Note: previous `lot` report dispatched at 0321 UT March 9 should also
have been dated March 7-8, not March 8-9.

WORLD OF RADIO HITLIST update

Hi Glenn, my latest Hitlist update.
https://www.w4uvh.net/hitlist.htm

1) Updated UTC offset notations for change to DST:  Cuba (Habana R, R
Progreso, R Rebelde), USA (R Martí, V of America)
2) Turkey - Added a link to the TRT Global
Best wishes and 73, Alan Roe

** ITALY [and non]. 7399.906, March 9 at 1624, tune in UTwente just in
time for publicized monthly broadcast of Marconi Radio International
on ``7400`` until 1630 --- S8/S9 with Italian? talk vs much stronger
ACI from 7404.984 with ``shortwave`` jingle, Dutch? presumably R.
Piepzender as both these are the only stations anywhere, anywhen on
7395 & 7400. 7399.906 still going ast 1635 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 1549.82, March 9 at 0730, besides 1 kHz tones from unknown
US station, the JBA carrier hetting also detectable, maybe partway to
1549.81, presumed XEREL Morelia (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11934.893,     March 9 at 1945, huge buzz atop Arabic
from Rep. of Yemen Radio via Riyadh, S9+20/30 into UTwente. Presumably
transmitter fault rather than jamming. Had been clear of this for
several weeks. Tnx tip from Tony Rogers and David Morris, bdxc (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2285 monitoring: confirmed UT
Sunday March 9 from 0511 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+15/20 with some
storm crashes into nearby SDR; very late after nominal 0415 as Houston
AMSAT started an hour late at 0400, after TWIAR, and before ARRL News.
From next week: WOR nominal 0315. Next:
2000 UT Sunday IRRS 1323-Italy;
2230 UT Sunday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
2330 UT Sunday WRMI 7570 to NW [and/or 7780];

Financial support appreciated for our non-commercial public service
program: MO or check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid
OK 73702

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to:
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7505, March 9 at 0654 UT, WRNO on late again unpredictably,
S9+25 with song, presumably hymn (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. MW bandscan during the Hour of Confusion, March 9
after 0700 UT, hits  several frequencies with 1 kHz tones, no doubt
from unattended and failed satellite feeds; exacerbated due to the
imposition of DST. These are not hets since the pitch peaks the same
on LSB and USB.

680, March 9 at 0714-0718+ UT, tone on for 30 seconds, off for 20
seconds, over and over. No announcement between, and not CJOB which is
continuously audible mixing with Manitoba mentions, intruding as usual
into American Airspace. Most likely my regular KFEQ, St Joseph MO, or
possibly KKYX San Antonio TX.

870, March 9 at 0719 UT, no doubt WWL New Orleans, 1 kHz tones
alternating with announcement, ``Westwood One, SES? something,
transponder 17, call 720-873-5177 between 8 am and 10 pm Eastern
time`` - that is not heard on most of the others but possibly only due
to QRM while the tones are clearly audible. AC 720 is Denver CO
overlaying 303, uplink location?

1100, March 9 at 0721 UT, S9+30 of dead air, no doubt WTAM. It`s
normally // but not synch with 1110 KFAB which is nominal now, and by
0727 WTAM modulation matches KFAB. No tones heard here.

1300, March 9 at 0722 UT, 1 kHz tone and unreadable announcement,
probably like on WWL. Too many possibilities, from KAKC Tulsa to
Nebraska, Texans, etc.

1380, March 9 at 0723 UT, 1 kHz tone on and off. Which?
1470, March 9 at 0725 UT, 1 kHz tone on and off. Which?
1550, March 9 at 0726 UT, 1 kHz tone on and off. Which?

Meanwhile I scan up and down the band a few more times in case I
missed some more tonals during pauses (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

The WMLK 17525 frequency 1730-2230 in A-25 caught my eye, as VOA English used 17530 from 1700-1830 during A-24. Tight squeeze from 1730-1830 in A-25 if VOA retains that frequency. Of course the entire USAGM shortwave output could be facing drastic cuts, so who knows what will happen.

Glenn Hauser logs March 6-7, 2025  View Printable Version

Logs
** CANADA. 328 MCW kHz, March 7 at 0719 UT, dash and YTL, Big Trout
Lake ON. Hadn`t heard this one in a long time.

