** CHINA [non]. 11980, Jan 2 at 2319, CGTN/CRI in English
undermodulated S5/S9, = 2 x 5990 where much stronger. Something`s
always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, Jan 2 at 2315, S9+30/40 of dead air except for hum.
11850 at 2317 is S9+20/25 and attains just barely modulation, with hum
and much weaker parasitic spurs 11840 & 11860 vs residual jamming.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also CHINA
[non]

** EGYPT. 9439.995, Jan 2 at 2117, R. Cairo enters another year of
abject failure, no signal today in English into UTwente. Something`s
always amiss at Abis (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6955 USB, Jan 2 at 2324, rock music, S9 vs S9+10
storm crashes; 2326 I copy one word, ``Whatever`` -- many logs of R.
Free W.e.:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,107693.0.html

6925 AM, Jan 2 at 2325, S9+15/20 of rock music vs storm crashes. A few
logs here as Classic Rock Radio:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,107699.0.html
There are heavy lightning lines N/S along the KS/MO, OK/AR and TX/LA
borders as well as further east centred around Paducah. Fortunately
most of this wx missed our part of OK and is hurrying away (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 90.1, Monday Jan 2 circa 2345 UT, KUCO-FM, local
classical programming seems to have resumed, partially, as planned.
Kent Anderson previews the evening in CST = UT -6: 6, Exploring Music,
7 Performance Today, 9 New York Philharmonic, 11 Wolf Trap. Homepage
now says:

``Happy New Year from KUCO --- Warm tidings, and welcome to 2023.

As KUCO continues to digitize it exceptional classical music library
(and it will for sometime to come) January returns our local, weekday
hosts Kimberly Powell, Curt Timmons, and Kent Anderson back to the air
waves playing the beautiful music so many enjoy. All of KUCO thanks
our listening members for their patience as we transitioned to a new
on-air system over these past few weeks that will assist us with our
library digitization. Your phone calls, emails, and kind words of
support on social media were appreciated.

Another transition soon to take place is the launch of the new KUCO FM
website. Preparations are underway to sync playlist information to the
new site (another facet of digitizing our music library) and
validating links and connections. Information shall be forthcoming.

KUCO is excited to present 'Performance Today' each weekday at 9am and
encored at 7pm. This nationally-recognized, Peabody Award-winning
classical music program, hosted by Fred Child, is the most listened-to
daily classical music radio program in the United States.

Performance Today is followed by Exploring Music at 11am and Curt
Timmons at Noon playing locally-programmed, long-format pieces for
your listening pleasure. Please reference the weekly music schedule to
know when your favorite program airs.

The 2023 resolution of KUCO is to continue playing more locally
programmed classical music to the communities we serve and be
Oklahoma's Voice for the Performing Arts. It is only possible with
members like you who support this endeavor. Happy New Year, and thank
you for your support.``

And the websked now updated:
https://www.kucofm.com/programs/program-schedule-grid/

So much for the 3-hour M-F jazz show at 9 pm from Kansas City? Another
short-lived strip of one-hour programs from elsewhere M-F at 10 am was
already gone. I am pleased to see that altho gone from Sunday
afternoons, two of my favorites are somewhere: `Wind & Rhythm` - band
music at 8 pm Sundays; and `Feminine Fusion`, at 11 pm Thursdays.
Other orchestra broadcasts are stripped M-F at 9 pm, including own
`Performance Oklahoma` now at that time on Thursdays, still repeated
Saturdays at 8 am. `Classical Through the Night` is now the title at
12-6 am 7 days, so back to NC`s WCPE? No, overnight is called
`Sleepers Awake`, with their only? Black announcer, Sherman Wallace:
https://theclassicalstation.org/about-us/meet-the-announcers/
No, at 0628 does not match WCPE stream and announcer is someone else.
Info about module programs such as StarDate still has not been updated
since 2017 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 91.7, KOSU, Jan 2 at 2001 UT, the NPR news ``hole`` is
really empty, 6+ minutes of dead air until 2007.7 JIP `The World` --
automation without any human oversight wins again (Glenn Hauser, Enid,
WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Mon Jan 2 at 2300, REE in token English makes S9+25
direct on meter, but too much storm crashing N/E of here. Feature
topic something about a play. Pass. 11940 & 12030 totally unusable
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 2 at 2300, VOT English seems to be on, but VP
direct with storm crashes, worse than Spain. Not convenient for me to
bring up remotes (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2171 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday January
3 at 0130 on WRMI 9395, VG S9+25 into Missouri SDR. Tried Athens GA
first and got zilch! Jeff still tried to start his ``world is in
turmoil`` ad between ID and WOR. Next:

0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v OR 5130v to WSW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW

Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330.041+, Jan 2 at 2122, UTwente displays this WBCQ-6
frequency, not outstanding signal only S7/S9, WLCR in Spanish (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7505, Jan 3 at 0354, have not paid much attention to WRNO
lately, but it`s S9+10/20 now with music Just Barely Modulated. The
incompetence of so many SW stations continues to amaze (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. I`m very sorry for the FB player who collapsed in a game,
but I can`t believe how at least MSNBC and CNN blew away most or all
of their other news programming for the next hours, starting before
0300 UT Jan 3, merely to speculate on his critical condition and
bewilder that the game was axually stopped. Surely there are countless
far more significant people who have suffered in some way during the
same time period without any notice by the media. I might add that
anyone who voluntarily engages in a violent ``sport`` is asking for it
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU [and non]. 7260: I notified Adrian Sainsbury, RNZ about the
QRMongolia as in my last report, and he promptly replied that he would
get on it pronto; apparently is a frequency advisor for R. Vanuatu
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1386, Jan 3 at 0354 UT earlier than usual complete 9/kHz
split bandscan for JBA carriers, such as Benin on 1566? Only one
audible is here, worst possible spot next to blasting 1390 local KCRC.
If not a coincidental spur out of that, what have we TAs in WRTH? O
yes, a neat catch would be 75 kW Radio Baltic Waves, Lithuania, which
relays Ukraine et al. Not much else: 50 kW in Kenya, 10 kW in Egypt,
1-watt LPAMs in UK, unknown power in Greece (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 7850 CUSB, Jan 2 at 1914, this CHU is still off, but 14670
CUSB is on. The clueless/useless System Status page still does not
acknowledge:
https://nrc.canada.ca/en/chu-short-wave-station/
I first noted it AWOL on Dec 31 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Jan 2 at 0730, JBA carrier confidently from R.
Kiribati, London, where it`s way past LSS; while there is nothing in
Europe more than 3 kW Ireland, and higher powers beyond are well past
LSR; and no other split carriers audible except 711 likely Western
Sahara, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MADAGASCAR [and non]. 15360, Jan 2 at 1924, talk in unknown
language, S9/+10 but JBM! Scheduled is AWR in Hausa thisaway at
1900-1930. The best strength extracontinental signal on any band 9-18
MHz now in degraded propagation. Hardly any VOA Botswana on 15580
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15740, Jan 2 at 1922, S9+10 of open carrier, no doubt VOA
Grimesland warming up here to avoid overlap with Botswana site on
15730 as French service swaps sites at 1930; yes, now much stronger
and modulated signal on 15730, no 15740. Why aren`t these regular
warmup frequencies in EiBi? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2171 monitoring: confirmed UT Monday January
2 at 0053, the 0030 on WRMI 7780, S5/S8 into Maryland SDR.

Not confirmed UT Monday January 2 at 0400 on WBCQ Radio Angela 6160
minus 65 Hz = 6159.935 into Rochester SDR --- instead continues with
some rock music show but WOR starts abruptly at 0431, not HRI which
presumably would have been a week-to-week repeat, but why? Next:

0130 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW

** U S A. 9330.00, Jan 2 at 1546, WLC Radio on WBCQ-6 in English, once
again ON-frequency! matching no offset of 9395 WRMI. It can be done!
But why is it still appearing way off-frequency-minus at other chex?
Could two different transmitters be involved? Or frequency-generating
modules? 1913, it`s off again, must still be problematic (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 17790, Jan 2 at 1918, NO signal from WRMI Radio Africa to
South America. Never a powerhouse thisaway but ought to be at least a
trace if on. 17700 VOA NC is blasting in at S9+40; and next WRMI on
15770 is normal at S9+10 despite degraded propagation (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** VANUATU [and non]. 7260, Jan 2 at 0714, RV is JBA, still here, but
note!:

``MONGOLIA. 7260, Mongolian Radio (Radio 1), 0918-0940 UT, Jan 2;
first day I have noted their reactivation here with a decent signal
strength; totally overpowering R. Vanuatu also on frequency, causing
QRM for Mongolia; 0918-0926, announcers; 0926+, indigenous
music/singing. Thanks very much to Hiroyuki Komatsubara (Japan) for
determining it is Radio 1 programming. Website (translated) -
bit.ly/3WWFocJ
Also see
https://radio.chobi.net/DX/bbs/?res:5253#5253
Ron Howard, California``

bit.ly link shows Radio 1 on air from 06 to 23 local = 22 to 15 UT.
Second link goes to YouTubes and ``This frequency has been stopped for
a long time due to the CORONA-Virus(COVID-19), but is it a revival or
temporary ?``

WRTH 2022, not mentioning 7260 but referring to 4830 & 4895, says
``All SW txs are officially scheduled to be on the air on a regular
basis 2300-0500 & 0700-1500``. Such a schedule would cause further
confusion with Vanuatu and even less should persuade it to move again,
perhaps to 5040/3945 + harmonix (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** WESTERN SAHARA. 711 kHz, Jan 2 at 0730 UT, only 9/kHz split JBA
carrier, besides Kiritimati 846; remnant from the 300 kW Moroccan
imperialist SNRT station is far more likely this late than anything
further into Afroeurasia. Gaisma.com considers W.S. a separate country
from Morocco like we do and shows today`s al-'Ayūn SR at 0943 local,
i.e. UT+1 but italicized as if DST were in force now, which would mean
0743 UT. At timeanddate.com search you have to spell it all-'Ayūn but
eventually leads to
https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/western-sahara/el-aaiun
also as a separate country, which shows today`s SR at 8:42 am local in
UT+1 = 0742 UT. So westward prop from this NW tip of Africa is still
possible and for some minutes longer still in the dark. Six months
from now circa Summer Solstice, LSR will be as early as 0603 UT. Note
also, that at long. 13.2 west, this ought to be in the middle of the
UT MINUS ONE timezone! So if ever observing UT+2 would be triple-DST
like western China (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA [and non]. 1610 kHz, Jan 1, 2023 at 0223 UT, Spanish music
presumed CHHA Toronto, again with a het about 1610.65. This time it
appears to come from around my desktop not near the radio in another
room and even further from the LW antenna. IDs are sparse, but with
1610 reaching S9+10/20 at 0611, unusually I bring up the CHHA stream
and confirm it`s // a few seconds apart (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA [and non]. 14670 RC USB, Dec 31, 2022 at 2357, we choose to
greet the Universal New Year with CHU rather than WWV, heard past 0000
UT Jan 1, 2023; S9+10/20 here but still absent from 7850, very poor on
3330. At 0248 I notice what sounds like Cuban pulse jamming peaking
aboout 7835 and 7847, spurs? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11880, Dec 31, 2022 at 2257, S9/+10 of dead air or maybe JBM,
toward end of the nominal 2200 hour in English, but fracassed more
often than not. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 6060, Jan 1, 2023 at 0810, only RHC still on and with weekly
Esperanto, S9/+10 but JBM under hum level. Something`s always wrong at
RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** INDONESIA. 7290-, Jan 1, 2023, at 0807, JBA carrier presumed RRI
Nabire, even weaker than 7260 Vanuatu (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Jan 1, 2023 after 0700, no signal from R.
Kiribati, presumed off for another silent Sunday, and Gary Pence
agrees. Nor any other 9/kHz split carriers audible here (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** NETHERLANDS [non]. 5950, Sun Jan 1, 2023, The Mighty KBC at its new
time and station, WRMI relay. At 2201 it`s S9/+10 fading, hardly a
solid signal in mostly day-path from much closer transmitter than
ex-Germany 5960 over night-path at 00-02 Sundays. Direct reception
will improve during the bihour, but worsen from week to week thru
Summer Solstice as there is more and more light on the path NW from
FL. If stuck at same time competing with WBCQ musical programming,
should migrate to a higher band by A-23 if not sooner. Normally, WBCQ
could expect better reception but 7490 is still down leaving `Marion`s
Attic` on a substitute JBA 5130 carrier direct. Must get Maryland SDR
going to hear that at -52 Hz offset = 5129.948, S6/S7. By A-23 during
DST at earlied UT hour of 21, M`A on 7490 will again be unusable the
rest of season. Of course WBCQ ``7490`` webcast is still running with
5130 programming before R. Angela which is deliberately unwebbed;
while WRMI`s only stream is of 9955 programming (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6955 USB, Dec 31, 2022 immediately at 2326.8
tune-in, ``This is Outhouse Radio, without a doubt``, song, S7/S9,
still at 2355. Many more logs here and some SSTV captures of skull &
crossbones:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,107584.0.html

