** HAWAII. 6501 USB, June 6 at 0631, USCG marine weather for Pacific
coördinates: NMO Honolulu sked at 0600-0635; per EiBi, timeshared with
Kodiak, Guam, Chesapeake; and VFF Iqaluit could use it any time; poor
reception (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SCOTLAND [non]. 1323 kHz, June 6 after 1900, Radio Six
International, 60th anniversary special. Villa Estense IRRS relay at
first inaccessible by busy Noale SDR full of ham and CB frequencies.
Also on 9670 but NG either into UTwente from Channel 292 due to heavy
splash from Indonesian on 9675 - EiBi shows as Sa`udi Arabia;
simultaneously Turkish: axually it doesn`t make sense for Indo at that
hour, but that`s what been heard instead of Turkish. Tony Currie
playing lots of familiar pop tunes back to the 60s, live
acknowledgements of emails including one from me at 1928 explaining
the QRM to 9670. By then I`m mainly listening to the NEXUS/IBA stream
with perfect `reception`. One song e.g. at 1933: `Downtown` by Pet
Clark. Happy anniversary (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, June 6 at 2200, VOT is not off the air today, S3/S8
direct in English; news first by YL without awful accent, good
modulation too, but still hard to copy due to fading and storm
crashes. And a 1-minute break in transmission at 2208*-*2209. 2212
`Review of the Turkish Press` about Indo/Pak relations; 2219
with-you-every-hour promo, music. 2219 `Weekly Commentary` by bad
accentedess when I quit (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28232+ CW, June 6 at 2158, beacon VVV DE W7SWL W7SWL TUCSON
AZ - then probably grid square uncopied. Sporadic E opening is JBA to
this MUF, the OSOB. Is this a real ham call? Yes per qrz.com:

``W7SWL USA flag USA, ROBERT J COOMLER, 7322 E Calle Los Arboles,
Tucson, AZ 85750, USA --- Former calls: WV6NLP (1960), N7DKD (1981),
KI6OT (1987), W6RJC (2000). The 10M beacon is back in operation after
a long rest. 5 watts into a 1/4 wave vertical. 28.2323 mHz. Any
reports (email or mail) would be appreciated. Thanks! Would be pleased
to exchange cards for QSOs or beacon reception. I'm old school, no
return postage is necessary.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. After no FMDX around 1800 UT June 5 despite
DXMAPS connecting OK to Alberta, I settle on 91.7 awaiting with bated
breath what will KOSU run at 1807 to replace WNYC-canceled `The
Takeaway`? `Fresh Air!` moved from 17 UT and on the sked `Here & Now`
at 16 has been expanded from one hour to two. Easy way out? I wish
they would revive `Talk of the Nation`, at least for `Science
Friday`!

As for `Takeaway`, after a sesquidecade, I missed the finale on Friday
June 2. I think I set an alarm for that but then couldn`t remember
why... Here it is linked; I just listened to it now:

https://www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/takeaway/segments/one-final-farewell
Somehow, a 52-minute show lasts 70+ minutes (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 102.7, June 4 at 2038 UT, `KJ-103` with good signal on
caradio at cemetery north of Enid instead of lately JBA if at all at
home before and afterwards. Something must be drawing KJYO there? Or
sporadically on full power? Or home is a dead zone, pardon the
expression, for it, but not the other OKC stations? (Glenn Hauser,
Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Monday June 5 at 2205, token English from SNR feature
today is interview with someone from Greenpeace about global warming /
climate change, as affecting Spain, VG direct (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, Sunday June 4 at 2226 check, VOT S9/+20 into
UTwente, instead of German yesterday, back into ``English`` if you can
call it that as uttered by the superaccented YL. 6165 at 0300 UT
Monday June 5, also recognizable English with heavy ACI from 6160-
WBCQ WOR. But 6165 is aimed thataway, //7275 intruding thisaway (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, Monday June 5 at 2210 check, no signal direct from
VOT; something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2193 monitoring: not confirmed
Sunday June 4 at 2000 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, rather last
week`s 2192 *again* like on Friday after which I immediately emailed
IRRS about the mistake and asking to be sure to play 2193 next times!
S9+12 anyway with some storm crashes into nearby Noale SDR.

Thus a reminder to those who don`t want to miss a WOR: pay attention
to the number and produxion date, and find the latest somewhere else.

2193 confirmed UT Monday June 5 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, JBA S4/S6 direct
with HSNL.

