Subject: [HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs February 11, 2024

FRANCE. 6000-6005-6010, Feb 11 at 0800 as I am trying to monitor
RHC Esperanto on 6000, QRDRM noise ACI to it; see CUBA. Another test
from TDF, which lately had been on +6195+ at 0730-0800 but not now.
Unknown whether 6195 abandoned or just QSYed at 0800. TDF DRM at
0800-0900 on 6005 is already in EiBi and drmrx.org but not Aoki. HFCC
shows 100 kW at 350 degrees from ISS, i.e. into N Atlantic, Arctic
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RCUSB, Feb 11 at 0100*, LRA36 off exactly as
scheduled, concluded from last report (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, Sun Feb 11 at 0757, this RHC is unusually still on;
S9/+20 vs line noise level of S9+30 but undermodulated and have
trouble recognizing language but probably English. 0800 into weekly
Esperanto as I do recognize theme and a few words. Uncopied this time,
but they always announce 6100 as the 08 hours frequency, where it was
for longtime but 6100 totally off the air for months now. Something`s
always wrong at RHC. And now there is also QRDRM! noise from
6000-6005-6010, requiring LSB tuning of 6000 to hear anything at all.
RHC should really be on 6100 for this, even for half an hour per week,
but that would make too much sense and be too much trouble. Esperanto
is lucky to be on *any* RHC at this hour. See FRANCE (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** FRANCE. 6000-6005-6010, Feb 11 at 0800 as I am trying to monitor
RHC Esperanto on 6000, QRDRM noise ACI to it; see CUBA. Another test

Unknown whether 6195 abandoned or just QSYed at 0800. TDF DRM at

shows 100 kW at 350 degrees from ISS, i.e. into N Atlantic, Arctic
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6955 USB, Feb 11 at 0302, rock music, S9/+10. The
R75 NB really helps, not the NR. Off by 0410 recheck. These say it`s
WTF Radio Worldwide, off at 0316 or 0317*
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,125408.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6935 AM, Feb 11 at 0411, pirate music; QRM from
Spanish 2-way ``pesky`` about 6933.70 USB. These say it`s Trance Radio
on 6934.967:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,125411.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 17 = virtual 17, K17JN-D, Enid`s only local TV signal
but certainly no local origination! Feb 11 at 0405 UT in a DTV
bandscan on the STB I encounter a `new` one labeled 30-9, Radio 74
`Audio only` but really leading to RF-17, while the other virtual 17s
no longer include Radio 74 audio - why in the world change it to
``30-9``? All the lower virtual 30s trace to RF 29 KTUZ Shawnee/OKC.
So it`s time for another survey of what`s really on K17JN-D, circa
0430 UT Feb 11. I suppose some of these might differ depending on time
of day?? But first, current info copied from rabbitears.info, quite
out of date:

Display Physical
Channel Channel Call Sign Network/Programming
17-1 17.1 K17JN-D 3ABN
17-2 17.2 QuoVida Amazing Facts TV
17-3 17.3 SmrtLfS Hope Channel
17-4 17.4 HopeCh1 LLBN
17-5 17.5 AmFacts 3ABN Music Radio
17-6 17.6 LLBN-EN Radio 74
17-7 17.7 3ABN-RL [Blank]

Here`s what I get: all display = virtual 17 except for 30-9!

17-1 K17JI-D* 3ABN *[STILL TYPOED WRONG!!!]
17-2 3ABN-PR Proclaim
17-3 [black and silent but WITH signal!]
17-4 3ABN-ES 3ABN Latino
17-5 3ABN-KD kids.tv
17-6 [skipped]
17-7 3ABN-RD Audio only [preaching]
17-8 3ABN-RL Audio only [silent!]
17-9 [skipped]
17-10 3ABN-MR Audio only [music] ``The musical mind`` - ``3ABN
Music Channel``
30-9 Radio74 Audio only [really Physical RF17 like all the others]
The 3abn.org website has extensive info including ways-to-watch,
everything but an on-air station list! (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2229 monitoring: confirmed UT
Sunday February 11 at 0100 on WRMI 9955, S9 into Maryland SDR while
JBA in deep South America; no jamming audible.

Missed checking WA0RCR, 1860 AM until after 0500 when not heard past
0600 so probably and hope ran circa nominal 0415 UT Sunday Feb 11.

Missed checking Sun 1130 on WRMI 9955, zzz; anyone hear it? Next:

2100 UT Sunday IRRS 1323-Italy
2230 UT Sunday SW Radio, Germany 3975

As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated. Thanks this
week to our friend Frank in Stockton, lower Alabama for some cash and
says ``Dear Mr Hauser, Thank you for your program. Shortwave has been
a source of great enjoyment and education for me. Greetings and best
wishes``, preferably by MO or check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, PO
Box 1684, Enid OK 73702/

