Logs

6099.93 KCBS with lots of talks on 0623 and after 0635 when my internet connection fell. Low-modulated with a trebly sound.

ON 1000z is again tuned with typical N Korean songs after the TOH and continues past 1030. I tested various kSDRs, with the best on Oita Japan at 0630 z with a -25 dbm signal, 35 RMS, and -65 dbm on 1024 z. Both sidebands have hums at 100, 200, and 900 Hz. QRM from CNR effects reception also on LSB! No signal on 3320

Texted here: http://simp.ly/p/hGs7ds

Also 6340/6370 SoH man with talk on Taiwan on 1246z+ and signals of -80dbm and quite noisy with Bye bye on 1057 with news program on 1100 ad YL talking I also texted from the above link: http://simp.ly/p/hGs7ds.

3910 and 3930 volts of people, though jammed, can be heard OK on 1106.

3985 echo of hope, same time, also with an 80 dbm signal

7475 Denge Gel 1733 with political talks and continuous mentions of Kurdistan. reception via THS kSDR with -65 dbm. A carrier from the router wanders upwards, infecting the LSB part. BTW, language is not supported in the descriptor. Notice that 7465 is their main frequency.

7495 Deewa Radio 1746 with news and external recordings, treble audio -63 dbm

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, here is the last word about LRA36
status, Jan 29 from Horacio Nigro:

```[WOR] [Antarctica] LRA 36 R Nac Arcángel San Gabriel, current
status info from Adrian Korol Director of RAE, Argentina --- Hi
DXfellows, The following text translated to English (thanks to Bard IA
for the best syntax given from the original in Spanish) has just been
released as a message on "DXnosaurs", my WhatsApp group coming from
OM: Adrian Korol, Director of RAE, Argentina:
``Dear Colleagues, Alejandro Petrecca (Chief of the LRA1 Transmitter
Plant) and Claudio García (technical operator of Radio Nacional El
Bolsón and amateur radio operator with previous experience at LRA 36)
finally arrived at Joint Antarctic Base Esperanza today. Their mission
is to perform maintenance and optimization work on the audio chain,
install a new console, and place the FM antenna and the tower that
will be used for the new LRA 36 shortwave transmitter.
Upon arrival, they discovered that the output stage of the Collins HF
80 transmitter, which is used to transmit LRA 36 programs on 15476
kHz, was burned out. They also found that the tower sections for the
shortwave antenna and the audio console had not yet arrived at the
base.
LRA 36 broadcast regularly until January 13. Then, Juan Benavente, the
architect of many if not all of LRA 36's achievements in recent years,
was unfairly recalled. With Benavente's departure, the radio was left
in the hands of unqualified people, which is evident by the fact that
the transmitter burned out the day after Benavente returned.
The causes of the fire are being investigated, but it is possible that
it was due to the incompetence of those who remained at the base. Juan
and Nicole Valdebenito (operator) know the sequences necessary to
start up the transmitter by heart, but this was not the case with
those who came after them.
There are many issues surrounding this matter, but it would be very
important to spread this news among colleagues around the world.
At this time, Petrecca and García are installing the FM antenna for
local coverage.
It is estimated that the new Studio Console and audio distributor
donated by Trialcom, thanks to a personal effort by Juan Benavente,
will arrive at Joint Antarctic Base Esperanza by the end of next
week.
The output board of the transmitter is also being sent to replace the
burned one and keep it in operation during February.
If Juan Benavente had been coordinating, none of these situations
would have occurred. Unfortunately, political favors promoted by the
previous administration left LRA 36 abandoned in its most important
mission, which is shortwave transmission.
JUAN BENAVENTE must return to LRA 36 as soon as possible to sustain
the radio until the arrival of the donated new transmitter. I estimate
that if they agree and the planets align, we could resume LRA 36
shortwave broadcasts before the end of February.
Thank you for spreading the above information. Adrian Korol Director
of RAE``
** CUBA. 5025, Jan 29 at 0747, torch song in English, could it be
Rebelde? No! program source is now ``Habana Radio`` as in distorted ID
at 0749. 5025 reactivation first reported by John the VORW in FL, Jan
26 at 0319, presumably as Rebelde, but this ID was first reported by
Bill Tilford, IN, Jan 28 at 0500. WRTH 2024 pp 214-215 shows it the
main station for Ciudad de la Habana province, on FM only but also FM
