Glenn Hauser logs July 17, 2024 |
|
Thursday, July 18 2024
** CHINA. 16100, July 17 at 2211, Chinese at S5/S7; also JBA on 15920; and at 2216, JBA carrier on 18965, weaker one on 18985. All of which likely attributable to CNR1 jamming vs Sound of Hope. I`ve heard the two 18s before but neither in EiBi nor Aoki, rather 18970. They do agree on 16100 & 15920 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SPAIN. 17855, Wed July 17 at 2200, token English from SNR, VG S9+10/20 direct, preview report about some festival; 2201.5 news starting with calls for media transparency to perfect democracy in congress; 2205 something about Gibraltar, considered ``Spanish`` by some, negotiations with UKQOGBANI. Then interview with Daniela about a theatrical festival, July 4-28, but I can`t catch the name of it, like Armando? Other three frequencies on and audible; none missing lately (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [non]. 11785.019, July 17 at 2200 NO signal direct from VOT English; while 11800 ROMANIA is quite audible. Nor at further chex 2202, 2243 when not measurable. Didn`t even try UTwente. At 2202 also nothing on possible/previous alternates 11795, 9875. How about transposing to 11875? At 2213 there is a JBA signal there: EiBi shows that would be AWR Vietnamese via Madagascar. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2251 monitoring: confirmed Wednesday July 17 at 1930 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 6160.000+, S9+5/10 into UTwente; and a few sex delayed on 3975.003, S9/+10. Also confirmed Wednesday July 17 at 2100 on WBCQ 7490 -73 Hz = 7489.927, S6/S8 and noisy into Maryland SDR. Next: 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160. As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated. Thanks this week for a generous contribution from William T Hassig, Mt Prospect IL, by check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702. One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to: woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9330, July 17 at 0642, tuning across World`s Last Chance Radio via WBCQ, another flat-earth lesson. Guy is explaining how there can`t be any satellites orbiting, because, well, the earth is flat! Most satellite dishes, he says, are not pointing straight up, after all, and are really picking up terrestrial signals. With a straight face?! Of course, many satellites in geosynchronous orbits are closer to the horizon. And they could only be ``straight up`` from an equatorial angle, duh. Is Allan Weiner, a ``man of science``, secretly snickering at his benefactors stemming from an Egyptian cosmetics tycoon? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 1650.42 & 1649.58 approx., July 17 at 0654 UT, there it is again, somestation with a tone of ~420 Hz astride other 1650 signals, mainly KCNZ Iowa. Earlier reports, probably on mwoffsets list: [May 21:] Hi from the South Pacific, Last evening (1000 UTC today) I observed something I've not noticed before. The 1650 AM North American stations were suffering QRM on both upper and lower sideband from spurs on 1649.5795 and 1650.4165 kHz, causing a heterodyne whine on the channel. See attached screenshot. Centre point for these is 1649.998, so perhaps KFOX or CINA have a transmitter or transmission issue? Coincidentally I note CINA was first reported in NZ last month by colleagues on a DXpedition, so perhaps I am 'hearing' evidence of them for the first time?! Is their anyone who hears CINA regularly that can check this possibility out for me? 73 Bryan Clark, Mangawhai, Northland, New Zealand`` ``Hello, Bryan. From Masset, I had a look at my overnight captures. First noted on May 19th and continues now (1000 UT). Best heard when I use my ALA 1530 aimed 310/130 deg. Not heard on unterminated N Beverage. Also heard well on my 110 deg DKAZ. Measuring approximately 1649.579 and 1650.416. Last night not heard at 0458 TOH capture, but clearly there at 0558. Wonder who might it be? 73 from above the Arctic Circle off the Norwegian coast, Walt Salmaniw`` ``May 22 #41381, Hi Bryan, Very interesting indeed, here is what I seen early this morning with my antenna pointing to the west from Austin, Texas with Jaguar pro, it appears the signal started at 0500z and gone by 1200z per my screen view. When I checked on my antenna to the south, there was very little showing, so, maybe KFOX?? Thoughts?? James Niven, Austin, Texas`` And Walt Salmaniw, BC, replies today July 17: ``Checked my overnight captures, Glenn. The tones came on at 0500:18 and off at 1200:15. The late 1200 encompasses all of Asia and the Pacific, Alaska, BC, western US states, most of central and western Mexico, and the southern bit of South America. The 0500 hour is too early to be from the Pacific and Asia. Perhaps this narrows things down a bit for the search of the culprit. 73, Walt`` I hear it so easily and steadily that I really doubt it be from outside N America. Apparently no one has tried to DF it; I shall try, if there be enough signal into the DX-398 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 2345 UT July 17 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Glenn Hauser logs July 16, 2024 |
|
Wednesday, July 17 2024
