** KOREA NORTH [non]. Nippon no Kaze, 1500-1558 UT, in Korean, Not
Furusato no Kaze --- ```Hi Glenn - A slight correction to your
posting:

``KOREA NORTH [non]. 9685-, April 9 at 1523, gospel? music from
stronger of two close signals slightly offset minus. A24 EiBi & Aoki
show Furusato no Kaze [actually Nippon no Kaze "il bon ue baram" -
Ron], from Japan via Paochung, TAIWAN with two Korean broadcasts at
1500-1530 & 1530-1559. Apparently jammed or collided, but nothing else
at this hour listed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)``

Aoki database: A24 Shortwave Frequency List April 10 2024, 0100 UTC
kHz Time(UTC) ITU Station Lang. Location
9685 1430-1500 TWN Furusato no kaze Jpn Paochung
9685 1500-1530 TWN Nippon no Kaze "il bon ue baram" Kor Paochung
9685 1530-1558 TWN Nippon no Kaze "il bon ue baram" Kor Paochung
[il bon ue baram = Hometown Wind, ふるさとの風 - Ron]

- - - Per Hiroshi - http://hiroshi.mediacat-blog.jp/e154169.html :
April 9th:
1430's "Furusato no Kaze" is good at 15475, 9706, and 9685 kHz. No
jamming could be confirmed at this time either. The same program as
1330 is on Tuesdays. And "Sally the Witch" has been added to 1457's
nostalgic anime songs.`` Ron, California``` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Wed Apr 10 at 2200, token English from SNR, VG
direct, feature to be about SARAH[?], an AI creature dispensing
medical info in 7 languages (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, Apr 10 at 2200, VOT English is JBA to the DX-390, no
comparison to 17855 Spain. On the R75 it`s S9+20/30 with ACI from
11780. Badax is speaking so no motivation to try to listen. Recheck
after 2245 into Maryland SDR, mostly music, 2252 badax s/off as if the
1230 broadcast only, 2253 IS but chopoff before 2254* (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 356 MCW kHz, April 10 at 0710 UT, ODX, 25-watt NDB at Ord
NE, only somewhat unusual one vs high storm noise level. RNA Signals
List notes: ``ULS WRLB2403 expires Feb 2025. Licensed to State of
Nebraska`` --- first NDB I`ve run across with a *real* FCC callsign
besides its nick-call. Do they all have a secret one? (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 13563 approx., April 10 at 2220, AN is the only HIFER beacon
JBA now, very close to same frequency bearing others lately. This one
is in the LWCA list as 13562.9~ in Somerton, AZ, which is in the SW
corner next to Yuma. New one for me (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
A24 SCHEDULE INFO LINX:
http://www.worldofradio.com/index.html

** CUBA. 15140, April 9 at 1530, RHC Spanish S9 but undermodulated and
squeezing out spurblobs approx plus/minus 3 kHz, and weaker plus/minus
6. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA NORTH [non]. 9685-, April 9 at 1523, gospel? music from
stronger of two close signals slightly offset minus. A24 EiBi & Aoki
show Furusato no Kaze, from Japan via Paochung, TAIWAN with two Korean
broadcasts at 1500-1530 & 1530-1559. Apparently jammed or collided,
but nothing else at this hour listed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. Just sent this to OETA in CDT: ``BBC News mixed up ---
Could you please straighten out the scheduling of BBC News
programmmes? Customarily and as still shown on your website schedule
on weekdays, BBCWN America is at 4:30 on World, and 5:30 on HD. Yet
today Tuesday something non-BBC was at 4:30 on World; and Context is
on HD at 5:30 so we miss BBCWNA completely! However, about 5:35 HD
froze both via Optimum cable and your own stream, as received here and
as often the case not enough signal to my rooftop antenna to check it
OTA. O, finally at 5:41, Tech Diffs... Aha, you were fixing the mixup
so WNA starts 5:42 - but will be cut short? Oops, WNA opening, but
it`s NOT news but some BBC docu about sickle cell -- I think that`s
what was on World an hour before. I wonder if all this is caused at
OETA or from PBS. Or BBC itself! BTW when there is Breaking News! it`s
pretty obvious that WNA original feed is at 4:00. Maybe you should run
it then ``live`` if that would not cause even more problems.
Anyhow, I`m glad you are adding stream for World and Create! Regards,
Glenn Hauser, Enid`` (Glenn Hauser, Enid, April 9, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11934.999, April 9 at 1803, Arabic S9+20/25 into
UTwente; 1907 ME music, 1918 ``Yemen`` ID; no QRM or mod problems now
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, April 9 at 2200 no VOT signal into portable; but
by 2208 on R75, S9+20/30 but unfortunately, badax is reading the news.
2223 also her with a commentary mentioning Gaza and Biden but could
not follow gist of it; also some ACI splash from 11780 Brasil. Via
UTwente at 2250 when measured, S9+50/55! in songs. 2254 badax does the
s/off too, for 1230 on 17620 only. 2255 IS. 2256* chopoff just before
restart with German IDs. Something`s always awry at Ankara (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2237 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday
April 9 at 1305 the 1300 on WRMI 9955, S7/S9 direct, no jamming
audible. Next:

NOTE: There are always line breaks between each time entry, but some
recipients eliminate them, like ABDX, merging them all into one
unreadable blob, why? I should not have to put a semicolon after each
line to separate them!

2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975
1200 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB

2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW

Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 12160, April 9 at 1541, WWCR-2 with annoying squeal,
spurblobs peaking about plus/minus 1.4 kHz. #2 elsewhen on 5935, 7490,
5935.
9980, April 9 at 1543, also lesser squeal from WWCR-4 spurblobs
peaking about plus/minus 3 kHz. #4 elsewhen on 5890, 7520. See
previous report for explanation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9475 & 5085, WTWW: George McClintock update as of 2010 UT
April 9: 9475 back on air now: yesterday`s interruptions were due to
driver overload, arcing and water leakage. Nominal sked is still 20-22
UT PPP & 22-24 others on 9475; 0000-0430 A.W.R. on 5085.
Coincidentally I had been looking at the FCC (not HFCC) website which
has finally been updated with A24 info as well as B23. As I told
George, it does not show the two frequencies active, rather other old
ones not in use: 5830, 9930, 12105. He also plans to get 15 MHz on the
air; I don`t recall that frequency. 9475 will be starting earlier with
additional programming (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Correxion: interval between LSR and DX is 104 minutes,
not 144, i.e. 1 hour and 44 minutes; fixed: 891 kHz, April 8 at 0707
UT, het upon WLS. Rather late for Algiers, but what else could it be?
104 minutes after their sunrise 0523 today, per gaisma.com (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 13563.0, April 9 at 1534, JBA CW, a HIFER beacon I can`t
copy. LWCA list https://www.lwca.net/sitepage/part15/index.htm
suggests YSO, Yellow Springs OH, 13563.04~ which I last heard Dec 19,
2023. Or:
``13563.05~ DAD St George, UT DM37 New, on soon? CW (2022/04)``

Still no entry for RQ, logged twice recently about 13563.5 -- ahá,
topping the credit list is ``BH Bill Hensel AAØRQ, Pine, CO``, so ham
call of the operator of PCO near same frequency is really AA0RQ as in
ARRL/FCC Lookup, among 17 other Hensels. So suspect RQ is also at Pine
CO, or even same as PCO.

Later at 2220 April 9, it so happens I am hearing RQ again, RQ RQ RQ
dash RQ RQ RQ dash, etc., JBA on 13563.5~ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** YEMEN [non]. See SAUDI ARABIA. BTW, I hear that USA has been
intercepting arms shipments from Iran to the Houthis, and giving them
to Ukraine - neat! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 15466.85 USB approx., April 9 at 1531, 2-way in
colloquial Spanish INTRUDERS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 27225 USB, April 9 at 2213, unhuman AI or
text-reading voice stands oot among the CB cacophony, sometimes fading
under it, about Hamas hostages and the Canadian government; later
about robotic dogs vs Labrador retrievers at Korean AF bases, until
2217. Should we call this a N American pirate? It was like a
broadcast, not a 2-way contact (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 35790, April 9 at 2209, JBA carrier again, probably 3 x
11930 Radio Martí (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** CUBA. 15230, April 8 at 2219, RHC S9/+10 but mod sup/torted.
Unreadable, but intonation sounds Portuguese; 11760 not on for a
Spanish comparison, rather Chinese music fill in Portuguese
disservice. WRTH A24 update lax RHC PP at 22-23 on 15230 but is in
Aoki. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. 28425 USB, April 8 at 2227, HI8AT making quick
yet friendly contacts; some guys do that even if no contest. QRZ.com:
``HI8AT Dominican Republic flag Dominican Republic, Julio Cesar Jose,
P O Box 951, Santo Domingo, D. N. 11101, Dominican Republic`` - only a
few phone sigs and beacons on 10 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GUAM. 15625, April 8 at 2224, rock? music S7/S9 with flutter. Aoki
shows this hour is Chinese from KSDA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11935, April 8 at 1930, presumed Rep. of Yemen Radio,
Arabic still going; into UTwente now has ACI from 11930 and AACI from
11925. That would now be Martí, and I guess VORW via France as sked
this hour Mondays only (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Mon Apr 8 at 2208, token English from REE VG direct
tho some deep fading on the DX-390, feature today about manga/anime in
Spain. Not interested. However, further tuning on R75 found quite
sufficient signals on the other three, 15390 at S9+10; 15520 at
S9+10/20; 17815 at S9+10/20; 17855 at S9+20/30 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, April 8 at 2215, no signal direct from VOT English.
2230 I thought it had come on, rather bleed from 11780 Brasil in
bandwidth too wide. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn

** U S A. TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE MW DX MONITORING, April 8, 2024 from
1830 past 1900 UT. This is very close to local mean noon here which is
always 1832 UT:

With city-to-city distances, approx., not site to receiver.
Mainly on the altazimuth wrist-mounted DX-398, internal ferrite
antenna only, on declining battery power and not especially sensitive.
From just outside the house facing south. But first:

1200 at 1832 on the R75 with N/S shortwire, JBA carrier, maybe two of
them. WOAI? next closest is 1 kW KYOO in Bolivar MO; bigsigs in IL &
ND unlikely. 1200 at 1848 faded up to VG level, 1849 network eclipse
coverage from east coast, recorded:

Got to be 50 kW WOAI San Antonio. Gone by 1905 check. 777 km/485 stmi

1560 at 1833, fringe KEBC, 1 kW Del City = OKC has some CCI. There are
several unexpected little stations in KS, MO and TX, but 46 kW KGOW
Bellaire [Houston] TX is my prime target, as its Vietnamese will be
unmistakable and unique. Despite its patterns, easily heard here at
night. Keeps growing past 1837, and by 1843 during totality in SE OK,
it`s loud and clear in VV, overcoming KEBC, recorded:
https://www.w4uvh.net/Eclipse_KGOW_1560_20240408_1843.mp3
Still in at 1855, another clip with some singing:
https://www.w4uvh.net/Eclipse_KGOW_1560_20240408_1855.mp3
1901 still dominant but declining. 1908 gone. 777 km/483 stmi

1620 at 1845, talk station mentions Texas; nothing earlier. Got to be
10 kW WTAW College Station. Not often heard here even at night. 658
km/409 stmi

1700 at 1845, SAH between two carriers; 1858 San Antonio ad, AC 210;
1859 fade before ID! Trouble is, neither TX is near San Antonio:
Brownsville and Richardson. NRC AM Log shows 5 kW KKLF Metroplex is
Spanish, Jalapeño Radio; still? But address in Corpus Christi, so
multi-station group? If it`s got to be English, that leaves much
further KVNS Brownsville, 8.8 kW listed as Fox Sports. Maybe both
unless Des Moines snuck in.
Richardson: 395 km/246 stmi; Brownsville: 1167 km/725 stmi

1530 at 1846, baseball talk in Spanish. Maybe just KXTD Wagoner/Tulsa
OK, but SS in TX are 50 KW KGBT Harlingen. More likely is the only
other TX, KZNX Creedmoor, 10 kW Spanish; and despite address way out
in El Paso, is really just south of Austin in the Eclipse zone. 701
km/436 stmi. Recorded:
https://www.w4uvh.net/Eclipse_KZNX_1530_20240408_1846.mp3

1480 at 1847, Spanish in mix, overcoming KQAM Wichita. Only SS in TX
is 5 kW KLVL Pasadena [Houston]. 785 km/488 stmi

1120 at 1850, religion in English vs Spanish from KETU Catoosa
[Tulsa]. Only TX on 1120 is religious 5.6 kW KTXW Manor [Austin],
separable. 674 km/419 mi

1110 at 1850, mixture in English. Primary is 50 kW KVTT Mineral Wells
[Plano, Metroplex] listed Asian format. Only other TX is 5 kW KTEK
Alvin [Houston], religious. 813 km/505 stmi. KFAB Omaha can have
remnant daytime signal, doubtful now.