346 MCW kHz, March 7 at 0725 UT, dash and YXL, Sioux Lookout ON. Also
many more from USA, q.v., and UNIDENTIFIED (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15230, March 7 at 1605, RHC S7 but JBM, still on but usually
off by 1600. SAWA = something`s always wrong at - (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** MEXICO. 800, March 7 at 0712 UT, heavy distorted mess from XEERG vs
KQCV OKC, still unfixed. I wonder if CKLW and PJB listeners also have
a problelm with it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SCOTLAND [non]. I was complaining about music being hard to find on
SW vs talk formats. But unlike some stations with only one or three
transmitters, there are plenty of music blox on one WRMI or another,
altho only one classical: `Encore`. Turned on my BSR1 caradio, Friday
March 7 around 2030 and there it was, already tuned to 15770. Fair
signal but never a blaster here since it`s aimed NE. Too bad not a
single WRMI in daytime be aimed across N America, and should be on 13
MHz or higher. I had already heard this new biweekly episode at first
airing, UT Fri Mar 7 at 0200 on 5850. Other WRMI times: UT Sun 0100 on
5850, UT Mon 0300 on 5950, Tue 1300 on 15770. 5950 is subject to DST
shifts unlike the others, so should already be at 0200 UT Monday
when the System L sked shows it should also be on 7730 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. LW bandscan March 7 at 0713-0739 UT, local noise level
abated a bit allows IDs from these MCW ND beacons to be heard, but
many more JBA carriers only, see UNIDENTIFIED. Also two from CANADA,
q.v.

245, FS, Sioux FallS SD;
255, SW, StillWater OK;
293, UI, qUIncy IL mixing/alting with FBY, FairBurY NE. Unusually UI

356, ODX, Ord NE;

420, PK, Olathe/Herbb KS
(Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. As if in reply to my observation that I`ve heard no
trace of any CW beacons on the ISM band for months, are any active?
These logs in CIDX Messenger:

``13566.50 kHz CW; 1519 UT Feb. 26. KE4TWI. HiFER (High Frequency
Experimental Radio) CW beacon in Lebanon, TN. Weak. These
transmissions occur within the ISM band
(Industrial/Scientific/Medical) where unlicensed experimental
operation is allowed, but with very low power levels (mW range). In
hobbyist lingo this is the "22m HiFER" band, which is 13553 to 13567
kHz (Hudak-ON)

13566.55 kHz CW; 1456 UT Feb. 22. RVA. HiFER CW beacon. Richmond, VA.
Weak to fair (Hudak-ON)

13566.75 kHz CW; 0523 UT Feb. 26. AMA. HiFER CW beacon located in
Hamilton, ON, which is close to me. Reception via ground wave. Weak to
fair with chirp on the signal (Hudak-ON)`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2285 monitoring: confirmed Friday
March 7 at 1300 the first SWBC on WRMI 15770, S8/S9 direct.

Also confirmed Friday March 7 at 2130 on IRRS SW via AM Italia,
1322.997+, S9+5 into UTwente across Europe.

Also confirmed Friday March 7 at 2130 on WRMI webcast, but 9955 not on
air yet: it does cut on at *2153 JIP the last minutes of WOR! Next:

2300 UT Friday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?];
2330 UT Friday SW Radio, Germany 3975;

** U S A. 17517 & 17533, March 6 at 2031, JBA matching spurs +/- 8 kHz
from WMLK 17525, which is S9+25 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 830, March 7 at 0707 UT, WCCO with `The Other Side of
Midnight` talk show host against DST, gives a phone number starting
with 720, so I wonder if it originate at WGN? He is // WGN 720 but
about 8 words behind WCCO. So he`s on WCCO before WGN. Search leads to
Frank Morano also on WABC ``live and local`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. LW bandscan, full of tantalizing JBA carriers of ND
beacons, March 7 at 0713-0739 UT. If only my local noise level could
be lessened! The ones with audible IDs are separate under USA, CANADA,
q.v.

227, 233, 251, 260, 267, 272, 284, 299, 309, 314, 316, 334, 338, 341,
344, 365=two mixing, 371, 382, 385, 388, 391, 397, 404, 407, 410, 412,
417.6?? maybe a birdie but all the others are on exact 1.0-kHz
spacing. One may consult these for likelies:
https://dxinfocentre.com/ndb.htm
https://rxx.classaxe.com/en/rna/signals
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 810.57, March 7 at 0710 UT, JBA mystery carrier hetting
810.00 WHB. I`ve DFed it more than once as roughly 100/280 degrees
from Enid. Now we need others to get a bearing from other angles to
triangulate it. This can be done on a hand-held portable with built-in
ferrite rod antenna, preferably with BFO, not with otherwise superior
fancy fixed antennas which have such a disadvantage (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

From now and for an unknowntime, at least for 3 years, I will not use any radio except the remote SDRs forDXing. Recently we moved from the village back to the city in a space thatprohibits the use of desktop DXing, a place flooded by high levels of noise inthe LMHF bands. The radio is now used mostly for FM, for news listening.we runpolitically lively condition with always very interesting twits every day ..
