** CUBA. 11670, May 3 at 0619, RHC English on here and nowhere else,
including all 6 MHz channels off. S9+20 and with spurs about +/- 3
kHz. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 17480, May 3 at 1504, only JBA carrier direct
below 17500 is here, presumably Turkjammer and/or Dengê Welat (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Wed May 3 at 2130, REE Spanish show with a few songs
toward the end but mostly talk about them, and the final song had to
be interrupted at 2200 for accurate timesignal and into token English.
VG direct and other frequencies not checked. One news item about today
being the 30th anniversary of World Press Freedom Day. 2206 into Amy
Egan interview with a prof. from Edinburgh who specialises in Spanish
lit., in Madrid to moderate a discussion between a novelist and a very
different author. Don`t know them and can`t get interested so over to
TURKEY by 2222 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, May 3 at 2222 tune-in to VOT direct, VG today unlike
yesterday, just ending `Shipping Piles` ? about AI, and ``every hour``
promo liner, music. 2227 ``always by your side`` promo liner and
`Weekly Commentary` repeat of yesterday by Ibrahim ---. 2241 Feeling
Supreme/`The Healing Spring` about melissa ? tea, i.e. with honey? (I
agree with Alan Roe that T.H.S. name is clear as each episode starts,
but the canned opening & closing keep sounding like F.S.) 2249 music.
2253 s/off, off by 2254.6* without hearing any IS (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U A E. 15310.13v, May 3 at 1458, JBA carrier direct, BBC new Arabic
special for Sudan warming up via Dhabbaya site to start at 1500.
UTwente is inaccessible, so checking other SDRs: at 1518 Kenya gets it
S9/+10 at +42 Hz but I think its calibration is off; can`t get any 5,
10 or 15 MHz WWV to check. RSA remote is more like it, S9/+15 at +127
Hz. At 1527, Maryland SDR lox onto it altho inaudible, at 15310.132.
Back to Nairobi for closing: stops about 1529.5, dead air, and `World
Service` uttered before cut off 1530*.

Nicely correlating with such offfrequenciness is this about the other
Sudan service: ``Glenn, I'm listening to the new BBC Arabic Service to
the Sudan refugees on 21510.15 at 0702 (May 3), via the Kuwait SDR
(Chuck Albertson, Seattle, Wash.)`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2188 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday
May 2 at 2336 the 2330 on WRMI 9395, S9/+20.

Also confirmed Wednesday May 3 at 2100+ on WBCQ 7490-: JBA carrier

into Maryland SDR = 7489.927. Next:

** U S A. 17790, 15770, 9455, 9395, May 3 at 1502-1505+, all WRMI
channels supposed to be on now, are OFF. Wonder what`s the problem?
Hope not serious. There is NO lightning in Florida at this time.
Nothing about this at disgraced FB. I am first checking direct; and
noting that 15825 WWCR and 15555-USB WJHR are both VG, with sporadic E
boosts. 1526 recheck at Maryland SDR, nothing on the four WRMI
frequencies. Ditto at 1652. What will happen at 2100? 9955 & 5950 are
supposed to start, 17790 to stop. Just after 2100, via Maryland
remote, 15770 is in well, and the 9s are poor (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15555 USB, May 3 at 1502, WJHR VG direct at S9+10 tnx to
sporadic E boost, and 1503 ID as ``near Pensacola, Florida``, email
address. At this time 15825 WWCR is also boosted, but 15770 WRMI is
off, incomparable (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. Enid Commissioner accused of having white nationalist
ties sworn into City Commission [with audiovideo]

by: Natalie Clydesdale/KFOR
Posted: May 2, 2023 / 06:29 AM CDT Updated: May 1, 2023 / 11:35 PM CDT
[sic]

ENID, Okla. (KFOR) – Dozens of outraged Enid residents gathered both
inside and outside of Monday night’s city commission meeting to
demonstrate against the swearing in of a member accused of having ties
to a white nationalist group.

“It’s abhorrent. It’s inexcusable. Of course, as a priest, I pray for
him,” said Reverend James Neal of Holy Cross Enid.

Judd Blevins was elected to the Ward 1 seat on Enid’s City Commission
on Feb. 14 of this year. He was officially sworn into the position on
Monday night.

The protest of more than 50 community members at the City
Administration Building was sparked by Blevins’ alleged involvement
with a now disbanded white nationalist hate group called “Identity
Evropa.” ...

** TURKEY. 11785.009, May 2 at 2203, VOT is not off the air today,
S9+55/60 into UTwente, stronger than ever but somewhat
overmodulated/distorted especially the music. After news and ROTP, I
start paying more attention: 2217 sad song. 2220 `Weekly Commentary`
by Ibrahim ---, journalist etc. specialising in Turkstuff, read by the
heavy-accentedess, ``again danger for Turkish armed forces`` about an
aircraft carrier whose name I can`t possibly copy. If these announcers
were interested in really *communicating* with a foreign/language
audience, they would spell out names likely unfamiliar. Same model as
a ship of Spain? About number of helicopters, tanx, catapult launching
of drones and light jets, hospital. 2229 music. 2231 multi-lingual ID
filler reel. 2233 music. 2239 `Turkey`s Geomarked Products` about a
bread whose name I can`t understand, from Trabzon. I wonder if they
are trying go say ``geo-marketed`` as in exported. 2241 music. 2245
``always by your side`` promo liner. 2246 music. 2249 `with you every
hour` promo liner. 2252 quick check of reception direct: S9/+10 on
generous meter but *very* inferior to 11780 Brasil splashing mostly
evitable by USB tuning of 11785. 2153 sign/off with the usual defects
no doubt same recording. 2254.6 IS plays for one minute until 2255.6*.

0700-0730 daily on 21510. At 1500 I had nothing on 15310 direct, but
then hearing it via remote in RSA. Whatever became of the KiwiSDR

** OKLAHOMA. Stitt vetoes OETA bill, accuses network of trying to
'indoctrinate' kids --- Carmen Forman Apr 28, 2023 Updated 4 hrs ago

https://tulsaworld.com/news/state-and-regional/govt-and-politics/stitt-vetoes-oeta-bill-accuses-network-of-trying-to-indoctrinate-kids/article_5fc1a3b8-e5da-11ed-ae48-c31a4283a5d3.html

April 28, 2023 video. 'Some of the stuff that they're showing, it just
overly sexualizes our kids,' Gov. Stitt said of the public television
station.

OKLAHOMA CITY — Gov. Kevin Stitt is pushing to eliminate the Oklahoma
Educational Television Authority, alleging that the nation’s
most-watched Public Broadcasting Service network is airing content
aimed at indoctrinating children.

The network offers children’s programs such as “Sesame Street” and
“Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” in addition to the ever-popular
“Antiques Roadshow” and news programs “Washington Week” and “PBS
Newshour.”

Stitt on Wednesday vetoed a relatively routine bill that would
continue OETA’s operations through 2026. Unless two-thirds of the
members of the House and Senate join together to override the
governor’s veto, OETA will cease operating this year.

In a Friday news conference, the governor took aim at some of the
network’s content and said it’s an outdated notion for the state to
subsidize a television network.

“I don’t think Oklahomans want to use their tax dollars to
indoctrinate kids,” Stitt said. “Some of the stuff that they’re
showing just overly sexualizes our kids.”

Stitt criticized OETA for elevating LGBTQ voices and airing news
content related to gender-affirming care for minors.

To back up Stitt’s claims, a spokeswoman for the governor sent the
Tulsa World information showing that OETA promoted LGBTQ-focused Pride
Month programming in recent years.

The spokeswoman also shared information indicating that two animated
children’s cartoons — “Clifford the Big Red Dog” and “Work it out
Wombats!” — that air on PBS affiliates have included lesbian
characters in some episodes. The spokeswoman also sent a Fox News
article that criticizes a “PBS Newshour” segment in which an Indiana
couple talked about how gender-affirming care was beneficial for their
daughter.

OETA Executive Director Polly Anderson said the governor’s veto of
House Bill 2820 was unexpected.

She declined to comment further except to say, “It’s just really
unfortunate that this is going to hurt the people of Oklahoma.”

The Oklahoma Legislature appropriated $ 2.8 million to OETA in the
current fiscal year, a 10% decrease in funding from the prior year.
The network also receives private funding.

OETA has programming that represents a variety of cultural, social and
religious views, said Friends of OETA board member Ken Busby.

“OETA serves a diverse population, and Oklahoma has a diverse
population,” he said. “People need to be given choices, and they can
choose what they wish to watch and not watch. No one’s dictating that
you have to watch this program or like this program.”

Busby said he was surprised and disappointed by the governor’s veto..
But he expressed optimism that the governor will change his opinion
about the network upon learning about how many people watch OETA and
the public service it provides.

Especially for rural Oklahomans who don’t have cable television, OETA
is a critical piece of the state’s emergency alert system, he said.

“Our broadcast towers are how we inform a lot of rural Oklahoma about
disasters like tornadoes and thunderstorms,” Busby said.

Stitt last year vetoed $ 8.2 million in federal pandemic relief funding
earmarked for OETA to enhance its emergency communications
infrastructure.

The Oklahoma Legislature appears likely to override the governor’s
recent veto related to OETA.

House Speaker Charles McCall, R-Atoka, said his chamber has
traditionally supported OETA.

Senate Pro Tem Greg Treat, R-Oklahoma City, told reporters he once got
called into his predecessor’s office after opposing a previous bill to
continue OETA’s operations. Treat said he learned that OETA’s
broadcast transmitters are critical for the Department of Public
Safety and play a role in emergency communications across the state.

“Ever since then, I have supported its continuation,” he said.

About a decade ago, a group of GOP lawmakers unsuccessfully sought to
defund OETA.

Tulsa County resident Sally Keel, 83, told the Tulsa World on Friday
that her children grew up watching OETA. She still watches the channel
more than any other.

OETA programming speaks to Oklahomans of all ages, she said.

“It’s a wonderful channel,” Keel said. “I’m just flabbergasted. I
can’t believe this has come up.” carmen.forman@tulsaworld.com (via

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. Turmoil at WNYC over The Takeaway cancellation,

However, `The Takeaway` still exists, a new show with MHP dated May 1

termination date of June 2 as in the March story stands (Glenn Hauser,

** SPAIN. 17855, Monday May 1 at 1517, S8/S9 of dead air, no doubt
REE, North American frequency not supposed to start until *1800 M-F.

``[WOR] REE open carriers, 2305 UTC, April 30, 2023 --- Although Radio

I've been seeing/hearing open carriers for the last half-hour or so.
Ricky Leong, Calgary, Alberta, Canada``. 17715 for SAm is not on.

15520 I also check May 1 at 1520, S6/S8 and undermodulated? with
rumble, wobble, maybe Doppler flutter. This ME frequency starts at
*1500 weekdays, *1400 weekends. Something`s nonsensical at Noblejas.

17855, however, is on air later Monday May 1 with modulated
programming, 2200 accurate timesignal = WWV, opening token English on

introducing one of his favorites, `Grand Canyon Suite` by Ferde Grofé.
I find a remote with good S8/S9 reception that no one else is using
but have to keep restarting it as times out. Initially -20 Hz offset =

back-announcement; intro next Grofé piece, `Niagara Falls Suite`. I
may have missed the next break as circa 0300 I had to switch to the
other WBCQ, 6160-, to find the wrong WOR playing. Next announcement at
0314 after what sounded like different music. 0331 a jazzed-up version

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Sat Apr 29 at 2233, via Argentine
remote, LRA36 is still on air at recheck almost one bihour after
previous report when I suspended for other activities. But off by next
check at 2329.

