Glenn Hauser logs March 19-20, 2024  View Printable Version
Thursday, March 21 2024

Logs
** ARGENTINA [non]. 9955, Tue March 19 at 2350, WRMI-3 with continuous
RAE multilingual IDs: default wasteful filler instead of RAE
Portuguese on sked as M-F 23-24; like also happens at 1430-1500
``French`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 258 MCW kHz, March 19 at 0659 UT, ZSJ, 1000 watt NDB at
Sandy Lake ON, JBA vs line noise level (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. VE1VDM/B beacon: see USA [and non]

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1120 kHz, March 19 at 2351 UT, KMOX in English
dominating; as in previous report, KETU Catoosa/Tulsa in Spanish was
back on air less than a sesquihour earlier at 2227 check. FCC shows
official March SS/SR times for KETU are 0030/1230 UT, so should be on
until 0030, but with Critical Hours power reduced from 10 to 7 kW
starting at 2230. April: 0100/1145 UT. Real sunset UT March 20 at
Enid: 0043; Vernal Equinox was at 0307 UT March 20 (Glenn Hauser, Enid
OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11935, March 19 at 2351, Riyadh roaring S6/S8 direct.
0040 March 20, still S9+5 into Maryland SDR, and still audible into
Kuwait, Qatar and Kenya SDRs; 0245 next check, gone from all of them.
Next check 1958 March 20, on again, S9+20 into UTwente. Vatican may
pray it will have QSYed again by Rosary Sunday March 24 at 1940.
Chopped off at 2021* as I still have UTwente in background. Back on by
2056 check into Maryland SDR; at 2208, S9/+10 direct (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, continued from last report, VOT English: altho s/on
2300 as if the 1330 broadcast only, March 19 at 2352 s/off with
all-wrong full English sked of local times called UTC; 2354 IS, 2356
restart IS with German IDs; 0000 March 20 timesignal 2 seconds late as
heard direct, S/on extraneous German. Off by next check 0020.
Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960.005, March 20 at 2257, VOT not off the air, IS & IDs
in English, S9+30/40 into UTwente, 2300 s/on for the 1330 on 13635
only, news. Abruptly dumps off air at 2307.5*; back on *2309.3 but
only a few sex dead air, off again. XJRTV understation CCCCCCI not on
yet. *2310.7 TRT back on and stays, now 5960.002, so could it be a
different unit? 2311 badax with a talk about yogurt, could not
understand title of the segment. 2320 `Middle East and Turkey` on
multi-national corps. 2326.7 `Sports Panorama` about stupid ballgames.
2333.6 multi-lingual ID filler reel. 2336 very lively song - we wonder
what they are about but they never tell us. Adds to the mystique? Then
another song, and more and more, nothing but songs until 2353 s/off
for the 1330 only, 2354 IS, now with XJRTV underaudible. 2356 pause
and restart IS with German IDs. Off 2357.5* uncovering XJRTV, std
denunciations (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 245 MCW kHz, March 20 at 0657 UT, FS, 400 watt NDB at Falls,
Sioux, SD. JBA vs line noise level, and so is this:
326 MCW kHz, March 20 at 0707 UT, MA, 400 watt NDB at MidlAnd TX
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also CANADA

** U S A. 13563+, March 20 at 2221, JBA dash and PCO, HIFER beacon in
Pine, ColoradO, I`ve heard before. But has been many weeks since I`ve
logged anything on this ISM band, not even K6FRC, despite scansthru at
least once a day at variable hours (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. Reply to my inquiry where to find 10m ham beacon
info, no longer WI5V: ``Hi Glenn! WI5V is no longer the IARU Region 2
Beacon Coordinator and I understand that his beacon website is no
longer being updated, so perhaps he has taken the site down. I can
hear WI5V’s beacon on 28256 nearly every day, so it’s still
operating.

The new Region 2 Coordinator is Jerry Moyer, AC5JM, who also has a
beacon easily heard on 28258.5. You can access a list of active and
inactive Region 2 beacons that is updated daily from the website at
https://www.iaru-r2.org/en/on-the-air/beacon-network/
or directly from
https://storage.iaru-r2.org/index.php/s/mDCqpdaf8AXt3An
The list may then be downloaded as an Excel file and sorted. Another
list with worldwide coverage that is updated daily that you might find
helpful can be found at
http://www.dl8wx.de/bake_kw.htm
As I’ve mentioned before, there are about four or five of us who
contribute our 10-meter beacon logs semi-regularly to
ndblist@groups.io which are then used to update

28174 CW, March 19 at 2202, VVV DE VE1VDM/B - listed as Truro, NS, or

28230+ CW, March 19 at 2210, EEEEEEEE NG7I/B - listed 28230.8, 5 watts
from Ritzville, WA. QRZ.com: ``NG7I USA flag USA, PATRICK C PADGETT,

Send me a QSL and I'll send you one back. No need for an SASE or
anything like that. Here's the QSL card for the beacon:`` [cheesecake,
leggy lady on roofedge next to antenna] (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2234 monitoring: ``From: Richard
Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening
Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees,
Dear Glenn: update, confirming WOR #2234, WRMI:
5850, 0130, (55433), confirmed 0159, March 16 UTC 2024 [Sat]
9955, 0000, confirmed hissing sound, 0029, March 17 UTC 2024 [Sun]
9395, below S7 signal, 2357 (45433), hissing sound, 2359, March 19
[Tue]
(Lemke, Richard -AB)``

Confirmed Tuesday March 19 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S9+10/20 into
Missouri SDR.