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to:
woradio at yahoo.com

``World of Radio is the premiere news and information radio service
produced by respected shortwave journalist Glenn Hauser``
http://wbcq.com/schedule/index.php?fn=p&id=18
which includes one imaginary airing on 5130 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Feb 11 at 0252 UT:
801, 855-2, 1044. The beat on 855 is 2.4 Hz, likely two from Spain;
mwoffsets shows 7 RNE outlets each on a slightly different frequency.
I see a couple 2.2 Hz apart. Plus two more in the master list. 801 is
unusual, but a het on 800 KQCV OK. There are a bunch of medium-powers
in Spain, 10/25 kW. For 100+ kW, only Iran and Ethiopia, unlikely.
1044 also likely Spain. Considerable local line noise level only these
could overcome even as JBA carriers; otherwise surely would have found
more (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Sat Feb 10 at 2300, LRA36 is on again,
tnx to advance notice from Adrián Korol of RAE via Manuel Méndez. My
favorite Argentine SDR is offline, so I bring up another one with a
rather noisy signal, but 2301 s/on M&W chatting. It`s quite distorted
too and hard to understand, maybe fault of rx not tx? 2327 I try
Brasília and find it just as bad, so transmitter fault. Too painful to
keep listening. By 0000 Feb 11 modulation improved but now someone is
on a lofi phone line. 0013 into lofi music, but still mostly talk with
some distortion; very rapid and colloquial conversation, rather than
broadcast-quality speech with clarity and comprehension in mind. 0029
check direct: audible at S4 about the same as noise level. Argentine
SDR also has intermittent high noise cutting on and off (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 90.1, Sat Feb 10 at 1044 UT when I happen to awaken,
``The Moldau`` is just ending and program ID as `Gameplay` -- so that
reconfirms the secret programming Sats at 4-5 am CT i first ran across
a few weeks ago. Still not acknowledged by KUCO in skedgrid nor in
alfabetical program list. I search it out, to much more info and
access to episodes:
https://www.interlochenpublicradio.org/gameplay
https://exchange.prx.org/series/39230-gameplay
This was once on the KUCO sked during an evening waking hour before
the massive programming shuffle a few months ago. Still undiscovered,
what other secret program occupy the previous hour, Sat 3-4 am CST =
09-10 UT.

Another recent unexpected change. Lane Whitesell`s post-Met unnamed
vocal fill-music show has been reduced by an hour, ending Sat at 4 pm
= 22 UT, with 22-23 UT now occupied by `Footlight Parade` an hour
earlier than before with 23-24 UT now containing `Dinner and a Movie`,
more cinemusic which I hear for the first time today, but whence? On
Feb 10, Met was shorter than usual ending at 1950 UT after love-duets
for Valentine`s Day, so Lane still had plenty of time to fill.

Another2 change I had not noticed before but does show on sked:
`Classical Guitar Alive` Saturday at 14-15 UT = 8-9 am CT, while
`Performance Oklahoma` replay has shifted an hour later to 9-11 am CT
= 15-17 UT; axually usually more like a sesquihour, but allows for
variable lengths. Original airing is at 7 pm CT Thursdays = 01 UT
Fridays. I would like to think that the latening results from a
request I made months ago that 8 am was too early on a weekend.

Since Kimberly Powell resigned a year ago, the new host has been
relying more on recordings of UCO faculty members` own performances,
rather than live events - that`s OK if there aren`t enough for a new
liver every week. I find his announcing style annoyingly stilted,
sorry; and he also needs some foreign language study.

Note that despite its huge roster of programs, publicradiofan.com
still has NO listings for `Gameplay`, `Reel Music`, nor `Dinner and a
Movie`! Searching on the last title leads to loads of hits, all about
a cooking TV show on TBS, revived last year, surely something else!
Adding radio to the search gets it: out of KCME Colorado Springs:
https://exchange.prx.org/series/34434-dinner-and-a-movie
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. I sent this to Matt Rogers, host of `Reel
Music`, i.e. cinematic, which is on KUCO 90.1 Fridays at 2 pm and
Saturdays at 11 am CT = Thu 20 & Sat 17 UT:

``Enough snackbar --- Matt, Thanks for Reel Music, which I always
listen to on KUCO, sometimes twice. While the vintage snackbar
announcements were cute the first time, may I please ask you to phase
them out? We listen to public radio to avoid hard-sell commercials!
While these are all in fun, they do clash severely with the rest of
the program. Why not have a contemporary hi-fi, soft-sell, perhaps
female, voice record exactly the same texts and run those for a while?
Regards, (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK``, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960.005, Feb 10 at 2303, VOT English not off the air,
S9+25/35 into UTwente. Final news item is about Turkish activity in
Antarctica on Dismal Island - or Disney? sounds like, and Horseshoe
Island; just as I am hearing LRA36 on another remote. 2310 into `The
Energy Agenda`, 2318 music. Too much else going on this hour to listen
continuously. 2349 more nice music. 2354 quick s/off as if the 1330 on
13635; 2254.5 IS got about an icosasecond before chopoff, no finesse,
uncovering XJRTV in Chinese, std denunciations (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. Pre- `AAAWWW` WBCQ chex into NH SDR, Feb 10 at 0046: 3265
OFF. 5130.273 ATATT. 6150.933 TOMBS. 7489.951 FKB. 9330.000v WLCR.
0100 start of show monitored on 5130+ which is not quite ATATT. New ep
since he refers to Tuck`s Putin interview. Always fiddling with
Angela`s mike at start. Talking about his antique autos. Spotchex
later, politix, etc. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9475, Feb 10 at 1937, George McClintock calls for a
radiocheck as he has this WTWW frequency running. It`s rather weak and
fading here, maybe S6 before shutting off, while neighbor 9980 WWCR is
inblasting, S9+30. Says running about 40 kW on 9475, maybe less
favorable antenna than WWCR. Also says waiting on one part to get #1
transmitter going again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
