Glenn Hauser logs September 16, 2023  View Printable Version

Logs
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Sat Sept 16 at 1921 tune-in via
Argentine remote, LRA36 ID and credits, into another anniversary
salute with a song, S7/9+5. I guess they signed on somewhat earlier,
but nothing there at previous chex before and after 1800. Still going
at 1943 check with `Uniendo Voces`; at 2108 with LRA36 mention; 2126,
``comunicad``. Still at 2242 music, off by 2300 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** ASCENSION. 21645, Sept 16 at 1507, JBA S4/S5 is the OSOB except for
21550 Algeria. EiBi shows it`s BBC Hausa, only on Saturdays at
1300-1700; for anything besides stupid ballgames? (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CANADA. 6754 USB, Sept 16 at 0418, Trenton Military, CHR
reactivated after weeks of silence whenever checked at random,
likewise day frequency 15034 USB. But it`s an exercise in futility as
it`s ``No report received`` from everywhere, at first Canadian
locations only, both for aviation weather and terminal forecasts; by
0434 ditto for Thule and European airports. At 0419 UT, time announced
as ``0020Zulu`` when it`s really almost that hour EDT!! Same kind of
error always happened last time it was active. This was via Georgia
remote. I was not hearing it direct at first due to? underpowered?
propagation? R1 blackouts have occurred. My high line noise level.

Richard Lacroix and I may take credit for its reactivation. Since I
had asked him if he had any news from his contacts at Trenton about
its status, whether it would ever come back. He tells me at 0248:

``Hummmm, I left a message today with one of my contacts, the LF/HF
Team Lead, and interesting enough, 6754 is now back on-air, loud and
clear, with "no report received" and still not in the EST, not UTC
time zone. No response to my e-mail yet. I will be curious about the
explanation. Richard``

Maybe they just needed a reminder? By 0640, 6754 USB has become JBA
direct, about equal to my S9 noise level.

Richard said it should switch to 15034 USB at 1100 and he was hearing
it at 1300, but not me at 1504 nor at 1555 into Maryland SDR. At 1616
it`s audible at Missori remote; still only ``no report received``. By
1818 I finally detect 15034 JBA direct. Well, that`s a start (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT [and non]. 9439.995, Sept 16 at 2143, no signal from R. Cairo
during 2115+ English sesquihour, into UTwente. Something`s always
egregious in Egypt. Of course they will try again and fail again over
and over. By 2200 there is some other weak signal just above 9440.
That hour is listed as BBC English via Philippines to Indonesia.
Qahira could QRM that when on (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 17450, Sept 16 at 1505, JBA carrier and nothing
else below 17500, presumed Turkish jammer which has not caught up with
major schedule -- and name! change of Dengê Welat, as reported by Tony
Rogers to BDXC-UK:

``Dengê Gel on 11510 kHz --- Dengê Gel (Voice of the People) has a new
schedule according to their website. The station was previously called
Dengê Welat. Translated from denge-gel.org

"Our radio, the Voice of the People, goes to the winter frequency.
From September 15 onwards, our radio will broadcast on 2 frequencies.
According to this, the new frequencies are as follows. Diyarbakır time
from 06:30 to 19:00 on frequency 11.540 kHz. It is on the frequency of
7.460 kHz from 19:00 to 01:00."

Converted to UTC this would be 0330-1600 on 11540 kHz and 1600-2200 on
7460 kHz. Presumably this is via Tashkent. However, I found them at
1115 UTC today (16 September) on 11510 kHz instead, matching the live
stream on their website. They were previously on the 16 metre-band
around 17450-17485, shadowed by a Turkish music jammer (which is still
on 17450 today). 73's Tony`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6950 AM, Sept 16 at 0125 just a bit after posting my
previous log, another ID: ``WAVE Radio, we are very existential, ride
the wave`` as heard via NH remote (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 20, Sept 16 at 0206 UT, area tropo is up visiblizing
KBZC-LD, OKC, virtual 42. Logged a number of times before but now I
compare it to rabbitears.info info. Unlike most multi-subchannel
stations, this one displays the same PSIP ID on all of them, KBZC-LD.
Makes it harder to ID the individual subs, not always with clear bugs
of their own. Like 42-1 illegible algo #LFN ? in UR. Has open
captioning in English altho the audio is already in English. As far as
I can tell, they do correlate with rabbitears.info info:

42-1 20.1001 720p DD2.0 KBZC-LD Visión Latina
42-2 20.1002 480i (w) DD2.0 KBZC-LD beIN Sports Xtra