6925 USB, Dec 31, 2022 at 2355, hard rock at S7/S8 past 0000 UT
January 1, 2023. Many logs here as Sycko Radio:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,107590.0.html

Also a JBA AM carrier on 6965 at 2355, nothing listed or reported
currently in HFU.

6935 USB, Jan 1, 2023 at 0132, now the only pirate on band (OPOB) is
here with music, S9. Still at 0211; DJ yelling at 0217; off at next
check 0247.
Many reports here of Zeke, or Zekey:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,107600.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.001+, Sunday Jan 1, 2023, S9+30 into
UTwente, several chex during the 2300 English hour always hear Turkish
music, so wonder if non-English feed instead? No, 2354 finally s/off
in English claiming this has been the 1330 broadcast on 12035! and a
bit of IS, 2356 restarting but cut off before can start German IDs;
uncovering XJPBS. Something`s awry at Ankara (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2171 monitoring: confirmed Saturday
December 31 starting at 2032 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+20 groundwave
into nearby KiwiSDR.

Also confirmed UT Sunday January 1 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S8/S9 into
Louisiana SDR.

Also confirmed UT Sunday January 1 from 0424 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, S9+20
direct.

Also confirmed Sunday January 1 at 2100 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323
kHz only, S9+10/20 into nearby Noale SDR, good way over musical CCI
from understation, England? Next:

** U S A. 5950, UT Sun Jan 1 from 0100, Texas R SW via WRMI with NY
show of TX mx; courtesy ID by different voices at each break including
one from yours truly at 0112.5. Then a couple of early singles by
Willie Nelson. DJ is a YL voice which Terry has assured is a real
person. Listened to most of the 2-hour show.

15 kHz is not far enough away from 5935 WWCR: at 0135, inevitable
splash from dead Gene Scott, who is S9+40/50 and much louder mod than
WRMI only S9+10/20 and with lower mod. Also QRM from other side, Cuban
jamming against no República on 5955. By 0155 WWCR has diminished a
bit to only S9+30/40 as undead Pastor Melissa Scott is speaking less
loudly; but now there is SAH fading on 5950 from another carrier, but
no co-channel modulation detectable. Nothing else in Aoki, while EiBi
has Ethiopia from 0255 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5130v, Jan 1, 2023 at 0251, WBCQ R. Angela, S8/9+10 last
part of Greek pirates show; 0300 NY special with excerpts of several
regular programs, some of which I have not caught on the complex
weekly-or-monthly schedule. At 0308 direct it`s S9/S8 with fades
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5950, Jan 1, 2023 at 0550, S9+10/20 of dead air from WRMI,
ditto at 0553, 0606 chex and still 0812 when I finally QRT. WRMI-8 is
scheduled to quit at 0500, except in System E TOMBS grid dated TWO
YEARS AGO as all night and all day. Must have been too busy
celebrating at Okee to remember to turn off the transmitter. I wonder
how many $ per hour of wasted electrical fluid that cost (Glenn Hauser
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5882 & 5898 approx., Jan 1, 2023 at 0814, spurious artefacts
out of 5890 WWCR transmitter of TOMBS. I think this results from
defective dirty audio feed out of Walterboro, which stations need to
filter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7260, Jan 1, 2023 at 0807, R. Vanuatu JBA here (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5051, open carrier I am still hearing at various night
times as of Jan 1, but weaker than before. Art Delibert had replied on
Dec 29:
``FYI, the carrier on 5051 is already fading in here -- first noted at
a very weak level when I tuned in at about 2042, but growing stronger.
FWIW, it's strongest with the SAL-12 antenna pointed north, but that
may not mean anything -- it may just be the direction from which I've
got the lowest local noise (which is fierce this time of year b/c of
holiday lights). Regards, Art Delibert, North Bethesda, MD`` (Glenn

