Logs
** KURDISTAN [non]. 11540, Sept 20 at 1500, sounds like Turkish music,
i.e. jammer against and/or Dengê Gel, which recently quit the 17 MHz
band for 11510, but once jammer caught up, into the cat-and-mouse
jumparound. No other significant signals now below 11600 such as
11510. Later 11540 confirmed as I see this Sept 20 on the WOR iog:

``Dengê Gel has started using alternate frequencies to avoid the
Turkish jammer. Noted today at 0640 on 11540, with Erdogan speech on
11520. When Pridnestrovye was used in the past, signal strength here
in the U.K. was much stronger. Probably still via Tashkent. Alan
Holder, G4ZBH, Isle of Wight, U.K.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MALDIVES [non]. 11620, Sept 20 cuts on late at *1500.5, VOMK in
unreadable English, S6/S9+10; by 1503 changed to the YL in presumed
Dhivehi. Propagation degraded so not as strong as usual, but more than
one could expect from Uzbekistan site rather than Australia. Which is
continuing to be a matter of controversy; another possibility is that
more than one site may be in use on different days (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Wed Sept 20 after 2200, token English from REE main
feature on quick midcheck, VG into Maryland SDR, interview about
Hemingway and his connexions to Spain (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, Sept 20 after 2200, VOT English back to VG
signal into UTwente; `Weekly Commentary` - or was it `Weekly Analysis`
started shortly after 2230 until almost 2250 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2208 monitoring: ``Dear Glenn:
Confirming World of Radio #2208, notes, loggings, WRMI:
9395 khz, weak heard voice beginning, 2344, S5 signal, ID 2359, Sep 19
UTC 2023 [Tue] (Lemke, Richard -AB)``

Confirmed Tuesday September 19 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S9+25 into
Missouri SDR.

Also confirmed Wednesday September 20 at 2100 on WBCQ 7490 -72 Hz =
7489.928, VG S9/+10 into Maryland SDR. Next:

Note that per WRMI websked, WOR may appear thrice in a row on three
different frequencies Wednesday evenings, toward the end of our weekly
produxion cycle.

0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0100 UT Thursday WRMI 9955 to SSE [NEW on sked; to be confirmed]
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1400 UT Thursday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed by Cuba? to be confirmed]

No new contributions this week which might have been sent via PayPal,
not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com

One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330, Sept 20 at 0141, no signal from WBCQ-6 W.L.C.R., tho
Classix on 7490- & 6160- are nominal. 9330 still off at 0620 while
6160- is still on with TOMBS. Wonder what`s the problem now? Next chex
at 1656 and later, 9330 back on (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085 & 5130+, Sept 20 at 0036, still no signals from WTWW
planning to resume, nor WBCQ Trumpmitter. 5010 WRMI is on but not yet
5050 until 0100 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15770, Wed Sept 20 at 1930, WRMI relaying VOA News, and 1935
`Flashpoint Ukraine`; final item is interview with CEO of DragonFly
about how drones in private hands will soon be as fun and ubiquitous
as the internet. 1959 VOA ID sung by sounds like Louis Armstrong, neat
-- but NO WRMI ID and 2000 immediately into gospel huxter. The casual
uninformed listener would conclude that VOA is now a religious outlet,
violating Separation Of Church And State (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 860, Sept 20 at 1854 UT, KKOW Pittsburg KS, is off! During
routine bandscan from ~25 km north of Enid. Did not know it had any
problems; neighbor 690 KGGF Coffeyville KS is VG as usual, both 10 kW.
On 860 seems a JBA fast SAH but would not expect any daysigs from
others nearest in TX, AR, IA. On 860 and above there is lite line
noise audible even tho no powerlines in sight where parked along US
81/60/64 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1130, Sept 20 at 1656 & 1855 UT chex, KLEY Wellington KS is
still silent (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1290, Sept 20 at 1857 UT, ``Texhoma`s NewsTalk 1290``
slogan, i.e. KWFS Wichita Falls TX, with barely an undertrace of KMMM
Pratt KS, on caradio north of Enid (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 104.3, Sept 20 at 1952 UT, `B 104-3 The Point``, and rock.
Don`t ever hear this back in Enid, with 104.1 OKC adjacent, but 25 km
north on expedition, no problem; WTFDA FM DB: ``KVGB-FM 104.3 GREAT
BEND KS CLASSIC ROCK THE POINT 96.0 kW 247.0 m HAAT 38-25-54 98-46-18
4811 Song/Artist - B 104/3 "THE POINT" -KVGB-FM Classic Rock`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** CHINA [non?]. 17855, Sept 19 at 0600, surprised to hear some
Chinese JBA on frequency left tuned after Spain at 2200. Not accounted
for in Aoki, but EiBi shows RFA via Tinian, and CNR1/Firedrake jamming
this hour only (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 101.5, Sept 19 at 1500 UT on caradio, again dead air with
stereo icon, presumed KOCD. Recheck at 1703 on DX-398 with telescopic
antenna only and at ground level, now enough signal for RDS icon and
to display: KOCD-FM_ static! So now it`s 100% certain that all this DA
has been from the Okeene station which supposedly went off the air
last January. At this time RDS worx, but not enough signal for $ tereo
icon (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, Sept 19 at 2200, VOT English is only S7/S9 with
noise, fading, even unto UTwente where normally can hit S9+50. About
the worst I`ve ever heard it there. So a good excuse not to attempt
any detailed logging today. I really need to break away from such a
habit: better ways to spend a few hours per week. WWV reported at
2100: ``Solar-terrestrial indices for 19 September follow.
Solar flux 166 and estimated planetary A-index 52.
The estimated planetary K-index at 2100 UTC on 19 September was 3.67.
Space weather for the past 24 hours has been strong.
Geomagnetic storms reaching the G3 level occurred.
Radio blackouts reaching the R1 level occurred.``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2208 monitoring: ``From: Richard
Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening
Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees.
Dear Glenn: Confirming World of Radio #2208, notes, loggings, WRMI:

[Tue](Lemke, Richard -AB) 73’s, Richard, September 19, 2023, 9:13
AM``

Confirmed UT Tuesday Sept 19 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9+10/20 into
Missouri SDR; usual intervention by fragment of Jeff`s ``The World is
in Turmoil...`` ad between ID and WOR.

Still not confirmed, rather music fill, Tuesday Sept 19 after 1300 on
WRMI 9955, supposedly planned for ``later in Sept`` -- so maybe
26th? Next:

2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB
1030 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB [previous #2207]
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0100 UT Thursday WRMI 9955 to SSE [NEW on sked; to be confirmed]
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1400 UT Thursday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed by Cuba? to be confirmed]

Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1130 kHz, Sept 19 at 1635 UT, no signal on caradio from KLEY
Wellington KS; despite high storm and line noise level, should be
audible as usual daytimes. At 1655 I get a JBA carrier on the R75; on
the DX 398 I can`t get a DF fix. Could be image, or: how about running
``one watt`` night power in day rather than 250 watt day power at
night? So KLEY seems totally off the air, and not merely dead air as
often. Meanwhile sibling KKLE Winfield KS 1550 is quite audible with
bluegrass, altho always weaker than KLEY when it`s normal, and DF for
NNE/SSW (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** MEXICO. I haven`t caught any 10 m beacon activity for quite a
while, but now at least two main XEs by sporadic E, Sept 19 at 2222 &
2225:
28171 CW, XE1FAS/B, not listed at WI5V but only 24929.5 from Puebla
28276 CW, XE1JAL/B, 5 watts from Xalapa [not Jalapa? XAL?]
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. ``Hi Glenn, About your NDBs mentioned. 350 RG
is decommissioned; this happened several times but it kept coming
back, it appears to finally have taken effect, last reported 1/23. 255
SW still on, reported 8/29/23; 332 IC still on, reported 8/27/23.
https://rxx.classaxe.com/en/rna/signals

** OKLAHOMA. 101.5, Sept 18 at several chex on caradio around Enid,
circa 19, 20 and 21 UT, dead air in $ tereo, again at original level
like months ago leading me to conclude it has to be KOCD Okeene
transmitter, altho R. Salvación claimed to have gone off the air last
January. It`s not local level, but plenty to dominate any signs of
further 101.5s. Once back at home QTH I try the DX-398 with RDS
capability, but not enough signal to display that icon if unlikely in
use, nor even stereo icon.

May have to take the time and trouble to drive the ~80 mile roundtrip
to Okeene, SW of Enid, to be sure. One FCC map indicates site is right
in center of town, slightly NW of junxion of state hwys 8 & 51; but
another shows it on east side, just north of hwy 51 and just east of
N2660 Rd. The 60 dbu contour of 14 kW does not reach Enid.