in some other provinces. Via Alan Roe, here is the program schedule
and listen link; and undated 25th anniversary:
http://www.habanaradio.cu/category/programacion/
Of course, R. Rebelde remains overkilled on MW all over Cuba yet gone
now from SW, why? Nice to hear something else, HR, which is nowhere
even on MW. Something`s odd if not wrong at RadioCuba. Michel FREMY
explains: ``It was a special programme of Radio Rebelde which
broadcast the ceremonies and concerts to mark the 25th anniversary of
Habana Radio``. January 30 at 0158 check, it`s neither: 5025 off the
air again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 11756 & 11764, Jan 29 at 1637, roaring spurblobs flanking
11760. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SPAIN. 9690, Monday January 29, token English from SNR; after news,
Lebanon correspondent, from 2313 interview about Lanzarote, Islas
Canarias, at the tourism expo. VG direct (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY [and non]. The reactivated `Letterbox` on V of Turkey
appeared again this Sunday Jan 28 at 2317-2329 on 5960.002, which was
not off the air, but VG S9+30/40 into UTwente, yet with JBA
undercurrent of CCCCCCI. Mostly reception reports, QSL requests - no
eQSLs, just by post but may take a while. From UK, 3 from India,
Finland, Italy, USA, Lucas Bandura from BC Canada, Germany. Said would
be back next week. With a little luck, this one will repeat at 0417 UT
Monday on 6125, unchecked. Rest of 5960 broadcast unusually nothing
but songs 2329-2354, s/off as if 1330 on 13635 only, semiminute of IS
and off by 2354.5* uncovering XJRTV. Standard genocidal remarx about
both (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.013, Jan 29 at 2303, VOT English JBA direct;
and 9610 JBA carrier presumably China, since checking UTwente at 2333
when measured, VOT is VG and with heavy SAH since it`s so far
off-frequency, presumably beating with East Turkistan, std. genocidal
denunciation of both. Turkish music plays until 2340 `That`s Why`
voiced by the badax, something about sunlight, claiming our Sun is at
the center of the Milky Way rather than outskirts! 2346
``with-you-every-hour`` promo, music. 2351 canned s/off reverts to the
totally wrong one with current frequencies but all times called UTC
are really local UT+3; fragment of IS chopped off at 2353*,
finesseless, uncovering the 6CI. As for VP 5960 reception direct, this
is likely to worsen on the average as we approach spring with more and
more solarlight on the GC path, such that we shall wish they changed
already before official A24 at Marchend; last year it was 11785 at
2200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2227 monitoring: Also confirmed
Sunday January 28 at 2100 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, S7/S9 into
nearby Noale SDR, no QRM.
Also confirmed Sunday January 28 at 2257 the 2230 on SW Radio,
Germany, 3975, S8/9+10 into UTwente. Off the air at 2300.
Also confirmed UT Monday January 29 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9+10/15
into Durango2 SDR and with no utenoiseblast audible at outset. Recheck
slightly before 0059, music playing already, so was WOR truncated?
Also confirmed UT Monday January 29 at 0400 on Area 51 via WBCQ
6159.963, S9+10/20 into NH SDR.
Also confirmed Monday January 29 at 2030 & 2054 on SW Radio, Germany,
3975, S8/S9 and noisy into UTwente; 2059 ID and FSN headlines, 2100
The Frogman, Frogzilla for the next bihour, ``24/7 progressive rock``.
As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated. Thanks this
week to Chris Campbell, Columbus OH for a contribution via PayPal in
US funds but not necessarily, to: woradio at yahoo.com and says, ``I
try to send support on a regular basis. I use your I/O group, radio
show or weekly roundup on a daily basis. Your information is
priceless`` and also mailed a box of equipment.
One may also contribute by money order or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 5950, UT Mon Jan 29 at 0420, I run across some nice
``ambient`` music on this WRMI, where I was listening to `Encore`
classical music at 0300-0400. Brief ID at 0451 as R. Catface
International; 0456 some brief SSTV beepery. 0500 C M Obrecht`s music
show starts with artificial voice but soon chopped off the air, why?
That`s nowhere at all on the WRMI skedgrid. He does special bookings
rather than regular weeklies anywhere. It seems this is the only WRMI
time for RCI, 0400-0500 UT Mondays, and it`s nowhere on the
Programming page, so I search it out to:
http://meowr.net/