42-6 20.1006 480i DD2.0 KBZC-LD Infomercials
42-7 20.1007 480i DD2.0 KBZC-LD Shop LC

I have not found what (w) means. 42-6 at the time was about Legal
Help. On the way to oblivion, but by 0231 has faded to breakups
providing ever-changing unique views of DTV art!

to compare the exact G.C. of all other local FM and TV sites. With
full details including exact heights and callsigns I have omitted.
KWTV atop at 1568 feet AGL, i.e. it`s their original tower for analog

KBZC-LD last logged May 6, 2023 and multiple times in 2016, 17, 18,
19, 20. It was originally licensed to Enid on 42 in 2016 but never
seen as a local. First seen Nov 10, 2016 from OKC on RF 42 before
repack.

At the outset of latest log, besides several BAD signals, the only
other LP decoding was RF 34 33-1 KWRW-LD (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, Sept 16 at 2158, VOT IS & English IDs, not off
the air today, S9+50/55 into UTwente. Timesignal about 10 sex early
before 2200 even considering internet delay. What`s the point? False
implication of general accuracy. Modulation starts OK this time. First
news about aid to Libya. 2211 song, now distortion is annoying. 2215
two-minute multi-lingual ID filler reel. 2217 song with drumming. 2221
travelog about Ephesus, some other place on Black Sea; with lots of
distorted musical intervals. 2228 finishes, another distsong. 2231
`Gripping Piles` about a neural network, language learning. 2234
music. 2237 multilingual ID filler reel crutch *again*. Song. 2243
`Turkey`s Geomarked [sic] Products` on carpets. 2246 another song: now
the music distortion is terrible. A pity TRT ruin some otherwise nice
music thus. 2252 sign/off. 2254 IS. 2256 restart IS, now with German
IDs interspersed twice a minute to 2257* depriving us of any
accidental German hour. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs September 15-16, 2023  View Printable Version
Saturday, September 16 2023

Logs
** CUBA [and non]. 11850, Sept 15 at 0018, S9+20 RHC Spanish air not
dead, merely undermodulated; even the spurs on 11840 & 11860 exhibit
traces of mod; the upper blasted by Sa`udi Yemenia buzzmitter.
Something`s always wrong at Riyadh and RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9442.43, Sept 15 at 2129, can`t get UTwente synch to lock on
R. Cairo at usual 9439.995 or anywhere close to 9440 but reads S9+30,
extremely sup/torted modulation, unusable, wiggle that patchcord; try
Parma SDR instead, seems to peak around here then with offset
fluxuating from +1 to -21 Hz, later -42 to -67 Hz. Finally at 2158,
UTwente lox on to 9440.002. Something`s always egregious in Egypt
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MALDIVES [non]. 11620.00, Sept 15 at *1459.7 carrier on, 1500 s/on
of VOMK Maldives service; seems English but very undermodulated S9/+10
vs HLNL here. Back on-frequency after yesterday on 11620.41. As soon
as we are more or less convinced it`s the RBAustralia Kununurra site,
this comes in from Mauno Ritola:

``[WOR] 11620 1500-1530 site --- Sorry, wrong info, Reach Beyond
Australia confirmed now, that it is not (any more?) via them. So maybe
TWN or TAC. Best regards, Mauno``. I still say it`s not Tashkent. I
also compare it to 11825, RBA in Burmese: weaker S9 = HLNL, and slight
wobble of carrier, similar to 11620.

At 1527 I try one of the five KiwiSDRs on Taiwan, BM2KVV #1: 11620 is
JBA and on-frequency. Of course that is inconclusive, as could be too
far for groundwave and too close for skywave. I wonder which of the
five may be real close to any of the three major SWBC sites on island?
Off shortly after 1530*

