For the first time in its 68-year history, Dayton Hamvention, the largest
US amateur radio fair, will not take place this year due to the spread of
the corona virus.
The gloomy news was not entirely unexpected, given the widespread
cancellation of public gatherings and President Trump's proclamation of
a national emergency on March 13.
"The Hamvention Executive Committee has been monitoring the COVID19
pandemic. We have worked very closely with our local and state health
departments. The Hamvention Executive Committee has decided with a very
heavy heart to cancel Hamvention this year," said Hamvention general manager
Jack Gerbs, WB8SCT, on March 15th. "This decision is extremely difficult for
us, but with about two months' notice, we thought this would be necessary.
More details on the closure will be released shortly. Thank you for your
understanding in this time of international crisis."
Dayton Hamvention's cancellation is less than a week after the International
DX Convention in Visalia, California also canceled its issuance. Since 2017,
the Hamvention has been held in Xenia, Ohio, every May. The international
meeting attracted more than 32,000 visitors in 2019.

Die Absage von Dayton Hamvention erfolgt weniger als eine Woche, nachdem die