Also confirmed UT Monday June 5 from 0300 sharp on WBCQ Area 51, 6160
-67 Hz = 6159.933, S9/+10 into NH SDR with ACI from much weaker 6165
Turkey to ME. Next:

** U S A. (7490-), Sunday June 4 at 2221, WBCQ stream with ``Beep
beep`` song, soon 2229 Uncle Bill with more tunes on a caracing
Memorial Day Weekend theme. UB thinx his shows are on hiatus for at
least a month, but there he is at usual time. Maybe repeat of last
week`s `Melting Pot` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15770, UT Monday June 5 at 0628, WRMI S8/S9 ending R. Prague
International in English, 0630 starting R. Eslovaquia Internacional in
Espanish. In between at 0629 a new promo asking listeners to email
their location, to a gmail address pronounced twice but not
comprehended, not the usual info@wrmi.net - here it is, on disgraced
FB June 4, ALL CAPS:

``ATTENTION WRMI LISTENERS. WE’RE DOING A TEST FOR POTENTIAL SPONSORS
TO SHOW THEM JUST HOW MANY PEOPLE LISTEN TO SHORTWAVE RADIO. IF YOU
HEAR US, PLEASE SEND US AN EMAIL AND TELL US WHERE YOU ARE LISTENING
TO WRMI FROM. OUR EMAIL IS: WELOVESHORTWAVE@GMAIL.COM PLEASE EMAIL
YOUR LOCATION TO US AT WELOVESHORTWAVE@GMAIL.COM THANK YOU!``

Skedgrid for WRMI-9 15770 shows System H at 06-07. System H grid shows
RPI only on Mon & Tue, RSI daily; also daily at 05-06 still R. Ukraine
International? I don`t think so: fq grid shows SMTV // 9455.

Also on disgraced FB 5 days ago:
``Coming up on our new program Voices of Russia (in Russian):

June 3/4 - History of the Kaliningrad Radio Center No. 5 (on-air tests
2022 - 2023), the history of the radio receiver Speedol

June 10/11 - 1. History of Polish longwave broadcasting on 225 kHz
2. Czech private AM stations (792, 981, 1062 kHz)
3. Radio equipment of the USSR. Selga radio receiver.
4. In memory of radio host Andrey Barshev. He worked at Radio Mayak
and loved France very much...

Voices of Russia can be heard at 2130 UTC Saturday and at 0400 UTC
Sunday on 15770 kHz.``

I wonder who`s behind that? Nothing about it on the Programming page.
But well worth checking for others as yet unknown even in Angliyskiy:
http://wrmi.net/index.php/programming/
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Repeatedly on June 4, DXMAPs show sporadic E MUFs way up
past 108, even past 140 MHz, but e.g. at 2240 UT no sign of any FMDX
here, and none on the FMDX page either of DXMAPs - spurious or
erroneous reports? Or extremely limited timewise or geowise? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7260, June 5 at 0623, ``island music`` at S7/S9+10 direct
as R. Vanuatu continues its improved signal on a fundamental. Someone
guessed it must be more than listed 2.5 kW now. Axually, WRTH 2023
shows only 2 kW (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15230, June 4 at 0330, RHC with S9+10/20 of suptorted just
barely modulation in Spanish. EiBi shows 22-05 & 12-15 UT here.
Something`s always wrong at RHC.

0651 recheck, now algo music S3/S4, could be RHC overtime but probably
CRI Xi`an site overlapping sked 03-09 per EiBi, Commies vs Commies!
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1210 kHz, June 4 at 0345 UT, Fox Sports Network with good
signal, KGYN? Yes, NRC AM Log shows that`s one of many networx on
KGYN, far from fulltime sports. Why am I hearing it so well? Night
pattern with null toward Philadelphia, which is few degrees further
north than Enid; Wichita would be closer to the notch so I wonder how
reception be there. I have long suspected KGYN of not going direxional
at night from its 3 inline towers east of Guymon aside US 412, about
290 km = 180 statute miles from me. KGYN has been licened as 10/10 kW,
DA-night only. I can also hear it barely in daytime. Has CP to
increase day power to 22 kW, no change in antenna patterns. Have not
noticed any daytime improvement. NRC DX News May 23 had a typo leading
us to believe the night power would be only 1000 watts instead of
still 10000:

``CPs built, approaching final licensing (and probably being used on
the air): 1210 KGYN OK Guymon – Applies for license to cover CP with
U2 22000/1000 [sic], existing site.`` to which I replied at the
time:

``(was U2 10000/10000! So we should get it better in daytime, everyone
get it less nighttime. There was once years ago a plan, CP? to move
this to OKC market, up to 50 kW; long abandoned? -- gh}`` (Glenn
Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. June 4 at 1855 UT, DXMAPS shows some sporadic E spixe
above 140 MHz in eastern USA - must be 2m ham contacts, so I rush to
the garaged caradio to tune for FMDX. 96.5, tuned in seconds too late
at 1859 for ID, just heard ``96 punto 5`` in Spanish. Likely Orlando
which no doubt I had a few day ago; but suspiciously no sign of any
other Es tuning up the band from 88.7.

After first tune at 1903: ``Ésta es KRXO, Éxitos 96.5, Oklahoma City,
Oclajoma --- Tyler Media`` --- never heard that before, must be a new
translator and I notice that other OKC sigs are enhanced, but still no
102.7. At 1904 CCI from an MS burst.

KRXO-FM of course is really the call of the silly sportstalk fullpower
station on 107.7 but WTFDA FM DB shows it does have HD. So what`s on
96.5?
K243BJ relays:KRXO-FM 107.7 H 96.5 OKLAHOMA CITY OK Spanish OLDIES
EXITOS 96.5 0.25 302.0 35-24-54 97-30-32 3F48 Exitos 96.5 FM! Foreign
Language --- the H between frequencies presumably supposed to read HD1
or HD2. So OrlandOÉXitos has some competition! (Glenn Hauser, Enid,
WOR)

** TURKEY. Re VOT running an hour ahead with German at 22 UT June 3 on
11785.006: Timeanddate.com says: ``Turkey currently observes Turkey
Time (TRT) all year [UTC +3]. DST is no longer in use. Clocks do not
change in Ankara, Turkey. The previous DST change in Ankara, Turkey
was on September 8, 2016`` -- what will happen at 0300 on 6165, 7275 -
Malay instead of English? Oops, by then I forget to check. Try again
June 4 at 2200, 5 at 0300! And if there be no DST in Turkey, why do
they always make 1-hour timeshifts between A and B seasons, no matter
where the target, local DST or not? Out of habit since 2016y? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2193 monitoring: confirmed Saturday
June 3 at 2233 the 2230:30 on WRMIs: to UTwente: 15770 S9/+10, 7730
zero, 5850 occupied by roar I also had into NE USA SDR. To Maryland
SDR: 15770 VG S9+10, 7730 & 5850 JBA. To Atlanta SDR: no good. To
Athens GA SDR: 15770 JBA=too close, 7730 S8/S9 noisy, 5850 S9+5.

Also confirmed UT Sunday June 4 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S7/9+10 with
storm crashes into Louisiana SDR, and as always starting with
overpowering external noise blast for first 14 seconds, which could be
evaded if WRMI would start playback 15 or 30 seconds later.

Also confirmed UT Sunday June 4 starting at 0329 the 0315v on WA0RCR,
1860 AM, MO, S9+15 but with storm noise into nearby SDR.

Missed checking the newish Sunday 1330 June 4 on WRMI 9955; did anyone
hear it? [no one ever answers this question]. Next:

** U S A. 1539.903, June 4 from 0338 UT, big het here against 1540.0
stations, unlike anywhere else on the entire MWBC band scanned. I bet
it`s KGBC Galveston TX which has a long history of such
offfrequenciness. However I had not noticed that for quite a while.
Broadly speaking, it was pervasive in 2020y but not much if any in
2021y & 2022y, when WKVQ Eatonton GA was always even further on the
plus side to 1520.21, but not any more.

The latest log I can find searching in NRC DX News is from early 2023:
``1539.90 KGBC TX Galveston – 1/14 0801 [EST = 1301 UT] – Prayer in
Spanish, then legal ID at 0801:30: “This is KGBC Galveston-Houston
1540 AM and K269GS Pasadena 101.7 FM,” followed by soft music. Fair
signal and nicely separable on LSB. Frequency is approximate. (JW
[John Wilkins, Wheatridge]-CO)``

At 0357 I rotate the altazimuth wrist-mounted DX-398 to get a bearing
on it: SSE/NNW, and there is separate Mexmx on 1540 from SSW/NNE -
that would be KEDA San Antonio. SSE peak fits for Galveston.