I have no idea whether it`s always ambient, but there are playlists
for 14 shows thru Oct. Also linx to an attempt by Guero to reorganize
WRMI schedules:
http://meowr.net/skedgrid
into more usable formats but I`m afraid this is also confusing, and
inaccurate per a few WOR times I find. Many blox are not specific, and
lots of `TOMBS` - wonder where they got that? Anyhow, check it out
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 7292-7304 approx., Jan 29 at 0752, S9+26 of DRMish
noise, but not exactly, and center would be about 7298. Nothing listed
in DRM at this hour on 7290, 7295 or 7300, nor any likely jamming
targets. A ham experiment? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
346 MCW kHz, Jan 28 at 0758 UT, dash and YXL, 500-watt NDB at Sioux
Aoki shows both start at 0053 with CNR1 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CHINA. 17490, Jan 28 at 0110, FE/Chinese screeching song with
orchestra, S9+10/20 the SSOB tho really OOB, with Doppler flutter.
Beijing site at 193 degrees listed, SSW hardly USward, in Nan, AM or
Amo, as Big 3 sources can`t agree on lang. abbrs. WRTH says Amoy.
There are many weak AM signals on the bands displaying FE Doppler
flutter, mostly likely China (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CHINA. Many JBA signals or JBA carriers with Doppler flutter, in
survey 16-12 MHz, including OOB, most likely CNR1 jammers vs Sound of
Hope, as listed, Jan 28:
15970 at 0116, JBM S9+10;
15920 at 0117, JBA music;
16100 at 0117, carrier;
16160 at 0117, talk sounds Chinese; none higher in the 16s;
14920 at 0118, S9/+10 Chinese;
13920 at 0119, S6/S8 Chinese;
13805 at 0120, Chinese;
13640 at 0121, S9/+10 Chinese;
13610 at 0121, // 13640;
13530 at 0122, JBA carrier;
13020 at 0123, JBA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 12360, Jan 28 at 0124, S9/+10 JBM signal hit after China
OOBandscan, barely in English and //6180 S9+30 also JBM but slightly
more readable on harmonic. Not // 6000 which is RHC. CRI relay, sked
now on 6180 as is Brasil, but no sign of that now. By 0154 recheck,
12360 faded to a JBA carrier, due to prop, or suppressed at site? 6180
remains S9+10/20 and just barely modulated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** INDONESIA [non]. 7780, Jan 28 at 0818, VOI via WRMI in American
English, promoting Bali for tourism but please don`t litter the
beaches, etc.; S8, with three brief noise-blast QRMs at 0819, same as
on tops and bottoms of hours. This would be a lot more useful if not
only in the middle of our nights and on a better frequency (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** NORTH AMERICA. 6882 USB, Jan 28 at 0132, rock music and unreadable
announcement, the OPSOB, S9+20. Many logs here as Radio 48 via Mix
Radio International Worldwide, including waterfall images:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,124700.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** NORTH AMERICA. 7475, Jan 28 at 0136, S7/S9 direct of Station YHWH,
anti-Christ pirate, voice and intonation of Josiah recognizable (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** ROMANIA. 9700, Jan 28 at 0142, S9+30/20 bigsig, rock songs with
heavy disco-beat of 120/minute, lyrix all in English, mostly YL voice;
DJ interjexion in French, and then Romanian. 0147 R. Romania
International IDs and more music past 0151. Alan Roe`s Music on SW
lists this as `As We Like! (Hour 2)(Club/party)`, Sundays only at
0100-0200; 24h later: folk music.
EiBi shows 01-03 in Romanian to ENAm. But Aoki shows 0100-0257 in
Aromanian via Tsiganeshti! I think not: Aromanian is a related
minority dialect spoken in several Balkan countries, see:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aromanian_language
WRTH shows two other B23 frequencies for the bihour in Romanian; RRI
does have three Aromanian semihours for Europe on 5955 via Saftica
site (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TAIWAN. 18040, Jan 28 at 0112, JBA carrier with flutter. AM unusual
in this aero band and not expecting any ``broadcaster`` but there it
is in Aoki, at 0000-0200, XingXing guangbo dianti, Kuanyin. That`s a
numbers station, StarStar, last reported 7 months ago when Ron Howard
referenced this:
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
in Aoki, I also spotted this totally wrong entry; don`t you believe
it!:
``7490 0100-0300 USA WWCR The Overcomer Minis Eng Nashville 1``
i.e. on Sundays only --- like NEVER, as 7490 is WBCQ always during
those hours, not even with TOMBS on Sundays but `SW Saturday Night`
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. About WTWW`s current problem: ``A broken heat exchanger???
