Stand By``. Friday, January 19 2024
** CANADA [and non]. 300 MCW kHz, dash and YIV, Jan 18 at 0750 UT, 500 watt NDB at Island Lake MB, coords less than 54/95. Noise blanker on the NRD 545 makes the difference, still awful. Not heard this one in a longtime, since Jan 26, 2023 at 0706.
328 MCW kHz, dash and YTL, Jan 18 at 0752 UT, 1000 watts at Big Trout Lake ON, coords <54/90, which was also last logged along with YIV, Jan 26, 2023 at 0707. This time first audible at 327-USB. More less rare Canadians this time: 332 MCW kHz, dash and QT, Jan 18 at 0754 UT, 1000 watts at Thunder Bay ON, and underneath it JBA, IC, 400 watts at Wichita KS. 346 MCW khz, dash and YXL, Jan 18 at 0758 UT, 500 watts at Sioux Lookout ON, >50/<92 degrees. YXL and QT are the ones most likely to be audible now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CONGO. 6115, Jan 18 at 0500-0604, no signal from R. Congo into Canary Is SDR which ought to get it if reactivated in its morning, as it was in the evening per Manuel Mendez ---- o wait, at 0607 there is a JBA carrier on 6115 audible when tuned to 6114 USB; could that be Japan, very long path? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2226) ** CUBA. 15140, Jan 18 at 2012, RHC English reactivated after quite an absence, S9+25/30 direct, lite squeal, fairly good mod, the SSOB except USA 15730, 15825. Something`s not wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2226) see also ** KOREA NORTH [and non]. 7720, Jan 18 at 0746, Korean weak but noise jamming also audible for first time here. Echo of Hope from S to N Korea from Seoul site per Aoki at 07-03, not *marked as jammed. Gianni Serra, Roma, also reported ``QRM moderate buzz noise``, Jan 12 at 1644-1705 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NEW ZEALAND. 11685-11690-11695, Thu Jan 18 at 0740, surprised to encounter S9+20 DRM noise here. Presumed RNZI in one of their midweek transmitter tests as scheduled in drmrx.org only at 1756-1857 daily except Sats, 25 kW at 35 degrees -- and it cuts off the air already at 0741.4*. Then at 0743, I check 13755 which is supposed to be on now in AM, but no trace of it. Should be propagating or at least detectable (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** PALAU [and non]. 9965, Jan 18 at 0813, Hope Radio weakly audible, but about equal to pulse jamming from CUBA! Which persists despite being unneeded since R. República quit Costa Rica site many years ago. T8WH or whatever may not be too bothered in Pac/As target, but why in the world choose a frequency ever jammed by Cuba? Sheer ignorance (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2226) ** U S A [and non]. Glad SWR decided to air WOR, missing from SW in Europe since IRRS quit.