NO show by LRA36 into Uruguay or best Argentine SDR, so that`s it for
2022 Cycle; managed only 20 minutes on Wed Dec 28. If they are in a

these mornings (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. Re 9819.106, as heard on WOR 2171 tnx to Gary Pence, from
Ben Dawson of Hatfield-Dawson Consulting Engineers: ``Glenn, Thank you
for playing the recording of the station ID by R. Nove de Julho from
its shortwave transmission. The 100 kW RNJ. medium wave on 1600 uses
an antenna feed system that we designed and that Steve Lockwood and I
implemented. The MW antenna has much higher voltages than the local
design engineer predicted, and so we designed and Harris Broadcast
fabricated antenna tuning equipment that used techniques we would
normally have employed for a much higher power facility in order to
handle the voltages. Even our Brazilian engineering colleague was
unaware that RNJ was still operating the shortwave transmitter. Ben``

** CANADA [and non]. 1610, Dec 31 at 0737, VP algo not up to CHHA
Toronto`s usual quality; off or reduced power? Frequency worth
exploring for otherness: if not Montreal or US TIS, no Anguilla but a
few probably low-powered in Perú, Argentina; or N American pirates?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 7850 RCUSB, Dec 31 at 0725, NO signal from CHU: must be
off, not propped out since 6754 USB bears usual good S9+10 signal from
CHR, Trenton Military. 3330 CHU is still audible but rather weak,

At 1757 UT Dec 31, all three ON, and no outages since May 30, 2022!
Don`t you believe it (Glenn Hauser, OK WOR)

** CUBA. 10080, Dec 31 at 0714, RHC Spanish again mistuned to second
harmonic of 5040 where there is only a JBA carrier. S9+10/20
overmodistorted.

5025, OTOH, Dec 31 at 0715, R. Rebelde is S9+20/30 on fundamental,
with NO harmonic on 10050; similar overmodistortion to 10080.
Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6165, Dec 31 at 0717, RHC Spanish S9+10 but undermodulated,
// 10080; At 0719, only other is 6100, S9+20 with good modulation in
Spanish, wrong language instead of English. Something`s always wrong
at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 9710, Dec 31 at 1601* tuned in RHC ID just a few seconds
before cut off air. 13700 was already off well before 1600. What else?
By 1607, 11760 & much weaker 15140 still on as sked, but at 1608 so is
stronger S9+10 unsked 15230. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI [and non]. 846 kHz, Dec 31 at 0730, JBA carrier from R.

** NIGERIA. 7255-, Dec 31 at 0722, VON at S6/S9 in presumed Fulfulde,
managing to modulate again tonight, altho under- (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2171 monitoring: confirmed UT
Saturday December 31 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, S9+15/25 into Missouri
SDR.

Also confirmed UT Sat Dec 31 at 0500 on WBCQ Radio Angela, 5130, S9/+5
into Missouri SDR as it`s skipping over closer ones like NH, and
offset -21 Hz = 5129.979. But only the first minute! As dumps OFF the
air at 0501* and never resumes. Immediately I asked Uncle Bill, what
happened? ``Excellent question, going to check with Monticello. Your
whole show was loaded to the server so timer issue or human error
there`` and at 0522, ``I wouldn't expect us back tonite, skeleton crew
right now``.

Also confirmed Sat Dec 31 at 1700 on WRN webcast for North America.

** U S A. (7489.9v not), Dec 31 from 0100, WBCQ webcast still running
if not the primary SW transmitter, for `AAAWWW`. At first sounds like
several other people in studio but it`s just A&A. Yes, her mike is on!
Mentions that two staff at Monticello are under the weather, CE Tom,
and Jeff. Was one of them the electrocuted? Also TimTron but not clear
what ails him. Trimulcasting? 6160 & 5130 but not 7490 which failed:
there is a backup transmitter for that frequency but no staff there
who can hook it up. A&A are still in Florida.