Digging further at FCC, I see nothing about it being off the air, nor
having been a relay of the 93.9 LPFM in OKC. In fact, guess what, the
main studio of record is in Liberal KS! Where there is another station
on 101.5 I have been getting:

``LICENSED
License Expires: 06/01/2029

(Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Monday Sept 18 at 2200, token English from REE, first
feature after news is interview about a Spanish film festival in
London. VG here direct with the other three quite inferior, 17715,
15520, 11670 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 11785, Sept 18 at 2200, VOT English not off the
air today, but quite inferior direct compared to 17855 Spainglés. Not
on the air after 2300 in German. BTW, Recep is interviewed on today`s
PBS Newshour, jumps on interviewer for interrupting and disrespecting
him; weasely otherwise (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2208 monitoring: confirmed UT
Monday September 18 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9+10 into Maryland SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday September 18 from 0300.8 on Area 51 via WBCQ
6160 -68 Hz = 6159.932, S8/S9 into Maryland SDR, after JL ``gotta go``
at 0300. Next:

(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. George, I have not noted any activity on 5085, tho I could
have missed it. Could you update as of now what the situation and
plans are? (Glenn to George McClintock, Sept 13)

``WTWW coming back --- Glenn, I have paid programming starting within

Logs
** CANADA. 6754 USB, Sept 17 at 0109 nothing from CHR; must have been
pause until starts at 0110 but JBA vs S9+25 line noise, still nothing
but ``no report received``s during brief monitoring of Trenton
Military. EiBi implies starts at :10 past the hours, but unclear the
extent of pauses/breaks (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11850, Sept 17 at 0122, RHC at S9/+15 [direct u.o.s.], but
main a hum with trace of modulation, and JBA parasitic spur carriers
on 11840 & 11860. That`s more like it: somethings` always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 9600, Sept 17 at 0127, RHC Spanish and S9/+20 // 11760. Seems
9600 not be a mistake, keeps happening, avoiding Romania 9700 clash at
0200-0300. EiBi & Aoki still haven`t caught up with 9600 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EAST TURKISTAN [and non]. 17640, Sept 17 at 0115, CRI English chat
about education, AI, surprisingly good signal this hour via Kashgar,
land of ChiCom imperialist genocide against Uighurs and other Moslems,
toward Europe so rather USward too, in fact the SSOB, S4/S7 with some
flutter. It sounds better in plain USB than in ECSS. I then survey
other signals, mostly JBA or JBA carriers on band+ without further
research, likely mostly China from NE or NW: 17490, 17530, 17565,
17580, 17605 + noisejam?, 17740, 18900, 18970. At this hour I would
have expected better signaling from east China over NW path than west
``China`` over NE path.

9580 at 0126, CRI English also, CUBA relay undermodulated and a few
seconds behind // 17640 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA SOUTH [non]. See USA: 11880

** MEXICO. 18084.5 CW, Sept 17 at 0112, sounds automated in several
repeats: CQ CQ CQ CQ DE XE2AD - something else followed probably
gridsquare. QRZ.com:
``XE2AD Mexico flag Mexico, DAVID MORO-FRIAS, AP 006, Aguascalientes,
Ags 20000, Mexico --- Website: http://www.xe2ad.com Hi! I am David,
born in 1980 and ham radio operator since 2006. I´m an Electronic
engineer with a MSc and PhD in microelectronic design. Actually I work
in the semiconductor industry as analog integrated circuit designer
and as an university lecturer`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ``

** NORTH AMERICA. 6952 USB, Sept 17 at 0105, weak talk from pirate way
below what sure seems like jamming, much stronger random tone beepery
like someone wiggling a VFO a few kHz above and below, S9+30 also vs
line noise at S9+12. By 0133 recheck, none of this. Many reports here
of Zeke taking requests and being jammed:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,118250.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. KAUT ``43`` is no longer ``Freedom 43``, but ``CW 43``,
that network branding taken from KOCB, ``CW 34`` on RF 33. KOCB is now
merely ``independent``. KAUT is mainly on RF 19 but the only
transmitter around here so far in unvisable ATSC 3.0. As KAUT is also
owned by NexStar, i.e. KFOR ``4`` RF 27 with NBC, we can really see
KAUT via RF 27.5, in ATSC 1.0 as virtual ``43-1``. Altho when I first
noticed this at 2359 UT Sept 16, it was via Optimum Cable 2 in Enid. I
soon found that rabbitears.info already made the change, so don`t know
exactly when it happened, as there is little reason to watch KAUT or
KOCB. Except: NBC or other KFOR programming such as `Discover
Oklahoma`, the state-sponsored travelog, is shunted to KAUT when
stupid ballgames or maybe BREAKING NEWS or WEATHER, takes over KFOR,
as happened today. Last week KAUT also had a stupid ballgame so
Discover OK was out of luck! (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. LW/MW beacon reception has been pitiful. Still
plenty of summer storm noise and also my OG&E line noise. The only
reliable regulars are 515 kHz, PN, Ponca City; and always JBA despite
proximity, 341 kHz, EI, Enid. Former regulars 350 kHz, RG, WRWA OKC,
and 255 kHz, SW, Stillwater remain absent, maybe forever. I have been
hesitant to conclude the 332 kHz, IC, Wichita KS, is off, but
unconfirmed for weeks. At 0102 Sept 17 I get a trace, maybe of a 332
carrier. I`ll be delighted to hear any further beacons, let alone
several Canadians regular in the winter, if they still exist. There
was one on 332 mixing with and atop wIChita (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 11880, Sept 17 at 0123, KBS World Radio in Spanish mailbag
calling someone in México but suppressed/distorted modulation, so
something`s wrong at Grimesland since this is the relay hour via VOA.
KBS cares enough about Spanish to maintain this relay service, not so
for English to North America (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2208 monitoring: not yet UT Sunday
Sept 17 at 0000 on WRMI 9955 as supposedly planned for ``later in
September``, rather another Viva Miami repeat, and at 0015 some gospel
huxter. That leaves one more week, Sept 24.