Must be a single stage heat exchanger. They use distilled water for
cooling of the PA tube. The water turns to steam and is fed to a
radiator where it is cooled and turned back to water to be fed thru
the system again. There is a water pump to do this. So, the water must
have frozen up inside the radiator and it (or pipes) burst. Northern
stations have a 2-stage heat exchanger. It`s distilled water on the
inside and anti-freeze on the outside. I worked at a station that had
a single stage system. When it got cold (below freezing) we had an
operator at the transmitter to keep an eye on things. If it got too
cold he would close the louvres, and it would warm up again. But that
was in the days of the first class license and we had an engineer on
duty 24/7. Now, most transmitters are solid state. Lou KF4RCA``
** VATICAN. 7250, Jan 28 at 0809, VR IS at S5/S7, 0810 into RCC
chanting; what luck: this is Sunday-only Romanian until 0925 per Aoki,
-0920 per EiBi; -0920 liturgy per WRTH // 9710, both also on Catholic
Logs
** ANTARCTICA [and non]. 15475.98 RCUSB, Sat Jan 27 at 1935, no signal
from LRA36 into Argentine SDR, nor any expected. Nor in a few more
random chex while mainly listening to `Carmen` live from The Met
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** OKLAHOMA. 90.1, KUCO, as of Jan 27 still has not expanded its
websked to show what is really airing early Saturdays 12-6 am CST =
06-12 UT, nor replied to my inquiry of almost a week ago. So this date
I check again. At 0800 UT going from ``ambient`` music, presumably
again `Beyond the Barrier`, to `Café Chill` as heard one biweek ago.
And amid the 11 UT hour, ``ambient`` music again, presumably more
`BtB`; but still unknown what occupy 09-11 UT, zzz (Glenn Hauser,
Enid, WOR)
** TURKEY [non]. 5960.000, Jan 27 at 2310, NO signal from VOT English
into UTwente, but, *2311 oncomes XJRTV in Chinese, its usual odd JIP
starttime, from EAST TURKISTAN, land of imperialist Chicom genocide
against Uighurs and other Moslems. But unlike yesterday, from the land
of Armenian genocide denial, VOT is not on overrun 9610 either, just a
JBA .000 signal, presumably Beijing. No change, same at 2328, 2345
rechex. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2227 monitoring: confirmed UT
Saturday January 27 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, S9+20/30 into Missouri SDR.
Missed checking Sat Jan 27 at 1530 on SW Radio, Germany, 6160; anyone
Confirmed Saturday January 27 at 1700 on WRN North America webcast.
Also confirmed Saturday January 27 after 1830 on SW Radio, Germany,
Also confirmed Saturday January 27 at 2029, on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO,
S9+20 groundwave into nearby SDR, about 2 minutes into so started
early circa 2027.
Also confirmed Saturday January 27 at 2030 on WRN North America
** U S A. Pre-`AAAWWW` check of WBCQs, UT Sat Jan 27 at 0040, into
Rochester NY SDR: 3265 off. 5130.272 S9 ATATT. 6159.932 S9/+5 TOMBS.
7489.961 S9+12/20 FKB anti-gay rant. 9330.001 S9+5/15 WLCR Brazuguese.
0100 `AAAWWW` on 7490-, starts about antique autos, sounds familiar
but I guess it`s new, right into politix complaining that altho smart
people work at WBCQ, some of them are `Moonbats`; tsk2. Recheck at
0120, he`s proudly reading the recent Radio World article about WBCQ,
which mentions World of Radio; and how the 500 kW can operate on any
band between 5.95 & 26.1 MHz - I didn`t hear him explain why it *never
has* anywhere but 9.33, allegedly because the frequency-change
procedure is not understood. Despite ``worldwide`` coverage, this led
WLCR to rent time on some other sites, tho none on own wacko website
now. Sked shows beams = azimuths which would seem to imply a globular
rather than flatular Earth! As for names and spellings of their
deities: ``the Creator, Yahuwah, and His Son, Yahushua.`` None of that
``Yahweh`` stuff by ignorant competitors.
[and non] At 0143 I try NH SDR on 7490, but it`s too close to ME, as
QRM from 7495 overwhelms skipover WBCQ! That`s VOA R. Ashna in Pashto,
which switches from Thailand to KUWAIT at 0130. Entire Ashna broadcast
is 0030-0230 alternating Pashto and Dari, half&half via Thailand,
Kuwait. HFCC shows 70 degrees from Kuwait, which should not be so
severe over here (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** VANUATU. 7260, Jan 27 at 0610, no signal from R. Vanuatu into
Brisbane remote; should be something if on, local time 1610/1710. Nor
anything direct earlier or later, nor on 9960, 5040, to last check