From my angle it`s not Tashkent. But Wolfgang Bueschel says 11620
signal characteristix today for AWR Burmese on 11850 before 1500 via
Uzbekistan were identical to 11620 afterwards (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6950 AM, Sept 16 at 0026, JBA carrier direct, the
OPOB. My HLNL makes my pirate DXing even more minimal. By 0102, NH SDR
is getting drumming at S7. 0108 dinging and YL ID as ``W-A-V-E Radio``
as also reported here:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,118198.0.html
0117 ID again this time adding it fonetikaly (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6960 AM, Sept 16 at 0059, JBA carrier direct,
slightly stronger than 6950. 0102 into NH SDR, S7 with rock. Bet this
one is Ballsmacker, regular frequency and UT Saturday time. Yes, as
here:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,118204.0.html
I am trying to be helpful by linking to other reports at HFU, but some
editors delete them from my reports! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Friday Sept 15 at 2200, token English from SNR,
previews features after the news to be about a ``Prado on the
Prairie`` art museum in Dallas featuring worx of Spain; and Lebanon
correspondent about sustainable tourism in the Mediterranean. Even
before the news, fan mail from a John in Florida. 2208 interview about
art with Frank Warden? 2222 Leb report. 2228 song ``El Fin del Mundo``
which became popular with the COVID pandemic. Three other frequencies
also weakerly audible into Maryland SDR, 11670, 15520; and 17715 with
some strange fluxuation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SWAZILAND. 9585, Fri Sept 15 at 1453, S6/S8 open carrier, then
starts music box IS and IDs as ``This is TWR, broadcasting from
Eswátini``. HFCC shows 64 degrees for CIRAF 53SE, i.e. Madagascar, in
Malgache language except French on weekends. This has got to be
longpath. My NGS globe shows the route would be roughly ESE from
Manzini, across southern Indian Ocean, Australia, Tarawa, Hawai`i, to
Enid. CRI in Japanese also sked at 1500 on 9585 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, Sept 15 at 2200, VOT English is not off the air,
VG strength into UTwente, but heavy overmodulation distortion. Altho
mostly understandable, I refuse to subject myself to that and move on
to Spain. 2312 recheck, already off the air, so little or no extra
German this time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Additional WORLD OF RADIO time appears on WRMI skedgrid
checked Sept 15: Thursday 1400 UT on 9955; to be confirmed. Two other
9955 airings have been pending for ``later in Sept``: UT Sun 0000 and
Tue 1300.

WORLD OF RADIO 2208 monitoring: confirmed Friday September 15 at 2045
the 2030 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz only, Villa Estense;
nearest SDR Noale is busy but Parma gets it poorly, S6/S7 very noisy
with music QRM understation. I guess that`s still Brighton, also
earlier:

At 1800, I checked 7290 via UTwente, IRRS SW during the hour WOR
formerly aired. FSN at first; 1810 VOA-One ID, I guess after VOA news
and music followed. Not audible on 14580 second harmonic. 1845 after
music, `Shortwave Report` starts: I though media programs had been
canceled on SW -- but a semi-hour show doesn`t quite fit into a
quarter-hour slot, so chopped off for 7290 sign-off at 1900 but to
continue on 1323. Fragments of WOR could also appear somewheres on the
NEXUS-IBA `schedule`, so much of which is generic on the website. If
anyone run across such, let us know.

Note that some items quoted on WOR 2208 are no longer correct already:
Ben Dawson says WFME 1560 does not use a ``slant-wire antenna``, but
rather a slant-wire *feed* to a vertical tower, which is entirely
different. Also outdated: as in MALDIVES, VANUATU, this report. Next:

One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 6160 -68 Hz = 6159.932 into NH SDR, Sept 16 at 0000, WBCQ
with `AAAWWW`. In first triminute I recognize as repeat of a recent,
like ``what does VU stand for?``, so never mind. 5130+ is still off
the air, no Trump, SOB! 3265+ not on either; only also 7490 -74 Hz =
7489.926 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7260, Sept 15 around 0615, no signal detected from RV in
routine bandscan but vs high line noise level. Manuel Méndez, Spain
says 7260 had resumed: ``Vanuatu today on air on 7260, 0550-0641,
15-09, male, comments, female, songs. Very weak here in Reinante, NW
of Spain at the moment. 15421. Good via SDR Kiwi remote receivers in
New Zealand``. It had been on 5040 instead for a short while. Probably
still QSY to 3945 only at 0700 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 15835-15855 approx., Sept 15 at 1458, strong
multi-frequency beepery just far enough not to bother 15825 WWCR,
which is at the defacto upper edge of this SWBC band (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

MALDIVES [non].

Uzbekistan were identical to 11620 afterwards.
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Two other
9955 airings have been pending for ``later in Sept``: UT Sun 0000 and
Tue 1300.

WORLD OF RADIO 2208 monitoring: confirmed Friday September 15 at 2045
the 2030 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz only, Villa Estense;
nearest SDR Noale is busy but Parma gets it poorly, S6/S7 very noisy
with music QRM understation.

Next:

15835-15855 approx., Sept 15 at 1458, strong
multi-frequency beepery just far enough not to bother 15825 WWCR,
which is at the defacto upper edge of this SWBC band (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)