The closer Texmex, KZMP in The Metroplex seems no longer a factor. NRC
DX News just reported May 23: ``1540 KZMP TX University Park – Granted
STA, U1 100/100, TIS antenna at 32-50-51/96-48-40.`` {was U4
32000/750! -- gh}

Preacher keeps talking thru hourop 0400 with no ID heard. 0402 into
praise song in Spanish. 0407 Radio Gracia ID for 1320! kHz, and bank
account number for contributions: how brazen. Now it`s S9+10 as I
measure the het by comparing pitch tuned in AM vs tuned in SSB. The
pitch pulses slightly as if wobbling but that could be caused by
another station it is beating against.

I search out a webcast link also with info about it at:
https://onlineradiobox.com/us/gracia/

``Radio Gracia 1320 AM spanish christian contemporary
Rating: 3.7 Reviews: 3
Radio Gracia Houston "CHRISTIAN CONTEMPORARY MUSIC" Evangelizing
nations. 24/7 from Houston, Texas United States to the world, we were
one of the first pioneers in Hispanic middle secular [? sics:] since
1988 and 1993, starting in the Spanish average Christian to date, been
to different radio stations, TV support, working for the Kingdom of
our God but from since March 2011 God put in our hearts and be founded
and nationally:`` and linx to own website:
https://www.radiogracia.com/

There the only frequency shown is 95.3 FM! WTFDA FM DB shows that is:
``KZLD-LP 95.3 HOUSTON TX SPANISH RELIGIOUS RADIO GRACIA 0.057 kW ERP
40.0m HAAT both horizontal only 29-53-00 95-13-25 SANACION DE
FAMILIA``

It so happens that there is a KiwiSDR right in Galveston. It`s getting
the same signal at local strength on 1540 at -97 Hz steady offset and
that seems to be accurately calibrated compared to nearby
on-frequencies and weak WWV 2500. I also try the Maurice LA SDR which
gets a JBA signal also -97 Hz from 1540.

MWOffsets has an entry only for KGBC among the 1540 Texans:
1539.9074 with a range to .903 as of 2020-03-06. Check!

By 0407 it switches to a different identity ``La Abuela``, as in
grandmother -- what a strange name for a station. Says that
repeatedly. Searching on that is unproductive but there are lots of
Abuela restaurants or Abuelitas. This really seemed like a station
slogan rather than a commercial. At 0440 talking about a Houston
rodeo. 0452, back to ``Radio Gracia`` and its bank acct. The stream
and KiwiSDR are definitely //.

I also check 1320 on the Galv SDR: no signal from KXYZ Houston. Must
be in a deep null if really on air --- No, radio-locator.com night map
shows a peak toward Galv drawn by the Gulf! Assume 1320 be
ex-frequency of Gracia as KXYZ is now listed with BIN in English!

FCC shows a CP for change in KGBC parameters is in effect: 3600/185
watts with one lobe to the NNW which is good for Houston; and Enid.
But is it really on night power now? This also in radio-locator.com
which shows no slogan, but format as Tejano; and address in Houston
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Saturday June 3 at 1844, LRA36 is
already on with good S9+10 peaks into Argentine SDR; usual
conversation and by 1910 some songs. Nominal sked is now 18-21 UT;
Manuel Méndez, Spain, was hearing it direct from 1801. So good into
Arg that it`s worth checking for at least a trace to here: nope, at
1921. And the signal has just weakened into Arg. At 1925 surges back
up so a transmitter or receiver issue, not propagation. But Magic
Flute from The Met is much easier on the ears. Still going at 2041,
weaker, and 2057 but not at 2204 check (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** FINLAND. 11690, Sat June 3 at 0635, no signal audible direct, but
at 0645 a JBA carrier, presumably Scandinavian Weekend Radio during
its almost-monthly first-Saturday broadcast, which is supposed to be
24h on 11690 & 6170 only. Of course now it`s too late into the dayside
for 6170 to get out.