0821, JBA carrier on 7260, could be ham. This may well explain it,
from Ron Howard:
``Jan 27, from 0645+ UT, no Vanuatu on 2485, 3945, 5040, 7260 nor 9960
kHz. Ron (Calif.), FYI: `A magnitude 6.5 earthquake near Port Vila,
Shefa Province, Vanuatu, was reported only 8 minutes ago by the United
States Geological Survey, considered one of the key international
agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake
occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter early
morning on Wednesday, January 24th, 2024, at 1:33 am local time...```
https://www.volcanodiscovery.com/earthquakes/8801495/2024-01-23/14h33/magnitude6-Vanuatu.html
As in previous report, I was also not getting it on 7260, Jan 26 at
0826.
More from USGS, latest significant quake there:
``M 6.3 - 40 km SW of Port-Vila, Vanuatu
VIDYFI VShakeMap GREEN PAGER
Time 2024-01-23 14:33:44 (UTC)
Location 17.996°S 168.046°E
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 351 MCW kHz, Jan 27 at 0805, JBA unreadable ND beacon,
without a dash, so can`t be ``usual`` Canadian YKQ in QC. RNA Signals
list shows only two others in N America: MSQ in Culpeper VA, 25 watts
last logged 2024-01-23, and more? likely AE, `Dudle`, Albuquerque NM,
power 0 = unknown? last logged 2024-01-01. DXinfocentre.com lists only
YKQ and AE, 25 watts, ``Double Eagle II` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
Logs
** CLIPPERTON. 18132 USB, Jan 26 at 2316, TX5S found immediately,
tuning first to nominal 18130, making a VE6 contact, 59 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)
** EGYPT. 9440v, Jan 26 at 2126 & 2159 chex of UTWente, NO signal from
R. Cairo in English. Something`s always amiss at Abis (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)
** SPAIN [and non]. 9690, Jan 26 at 2300, token English from SNR, VG
direct starting with accurate timesignal. No news this time. Subject
is Ecuador, from a tourism-promotion event in Málaga, presented by an
announcer who says Ecuador is her home country; is that Quintana? Also
heard a Fernandina mentioned later, not sure if she were an
interviewee among many, about many different topix with some Andean
music; such as café, 2321 mariposas. Worth hearing the podcast if they
get around to loading it, to be dated 27/01:
https://www.rtve.es/play/audios/english-language-broadcast/
or should be repeated on webcast only after SW be off, at 0300 Sat.
Also into UTwente at 2320, marred by heavy OTHR clatter extending from
9690 to 9710 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 26 at 2327 NO signal direct from VOT English,
just a noise blob probably local. UTwente at 2332, no signal either,
just Chinese. I finally check 9610.003 and there it is! VG S9+27
during music. Another instance of failing to change transmitter
frequency after the 2130 English hour be over, supposedly aimed 105
degrees toward SE Asia. 2336 ``always-by-your-side`` promo, and
`That`s Why` voiced by the badax so I can barely make out that the
subject is hobbies. 2341 music, 2345 ``a-b-y-s`` again already, music.
2349 multi-lingual ID filler reel. 2351 music. 2354 s/off for the 1330
on 13635 only: something`s awry at Ankara. 2355 IS, 2356 restart IS
with German IDs twice a minute. 2400 timesignal 4 seconds late, as
received, s/on German, news, etc., 2420 still going with music, 2425
another feature. So this time something`s doubly erroneous at Emirler,
zzz: wrong frequency and German would not supposed to be on, even if
frequency were right. China also listed on 9610 but Beijing site in
Mongolian, and totally overcome by TRT. Finally cuts off at 2431*,
uncovering nothing but an S7 JBA trace of China? on 9610.001 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
WORLD OF RADIO 2227 monitoring: confirmed Friday January 26 at 2130 on
IRRS via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, S9 into UTwente but noisy and with ACI
from Castilian on 1314: that would be Spain, RNER5 synchros, 3 of them
totalling only 45 kW. Preceded by AWR Wavescan.
Missed checking WRMI 9955 at 2300 UT Friday January 26; anyone hear
it? Next:
sked change again? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 1218.1 kHz, Jan 26 at 0735 UT, JBA carrier hetting
1220.0 stack. This time I try to DF it with the adjacent DX-398, but
cannot get a null on it. May well be something local or even internal
to the NRD. Next time I should turn that off and see if it`s still
audible on the DX-398; also, in daytime? Not so far. And it seems no
one else has heard it. But if anyone does detect it, even unID, do let
us know. And try to DF it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
