** U S A. (101.1), Feb 14 at 1708 UT, I`m listening online to KSFR Santa Fe NM, as usual during Friday `Jazz Et Cetera` show, ``Fridays 9:00 am - Noon Hosted by Helga Ancona - Every Friday morning dj Helga Ancona brings you music from all over the world, including jazz, classical and an hour of Brazilian music`` which is always at 18-19 UT. Helga mentions that KSFR is now heard on 91.3 in northern NM, via KSQR. History page shows it:
https://www.ksfr.org/ksfr-history ``2/15/2025 KSFR adds a repeater in Questa, NM and KSFR programming is now also broadcast on KSQR, Questa, 91.3 MHz``
WTFDA FMDB already has it with 3.0 kW H&V, minus 99m HAAT, no further details. FCC LCMS shows 2.2 kW ERP, elevation 2396 meters.
Questa is site of an ex-molybdenum mine; ``The name is derived from the Greek 'molybdos' meaning lead`` which became a Superfund site. https://cumulis.epa.gov/supercpad/cursites/csitinfo.cfm?id=0600806 A cousin of mine once worked at that mine. We`ve driven by it on Hwy 38 west of Red River, part of the Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enchanted_Circle_Scenic_Byway It supposedly takes 8 hours to drive there from Enid.
In English it`s pronounced KWES-tuh, but I wonder how they handle it in Spanish, or respell Cuesta? Answer: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Questa,_New_Mexico ``Questa was originally named San Antonio del Rio Colorado. In 1883, a U.S. postmaster changed its name to Questa.[4] The postmaster misspelled the name, as it should have been spelled "Cuesta," which is Spanish for "ridge" or "slope." Despite the error, the village has kept the name`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** VANUATU. 9960, Feb 14 at 0656, RV is S6/S8 direct in Bislama with one keyword copied, ``b`long``, the genitive indicator. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bislama At 0659 recheck, 7260 instead, with USB tuning, S9+10/15 on meter, but axually less copiable since that includes a lot more noise. In AM mode tuning, S7/S9 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Friday, February 14 2025
** CUBA [and non]. 6000, UT Thu Feb 13, checking RHC for mailbag show in English which used to be approx. 0030, 0230, 0430, 0630 UT Thursdays. 6000 had been running in English again lately, but not tonight: into Maryland SDR: at 0026 dead air at S8/9, still 0046. By 0053 there is some low modulation. At 0054 this turns out to be TRT, including VOT IS, runup to their 0100 Turkish broadcast. Same situation past 0130. At 0300 direct, still S9+40/50 of dead air. By 0430, RHC carrier is off (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2282)
** OKLAHOMA. 95.1, Feb 13 circa 2230 UT, the dead air in stereo on this frequency, has come alive again, with rock music sounding mono, no announcements heard. An LPFM on same frequency still pending with a CP, but I don`t think this is it (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** SPAIN. ** SWEDEN [non]. 9670, Feb 13 at 1518, SDXF special for World Radio Day, via Channel 292, GERMANY: sufficient into UTwente, except for heavy ACI from China 9675. Can`t get rid of it all by LSB tuning and narrow bandwidth. Mainly in Swedish, mentioning US stations, programs, WWCR, VORW, WRMI; DARC. 1521 discussion about KROQ 106.7 in California - apparently someone there speaks Swedish. In second semihour, includes Jonathan Marx in English about how he was converting DX Jukebox into Media Network. 1558 brief SDXF outro in English, IS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 9960, Feb 13 at 0655, RV, S3/S4 in talk presumably Bislama before QSY-time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. 810.61, mystery carrier search, UT Feb 13, checking direct once or twice an hour starting at 0300, nothing until finally at 0658, measured as above slightly higher than previously. Then from 0700 I start hunting for it via various remotes, starting with Canary Islands - nothing. Nothing across SE USA, FL, GA, SC, AL, TN. I have suspected it`s really coming from the opposite direxion, so try remotes in NM, CO, ND - nothing, until: Corinne #1, northern Utah! Of course the main 810 signal in the West is KSFO ex-KGO. This shows 30 Hz above 810.600, i.e. 810.63. Keep checking other remotes including WA until 0730 but not found anywhere else and by then it`s no longer heard direct. May have gone off again much earlier.
Greg Hardison reports at 0809 UT: ``Glenn: — I did hear that 810+ anomaly on the Allenspark, CO SDR, but couldn't pull any audio peculiar to it. Wanted to check it on Kimball, NE, but it's offline tonight. Could it be Sturgis?? The other G H`` - that would be KBHB, Sturgis SD, U1 25000/60 watts. My previous bearing approx. 280 degrees would have to be wrong. Or course that`s more toward KSFO, which sounds normal on 810.00. It would have to be putting out a spur additionally on the plus side, but I doubt that. Due to KSFO dominance, there are not many 810s in western USA: only CO, NM, SD, WA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2282)