990 at 1851, Spanish religion, surely 7 kW KFCD Farmersville [Dallas].
Not trans- but within Totality; more signal than should be in daytime.
385 km/239 stmi

870 at 1852, SAH of about 7 Hz looping SE. Hoping for WWL! The only TX
is 1 kW KFJZ Fort Worth. They fit! MWoffsets in 2023 and 2024
measurements has WWL on 869.9928 and KFJZ on 869.9991, i.e. 6.3 Hz. My
count-the-fades-per-second method was a tossup between 6 and 7. Gone
by 1905 check. WWL: 1019 km/633 stmi. Recorded:
https://www.w4uvh.net/Eclipse_WWL_KFJZ_870_20240408_1852.mp3

1710 at 1857, steady open carrier, local? Not noticed before, maybe a
TIS or Talking House.

1680 at 1900, gospel/CW music loops NW/SE. Got to be 10 kW KRJO Monroe
LA. 683 km/424 stmi

1510 at 1902, traffic and WLAC IDs with 98.3, Nashville! Unexpected,
way off the angle expected for trans-Eclipse propagation to here. 995
km/618 stmi

1530 at 1903, English ads from ENE, 1905 ``ESPN 1530`` so WCKY
Cincinnati/KY, likewise! 1212 km/753 stmi. These two were also
reported during the TSE from east/south of them.

Also checked 600 several times, clear frequency locally, for 5 kW KTBB
Tyler TX, but no sign of it. Of course highband worx much better. I
also looked for KBEL 1240 in Idabel OK where there were loads of
visitors in OK`s small Totality corner, not really expecting to hear
my most distant 240-mile Okie never logged, and did not: just the
usual fringemix of Elk City and Wichita.

Since Allan Weiner made such a big deal of the TSE, I thought there
might be live coverage on WBCQ. But after 1900, 7490 & 6160 webcasts
were ordinary stuff, gospel huxter and music.

Meanwhile, visual DX: glimpsed the eclipse several times thru ISO
glasses, which sure don`t want to fit inside, or outside my
spectacles.
https://www.w4uvh.net/Eclipse_at_Enid_thru_cheap_filter_20240408.jpg

There were some fleeting clouds but mostly clear. Not enough leaves on
the trees yet for multiple crescent projexions; could see some thru
pinholes. We witnessed the 2017 TSE in Nebraska, so decided to avoid
the trouble, crowds and expense this decade, but enjoy it from home.
Also noted local F temps: at 1814, 70.6. At 1840 as max begins,
dropped to 65.3. Minimum 63.9 a few minutes later. After 1900 soon
back up to 71 (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2237 monitoring: confirmed Monday
April 8 at 1954 the 1930 on SW Radio, Germany, 6160.001, S9+15 into
UTwente; and a couple words behind on 3975.002, S9+5. Both close down
at 2000* contrary to schedule. Storms? I had been hearing lightning
crashes, and there was Blitz over the BeNeFra, but nowhere over
Germany. Opened up 6159.929 for JBA WBCQ. Both still off at 2130.

Confirmed UT Tuesday April 9 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, still there, I`ll
take it, despite being replaced on the skedgrid by Wavescan. But now
we are in limbo? Still no Louisiana or Durango2 kiwis, so I pick an
Athens GA: one of them has overload on 7775 sounds like WLCR 9330!
with the phony Brit accent. The other Athens is clear for a fair WOR
signal. Next:

1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?]
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 [new]
1200 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB
1230 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB
[previous #2236][SW suspended but still streamed?]
1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160

** U S A. 35790, April 8 at 2228, JBA carrier, presumably R. Martí, 3
x 11930 where it`s S9+20/30. Maybe with a big summer sporadic E
opening I can get more than that. Nothing on 23860 = x 2 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15555 USB, April 8 at 2223, WJHR gospel huxter overtime, S9
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9475, April 8, 2240-2300, WTWW on with bigsig. Checking
since George McClintock called after 2200 saying it`s running 75 kW; I
guess with A.W.R. programming, but dumps off the air and back on
several times. Can`t keep it on or deliberately testing? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