Walt Salmaniw, BC was getting it earlier, so I replied, ``note my
report of DRM on 11690 last night, NZ? Glenn``

Walt replies, ``Nothing that looks like a DRM signal here, Glenn,
tonight. The carrier is quite wobbly, as well, measuring 11689.939 at
the moment, as seen by this screenshot:
Screenshot 2023-06-03 050321_SWR 11690.jpg
Closest DRM signal visible is Romania on 11740, scheduled in French,
and noted at 05:13 UTC, as I type this. 73, Walt``

His shot does show a brief bump slightly upward from that frequency.
The JBA carrier I had did not seem to be so far off, but I should have
tried to measure it as a clincher. Nothing else is listed on 11690 at
this time nor during most of the day; on until 2100 (Glenn Hauser, OK,

** NIGERIA. 7255-, June 3 at 0656, VON at S7/9+10 with some

** TURKEY. 11785.006, Sat June 3 at 2205, VOT is not off the air

2300, and occasionally heard on 11785 after that hour when failed to
turn off in time. Maybe Turkey have added an hour of DST advancing the
clox? Or something`s totally awry at Ankara, hence erroneous at
Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 15520, Fri June 2 at 2156, surprised to hear REE with

scheduled only at 1630-1700 M-F, with Spanish at this time per EiBi, and
presumably // 11670 on E Hemisphere channels before joining the West for
English on all from 2200.

Now I switch to 17855, VG direct. News starts about the convoluted
multi-party political situation. A minor elexion on Sunday provoked
the major elexion to be moved up to July 23. This time after 2206,

** U S A. About WBCQ Radio Angela, Uncle Bill responds on the WOR iog:
``secret Swiss``?

``Thank you for listening. The beginning of the Volksmusik segment was
indeed songs I had originally heard during SBC's language change
intervals back in the 70s. Since they never named the artists or tunes
during those it took me decades to find some of the albums, and I
decided to imitate them and just let the music speak this trip.

An old jazz standard includes the line "Romance without finance don't
make no sense......" and that's more or less where things stand now.
I'm not going to speak for all the other programmers, but I personally
am a child of radio, and anything I would ever do in the future would
have a real radio component of some kind even if it also streamed.``

``I think the modern tendency for humans to assume things without
actually looking is part of what hindered us with possible financial
support. In spite of the the fact that Radio Angela went to great
lengths to avoid religious and political fare - if anything our
overall program grid was a true voice of human unity, not division -
many potential donors just couldn't shake the stereotype of private
shortwave stations out of their brains no matter how hard we tried to
explain our mission, which was to be something quite different. This
is rather sad, because in real life, the only way to change things is
to be the change.

I do have the comfort of being able to go to bed at night without
wondering "what if I had tried this?", and if some of the new voices
we brought onto the air are able to make a go of things another way,
this will not have been in vain.``

More from Uncle Bill:
``I would like to say one thing about Angela Weiner specifically - love
or hate her personal political pronouncements, Radio Angela was named
after her because she was a crucial part of our support while we were
on the air. It might not be easy for some people to get their heads
around the fact that she supported world music, but there you have
it. Most people are more complex than their cartoon caricatures, a
fact that gets increasingly lost in a world of algorithms designed to
accentuate our more primitive drives.`` (via gh, WOR)

** U S A. (7490-), UT Sat June 3 from 0000, WBCQ webcast starts with
announcement by non-Angela YL that the following program originally
aired on Feb. 24, 2023! Never heard them do that before. So never
mind. Has AW twitted anything about this or the demise of R. Angela?

** U S A [and non]. Another sporadic-E FM DX opening, Wednesday May 31
at 1521-1625 UT, from Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and Ontario. It`s
taken me a couple days to get this compiled and researched as
Thursdays are busy WOR produxion day. Es FM DX: gotta take it whenever
it decides to happen! In the not yet hot garage, on the Nissan Sentra
2004 stock caradio with fender vertical antenna only; all logs in real
time with my own ears, no RDS capability, no recording, no internet
for stream comparisons; but research later from my scribbled notes,
mainly the WTFDA FM Database, also in general searching if needed. All
times strictly UT! Numbers just before geo coordinates are kW ERP and
antenna height above average terrain in meters. Identical horiz and
vert figures, u.o.s. Last figures are distances in km/stmi
city-to-city so approx., not site-to-city, from distancefromto.net.
Showing distance does not necessarily make a log more definite, but
FYI. I do not count stations, states or anything, what`s `new` or not,
and am not in a competition. Each DX log I view as a potential
learning experience. Clarifications, correxions welcome.

Canadian logs are included in original time order below, and also
duplicated at separate entry under CANADA.

Unlike the FL opening yesterday, many frequencies are 2 or 3 stations
deep vying for captures; many with confusing fringe-area groundwave
signals fading in and out like ionospheric. I include some of those
for completeness or to reconfirm identities.