Glenn Hauser logs February 12, 2025 |

Thursday, February 13 2025
** CUBA [and non]. 870, Feb 12 at 0734 UT, wobbler vs very little signal from WWL, which if at full 50 kW blast would easily overcome it, like WHO can on 1040 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** MEXICO. 970, Feb 12 at 0736 UT, break in Mexmx at tune-in, ``Usted y La Jota Mejicana, 9-70``, i.e. XEJ, Ciudad Juárez. The usual one on 970 rather that flagship of R. Fórmula, XERFR CDMX which is twice as far. Note to editors: please do not ``correct`` my spelling. Mexico with a J is an alternative, and certainly fits with branding of this station (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Feb 12 at 2257, into Maryland SDR: 12030 off, 9690 S9+15/25, 17715 S5/S7, 17755 inaudible; 2300 token English from SNR, preview topic to be about World Radio Day = Feb 13, the 1946 date when UN Radio began. Interview about that starts after the news at 2305. With Javier Sánchez, Spain`s rep to World DAB+ organisation. Radio survived the advent of color TV, new challenges now, how can it remain relevant? Radios are hard to find in new cars, but they do have screens. FM doesn`t cut it, nor plain DAB. Now DAB+ provides stuff to see on screens, like artists and song titles, emergency info. (Strangely, no interest in USA for DAB/+ and guess what, RDS on plain old FM can also provide text info.)
Unfortunately, at 2313, DOUBLE AUDIO starts, equal level about 3 words apart!!! I`m still listening via Maryland SDR, its fault? NO! Same thing direct, and on 17715. Tuneout, unlistenable! Something`s messed up in Madrid, or nonsensical at Noblejas. Spot check at 2320, still so; and at 2325 when the separation seems more than three words, but back to single audio in wrapup after interview. What am embarrassment for them. I wonder how the podcast will sound/resound (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 407 MCW kHz, Feb 12 at 0729 UT, no signal from HRU, ND beacon which used to be regular, day and night; had not been hearing it for a few weeks, off? 25 watts at HeRington KS; RNA list says last logged: 2024-12-29. Distance: 266 km = 165 stmi (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2281 monitoring: ``From: Richard Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees. WRMI, USA, World of Radio #2281, 9395 kHz, below S7 signal, changeable reception, 0030, 0042, 0059, (45343), February 12 UTC 2025 [Wed] (Lemke, Richard -AB)``
Confirmed UT Wednesday February 12 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9+20/30 into Georgia SDR.
Also confirmed UT Wednesday February 12 from 0031 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.003+, S8/S9 into UTwente.
Also confirmed Wednesday February 12 at 2031 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.002+, S7/S9 into UTwente.
Also confirmed Wednesday February 12 at 2200 on WBCQ, 7490 -74 Hz = 7489.926, S7/9+5 into Maryland SDR. Next:
2030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975; 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
Thanks this week to Mike Gorniak, NM7X, Minnesota, for a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com, and says, ``Happy New Year and Thanks, Glenn! 73, Mike Gorniak``
One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. Unheard on Feb 11, nor earlier on UT Feb 12, but by 0708 I have mystery carrier weakly about 810.56. This time I try to DF it with the D808, and get roughly 100/280 degrees, i.e. slightly clockwise from E/W - that would eliminate Latin America, Bahamas, but inside US or possibly West Africa, SW Pacific. Did anyone else get a bearing on it?
Someone suggested it could be Tokyo, but that would be pretty far off my DF. And at 17 UT, Tokyo SDR has FEN right on frequency. In next few minutes I check several SDRs in SC, GA, AL, MS and TN, and if any signal on 810, none way off. My initial log of this at 0440 UT Feb 10, would be too early for anything from E Asia or Pacific. This not necessarily would have to come from any known 810 station (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

** ARGENTINA. 28480 USB, Feb 11 at 2320, LW2DHD calling CQDX after working several US stations. For him H = Honolulu. Did they run out of LU-calls? Watch out, Luxembourg! [WOR] R. Voz Missionária back on 9665 kHz --- Following reports that Radio Voz Missionária has been absent from 9665 kHz & 5940 kHz for a few weeks (heard only on 11750 kHz) I happened upon them tonight on 9665 kHz, which appears reactivated. Still no signal on 5940 kHz. Listening direct in Central Florida on a Tecsun PL-880 receiver, long wire antenna - fair to good reception. 9665 Voz Missionária, back on the air -- Hello Glenn, 9665 kHz Voz Missionária, Camboriu SC, Brazil, is back on the air. Rudolf Grimm`` at 1322 UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn, The 'beepery' you heard was the 'shortwave radiogram' data from my show Pop Shop Radio. WRMI is offering my show for an indeterminate amount of time at 0400 UT on 9395 Monday.
