Norddeutscher Rundfunk, Greetings on Board Christmas Eve  View Printable Version
Wednesday, December 18 2019

HCDX

Manuel Méndez
Lugo, Spain

Like last years, on December 24 Norddeutscher Rundfunk will broadcast
the program "Gruß an Bord", "Greetings on Board".
Here is the text from its website in German and at the bottom in English
(translated from Google) with times and frequencies:

https://www.ndr.de/nachrichten/info/sendungen/Gruss-an-Bord-So-empfangen-Sie-die-Sendung,grussanbord534.html

Fernglas hinaus aufs Meer. © dpa-Bildfunk Foto: Carsten Rehder

koordinierte Weltzeit, Universal Time Coordinated):

"Gruß an Bord" via KurzwelleFrequenz Zielgebiet
6.080 kHz Atlantik - Nord
11.650 kHz Atlantik - Süd
9.800 kHz Atlantik/Indischer Ozean (Süd Afrika)
9.740 kHz Indischer Ozean - West
9.570 kHz Indischer Ozean - Ost
6.030 kHz Europa

"Gruß an Bord" via KurzwelleFrequenz Zielgebiet
6.145 kHz Atlantik - Nord
9.830 kHz Atlantik - Süd
9.590 kHz Atlantik/Indischer Ozean (Süd Afrika)
9.740 kHz Indischer Ozean - West
9.675 kHz Indischer Ozean - Ost
6.155 kHz Europa

Musikeinspielungen."

"Greeting on board": How to receive the program

It has a long tradition and exudes a very special pre-Christmas mood: On
Christmas Eve, from 8.05 p.m. to 10 p.m. and from 11.15 p.m. to
midnight, greetings are sent to seafarers all over the world on NDR
Info. And this on a wide variety of channels and technical channels, so
that greetings and messages can also be guaranteed to be received on all
seven seas.

binoculars at the sea. © dpa-Bildfunk Photo: Carsten Rehder
The ship's crew have several options for receiving the "Greetings on
Board" program. The short wave is one of them.

You can find the livestreams of the program (8.05pm to 10pm and 11.15pm
to midnight CET) here: NDR Info and NDR Info Spezial. There is also the
option of listening to the program via the NDR radio app. NDR Info can
also be received via FM, DAB + and DVB-S radio, NDR Info Spezial only
via DAB + and DVB-S radio.

So that all crews on board - on the seas or in the ports - can receive
the traditional broadcast, NDR radio has also rented shortwave
frequencies:

In the period from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. UTC (8 p.m. to 10 p.m. CET), the
shortwave transmits via the following frequencies (UTC is the
abbreviation for coordinated universal time, Universal Time
Coordinated):

"Greetings on board" via shortwave frequency target area
6.080 kHz Atlantic - North
11,650 kHz Atlantic - south
9,800 kHz Atlantic / Indian Ocean (South Africa)
9,740 kHz Indian Ocean - West
9,570 kHz Indian Ocean - East
6.030 kHz Europe

From 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. UTC (10:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. CET), the
shortwave transmits via the following frequencies:

"Greetings on board" via shortwave frequency target area
6.145 kHz Atlantic - North
9.830 kHz Atlantic - South
9,590 kHz Atlantic / Indian Ocean (South Africa)
9,740 kHz Indian Ocean - West
9,675 kHz Indian Ocean - East
6.155 kHz Europe

NDR Info sends the "Greetings on board" from 8.05pm to 10pm CET. This is
followed by the transmission of the Christmas mass from the Church of
St. Maria Magdalena in Bochum-Wattenscheid from 10 p.m. to 11.15 p.m.
CET. You will then hear the second part of "Greetings on board" until
midnight CET.

As of late evening, you will find a recording of the program for
listening here - for legal reasons, however, without large parts of the
music recordings. "