Confirmed Wednesday March 19 at 1410 on WRMI 9955, S7/S9 direct and
noisy; however, was NOT on air at first check 1400, while 9395 & 9455
were OK.

Also confirmed Wednesday March 19 at 2030.5 on SW Radio, Germany,
3975.002, S9/+5 into UTwente, following ADDX in German. I wish they
would not allow the closing theme of that to overlap start of WOR.

Also confirmed Wednesday March 19 at 2100 on WBCQ 7489.949, S8/S9 into
Maryland SDR. Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975

As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated, by MO or
check in US funds on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK
73702.

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to:
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 26425 USB, March 20 at 2210, 2-way in Russian? Mentioned
``dvatset`` a few times, but also ``polski`` -- Slavic, anyway, one
side S9+10/20 stronger than the other. Surely not from Europe now.

26555 LSB, March 20 at 2214, multi-way pileup/talkovers, partly in
Spanish. Lots more freebanders above 26.6, and on both sides of the
legal CB; yet relatively little activity on the 10m beacon band above
28.15 MHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs March 19, 2024  View Printable Version
Wednesday, March 20 2024

Logs
** CUBA. 15230, March 19 at 2218, S7/S9 of dead air direct, or
possibly JBM inaudible vs my noise level. Something`s always wrong at
RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GERMANY [non]. FRANCE, 9830.065 approx., March 19 at 0654, S6/S9 in
African language: have noticed this skewer for some time, so finally
logged and looked up: DW Hausa via ISSoudun, where offfrequenciness is
rampant, 0630-0700 per EiBi. Two later DW Hausas on 9830 at 13-14 &
18-19 UT are via SAO TOME, so likely different offset if not .000 --
March 19 at 1821, UTwente shows 9829.998 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1120, March 19 at 2227 UT, I notice on the DX-398 that
KETU Catoosa/Tulsa is back on air after absence a few days, partial ID
in passing in Spanish as ``La Diferente`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ROMANIA. 9485-9490-9495, March 19 at 2214, DRM noise S9 direct.
First guess France test, but RRI Spanish hour is registered with HFCC
as D = NOT DRM, from Tsiganeshti (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11935, March 19 at 0218, no signal direct from the
roarer, probably off after still having been on at 0028. Next check
0530 into UTwente, still nothing. Nor at 0649 direct. But finally at
1559 into UTwente, it`s back! S9+10. Also at 1820, 1901 chex. Vatican
11935 1630-1730 & 1940-2000 CIRAF targets per HFCC are Egypt, Turkey,
Yemen at 130 degrees, the last one in Latin daily. So I check remotes
in Kenya, Qatar and Kuwait at 1940: Kuwait is only 534 km = 332 stmi
from Riyadh so might be in skip zone? But strong roar only at all
three. Guess what, per WRTH, Latin at 1940-2000 is NOT daily but as
you might expect, Rosary on Sundays only, and this is Tuesday. 11935
further monitoring March 19: 2213 still roaring S9 direct. 2258 into
UTwente still S9+ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.005, March 19 at 2259, VOT not off the air,
IS, S9+30/40 into UTwente, 2300 s/on as if the 1330 broadcast only,
and news. 2312 `Review of the Turkish Press` until only 2314 music,
and by now there is JBA undercurrent of XJRTV, EAST TURKISTAN (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2234 monitoring: confirmed UT
Tuesday March 19 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, S9/+10 into Durango2 SDR.

Also confirmed Tuesday March 19 at 1321 the 1300 on WRMI 9955, S8/S9
direct, no jamming audible. Next:

2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1200 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB
1230 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB
[previous #2233][SW suspended but still streamed?]
1400 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [also web-, phonecast; jammed?]
2030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975

As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated, by MO or
check in US funds on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK
73702.

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to:
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5950, UT Tue Mar 19 at 0659, WRMI, as Joe in southwest
Missouri is upwrapping `Your UFO Show`, no ToH ID and 0700 switch to
TOMBS. The only time on the `A24` skedgrid for UFO is UT Tue-Sat
0030-0100 on System L via 5950! While the xmtr sked atop for WRMI-8,
5950 claims System E starts TOMBS at 0600 UT Tue-Sat! Yet another
inconsistency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier check, March 19 at 0205:
only 855 with two carriers beating, likely Spains. Nothing on the
usual other spots 531/1044 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs March 17-18-19, 2024  View Printable Version
Tuesday, March 19 2024

Logs
** SAUDI ARABIA. 11935, March 18 at 1504, found it! S3/S6, the
horrible loud roarer, sounding just the same as on ex-11915 which
vanished a few days ago, ex-11820, ex-11860 where it was originally
and probably still is a failed attempt to carry Republic of Yemen
Radio. Still 11935 at 1658, S9+15 into UTwente -- but 1700 as heavy
QRM to VATICAN Radio in French as scheduled. If not allah, the RCC
god`ll get`em for that. 1836 check, again roar only, S9+10/15 UTwente.
2316 recheck *still* roaring, S8/S9 into UTwente. And *still2* at 0028
March 19: so on 24 hours??