But did Jason get the ``backup`` frequency 3265 on the air? Yes, at
0112 the NH SDR is getting it well, S8/S9, as usual way
off-frequency+plus and constantly varying, at several further chex:
+136/144/186/169/172 Hz, etc. At 0220 I try for it direct, but no
trace of it, already off. AW also says the SuperStition does not
always run 500 kW; if 300, 250 or even 100 is sufficient for a certain
target, power is reduced. Runs on high voltage which can kill you,
4160 X 3, and hundreds of amps.

Most of A&A`s discussion is lamenting everything going digital and
computer controlled, always causing problems when something goes
wrong, and not easily fixed like analog stuff used to be; not only in
radio, but cars, etc. A few anti-government remarx, but not heavily
insulting Democrats this week.

0134 datestamp as 30 of December, YOOLF 2022. 0138 recommendation to
avoid stress for better health, longer life. 0142 reads parts of two
Radio World articles about preserving AM radio, FCC guy addressing
farmers; and Sen. Markey on that subject. 0155 email. 0159 prayer, as
always running over so joining Hal Turner late about 0201 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5130 minus 21 Hz = 5129.979, UT Sat Dec 31 at 0330, WBCQ
Radio Angela with `Greek Music Refuge`, S7 into Missouri SDR vs storm
crashes from northern Gulf of Mexico, off coasts of LA/MS/AL, and into
the FL panhandle. So not very good reception but enjoy the music tho
cannot understand the lyrix, nor the brief announcements in English by
Zach Liangas and Anastasia (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330.00, Dec 31 at 0711 I can hardly believe my ears but
WBCQ-6 SuperStition with WLC Radio in English, is ON-frequency!! Not
measured, but tuning -1 kHz USB, pitch matches that of 9395 WRMI which
is never more than a few Hz off. No Cuban spy now. It`s S9+10/20 so
unlikely a substitute transmitter. But this does not last: next check
at 1557, measured 9329.809, S9+10 in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7260, Dec 31 at 0722, JBA carrier from R. Vanuatu, still

unseems Christian, then talk in unknown language. Nothing in Big 3
schedules at this hour; AWR via Sri Lanka to Pakistan not scheduled
until 1630. AWR also sked later on 15360 via SL or Madagascar. Some
NYE extension? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 1610, Dec 30 at 0713 UT, only JBA signal instead of usual
sufficient CHHA Toronto; is it off? Soon fades up some Spanish music,

** CUBA. 6165, Dec 30 at 0728, S9+10/20 of dead air from RHC; likewise
only other still on, 11670 at S5/S9. But is the dead air in English
and/or Spanish? Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 13680, Dec 30 at 2112, RHC in Brazuguese but suptorted with

modulate! in some African language: scheduled to switch from Hausa to

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. This article never mentions OETA, which claims
to cover all of Oklahoma, as on the map abottom this page:
https://www.oeta.tv/about/
including Idabel in McCurtain county but certainly with outdated
analog translator channel numbers like 73 there. At least on cable to
that county and 76 others??

Of course, OETA has only ONE hour a week of `Oklahoma News Report`
with a few repeats. It used to have a M-F half hour of news, which
included items from several cooperating commercial TV stations in
Tulsa, OKC, Lawton? Not any more. gh. Viz.:

``Data shows voting sagged in ‘orphan counties’ lacking news sources
By Keaton Ross Oklahoma Watch 22 hrs ago

Tucked away in the southeast corner of the state, McCurtain County
residents receive television news from Shreveport, La.

Shreveport is a slightly closer drive than Oklahoma City or Tulsa, and
its stations rarely delve into Oklahoma politics. With statewide
newspaper circulation a thing of the past, state Rep. Eddy Dempsey
said his constituents mostly rely on spotty broadband service to keep
up with developments at the state Capitol.

“The sad part is, if I lived another mile west I’d be able to get them
(Oklahoma news channels),” said Dempsey, a Republican from Valliant
whose district covers all of McCurtain County and southern LeFlore
County. “If I used my address in Oklahoma City I could maybe get those
channels. But why should I have to do that when I live in the state of
Oklahoma?”