Manuel Méndez, Spain, caught identities of the speakers I was hearing
in previous report; the YL is among the list of 5 Antarctic Women in
the new crewe reported before that: ``LRA 36 program with announcers
Juan Benavente "Uniendo Voces" and María Victoria Menéndez from the
new 2023 program "Ecos de la Antártida".`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140 & 11760, April 30 at 1456, both RHCs are JBA carriers,
boding ill for Sunday Esperanto to follow at 1500 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** NEW ZEALAND. 11725, April 30 at 0604, RNZI VG S9+10/20 direct,
found here after missing from 13840 at 0603. Another abrupt schedule
change; thru yesterday 13840 ran at 06-09 UT. Both equally good for
us, but maybe 13840 was not working for main Pacific islands target.
That may have been temporary due to geomag storm a week ago, but
wintry MUFs after dark may also be falling. Revised sked then on
website now shows 11725 straight thru from 0559 to 1258; preceded by
15720, followed by 7440: https://www.rnz.co.nz/international/listen
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. I sent this to KUCO April 29; times CDT = UT -5:
``I could hardly believe my ears Saturday afternoon listening to KUCO,
when music programming was twice interrupted for full-blown
commercials, could be originally TV sound. At 4:01 pm, Texoma Buick
Dealers. At 4:18 pm, T-Mobile. The first time I was listening to
stream, and double checked whether I had anything else running: no.
The second time I had switched to direct reception on 90.1. Thus it`s
clear these were actually transmitted by KUCO. I would be extremely
interested in knowing how this possibly could have happened, hopefully
assuming it was not intentional! Regards, Glenn Hauser, Enid`` (Glenn
Hauser, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Sunday April 30 at 1515, REE N American frequency is
OFF again today, while 17715 for SAm is JBA S3/S5 at least vs noise to
Bonaire SDR. Something`s not right at Noblejas (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, April 29 at 2254, VOT checked just in time via
UTwente to confirm it`s not off the air today as usual incomplete
sign-off airs, 2255 IS; pause at 2256 restart IS with extraneous
German IDs interspersed before shutoff at 2258+* S9+40/50 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2188 monitoring: confirmed Saturday

Also confirmed UT Sunday April 30 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9/+10 into
Louisiana SDR but noisy.

Also confirmed UT Sunday April 30 from 0318 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO,

*NOTE: rather belatedly on April 30 we see this advisory on the website
https://www.uniqueradio.biz/
``NB - As of March 7th Unique Radio is ceasing streaming and shortwave
broadcasting due to some security issues being experienced. Podcasts
are continuing. Most producers have decided to continue on the podcast
platform. Jen's streaming of her programs continue on the 'Jen Listen
64K ' button above.``
Yet the ``schedule`` still shows WOR at the former times, so I suppose
SW and/or streaming could resume just as abruptly? Sun 0800 & Wed
1000.

** U S A. (7490-), April 29 at 0000 UT, I start semilistening to
`AAAWWW` on WBCQ webcast. It`s not long before they refer to Pres.
Biden as a ``criminal`` and laud T**** who really is a criminal. I can
hardly stand to keep on it, but recheck toward the end. For once, new
Free Radio Weekly has arrived on time tnx to this week`s rotating
editor Harold Frodge. AW picks a few items to read cold, never with
full details beyond frequency, station, type of programming. One of
those was R. Eastern Star on 7400, reported only by never mentioned,
yours truly (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15555 USB, April 30 at 1454, WJHR with dead gospel huxter,
S9+10 while 15770 WRMI & 15825 WWCR are JBA carriers: a fine example
of a sporadic E MUF working from a limited area, between the other
two. In ordinary conditions, WJHR is JBA at best, running a few kW?
always despite licensed minimum 50 kW (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