Confirmed UT Sunday September 17 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S5/S3 with
storm crashes, offbeam into Maryland SDR.

Also confirmed not starting until 0358 UT Sunday September 17 the
0315v on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, VG into nearby SDR, after ARRL News
which started at 0345.

``World of Radio is the premiere news and information radio service
produced by respected shortwave journalist Glenn Hauser.``
http://wbcq.com/schedule/index.php?fn=p&id=18
Tnx, but don`t you believe the imaginary first time shown,
``5130 Su 0400-0430 UTC Su 12:00AM 12:30AM EST`` [sic]
which was never correct.

Not awake to check the Sun 1030 on WRMI 9955; anyone hear it? Next:

** U S A. 9330, Sept 17 at 0125, no signal from WLCR/WBCQ-6, but
Classic WBCQs maintain on 7490 & 6160 at 0130 check. Wonder if that
huge rotatable antenna could not tolerate sub-hurricane force winds
from Lee. NWS info for Caribou/Monticello predicted winds gusting to
46 mph and declining, probably more than that earlier. `BCQ is of
course pretty far inland, while the ME/NS/NB coasts were getting
pummeled. Back on by 1730 Sept 17, JBA direct but S9+18 into Maryland
SDR.

7489.9 at 0130 Sept 17 had some crackles and dead air, not unusual
during Pirate Joe`s `Shortwave Saturday Night` live from WHVW 950, but
S9+20/30 here (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7300V, Sept 17 at 0501, the gospel huxter pirate is
back, sermon about Daniel stuff. I last logged it Sept 2, no luck
since on occasional but not nightly chex. Tnx to tip from Lucas
Bandura at 0454:

``WOR] UNID religious 7300v AM --- Glenn’s UNID station on this
frequency is on tonight, I finally got it. S7 on TWR Raleigh, North
Carolina KiwiSDR. Just a carrier direct in British Columbia, no audio
heard. Preacher now, music at tune in around 0450 UTC.

Interesting, at 0513 UTC I saw the operator bump the VFO up [with
screenshot]. I have heard religious pirates on AM mode in the 80 meter
ham band, I’m sure this is another one of them. Likely using an
antique transmitter and VFO tuned right up to the top of its range for
40 meters.``

I`ve brought up the TWR NC SDR too and let it run for quite a while.
Very steady signal strength but noisy, maybe near local range.
Frequency constantly varying, and SDR calibration is accurate compared
to WWV 10000. At first it`s on 7300.125, shortly downward to +100.5,
97.5, 72, 69.

0522 no ID but cut to ``holy`` hymn, but not the well-known ``Holy3``.
Now it`s offset minus 30 Hz. 0527 back to preacher IDing self as
Robert Breaker ? sounds like, with website southchurch.org - I go
there and find that`s in New Britain CT, but searching on name with as
many alternate spellings as I can think of finds no one. Visual
reference, and podcast mentioned. 0541 happens to attain 7300.000 but
not for long! Still going 0608 at +155 Hz. 0639, +368 Hz. At 0648 I
finally tune in direct and he`s S9+10 but due to noise, JBA on
7300.389 varying upward to 7300.425 by 0652 when I quit.

Ron Howard reported from CA: ``Sept 17 - Hearing 7300 at 0730 UT with
extremely weak signal at Asilomar Beach. Ron`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7410-7415-7420, Sept 17 at 0135, DRM noise at S9+25.
Nothing listed in Aoki, EiBi, HFCC or drmrx.org -- whatsit? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