** ALGERIA. 17600, July 16 at 0630, Ifrikya FM in French, S7/S9 direct and the SSOB besides several JBA carriers with Doppler flutter, but not on this. If anyone catch them in English again, let us know, but probably on no reliable schedule (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** OKLAHOMA. RF 7, KOCO ``5`` OKC, celebrates its 70th anniversary, from July 15, 1954, originally KGEO analog A5 in Enid, owned by a guy named GEOrge. Many items about Enid on their newscasts of July 15, 2024, audiovideos of 2 minutes more or less: https://www.koco.com/article/koco-5-celebrates-70th-anniversary-on-the-road-enid/61587260 https://www.koco.com/article/enid-oklahoma-murals/61601844 https://www.koco.com/article/oklahoma-enid-symphony-orchestra-still-plays/61598286 https://www.koco.com/article/enid-railroad-museum-of-oklahoma/61598419 https://www.koco.com/article/oklahoma-leonardos-childrens-museum-enid-on-the-road/61602622 https://www.koco.com/article/oklahoma-enid-mayor-infrastructure-investment-water-david-mason-on-the-road/61602767 https://www.koco.com/article/koco-5-on-the-road-tour-enid/61608699 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** TURKEY. Re my July 5 report, Alan Roe replies on the WOR iog at 1911 July 16: ``Hi Glenn, Bill, I have just checked, and confirm that the play link for "TRT VOT World" is currently (since 1830 today) live streaming the English 1830 UT broadcast. You can get there by via https://www.trtdinle.com/radyolar then scroll down to VOT Radyolari and click on TRT VOT World. Alternatively use https://www.trtdinle.com/channel/trt-vot-world-7547 and select TRT VOT World. Based on past experience, these links should work for all broadcasts except 1630 UT (1730 in winter) which is heard via the TRT VOT East link at https://www.trtdinle.com/channel/trt-vot-east I'll update the WOR Hitlist in a few days. Alan Roe, Teddington, UK`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785.009, July 16 at 2158, no signal direct from VOT English, but cut on a few sex late after 2200 s/on, unusable at S9 = noise level, considerably weaker than Romania 11800. 2233 into UTwente when measured, S9+40/50 in music. 2237 ``always-by-your-side`` promo, and `Turkey`s Geomarked Products` = Van, city of breakfasts, music. Did not refer us to these: https://www.dailysabah.com/life/food/expat-briefer-why-a-van-breakfast-is-special https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/van-turkey-world-capital-of-breakfasts/index.html 2244 ``a-b-y-s` again, multi-lingual ID filler reel. 2247 music. 2253 s/off version ignoring SW. 2254 IS. 2256 restart IS with German IDs. Chopoff at 2259.8* just in time to avoid extra German. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15120, July 16 at 2205, SSOB at S9+20/40 - but it`s dead air, obviously VOA failing again to turn itself off after M-F 2130-2200 Bambara; something`s gone wrong at Grimesland (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2251 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday July 16 at 0340 the 0330 on WRMI 7780, S7/S9 into Maryland SDR. Confirmed Tuesday July 16 a 1315 the 1300 on WRMI 9955, JBA direct: but, no signal rechecked at 1325! I try other WRMI frequencies: nothing on 15770, 9395, 7780, 7730, 7570, so power failure at Okee? JBA on 9455 but that could be TAIWAN. I`m concerned because WRMI was also missing from 9955 the past two Tuesdays when checking for WOR before 1330. Jeff did not reply to my inquiry about being off the air on Tuesdays. However, there is another explanation this week!: ``Space Weather Message Code: SUMX01 Serial Number: 165 Issue Time: 2024 Jul 16 1346 UTC SUMMARY: X-ray Event exceeded X1 Begin Time: 2024 Jul 16 1311 UTC Maximum Time: 2024 Jul 16 1326 UTC End Time: 2024 Jul 16 1336 UTC X-ray Class: X1.9 Location: S05W85 NOAA Scale: R3 - Strong NOAA Space Weather Scale descriptions can be found at www.swpc.noaa.gov/noaa-scales-explanation Potential Impacts: Area of impact consists of large portions of the sunlit side of Earth, strongest at the sub-solar point. Radio - Wide area blackout of HF (high frequency) radio communication for about an hour.`` Or, as spaceweather.com put it via Mike Terry: ``Departing sunspot AR3638 exploded today (July 16th @ 1326 UT), producing an X1.9-class solar flare. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded the extreme ultraviolet flash. Radiation from the flare caused a deep shortwave radio blackout over the Atlantic Ocean. Transatlantic mariners and ham radio operators may have noticed loss of signal at all frequencies below 30 MHz for as much as an hour after the flare.`` What about SWLs?! It seems unlikely such an event would recur on a `schedule` at exactly same time three weeks running. At 1327, WWCR was JBA on 15825. By 1430, 9955 was again a JBA carrier. WOR 2251 also confirmed Tuesday July 16 at 2000 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1322.994 kHz, S9+5 into UTwente; preceded by Wavescan, Jeff White reading in Spanish publicity about the upcoming Mexi-DX meeting in coördination with R. Educación. Next: 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975; 1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160; 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW; 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160. 9955, July 16 at 0635, WRMI in Spanish at S9+20/25 bothering 9960 VANUATU. So it`s again the unscheduled RFI relay (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15150, July 16 at 0637, DEJOM at S9+15/20, 0638 WMLK ID, so this broadcast reactivated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 9960, July 16 at 0634, YL in Bislama, presumably the PSA spots on R. Vanuatu, S7/S8 with ACI from WRMI (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 1649.58 & 1650.42, July 16 at 0628, ~420 Hz tone not from Iowa, again. Is anyone else hearing this? Should not be hard to pinpoint. Maybe so only after a local midnight. Could be plugged into wrong satellite feed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 13828-13850 approx., July 16 at 2248, OTH radar clickery, peaking at S9, and still audible under PMS on 13845 WWCR S9+10/20 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 2315 UT July 16 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