Lots more victims as long as this stay on 11935. Aoki shows: VR at
1630-1730, 1940-2000; CNR5 China at 23-09. RFA Tibetan 12-13 & CNR
jamming; 11-12 Sunday R Joystick via Bulgaria. EiBi lax the last but
adds 1330-1630 R. Farda via Lampertheim = I heard nothing of that at
first tune-in. Next? Something`s always wrong at wRiyadh (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Mon Mar 18 at 2313, token English from SNR feature
today is interview about March 17 being Comic Book Day, in Spain, as
declared on July 11, 2022. Treated as if a serious subject! VG into
Maryland SDR as always.

AER has published an A24 sked showing 17885 repeatedly instead of
17855 as usual for NAm A-seasons, suspected typo/error. HFCC A24 still
shows 17855. AER shows the other three: 15360 Af, 15520 ME, 17715 SAm.
HFCC has no 15360 and includes several other alternatives (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.002, Sunday March 17 at 2337, late tune-in
to VOT, S9+25/40 into UTwente, not off the air, with `Letterbox` in
progress, acknowledging report from Malaysia of a Farsi broadcast,
``out of time``, ``May God bless all of us``, yet time for some music
2342-2347 before playing `Lbox` outro. 2353 s/off for the 1330
broadcast only, 2353.6 IS playing only a sesquitime and off,
uncovering XJRTV Chinese, which had been audible as an undercurrent.
Since I missed the first part of `Lbox` I`m listening for the final
repeat after 0400 UT Monday March 18 on 6125 also to N America:

6125.016, further offset than usual, as UTwente and Maryland SDR agree
on that exactly; S9/+10 into Maryland, much stronger S9+20/35 into
UTwente. 0400 UT Monday March 18, news misread by the badax until
0414, then an analysis or commentary. 0419 `Lbox` starts. Host says he
is feeling very sad since one of his best friends, she died of cancer
yesterday. Also remarx he has no idea which other announcers are doing
which programs as he only does Lbox and sometimes the news. First
letter from England, very tiny handwriting he has trouble reading, so
goes slowly, reading all the program details in the report, irrelevant
now, on and on until 0426; next from Alan Holder, Isle of Wight, who
says winter there has been awful, always raining. Wants VOT to resume
citing headlines at end of transmissions; 1330 broadcast on 13635
suffers from Chinese jammer on 13640 vs Sound of Hope. 0432 next from
Mr Ng, Guangzhou, China, report on a Russian broadcast which
admittedly he does not understand. It was posted Dec 2 and just
arrived 3+ months later: please use email instead? VOT in 37
languages. Only issues postal QSLs, no `flags` = pennants?, stickers
or other goodies as used to 7/8 years ago before host started at VOT.
Transmission failure, off air at 0442*, back on during music at *0447.
0453 s/off still for the 1330 only, IS a sesquitime before chopoff.
Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [non]. 5960, March 18 at 2303, no signal of VOT into
UTwente; *2307 Xinjiang RTV, EAST TURKISTAN chops on at variable
opening, remains alone. 9610, VOT not there either but presumed
Mongolian much weaker from CNR Beijing. 5960, still nothing but
Chinese at 2336. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 17680, back on weekday frequency Mon March 18, Ukrainian aim
of VOA/Martinoticias, but dumping off air and back on around 1851,
1856, 1857; many more breaks about once a minute around 1900-1910, VG
into UTwente when on. Something`s gone wrong at Grimesland. Maybe a
spare transmitter kept closed for good reason. Jerry Lenamon says
Greenville has some Cold-War-era rhombix and curtains at 45 degrees
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2234 monitoring: Also confirmed
Sunday March 17 at 2103 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1322.997 kHz, S9+10
into UTwente across Europe. I should have rechecked before 2129
whether it were intact this week. Also confirmed at 2109 during the
2100 WRN webcast for Europe.

Also confirmed Sunday March 17 at 2230.5 on SW Radio, Germany,
3975.002, S9+10 into UTwente across Europe.

Also confirmed UT Monday March 18 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S7/S8 into
offbeam Maryland SDR with continuous noise in background - not the
first-14-seconds blast. Better into Durango2 SDR, S9+10/15, not much
noise.

NOT confirmed UT Monday March 18 at 0300 on Area 51 via WBCQ,
6159.931, S7/S8 into Maryland SDR: instead continuous miscellaneous
music with no announcements until switch to TOMBS at 0400. What
happened, Larry?

squeal; likewise at 1518 on 9980. Not loud but noticeable. 12160 also