McCurtain County is an orphan county, a term coined by researchers to
describe areas that receive little to no in-state public affairs
coverage or political advertisements because of their media market
placement.

Orphan counties can be found scattered across Oklahoma. Cimarron,
Texas and Beaver counties in the Panhandle receive television news
from Amarillo, Texas. Stations in Fort Smith, Ark., serve Sequoyah and
Le Flore counties...``

** SPAIN. 9690, Fri Dec 30 after 2300, token English from REE, Justin
Coe reviewing excerpts from his interviews past year, some of which I
remember hearing before, including: performer on a tricycle; 2311
American discovering European art Alun (sp?) W. Moore; ending with the
classical singer who confronts coughers and phoners in his audience,
but concludes with light-hearted ``Short People`` by Randy Newman.
After 2330 switch to French I check the other frequencies into
Maryland SDR: 11940 & 12030 are weaker but quite sufficient; 11685 for
Africa still absent (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.003+, Dec 30 after 2300, VOT English is VG
S9+25/35 into UTwente, soon joined by CCI from CC Chicom understation,
but way below this time; news and usual features, music breaks,
including at 2347-2350, `DYKT?` the longest [strong??] bridge is in
Tuerkiye, at border with Greece and Bulgaria, built in 1443, 1,270m,
174 arches, of limestone, travertine. Still in use today; more
dimensions, etc. Music break and 2353 s/off, and off right away by
2355*, no German. Uncovers XJPBS only S7/S9; 2300 timesig, theme,
joined by another carrier causing SAH (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Among a number of 10m ham beacons, Dec 30 at 2100/2103 by
sporadic E, two on almost but not exactly same frequency, WI5V info:

28230+, E E E E E E E E NG7I/B:

28230+, but slightly lower from BFO pitch, VVV VVV VVV QRA W7PFR/B:
28.2308 W7PFR C MINERAL, WASHINGTON # 1.5W, VERTICAL New 8 February 13
presumed QRT [NOT] (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 11720, Dec 30 at 2134, I remember to check for Friday`s
`Music Time in Africa` which during B-seasons only is beamed eastward
from VOA Grimesland NC, but also hefty VG signal off the back to here.
Heather Maxwell thinx its at the half-hour. Interruptions for promos,
one right away claiming the times for it are Fri 0900, Sat 0900, 1500
and 2200 on voanews.com -- no mention of this time or anything about
SW! A few minutes later they plug MTIA`s YouTube channel for
``everything``. Music is mostly Africanized Xmas carols. A
``needle-drop`` segment, apparently a music quiz for a caller-in. Off
the air after 2200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2171 monitoring: confirmed UT
Friday December 30 at 0330, first SW airing on WRMI 7780, but a JBA
carrier direct; despite storm line from SE TX to central AR, best
remote is Maurice LA, S5/S8, better than Missouri S6/S7 with more
stormcrashes, Maryland S7 vs HNL. (BTW, 7730 still off the air).

Not checked next airing, 0830 UT Friday on WRMI 5010 and/or 5850, too
asleep; did anyone? Conflicting info about OTH Radio at 08-09 Friday
only, on 7780 or 5850? Indonesia relay is normally at 08-09 on 7780,
but this week Ron Howard heard OTH instead; so does that mean WOR was
still on 5850??

Finally some good news: WOR 2171 confirmed Friday December 30 at 1530
on WRMI 9955, S9/S4 direct. Despite skedgrid, 9955 had been turned off
after 1500 for a few weeks, but WOR continued on WRMI`s only frequency
with webcast. Today WOR to completion at 1559; 1600 a few intrusive YL
words, and switch to TOMBS. Now checking Maryland SDR, still on at
1645, but off by 1707, so can we now rely on 9955 SW at least until
1600? Once off but still tuned to 9955, Maryland is getting strange
chirping: that`s 5 kHz off high-pitched Firedrake ChiCom jamming on
9950 against RFA Saipan at 17-19.

Also confirmed Friday December 30 at 2149 the 2130 on IRRS SW via AM
Italia, Villa Estense, 1323 kHz only, VG S9+15 into nearby Noale SDR,
no QRM or fading. 2200 ``signing off`` but stays on with Feature Story
News. Next:
